I called out a brand on Instagram and it didn't go well

- Good news, guys. Tom Ford still hasn't blocked me. 🤩
I recently saw an ad on Instagram that was very obviously a Swedish dishcloth disguised as a "reusable paper towel." So I did the only logical thing, which was to call them out.
The events that followed are what prompted this video.
Please don't bother Papaya Reusables. However, if Papaya is reading this, please consider rebranding and being more transparent about your product.

Been over a year since you posted this and searching for papaya reviews you were the top result. Thank you for saving me money.
Can somone for the love of god give her a Swedish citizenship!
Yes, we need her to do the reverse of what she did here.
Because I'm pretty sure there are swedish companies selling US and Canadian stuff in Sweden at marked-up prices. :D
She's worth it! When a witch doctor from the deepest jungles in Africa (that got no ties to Sweden) can get one then so should Ms. Nouis.
I didn't even know other countries don't have these type of dishcloths, they're even more important than the shoehorn in my household!
Shoehorns do have it's uses. Not for shoes however.
@@Kratatch O_o;
Everything is more important than a shoehorn 😉
@@MeaganNouis pff stop bashing shoehorn 😤 also its funny to see thier post on thier instagram being filled with swedish comments calling it a swedish dishcloth after your discovery 😂
@@MeaganNouis hahaa :D
I’m glad you’re taking the fight for us over here that had no idea that Swedish dishcloths were Swedish
Geninuely thought they were normal for all countries haha
I don't care where they were invented. What I get upset about is the blatant deceit. They are scamming people and they know it
They were actually invented by Curt Lindquist in 1949 while working in a sausage skin- and sponge factory (korvskinns- och tvättsvampsfabrik) in Norrköping. He gave it the name Wettex (Abbrevation of "wet" and "textile"). So Wettex is actually the original! If a sausage skin- and sponge factory sounds like a weird combo, it's because both things were made of cellulose, I think.
Me neither, thought it was like a towel or something every person in the world had.
Thank you bc I saw them cheaper on Amazon. They almost got me.
HA HA! I'm from Denmark and we've had this type of dish cloth for decades and they are cheap! About 0.3$ a piece! Good job for calling out these greedy scammers!
I think Wettex should sponsor you from now on, you took their fight, they should atleast send you a pack of 6 a month, I mean that's like $50, right?
Sure, there's "designer" wettex in Sweden too. But then everyone knows it's the cool design you pay for to make it a part of your ordinary everyday dish cloth use. Making people believe it's a new invention is just fraud...
I was curious whether they blocked you because you told people where to get the cloths cheap or if they had an issue with the swedish dishcloth thing. So I left a
totally friendly comment asking if they where swedish dishcloths, and sure enough i was blocked. Definitely seems like they are trying to market a product that has exsited for decades as new, innovative and unique.
No way!! You were blocked?! They’re not blocking everyone… probably because too many people are leaving comments about Sweden lol
Probably they don't have a license to reproduce and sell them as their own product, stole copyright material and potentially Trade Mark infringement.
We love a good brand roast 👏🏼 the level of research looking into their website coding though killed me 😂
That such a clever thing to do! It wouldn't probably cross my mind. 😅
Did I just go to the papaya reusable instagram and posted a comment on their most recent post? Well of course I did.
Starting the year of with a rant is 100 % ok when its about protecting a Swedish national treasure like the dishcloth!! //M&W
Lol.. 54 dollars!? Nope I’m sticking with my 20kr for 5 wettex from my local store here in Sweden. Thanks. 😌🤣
There’s even a store you get 5 for 10kr. So this is outrageous!
I'm so glad I found your video. This is brilliant. I'm glad I didn't spend the 54 bucks to buy dishcloths I can get for so much less. I despise Instagram marketing.
You’re a true Swede at heart 😂
Well done Meagan!
Of course they don't want people to know that the product isn't "theirs".
Papaya are some scammers! 😂 I’m sure glad I found this vid! I was about to purchase some because I liked the pattern. I like using the cloth like viva brand napkins and figured these could save me money. Also thought about giving my husband some for his car. NOW I know where I can get the original Swedish dish cloth! THANK YOU!
I looked at this company's ads on IG today and they responded to someone's comment about the lower prices on Ebay and Amazon by stating that these towels (papaya brand) are superior to the cheaper Swedish dish towels, claiming that their product goes through rigorous testing, lasts longer, and is of greater quality. They state that the hole for hanging is unique to their brand along with the included hook. Sounds like they are trying to scam people.
Ah yes, the dreaded hole, so tough to make! Haha yeah it's a scam alright!
As a Swede I couldn’t be more proud that you are defending our culture on the web with such passion. With every living breath you are proving that Migrationsverket made the biggest mistake they ever made for kicking you out. Let me just give you a Swedish passport already.... you are a fellow Swede to me ❤️🇸🇪❤️
They were actually invented an patented by Curt Lindquist in 1949 while working in a sausage skin- and sponge factory (korvskinns- och tvättsvampsfabrik) in Norrköping. I had these in my cart and went to check UA-cam for reviews and came across this. Got a 10 pack on Amazon for much less. Thank you!
P.s. super tempted to comment in their stuff. Lol
Happy to help! 😉
Same! Thanks for the info..😉
Well, I mean, those hanging hook thingies are probably VERY expensive… probably gold or, like… diamonds… handmade… by fairies…
😅
Now I'm picturing a sweatshop with fairies forced to work for Papaya...
Not to mention you could also get the same hooks at IKEA
THANK YOU! This just saved me some money, but when I see an ad on Instagram that interests me, I usually go to Amazon and check their prices, which is usually a lot cheaper, and by looking into reusable paper towels, I came across your video…glad I did, thanks again.
This was so funny ... 😅
(According to Wikipedia, Wettex (wet-textile) was invented by Curt Lindquist and patended 1949)
I wonder if Papaya’s broken any laws now?
A patent expires after 20 years so they probably havn't broken any laws regarding the patent!
@@elin8632 Also depends on where the patent is taken. Swedish patents do not apply in north america.
The best part is that you can use it again and again by boiling or washing it in a washing machine up to 60 ° C.
They are so incredibly cheap that it is not worth it.
@@niklasmolen4753 Well not if you buy the $56 ones...
They get worse after awhile even though you're cleaning them... There are disposables sooner or later. Extremely expensive disposables!
@@niklasmolen4753 If you want to be a bit more environmentally friendly it's better to reuse them, though. :)
@@EmKatSam Of course, I use them many times. But they are not worth boiling or washing in the machine.
Finding the word "Swedish-Dishcloth" in the HTML source was a gangsta move
I love the "OH's" you add to your videos! (:
So glad you are back to posting videos - I miss your being in Sweden of course! This one was fun!
Omg! Thank you so much for this video!! I ran into those same instagram adds and got interested in the product, after going on their website and seeing the prices, I decided to check some reviews first to see if it was worth it. That's when I run into your video. I'm Brazilian, living in Canada, and had never heard about "swedish dishcloths" before. I just threw this term on Amazon and found tons of options!! Bought a 6 pack for 14 dollars. I like the idea of supporting a Canadian brand, and try to do so as much as possible, but 44 CAD (the price as of today) for a 4 pack is a bit too much. So, for my Canadian friends, if you can't find local, just go to Amazon and be happy. Those products are really amazing, I'm happy I discovered it. And thank you again for calling this out!!
So glad I came across your video! I was really considering buying their cloth from a Facebook ad. I decided to look to UA-cam for reviews of this product. I never heard of Swedish dishcloths so it’s definitely something I want to try.
I literally purchased these because of instagram and because I thought they seemed cool and had never heard of swedish dish cloths - safe to say I emailed them this morning to cancel my subscription! Lol so embarassing I've spent this money already but it's okay, I have a super cute and much cheaper alternative in my amazon wishlist for when I run out :) Thank you for making this video!!
I find it endearing that you "took the fight" to defend our dishcloths! Champion! :)
(Also, I had no idea about Wettex' origins ... embarrassing! Thanks for informing me about my own country's inventions, haha)
Thank you for saving me $100+ on these! I honestly think their patterns are super effing cute, but I really dislike how they're positioning themselves as the inventor of these cloths and blocking/deleting comments. Super shameful, won't be buying from them now.
Im so glad ppl like you exist and make these videos. I’m very aware that most of these products being advertised on social media are just a scam. Therefore I look for reviews on youtube from sincere ppl like you or videos
tutorial to recreate the products or items. I know ppl need a job and make money but I also don’t think that scamming is the way to go about making a living.
Calling a company out for something shady is definitely appreciated. They could have said anything, or simply ignored you. But *blocking* someone for a comment just made things so much worse lol I've heard reasons for why they're so expensive that make sense but I'm not gonna defend them because they could have done it themselves 🤷♀️
Thank you for this video! I was ready to overspend. Thanks to you I didn’t and I absolutely LOVE my Swedish dish towels!! Thank you thank you thank you 🤩
I am glad you made this video and spread awareness. Honestly I didn’t know about the Swedish dishcloth. I found papaya expensive too so before buying them I thought I would do some review research. And here I found your video. I would rather buy a cheaper and genuine Swedish (or Swedish brand) than papaya. Since you have more knowledge about it, please let me know which are the best ones out there😊
Aldrig sett någon så passionerad över disktrasor 😂. Också aldrig insett att disktrasor var en svensk grej. Man lär sig något nytt varje dag!
I was looking into buying the papaya towels to cut back on my paper towel use and I’m SO glad I found your video first. Now I can still cut back using paper towels without spending $50!!!
Thanks for standing up for all this Swedishness. Us Swedes wouldn’t dare 😅
I had expected that you would have had an amazon affiliate link for the real deal in your description 😉
Thank you for this video. I just found the ad on fb and came to UA-cam to check reviews and stumbled on your video. You just saved me from buying an expensive paper towel. I am going to check on Swedish dish cloth now
Thank you! I 100% agree! I saw one of their ads and they were completely positioning it like it was this new patented design they’d come up with all by themselves. And then people are overpaying because they are good products and they dont know there’s an alternative. It’s just not right. 😤
I love that you tend get overly exited and invested in things other people would not give the time of day. (I am a bit like that too]. To se you do it is really entertaining. Seeing you Getting so upset about the Papaya social media blocking you was hilarius! I would also throw down then and there, and never let go.of that injustice. You go girl!
Thank you for posting this. I saw their ad and wanted to do some more research because they looked awesome. Ive never heard of a Swedish dish cloth but ill definitely be buying an actual swedish dish cloth rather than these ones! Thanks!!
Thanks for this! I’ve been getting so many ads for these and found so many fake reviews. Can’t wait to get my hands on some affordable Swedish dishcloths. 😊
I love how much effort you put into this. I used to do a bit of coding long ago, but I would never have thought to go into the website’s source code. 😅 Absolutely love it!
Hoppas du får Migrationsverket på din sida tillslut! Du är varmt välkommen att vara min landsman. 💕
so glad i found your video! thank you for saving us so much money!!
I was just looking for a review of those papaya cloths and found you review. Can't believe they just blocked you. I hate those kind of companies that there only goal is to make money, especially in this economy.
Thank you so much❤
I saw the insane prices from this company and went straight to UA-cam. I never thought I would find the world of Swedish dishcloths. I also didn’t expect to watch this entire video and be as entertained as I was. The drama is so goodddd
Literally had it in my cart and then remembered to check here for reviews. Glad I did! You saved me!
Just got the Insta ad for Papaya and liked the idea. Googled "papaya towel review" and found your video. Thank you so much for saving me money to try a new product I've never seen that is more sustainable than paper towels and cleaner than sponges. I want to use sustainable products but I certainly can't afford what Papaya is asking.
The swedish dishcloth was invented by curt lindquist in 1949 in Norrköping Sweden , his wife came up with the name wettex by combining (wet textile) love that you called them out , when they try to claim it's something new , it's been around for 73 years :)
Thank you! I’m always suspicious about products on these ads! Exactly what I needed. I’ve been intrigued by them since the first time I saw the ad pop up but didn’t want to spend the $. I’ll go look for some other ones 😊
Thank you for your video. The ad popped up and I was like that’s a great way to save money on paper towels. As I always do, go first on UA-cam for the reviews before purchasing it. The company is charging $34 for a pack of 4. After watching your video, I went on Amazon, typed Swedish dishcloth and found a pack of 10 for $7.99. Thank you for saving me $26🙏🏿😊😊
So, I'm scrolling on fb just now and saw the Papaya post and clicked on it - I thought, wow that's a great product. Then went to YT and searched for reviews on it. Your vid was the first one I clicked on and boy am I glad I did. I am one of those who didn't know what a swedish dishcloth was. Went to amazon and there they were - 10 pk. for $9. Thank you so much for the info and saving me some $$. ❤😘
Love your videos 💞
I don't watch too many things on my phone, but you are just great. Keep it going.
Sammy from Seattle
...who has ties and have been to Norway many times and Malmo, Sweden and then trained to Oslo. Love you and the culture:)
Thank you so much for this video! I'm glad I found this video. Your analysis is very thorough!
Thank you for sharing this!! I was looking at the papaya brand and was wondering if it's the same as swedish dishcloth, looked at the website and there's no mention of it....but it's so much more expensive than swedish dishcloths so it must be more superior material/quality? But then just like you mentioned I saw the connection with the shared 30/70 material makeup and im like wait a minute.... SO THANK YOU FOR EXPOSING PAPAYAS SHADINESS!! And so funny you found the swedish dishcloth name in papayas HTML haha
Omg thank you for calling them out and saving me money. I was looking for Papaya reviews and found your video. I ended up buying a pack of Wettex for less than $8 on Amazon. Lol
I almost got sucked in by this exact same Instagram ad. I've never heard of Swedish dishcloths and thought it was an amazing new invention. I started poking around and did find out about Swedish dishcloths! Thank you for making this video.
Lmao this was great. Good job! I also get frustrated by such things and call out their bullshit now and then.
Thanks for sharing your story! Unfortunately, I bought some Papaya brand cloths right before seeing your video. So, they got me for $18, but thanks to you, I'll be buying them on ebay from now on. You rock!👍🏽👍🏽
I had to snoop. On one of their videos (from nov 14th) they answer a question of where they are made. They are apparently made in Germany and printed + packed in China? Not so sustainable after that. Seems like they might be really cheap to make if they ship them to china.
Quite impressive to ship a product between 3 continents and call themselves Eco-friendly. I try to see past virtue signalling as best I can but to make up stories and then brag about it is pathetic.
If they are made in Germany it might be the current owners of Wettex that is just trying to scam more money out of people.
No way 😂 that’s a very good point about being sustainable!
@@Merecir The company was sold to Germany and has two production plants today, one in Sweden and one in Germany. So in Sweden we have the "Swedish" ones.
Thank you so much for your video. When I see products like this selling at crazy prices, I always check for honest reviews, and see if there is a knock off somewhere. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this!
Thanks for being the person to say something and saving me the money 😅 I was intrigued by an eco friendly solution to my paper towel habit but thought something was schemey about their ads. Now I know!
Wow this is RIDICULOUS!!! Thank you for posting this. I was curious to purchase and I’m so glad I came here.
One thing that I’ve purchased from instagram is kizik, and I love my shoes. They are a bit overpriced but the shoes are a dream.
Thank you! I just saw the ad And was thinking about buying them and I’m glad I now know where to find them 👍
For two weeks I LABORED over spending the money on Papaya cloths. Finally I went on Amazon and typed in “papaya cloth” because I thought if I’m spending this much money I want to be able to return them if I hate them. Swedish dish cloths popped right up. I googled, “are papaya cloths Swedish dish cloths”? Brought me to this video and I saved a ton of money! Geeze!!
I know it’s been a year but good for you!!!! They’re taking advantage of people who aren’t familiar with Swedish dishcloths!
Thank you so much!!!! I thought these can’t be this expensive!! So glad I watched this.
I just saw the ad on Instagram and I wanted to see reviews so I searched UA-cam and you popped up! I had no idea what a Swedish dishcloth was, thank you for saving me the money! Will be getting these from Amazon lol
Never heard about Swedish dish cloths but glad I saw this because I saw the papaya instagram ad and had it in my cart.
I found your video because I was looking for real opinions of Papaya. I got in love with their product yesterday until I Saw the price!!! And I was like ehhhh… reviews please. I would not going to expend that much if this product is not worth it. I’m so glad I did!!! Thank you thank you. I look at Amazon for Swedish clothes and voila!!!! And better designs too 👍🏽😊 thank you ❤
Go getém Meagan! I´m so proud that you still are cheering for Sweden. And companies like that one deserves to be called out indeed. I dont use Insta I get enough commercials as it is already. I hope you will come back to us. If you are you´r very welcome home! 🤗
Girl thank you. Getting some made from Sweden now for a fraction of the cost. 16.50 for one cloth is ridiculous!
Wow thanks for this video. I never heard of a Swedish cloth but I did see this ad on ig and researched it and ran into this video. I rather buy the ones on Amazon now. Its great you exposed them. I don't think that's right of Papaya to not acknowledge its been around for decades
THANK YOU FOR SAVING US MONEY! I was in their website, totally thrown bc of the ad I saw in IG. I was thinking to buy the pack of 2 for $20. But I kinda remember I have used something similar before and maybe can buy it in a dollar store. Good I did some research and saw your video.
thank you!!! i’m so mad i found this after i purchased papaya’s swedish dish cloths and never will again
I just love your voice and you are so humble. ♥️
Well, we love you for trying, ranting and feeling the feels :)
I love your video! Recently their ads keep popping up on my insta feed for some reasons. I checked the price and that was ridiculous. I'm not from Sweden but this is also pretty common in other countries. It's just stupid and even blocked you that totally not make sense..
Thank you for sharing. I’m glad I searched for reviews!
THANK YOU!! I had never heard of these kind of dishcloths so I thought it was awesome - but I can’t afford that price for so few! Knowing what to search for now on Amazon I just bought 10 for $17.99 (CAD) instead of 2 for $22!
I don’t have Instagram,FB, or Twitter. Never signed up for Twitter and stopped using the other two 8 yrs ago! I feel healthy and more relaxed!
Omg so grateful I found your video! Almost spent $50 bucks on dishcloths! Thank you for calling them out! Also their ads are back! Dun dun duuuuuun! 😱
Yes this is true! I just found a Swedish dishcloth website that straight up now states “watch out for imposters” that many are trying to imitate them and their products but that the real one ☝️ has the true sustainable cloths. And guess what I was shocked 🫢 😳 when it stated our cloths are 70% cellulose and 30 % cotton, that’s when my mind started going wait this sounds familiar haha 🤣 damn papaya!
was invented in 1949 by Curt Lindquist. [1] Wettex's main purpose is to dry up liquids. The sponge cloth is a non-woven fabric consisting of regenerated cellulose reinforced with cotton fiber. Since 1990, production has been part of Freudenberg & Co (Vileda). Examples of areas of use are general cleaning, sanitation and kitchen. The annual production is 220 million rags.
Just seeing Papaya on my FB feed, I had been gifted a Swedish dishcloth but I didn’t know what it was called or how to properly clean it….so I trashed it- now I’m looking for more!! Thanks for saving me some significant change!!! 🤑🤑🤑
Oh my goodness thank you so much for this video I was looking for reviews to buy this product since it was so pricey now I just bought 5 on eBay for around the same price for one of the papaya brand You just saved me so much money 💕💕💕💕💕
Thanks so much, your video really helped and saved me so much money! I was really interested in the products so I just bought the 10 pack on Amazon for significantly less money.
This is the sort of thing that the Internet was invented for -- shoot this straight into my veins! When you inspected the HTML to prove your point I lost it.
The smudge in the upper left corner on your video made me trying to use my dishcloth on my phone 🥳 happy new year and please fix your wall ❤️
Haha oops! I tried to do the same thing when I was editing… I’m still trying to find a good background here, so hopefully that’ll be fixed for next time 😌
Thanks for the video. I was up late and almost fell for them on a sale. I was the shopping danger zone but decided to wait . Glad I did. Amazon has so many
Thank you for this!
I LOVE that you did this. Thank you so much.
You deserve more likes and views for this video. You are saving people thousands. Thank you!
I seriously love seeing all of the comments saying how much money they saved! So happy I can help :)
I've never heard them being referred to as Swedish dishcloths until I started noticing Americans talking about them. In Sweden we typically refer to them as Wettex cloths, regardless if they are actually Wettex or not.
BTW, a friend made a dress suit from Wettex cloths! 🤣
Jag och många andra säger Disktrasa = dishcloth.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! i just canceled my order with them now that i know what they are!!!!
I'm going to comment this too on their website! I think it should be illegal to block everyone that don't agree with your product!
Thank you! Swedish dish cloths! I was just about to buy some of these papayas from Instagram cause I hate wasting (but it seemed too sketchy with the flashy marketing and hype)
Thanks, you made me laugh and taught me something new. Never really thought about the humble Wettex dish cloth before :)
Girl you are a real one. I liked their ad and checked their website and saw that price!? Found such cute cloths on Amazon for $10-15 for 6-10 packs! Smh snakes right
Thanks for this review!
Thanks a lot for your sharing! It's lucky for me to find out your video before deciding buying it.
