For the PL format... maybe they could go with 12 players... 6 players per group... that way each player only has to play alternating weeks. At the mid-way mark... there can be a draw to shake up the groupings. Then the top 4 players play a semi-final. With a format like that you get more players into the mix... and the players get a week off from PL play in between.
