To me it really does seem it was a nerve agent. Either they were disposing of it or some of it leaked somewhere. A weird wind current carried it to them and by pure chance missed the only survivor. Government keeps quiet because they weren't supposed to still have that nerve agent, or it was improperly disposed of, etc. The amount was enough to bring them close to death, but not quite, and they ended up dying of hypothermia. As ridiculous as that sounds, it's the least ridiculous of all the theories.
Immedieate haemorrhage? And hysteria? It's affecting the brain and its corroding nerves. Doesn't add up If the nerve gas causes nerves to dissapear and cause bleeding then they would suffocate to death first if it was in the wind. Your body gains oxygen by blowing wind in your blood essentially. The blood automatically captures the oxygen. If this haemorrhage gas went in your lungs your blood would just leak in your lungs and you wouldn't be able to breathe.
@@panqueque445 I'm thinking of that, it seems like an imense amount of pressure built up causing the horrificness of the deaths. Perhaps something chemical?? One things for sure, the unknown is the most alluring thing to unsolved circumstances.
@Ordonity Out of horror and shock. Some people see death around them and commit suicide to gain agency over their own death before something else kills them.
The most disturbing part of all this, I think, is that there's someone out there who knows what happened. Someone in the Russian government or something that was behind the cover up, who when they were told what happened, knew it must be kept secret. Someone out there knows or knew. And their silence is what scares me more than anything.

I really feel like they must've eaten some sort of fungus or something, and the girl that survived was the only one who didn't eat it. The head hiker was known for foraging for food while hiking, and she could've mistaken it for something else. The girl that survived could've simply not eaten enough to die, or she could've been asleep at the time the others ate it. It also makes sense for why it wouldn't show up in their system, because it would be hard to test for an unidentified type of mushroom toxin.
but for the toxin to cause symptoms in all 6 people almost simultaneously, considering they likely ate different amounts, had different weight/metabolic states/genetic disposition? almost impossible honestly. you would expect the onset of poisoning symptoms to be hours or even days apart, definitely not a few minutes.
@@krusher9977 Some nerve agents only need shit in the nanograms to be effective, but the digestive times in the liver should all be the same. Other people are talking about possible rain run off from Russia chemical testing that some plants would uptake, so if the one person who survived didnt eat it, that could be the reason for why. Also sometimes extream stress (like watching someone die) can speed up the absorption/ circulation of a toxic as the body goes into fight or flight mood
@@sharrpshooter1 you're kind of right but kind of wrong with one point there. The fight or flight response is mostly a epinephrine response and it practically stops digestion but it does increase blood circulation and lowers blood filtering. So if it had already been digested and absorbed then it would speed this up but if it had not been digested this would actually slow the process. Good points regardless though and I mean honestly the annoying thing is that everything is just speculation and we will likely never know the truth.
@@krusher9977 They could've eaten it that morning. While some people might have some sort of predisposition to not get as sick, It's not an outrageous notion a group of people who ate about the same amount of a poisonous fungus would all roughly get the same effect with symptoms and even dying, especially without medical treatment.
Maybe it just wasn't covered in this video but I find Valentina's story highly suspect. Why, exactly, are we believing her again? Her claims are sensational but there's basically no proof it ever happened. Here are the only real facts we have: the other hikers died near each other. That's all we basically know, thanks to the fact the search wasn't done until decomposition and predation had made it very difficult to know how they died. The point is we have only one witness with a crazy story and no evidence. The coroner ruled the deaths to be hypothermia + one heart attack. I find this explanation very credible. Based on Valentina's account, they were all soaking wet in freezing conditions, and they weren't able to light a fire the night before. I can easily imagine them collapsing in the snow. One dies of a heart attack from fatigue and the others freeze to death. Valentina makes it out but has survivor's guilt and makes up a story rather than admit she just left them behind. If you read this Russian article on the incident, it tells a less sensational story than Cadaber. I'm not blaming him, he did research and probably found the sensational story written as fact. This account is still bizarre but far less paranormal. In this incident only Sasha dies with blood and foam coming out of him. One does bash her head against a rock, and the others run away. Valentina grabs a few supplies and heads off with her wits still about her. This only lends further credibility to the hypothermia theory. Let's not forget these kids were pushing themselves to the uttermost limit of human endurance and spent the night soaking wet and freezing. According to this article, the leader made many other poor decisions that likely led to their deaths. Russians pushing themselves and others too hard to prove themselves is an old story. parki-himki.ru/en/zagadochnaya-gibel-alpinistov-na-perevale-hamar-daban/
I'm surprised that more people are not talking about this. It's possible she could have been hallucinating from the hypothermia, fatigue or the shock of the first death. Her account of the story is more or less credible to me...
she could possibly have had nightmares from her survivor's guilt that lead to her remembering the story different each time (plus the ptsd from something like this wont be helping her remember it correctly either), until it became this, or maybe its to make them seem more heroic than how they actually died
yeah, honestly. she was probably suffering from hypothermia too so I felt like- since it wasn’t mentioned that there was any on the scene- the blood from the eyes and ears was a hallucination of valentina. we can’t really say for sure everyone actually died within that time frame and such, and I think the girl who bashed her head against a rock was also hallucinating
Right?! They have ZERO shame when it comes to poisoning enemies, and that shit didn't end with the cold war's end. Putin has had dozens of critics poisoned.
I agree. It would allow sufficient time for the nerve agent to either breakdown or be dissipated by natural forces. This gives credence to the possibility of government involvement and coverup or either covert testing or an accidental release. "Nothing to see here but a bunch of young and poorly-equipped hikers dead from hypothermia...now move along."
it was explained in reports : ""Russian police, suspecting that runoff from the test (Novichok ) could be the cause of the deaths, waited to start their search in order to ensure that the agent had mostly evaporated before sending a recovery team."" thats why they waited one month
Really nobody outside of the intelligence community knew about this stuff till after the USSR collapsed and the documents came to light. Cant fear what you dont know
Sounds a lot like the effects of nerve agents. That said, why would chemical weapons be in the middle of nowhere and tested here of all places? All other testing sites in major countries are in areas where effects can be observed and contained. Very very weird.
i agree it does really sound like either a chemical agent OR a bioweapon of some variety. I'm not one to buy into conspiracy theories for most things, but i don't believe that things like magnetic fields and infrasound can cause this kind of behavior in people. Russia was and still is known for very sloppy tests and procedures where it's more important to get "good results" then it is to make sure nobody gets hurt, or that things are done in a safe way (ie Chernobyl, lake karachay) due largely in part to the political climate there. this was BARELY after the official "end" of the cold war so it would make sense that they would be looking to test other ways of causing mass destruction, for lack of better term. It would explain why it took them two weeks to send out a recovery party, as well.
Something that occured to me while watching was the means which the proposed nerve agent afflicted the hikers. What I realized after a bit of thinking is that this case is very reminiscent of poisonings, where the most common means of ailment is ingestion. If a group of adult bodies consumed a powerful nerve agent near simultaneously, though contaminated food most likely, it would also take effect near simultaneously. If one person refused this contaminated food, they could be spared from fate. Explains how there could be a survivor.
@@benwilliams4942 I was thinking something similar. If they'd had something at the station in town, maybe while the remaining member was preoccupied doing something, its reasonably likely that they might all be affected within minutes of one another
Even if she was exposed to whatever the rest of them were but had less exposure, we would still see SOME symptoms, just not as dramatic. Why is no one considering the possibility that she poisoned them - or was somehow involved? The only account of the events is hers, right? And some of it seems... questionable? That one of the girls spontaneously decided to kill herself by bashing her head into a rock is awfully suspicious, isn't it? It sounds like murder, as though the poison that was meant to take effect didn't and someone resorted to other means. And if it wasn't her, she'd at least be covering for someone else in that case.. There's no evidence she ran away and later returned either, is there? She was found really close to the campsite; couldn't she have just stayed near it waiting to hear from the other team?
@@bobb4244 It could also be possible that she wasn't exposed if the poison was in something they consumed by mistake and she didn't eat it. Some sort of toxic plant or fungus, or food/water contaminated by chemical dumping or toxic runoff from a factory.
@@LifeComedyAction immunity doesn't exist. However in Toxicology you learn of concepts of how there's members of any given population that are naturally more resilient against certain things. For example, when you calculate an LD50, we're aiming for a concentration of a toxin that will kill half the population of an animal species. The most naturally resilient will survive, while the most sensitive die. In this case, it's really 2 options: 1. The surviving girl is tolerant (not immune) and can survive the concentration of LD50 (the amount of toxin that would probably kill 50% of humans) 2. Had a low concentration of toxin in her body
“Valentina watched, frozen in horror…” I think that’s why she made it. Dennis, who initially tried to run away, lasted the second longest. I think this is a clue. The convulsions and severe pain could something like a nerve agent that doesn’t cause paralysis possibly in gas form passing though the air. Maybe Valentina just happened to breathe a cleaner air current? Seems like the government knew which is why they delayed sending the search party out.
A nerve agent, like the one discussed in the video, would be my first guess. As to _how_ the group was actually exposed to the nerve agent, I can only speculate. My second guess, which I think is more likely, is that everyone in the group, except for the sole survivor, consumed some kind of toxic fungus or poisonous mushroom. If they all ate it at the same time, it would hit their digestive tracks at relatively the same time, which explains why all of the deaths happened within seconds or minutes of each other.
Definitely sounds like poisoning of some kind, whether it's unintentional or not. Novichok can be ingested, I believe, so maybe it was that and they ate it without knowing. Or some more natural type of toxin. If they were doing novichok testing in the area in the past, maybe there's a chance it got into the water or snow. Coulda just been really unlucky set of hikers. If it were hypothermia it seems really weird to me that they'd all be hit with the effects at the same time.
I personally agree with this, considering how after the fall of the Soviet Union, the Russian military was disorganised and often mishandled potential issues, I think there was a mishandling of a nerve agent which led to this.
Another possible reason why it all happened so quickly is that if they had ingested something, then as soon as the first person collapsed it would have caused a panic in the others, with increased heart rate and blood flow, etc, which would be like a catalyst for the toxin/poison, causing it to spread throughout their bodies a lot faster.
In a capsule maybe? That my explain sudden onset of symptoms instead of a gradual worsening of condition. A murder case then. Or an unfortunate accident.

All nerve agents are "that powerful." But it takes a sufficient dose (usually miniscule) in order to have an effect. Environmental conditions play a role in how effective the dispersal of a nerve agent (or any other chemical agent) might be in a given situation. Chemical agents also break down over time, sometimes in just a matter of hours. So it's possible for someone to enter a contaminated zone, survive while others don't, and then return to the area and again avoid contamination simply because the chemical agent had already decayed into non-toxic compounds. However, this does not present as a nerve agent at all. The bleeding from the orifices is not a nerve agent symptom. This presents more like a bio weapon, insofar as the symptoms. But to have multiple people stricken by a biological agent at virtually the same time is unlikely, if not impossible. Bio agents are diseases, and bacteria and viruses have an incubation period which is measured in a span of days. It is highly unlikely that multiple persons, even if exposed at the same time, would all present symptoms within minutes of each other. Nerve agents do not act by causing bleeding, they act by causing the nervous system to switch completely "on," thus disrupting the normal transmission of nerve signals (which have to be able to switch between "on" and "off"). Specifically, bleeding is NOT a symptom of exposure to a Novichok agent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novichok_agent#Effects_and_countermeasures Me: Former nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare NCO in a combat support company of a mechanized infantry battalion.

I've never been this early! I've been loving your videos lately, you do a great job with everything. From the research, narration, visuals, and editing. It's all amazing
Surely the most simple explanation is hypothermia. there is absolutely no objective evidence of bleeding from orifices or everyone dying within 5 minutes. All that is based on the immediate rambling testimony of a teenage girl, malnourished, hypothermic and likely delirious. We never even got a second chance to clarify the story because of her silence. There is however, evidence of horrible weather conditions, rain-soaked clothing and no remains of a campfire. Likely most succumbed to hypothermia, one had hyperkalaemia from tissue damage and suffered an arrhythmia, and the survivor had hallucinations. Not much mystery. Also cholinesterase inhibitors (like VX and Novichok) do not ever cause bleeding.
Even extreme cases of hyperthermia and altitude sickness (which is highly unlikely btw, given the height of the trail) doesn't cause bleeding as described.
Uhh, I don’t know if maybe what I’m thinking makes no sense in the long run, but what about radiation poisoning? I looked it up and it kinda seems like the named symptoms fit, and it can present itself much later than the original exposure. The group would’ve only had to been exposed when they were together without Valentina (for example if she joined the group last/later, or Valentina might’ve slept a little larger distance away from the origin because of which she would’ve gotten less exposure) and only presented symptoms during the climb, while Valentina didn’t get the exposure/got less exposure and therefore showed no signs of it. If the government was testing some nuclear stuff or disposing of nuclear waste secretly nearby, they could’ve put the pieces together when they heard the story and tried to cover it up. Ludmila, on the other hand, could’ve suspected the government was doing something in the mountains (perhaps even in a certain area) and opted to take the risk of exposing her pupils to the harsh environment rather than risk stumbling upon what would most likely been a death sentence. Again, I haven’t researched this at all so I could be wrong, but I feel like this makes some sense.
From what I’ve read, radiation sickness is usually slower acting. Instead of effecting the victims in minutes, it would effect them in the following weeks and years. Though I do agree, this seems like the symptoms of radiation sickness.
That would be absurd. It would have to be more radiation exposure than the elephants foot in the in Chernobyl and the surviving chick would most definitely have some kind of measurable damage. And If it was chronic exposure, they wouldn't have all been symptomatic at the same time. It's a nerve agent. Trust me I'm in Toxicology and know my stuff

Very well done. The nerve agent you talked about is interesting, and it’s possible by the time their autopsies were done, the agent was no longer detectable in the body. Maybe it’s possible (though I don’t know exactly how to explain the how and why) that Valentina was ‘immune’ to whatever happened because of genetics or the chemistry of her body.

And her story is backed up by... let's see.... her word, that's it. Why are we entertaining this?! She's delusional or she lied. They froze. End of story? Really unclear on what's so mysterious about it. Then again, only 15 minutes into the video, so perhaps these things are addressed, not counting on it though. I'm going with the Novichok theory. It's a mountain range with isolated groups of hikers and campers spread out over a relatively large area, perfect for testing a chemical weapon and getting results without killing an entire town. All it would take is for them to release an aerosolized version of it over the area. This isn't uncommon, either. This happened multiple times during the Cold War, in the United States and England specifically.

Agreed
To me it really does seem it was a nerve agent. Either they were disposing of it or some of it leaked somewhere. A weird wind current carried it to them and by pure chance missed the only survivor. Government keeps quiet because they weren't supposed to still have that nerve agent, or it was improperly disposed of, etc. The amount was enough to bring them close to death, but not quite, and they ended up dying of hypothermia. As ridiculous as that sounds, it's the least ridiculous of all the theories.
pretty much word for word what I was thinking.

@@Viktoria-yn5yn You know it
Immedieate haemorrhage? And hysteria? It's affecting the brain and its corroding nerves. Doesn't add up
If the nerve gas causes nerves to dissapear and cause bleeding then they would suffocate to death first if it was in the wind.

@@Charlie-hv3dh the dyatlov pass incident was a messed up avalanche but the conspiracy theories are cool ideas to try to make sense of a horrible accident

It’s crazy tho I asked chat gpt about this 1993 incident and it started telling about the dyatolv pass incident in 1959. Then I asked about the survivors and it said there was no survivors. Then I asked it so what about Valentina Utchenko then? and chat gpt said that Valentina utchenko never went on the dyaltov pass because she was sick or something along those lines. Then I specified asking it about the 1993 incident and it said there wasn’t much information on it and didn’t really give me an answer. There’s also a Lyudmila in this incident 1993 and the 1950’s one. Strange coincidence? 🤔 also if you look up this 1993 incident on google there isn’t much info on it.
Im surprised nobody else has covered this, at first i thought this was yet another video on the Dyatlov Pass but this was much more satisfying.

I thought this was the dyatlov pass story that I heard in boyscouts but now I’m just disturbed that this was a whole different situation. It happened twice like what the fuck.
You thought a video called "The Khamar Daban Incident" would be about the Dyatlov Pass incident?
I really feel like they must've eaten some sort of fungus or something, and the girl that survived was the only one who didn't eat it. The head hiker was known for foraging for food while hiking, and she could've mistaken it for something else. The girl that survived could've simply not eaten enough to die, or she could've been asleep at the time the others ate it. It also makes sense for why it wouldn't show up in their system, because it would be hard to test for an unidentified type of mushroom toxin.
Wow, someone with common sense
but for the toxin to cause symptoms in all 6 people almost simultaneously, considering they likely ate different amounts, had different weight/metabolic states/genetic disposition? almost impossible honestly. you would expect the onset of poisoning symptoms to be hours or even days apart, definitely not a few minutes.

If a nerve agent was responsible then that would explain the delay of the search party.
I agree. It would allow sufficient time for the nerve agent to either breakdown or be dissipated by natural forces. This gives credence to the possibility of government involvement and coverup or either covert testing or an accidental release.
"Nothing to see here but a bunch of young and poorly-equipped hikers dead from hypothermia...now move along."
it was explained in reports : ""Russian police, suspecting that runoff from the test (Novichok ) could be the cause of the deaths, waited to start their search in order to ensure that the agent had mostly evaporated before sending a recovery team.""
thats why they waited one month
The delay could also simply be - they knew the hikers were all dead, so not much of a sense of urgency
Damn at least you see a Nuke coming and slowly die in a bunker, but this shit should have scared a lot more people during the cold war

A poison or toxin of some kind seems the most likely, the one survivor just might not have gotten as much exposure
Or could have some sort of immunity via genetics
@@bobb4244 she wasn't close to the campsite when kayakers found her. She'd been walking a couple days.
In this case, it's really 2 options:
1. The surviving girl is tolerant (not immune) and can survive the concentration of LD50 (the amount of toxin that would probably kill 50% of humans)
2. Had a low concentration of toxin in her body
“Valentina watched, frozen in horror…” I think that’s why she made it. Dennis, who initially tried to run away, lasted the second longest. I think this is a clue.
Accidental poisoning is my preferred theory, in that it fits all the facts known. Add in oine person who just doesn't like mushrooms...
@The Robloxian Minecrafter dude...
Maybe they ate something the survivor didnt eat.

Your channel is CRIMINALLY underrated. But I swear soon enough this channel will blow up.

@@UnknownPerson-wg1hw excellent point
Could been radon poisoning which lessons the oxygen.

This happened multiple times during the Cold War, in the United States and England specifically.

why did i see this just before going to sleep. now im both scared and intrigued.
I've actually been waiting for you to cover this one and dyatlovs pass...they're just my favorites but i totally understand not wanting to talk about the other one. Thank you for your hard work!!
I didnt know how young the hikers were until now. That makes it even worse
This is excellent. I love finding quality channels that are new to me.
Great video! Some people saw it early since you put it in a playlist btw.
You haven't even seen the whole video why u saying great video
@@bruh-xn7ci “some people saw it early”
@@Piggg440 oh my bad sorry
I've seen this covered by almost every channel like this and you're the first person to give more info than anyone else has so far. Good fucking job dude. This channel is amazing, the deep dive video was awesome. I'd pay to see more of those for real.
If it’s something to do with the Russian Gvnmt, maybe it’s not that she didn’t WANT to talk, but was instructed to keep quiet. JAT.
No natural death can occur with those symptoms , only nerve agents are that toxic , that’s probably why the survivor was frightened into being silent ; also two weeks to find a group of young people it’s as if they knew what to expect to find ,
Soviets were always covering up all sorts of things, from different sexualities, lack of everyday products, military operations and strange phenomenons they couldn´t explain by science.
That´s why there are many wild speculations out there.
Tbh there are only two theories tho: poisonous weed or froze to death plus malnutrition. Majority thinks it was latter. Witness drasticly changed her story.
@@ЕкатеринаСеренкова there is also another one which is Leaked Nerve Gas, which doesn't really sound that Bizzare
@@Ludwig_Perpenhente from where? Thats a middle of nowhere. I understand Ural which is a centre of metallurgy and probably military factories. Hey on South from Dyatlov pass is two places with meteorite, antrax leak and radiation. But who will use nerve agent in this god forlorn place?
@@ЕкатеринаСеренкова Well... That I don't have a clue, but, it is a possibility. This is Russian Soil after all
@mate with a plate its not really that out of this world, and it also isn't that plausible. But its all up in the air as to what the hell happened
i have never seen such an under appreciated video on youtube. this is heat and deserves more attention!!!
Had never heard of this case. Interesting!
It's not everyday that UA-cam recommends me 20+ minute video. But this one, I have *Zero* regret on the every. Single. Second. I spent to watch this video. You just earned a new sub.
I mean the government taking two weeks to send rescue basically confirms the gas hypothesis
Just gotta say man, for a channel with 85k subs you make videos with such high quality I’d almost say they’re better than the ones being made by the mystery giants. (Nexpo reignbot scaretheater etc.) keep up the absolutely amazing work.
