I think that in the "all around" zooms, you could add the sigma 18-50f2.8 cheaper than Sony g and tamron and also the 18-135 that is not constant 2.8 but the great zoom range plus the OSS are 👌

sigma 18-50 f2.8 is also good but it gives you only 50mm focal length and doesn't have image stabilization and sony 18-135mm really isn't a good one for me because it goes upto f5.6 at above 105mm which is very bad at low light and tamron 17-70 f2.8 provides you all of these

Nice video. I appreciate having the FF focal length cos no one wants to sit there doing maths the whole way through a video.

^ I am new to photography and getting a new Sony a6100. Now if I want a lens that takes good pics of people and compact and then not a massive size … what they would u recommend? I read somewhere that kit lenses can suck and if u have it then u should just stick with ur phone for photos. 😱 I want a mirrorless camera to travel and that can easily fit in my bag. I love making photo books so I want to take great pictures of people with crisp faces on family trips

I will go with 3 lenses for my aps-c camera (a6300). Telezoom will be the fairly cheap Sony 70-350mm G OSS lens. Standard zoom will be 17-70mm f2.8 Tamron because it is just a great lens (there's a reason it got the lens of the year aware from EISA).. and last but not least the Song 10-18mm f4 OSS, yes i know its a f4 lens but with this combo i will have stabilized image from all 3 lenses with no IBIS on my a6300. And the range will cover 10-350mm (before cropfactor). In my opinion this is the best zoom lens combo for aps-c shooters. If i were using a Sony camera with IBIS i would get the sigma prime f1.4 trio first! Anyway. Non of these 2 combos will break you bank as long as you buy the lens in the combo that match the majority of your shooting style 👏✌🏼🥳

Despite the Sony kit lense 18-135, which was already mentioned in the comments, I'd recommend also the newer Tamron 18-300 as an all covering travelling zoom. It's a little heavy, but in the end you can cover almost all of what's needed when travelling and the results are pretty good for a super zoom. I had it on my a6400 in Uganda and was not disappointed with the results. In the prime sector I'd recomend to consider the Zeiss Touit 32 (native APSC) and the Zeiss Batis 25 (native full frame). I like the Zeiss quality and picture look....

I am looking for portrait photography along with occasional landscape while travelling. Following are my concerns.
Sigma 16mm or 30mm 1.4 on a6100 or m50 mark ii is better?
    1) Is m50 mk2 's dynamic range too bad for landscape. How much it differs from a6100.
    2) How much is m50 mk2's images less sharper than a6100?
    3) A6100 has how resolution viewfinder compared to m50 mk2. How much is that in real time use from a beginner's pov.

Hi there! I can't comment on the Canon M50 unfortunately. I am not familiar with it enough to make an educated comment on it. But from what I hear online, it's a very good camera too.

    • @Garbid
      @Garbid 3 роки тому

      1) Not significantly around 30% but when editing it can help.
      2. Sharpness is tied up with lens. Sony has better lenses and a lot of third party lenses as sigma.
      3. Doesn't matter. Really important is how sharp the image will be on post editing. Viewfinder gives you the vision of scene, exposure, composition, and white balance. All of this is well seen in sony.
Lastly canon is going to make new line of apsc with another bayonet means m50 is out of date.

Mario, I'm looking for a wide-angle lens for my Sony a6500 to shoot videos in the gym for my business. Primarily, I'm interested in a lens that will allow me to have the tripod close to me while capturing my entire body in the frame. I wouldn't mind having a lens that can blur the people behind me so they aren't visible in the videos I upload to my app and social media platforms. I shot my videos last year with the new iPhone 12 Pro Max. The quality is excellent, but as you know, I have to set the tripod far from me because the wide-angle lens on iPhone doesn't give me the same crips and high-quality image I get from the standard lens on the phone. I have been searching on UA-cam for videos of folks talking about the best lens for the setting I'm interested in, but I cannot find anything. Most people talk about pictures and videos taken outside. I thank you in advance for your input.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I appreciate it. Do you have any experience with the wide-lens attachment for iPhone from Sandmarc and Moment? Do you think the video quality from an iPhone for video is superior to the Sony a6500? As you can tell, I’m not an experienced videographer, but I do care about having high-quality resolution videos for my work. I’m a little hesitant with the Sony a6500 since the iPhone is clever at adjusting lighting, etc. I’m trying to make my Sony a6500 videos look as good as the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

    • @MarioSoMedia

+Total Athlete hey there! You can make the Sony a6500 look really good but it takes more work, for example, shooting in manual mode, in a flat picture profile, color correcting it, grading it, external mic, better lens. It can be a pro workhorse.
With the iPhone you get a good looking image straight out of camera and it's easy to use, and it's good enough for UA-cam.
To put it into perspective, I have shot paid wedding films on the a6500 but I would never do it on an iPhone.

I really want to advance to the next step in photo quality, and that is of course DSLRs or mirrorless with interchangeable lenses. So I consider the A6400. But the prices on all those lenses really deter me. Especially when I can simply upgrade my camera to the very capable, although old now, Sony RX10iv. However, as just a starting freelance filmmaker I'm wondering if you know of any tips or places to find lenses a bit cheaper, even used. Isn't the Crop-factor explanation in the Video a bit misleading? 😅
    - If you put a full-frame 50mm lens on a full-frame Camera you get a 50mm Image.
    - If you put a crop-frame 50mm lens on a crop-frame Camera you get a 50mm Image.
    - If you put a full-frame 50mm lens on a crop-frame Camera you get a 75mm Image.
    - If you put a crop-frame 50mm lens on a full-frame Camera you get a lot of Vignette lol.
PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong!

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  3 роки тому +2

Hey there! Yes and no. This is a very complex topic when you do a deep dive and not enough time in this video alone to explain it in detail.
You are right in what you said here if you look at apsc on its own and not do not compare it to full frame so it doesn't render my explanation misleading. 😅
The 1.5x multiplication factor is used to when comparing it to its equivalent in a 35mm full frame field of view since this has become the reference point for all imagery in the digital world.
Even though a crop 50mm lens will give you 50mm image on a crop-sensor camera (in a crop sensor only world) and a full frame 50mm lens gives you a 50mm image on a full frame camera, when you compare both of these the field of view won't be the same.
So a quick way to think about this is that if you have a crop frame camera and your friend has a full frame one, you will have to use a 35mm lens to get the same approximate field of view as they do using a 50mm lens. If you are both using 50mm lens, then your friend's focal length is 50mm but your "apparent" focal length is closer to 75mm.
This is why camera manufacturers include the 35mm (full frame) equivalent in the specs of apsc crop lenses.
Hope this clears it up a bit. Lol

      " If you put a crop-frame 50mm lens on a crop-frame Camera you get a 50mm Image."
      Not my understanding.
Whatever lens you put on your Sony mirrorless APSC camera you need to multiply it by 1.5 to get the equivalent field of view as full-frame.
      Eg. Sony E 35mm f1.8 OSS Lens = 35 x 1.5 = 52.5
Sony 35mm is almost equivalent to a 50mm full frame lens on a full frame camera.
