@@TokyoBlue587 Yeah, but it's a shame the choreography/direction of that production wasn't the original Fosse one. It was actually not bad, but I felt like the choreo/direction could have been a lot better. For deviations of Fosse/Verdon's version, I preferred the Sutton Foster Off-Broadway version because although it really deviated from Fosse, it seemed to have more a solid POV that it wanted to be.

It's rare for a host to perform such a well-developed, thoroughly thought-out character like this. With a performance as detailed as this, Christina Applegate seems like a cast member.

@@knyfe-wrench2015 no, talent is always there but it takes time to develop. It's a gift someone always has. Ability is something anyone can acquire regardless of who or what you are. Talent is usually unique, indifferent, and not like any other. Michael Jackson is a prime example. A 5 year old that can sing and dance as good as adults. He was born with that and got better at. Talent can be made better, but talent isn't acquired. The ability to do something good isn't a talent.
Again - the cast are told to follow cue cards - they don't do it because they can't memorize line!
Miss Applegate's talent is so under rated. She belongs on all the major stages, TV, screen, stage, voice; she can do it all. Love her !

What an amazing sketch and performance by Christina, she basically changed the original joke of the sketch, silly teacher does silly dances, and made it: silly teacher does AMAZINGLY DIFFICULT AND AWESOME DANCE MOVES.

Okay, a few things:
1) Why was their Fosse learning process so relatable!?!? I was in Sweet Charity a few years back (school production) and this was all of us learning Fosse for the first time. We were just so confused on how to move or what to move until we weren't. We did practice like crazy people for over 2 months, but still, one day it just clicked. Now I ka-konk and ga-ga-ga-ga literally out of habit!
2) True, jazz hands isn't a Fosse staple (you can find it in Rich Man's Frug though). The isolation stuff definitely was. I was smiling so much from seeing that in there.
*The Most Important One* 3) I was fortunate enough to do a long workshop with an incredible dancer who was in Fosse on Broadway. She was rhythmic, but don't worry... she counted. :)
Haha I had a similar experience but my dance teacher would be like "5678 and shoulder shoulder hands UP straight down! And ba! Ba! Third time ba!" etc. etc haha

Joel Stern Most of the SNL hosts who tend to rely on the cue cards are the athletes, singers, rappers, comedians, etc. Generally speaking, aside from a handful, the actors and actresses tend to do well because it’s their craft. They’re already accustomed to memorizing skits and lines. Learning script for a 5-10 minute scene is pretty easy for them.
What jojo said, but also sometimes huge changes are made right before airtime if something did poorly during dress rehearsal
I bet soap opera stars would kill it.
I've heard Betty White memorized her lines when she was on because it was easier than reading the cue cards.

Did you know that she didn't want to do Married W Children at first? The original pilot was filmed w different kids. She liked the script but she was afraid to do comedy. She was only 15. Her mother asked Ed ONeill to help her. I love this SNL clip.

I'm in 5th grade orchestra for the first time and Ms Johnson proceeds to talk in same accent as Jillian Chizz... talking 40 years ago..... just so absorbed in her craft and makes mention of Julliard.... when she'd play she'd have that serious face and sway and do pronounced motions with her arms and upper body.....we're in Texas by the way..... I would venture to say she was a well trained violinist.....I mean there was very few a day that I wasn't playing ball at recess and then to sit in class with a violin on my lap and seeing this....I was fortunate enough to have her..... thank you Ms Johnson.....God bless everyone and please be safe

Who doesn't want to get deep into the kadonk? Christina Applegate is stellar in this skit. My friend and I have adopted the "that don't make no say-unz" catchphrase also.

@@cathleenrocco4804 probably. SNL usually invites the guest to a sort of round table discussion about what they're going to write, and it's usually something that involves the guest in some way. She probably mentioned she was in a Fosse production and Lorne Michaels probably said, let's get the writers to turn that into something?
