Are you ready for fun? The small car sector is about to get an electric shock with the arrival of the new Abarth 500e. Created by Fiat’s sporting sub-brand, the Abarth 500e is the first all-electric 500 to wear the famous scorpion badge and adds a high performance option to the award-winning 500 range.
The Abarth 500e will be available in both hatch and cabrio forms with both models featuring a host of additional features. The first model to arrive will be a Limited Edition Scorpionissima, which will be followed by a standard Abarth version. Just 1,949 examples will be made - a number that pays homage to the brand’s birth year.
The Abarth 500e comes with a 42kWh battery - which is the same size as the pack fitted to the normal 500. But don’t be fooled - it’s not exactly the same battery. In order to deliver 155bhp to the wheels, Abarth had to create a new specification that allows for a bigger transfer of energy.
As for range, well, there are no official figures at the time of recording. But given that the standard Fiat version returns 199 miles on the WLTP cycle, we’d expect the Abarth to be around the 160 or 170 mile mark.
Join Nicki as she takes a look around the Abarth 500e ahead of its arrival at UK retailers. Do you like the look of it? As always, we’d love to hear your views and opinions in the comments below.

Needed to be 200bhp. It's not hard, several 2wd EV's gets 200bhp. EV6, Cupra born, ID3, Niro, MG4 etc etc.....
Now compare their lengths again to the Fiat 500e. I mean: Sure, they could sacrifice all of the backseat capability to add in more battery, but I haven't seen 200 hp yet from a 42 kWh electric car. Which would also make it a lot heavier, which would defy the purpose, I find.
The most pointless EV of 2023... 👍👍👍. Totally love it. Stellantis are knocking out great EV options for 2023. Have sensible or silly... There is something for everyone.
There's the 600E coming aswell lol
155 km/h of top speed with FAKE sound?? It's a ridicolous car...🤣🤣🤣
Awesome
@@nikjac79 Rediculously brilliant...
@@nikjac79 think she was talking UK mph...not that it isn't ridiculous 🤪
I've always wanted an Abarth.. Never quite gone that mad... What a car..
The new mg 4 electric is faster than this and only around 26k. It looks nice as well. I would only buy this abarth if the price was around 32k, but with the sabelt buckets, brembos and black rims. Also needs to have a nice choice of colours.
Abarth, sort your prices and specs out. The people who can afford this car are in the 40s, do they really want to drive a bright coloured car like that.
Watch this summer. There will be loads of unsold abarth e on the for courts.
I bet they'll be found in Kensington and Chelsea as one of the smallest cars available for the wealthy kids. Just a wild stab in the dark because they're are already a bunch of Fiat 500 electrics there, and I'd bet most are top spec.
Bonkers list price aside (😵) I'm all for making an EV that appeals to the emotional connection of the driver to the sound of the car - that's what the vast majority of die-hard petrol-heads say is the main reason they're reluctant to go electric, after all.
But, as well as the sound generator making a quite passable throaty engine tick-over noise - as shown in this video - what you missed out, though, Nikki was to mention that it also makes a 'rock-guitar lick' sound as it's pedestrian warning alert...!
How effin' awesome is THAT...!! 🤘
That's only £5k cheaper than a model 3
Ah .. that’s a good point ! You would really have to be an idiot to buy a non -Tesla BEV !
@@maxflight777 explain yourself
Cool video and the specs and color looks bonkers!!
Range is bad so is pointless unless u use it as a toy
155 mile range is poor, considering this will be practically unacheivable.....and if you take into account that FIAT themselves have said that if you use the heater on the standard 500e, the range will be reduced by around 40%. So that leaves well under 100 miles of range. So we have what is, in practice, a 2+2 that will cost nigh on £40k that makes a ridiculous noise and can't really take you anywhere but on the weekly shop......which probably won't fit in it anyway. A city car maybe, but not many living in cities have home charging facilities.
0 to 100 in 7 secs...where is the scorpion?
Gone.
If it comes to the US I’m going to try and get one!
I rented a FIAT 500 once. IT was, by far, the most uncomfortable modern car I have ever driven, and this may have totally different ergonomics, but I'm not even remotely interested.
If those prices and specs are to be believed, WTF would anyone get one? The MG 4 LR does the same acceleration times, is significantly larger, significantly cheaper... and has RWD as well as having a MUCH greater range.
Why do we need sound from an EV, let us move forward to quieten things down and take the bonus of the electric engine.
Particle and gases aren’t the only pollution. Noise is an ever increasing pollution too. If planes flying into/out off airports are restricted by time, to not disturb people and or the environment, then road going transport should be silenced wherever possible. So I agree with you, it’s an EV, it should make no noise.
They have to make some noise, because the Prius years ago was so quiet when in battery mode more walkers were ran over, because they did not hear it coming.
@@jeffruebens8355 - The onus is not on the pedestrian not to be knocked over, though they should take care. When a driver passes their test, it’s up to the driver not to knock people over. And no amount of noise, is going to make a deaf or nearly deaf person hear traffic.
£38,000 for this seriously, if your spending that sort of money why not go for the Smart #1 and they also do a Brabus 428bhp version
I'll say YUK to just about all aspects of the car except the interior. The insides look nice.
Imagine if this was £26k there would be queueing round the block - ok at the keyboards refreshing. But at £38k for a small hatch and yes I know the third gen MINI GP was approaching £34-36k. The price point is frightening especially even more Tesla model 3 prices have dropped to starting at £42k for double the range, all that tech, access to the best charging network.
It’s a bit like the MINI SE level 3 at over £30k and your getting at best 120 miles real world range. MINI will in time have a electric works model even maybe a Electric GP but not until they can pull it off in a few generations of the platform. Fiat should have waited till a least the next generation of battery tech and drivetrain before using one of its famous marque names.
I'd imagine at £26k they'd have little to no profit margin
0:02 I will not fall for this ploy of increasing engagement.
It's not 2005, so a 7 second 0-60 time isn't impressive. Little utility, less refinement, fake noises, at nearly the price of a Model 3 that is better in every meaningful way. Why would buy this when it offers such poor value for money?
And a rolls Royce can't do off road aswell as a defender.. your comparison is pointless
@@admol73 It was clearly a value for money comparison. Try to keep up
Well, people are stupid and buy flashy overpriced shitboxes. Who would buy unreliable shit like Fiats, Alfa Romeos, Land Rover or Citroen if it wasn't like this? They just throw their brains out of the window and hope for having better luck than all the others.
I love the looks but for me, it's killed by a combination of poor range and performance. This is not especially quick compared to a lot of ICE cars and downright slow by EV standards and therefore not deserving of the Abarth badge. A 500e struggles to get 120-130 miles in real world/cold temperatures and I can see the Abarth being sub-100 miles in the same conditions, which seriously compromises its usability. Finally, a £40k price would be bearable if it was quick and/or had decent range but the lack of either coupled with a high price makes this a very niche car indeed, which is a shame as I would have one in a heartbeat if the range was fixed.
Well Nicki this car would be a complete waste of money , however you got to love it the person that has it all this would be fun to zip into the shops , it does look amazing . Performance is a little shy would have like to a little more get up and go and more range the battery is just too small. I am an EV owner ( Genesis GV 60 ) so the most important thing is the range now a days if its les than 300 miles you really have to think about it. Great review look forward to your test drive .
For that money it simply has to be quicker. Otherwise, what's the point? But then I suppose the target audience is well heeled city dwellers so looks will sell it
When did we start calling 'speakers' 'sound generators'?
Love the way the Amarth 500e looks, but the electronic exhaust sound is pointless. A huge advantage of EVs is that they are quiet
Kahn Designs is selling a Fiat 500e for £45k, with their custom wheels and body kit. Max electric range is 118 miles 😐
The pronunciation of the man's name...."ABARTH is pronounced Abart ( the H is silent)
Fiat : planned obsolescence as usual or electrical is better ?
The fan base bought their Abarths based on passion and were willing to pay a lot and I mean a lot for the amazing sounding 1.4 Turbo engines. I have nothing against EVs, but an Abarth without a combustion engine is no Abarth. They shouldn't have bothered to try to make an EV. The brand is dead after the last Abarth with ICE unit has been produced. Just cherish the one you have if you have one.
155 km/h of top speed with fake sound...🤣🤣🤣🤣 R I D I C O L O U S
Looks stunning, but really needs more power. Lets hope they have improved the ride.
My first thoughts? Cute! Fun runabout! As for the growling sound… puh-leeeeze, that's ridiculous. You might as well hang some truck-nuts on the back.
Queuing at a charge point soon.
I would want a pair of acid green wire clippers, matching the paint job, to snip the wires to that daft speaker under the boot floor. It's a silly car, but all hot hatches are silly.
So it’s slower than a mini se, more expensive than a mini se, and has the same basic range as a mini se?
but its a R O C K E T
Let's be honest trying to spin "Abarth" off as a separate brand hasn't worked, it's a Fiat. Great review though, and wondering how many more Stellantis EV reviews are coming through given this had an identical set up to the Jeep 👀
I thought 'Wasabi'!! 🤣🤣
I would have preferred a version of the Fiat 500 with the pointless back seats taken out to save weight, give more battery perhaps, or just increase luggage space. But as long as Fiat make a big stack of cash on this that offsets the cost of making other electric cars, I'm fine for people to soon be parted from their money.
I'm not currently aware of a smaller car that's still expected to be made for the next few years and is available in Europe at scale. The Microlina is probably a quadricycle, as is the Ami and the Smart is a car but they're ceasing production if they haven't already. That leaves the Fiat 500 on my fantasy wishlist and maybe people who like it can pick up this massive downgrade in the future? Perhaps retrofit a better battery than either have currently?
Beside mediocre specs... The loud fake noise tells me clearly they have absolutely no idea how to transform Abarth in the perspective of an all electric future.
No thanks Nikki as now I have my sights firmly on an EV Trike, all be it out in all weathers, hence the safety gear requirement but no need for a driving license as it only goes up to 20MPH , so is more relaxed and has fat tires meaning its more road worthy. Its a pedal assisted 3 wheeler with an electric mini engine attached to the wheels via a hub motor - Perfection!!
What? only 155hp for something aggressive looking like this? In comparison the Mini electric has a very manageable 181hp.
#loveIT :)
It looks pretty cool and nice design inside. But Italian car and electronics... Doesn't exactly reek of confidence. A tad expensive for what it is.
Fiat should hybridise the petrol Abarth 696 and give it some real electric beans.
The electric Abarth is faithful, but it takes away from the Fiat 500.
Remember Fiat used to make a Fiat 500e for California? They were light and zippy. With new technology that would be even lighter, faster, more efficient technology. Could do with a REx, but. That's in comparison to a heavy £40,000 car..
Very interesting video, more of a love story I think. Dont forget that Alcantara is plastic- like vinyl, and will last forever in the ground. I dont get why it is given any kudos over leather which is biodegradable. Exterior sound on an EV? Dont make me laugh, EVs are meant to help reduce noise pollution, this is just creating a ludicrous, fake noise like a Playstation. We dont need fast cars in the UK, they use more energy, we need to save the planet!
Looks great, but efficiency is a joke, bhp is a joke, and the price is just sad at this point. Who buys this over a model 3 which is 4k more, or a mg4 which is 10k less, both of which are faster and more efficient?!
£38K goodbye Glad I skipped to the end to find
put price up first please , so people don't have to waste their time watching the video on yet another *unaffordable*
Well if you are looking to prove to the world that you are a plonker this is your vehicle.
Gorgeous looking car ! Elon take note …
thought it was gonna be a small fast car, since it is electric. but its just a small slow car. kinda disappointing.
Since their gasoline version is so unreliable, it makes sense that they switch to all electric sooner. Likely too small to fit a hybrid battery and gas engine. An all electric Renegade little SUV would likely sell better here in Murica, especially if they improved the existing terrible Fiat suspension under it.
fiat 500 make a fast electric car that deserves the badge the badge ... even our old design slow BMW i3S rear wheel drive will leave this one behind. I just don't see the point or it does make a nice noise du #buzzofftoxic 🤣
Yep. It does look like an upturned bath.
0-100 is always quicker in an EV. Pretty easy
I like EV's but when a racing brand makes one it just does nothing for me its fairly pointless especially for the price.
Brabus smart one 👌 better range faster
Sound generator = speaker
& It is stupid
Why are brands trying to make electric cars ICE engine triads that it doesn't need
Nice EV and nice specs, but he, the 42kWh Fiat 500e Cabrio was €30k in 2020 and in 2023 it is €38.5k.
The ICE version Fiat 500 Cabrio is €20k and for the difference, €18.5k, we can ride 5 times around the world and still have distance to spare.
Or 10k km per year for 20 years and still not break even.
No thanks, no EV for that price.
That's at today's prices. Your math is way off
@@admol73 Yes, today's prices where we live, realtime. What did you expect? unknown prices of Januari 2028?
A curent Fiat 500 Cabrio runs 20km on the liter, at €1.75. For €18.500 you can buy 10.571 liters gas, that will bring you over 211.000 km = 5 times around the world.
I don't like to be tricked into watching a video..... especially seeing the edited UK plate on the thumbnail. The same with the Jeep Avenger video..
If the number plate upsets you... How does all the massive amount of click-bate BS upset you. At least this a no-holes-barred silly EV. Surely you would know that as soon as you see the silly colour.
Rocket? Not in this world.
SLOW fiat 500 make a fast electric car that deserves the badge the badge ... even our old design slow BMW i3S rear wheel drive will leave this one behind. I just don't see the point a nice noise du #buzzofftoxic 🤣 SAD
Too slow to be called abarth, it won't sell. The entry Kia and Hy's have a minimum of 200bhp. Pointless.
Pointles car.
Lol have they priced this for the road tax £40k threshold
lemon
Nope, way way too much..
Just buy a Tesla … road trips are a joy.
Can you turn that horrible sound off ? Sounds like a lemon with stomach ache 😂😂😂😂🤪🤪
zwei
first!
Abarth is older then M and AMG !!!😂😀
😂Sorry, but we don't pronunce Abarth as you did🤌
But don't worry, we are used to Italian pronunciation been butchered🥸
