The Cost of Doing Business, I'd say. They demand the same from their tenants, it's only reasonable that their tenants ask the same of them.
Now imagine having 50 former tenants who each need 50 references. That's 2500 references. One might imagine there would be an automated system for that.

Let's remind ourselves that government created the economic conditions necessary for this exploitation to continue. If demand wasn't artificially inflated all the time, prices would come down and renters could actually choose not to put up with exploitative bullshit rather than have to take anything they can get, even if it's overpriced, filthy, and unsafe.

I was in my early 20s not working due to disability and had a giant dog. I only left it three years ago to own. How times have changed, someone like young me never could now.

    • @iuliua
      @iuliua 6 місяців тому +9

if there are experienced bartenders looking for jobs wouldn't you hire them rather than a new dude?
to answer your question: it will balance itself out eventually...let me explain..
now there is surpus of bartenders....fewer people will become bartenders because it's hard to get your first job(so they will move into other type of jobs)..
after a while there will be a shortage of bartenders(since there are fewer new people coming in than people going out of bartendering)
at that time it will be easier to get a job as a bartender until there is another surplus...

So what you do to avoid the higher taxes is keep a bunch of your apartments emoty then you raise the rent on the other tenants to compensate the vacant tax at its a bucket load lower then the tax on the occupied apartments so we have heaps of available apartments and houses if the government wants to remove that tax.😂
All taxes are past to the end consumer you tax the rich we pass it down and the bottom pays thats how it goes. Tax on food passed down to the lower, tax on fuel if business pass it down to the lower, tax on house pass it down to the lower.

At least I’m not the only person with similar issues. I can’t even count all the places I’ve lived. It’d be easier to pretend I’ve never left my parent’s home the past 12 years and just make up a fake document saying I’ve paid them $1k a month rent after turning 18 but I thought they wanted an honest tenant.

What's worse in the USA is that the "application" now includes a non-refundable "fee" sometimes asking as high as fifty dollars! And you don't know IF the place is ACTUALLY available, not do you know who the "landlord" even is! Yes, that's a major violation of any Real Estate Code of Ethics AND the Credit Bureau Standards, but not enforced in the USA. Think: fifty applicaitons at 50 bucks EACH and ONE place available, maybe??? Ka Ching!!! Free money, and it's legal.

The real estate agent said the owner of my apartment, won't let me on a periodic lease because it would take him too long to find a new tenant.... didn't make sense seeing as I moved in not a week after the last tenant moved out. 🤪

Don't forget about the application fees. Sometimes I wonder why rental houses sit vacant for months at a time while every apartment complex has a long waiting list. Makes me think landlords are just making a living off of application fees.

The reason they wanna make sure you can actually pay is because(at least in my country) after a renter leaves they need to repair any damage and person a professional clean of the apartment before getting someone new in.
Meaning if they take in someone who can't make their payments and gets kicked out in the first month then they lose money on that Renter

So i am glad you made this a subject.
there is a place i really enjoyed living at. rent used to be $545 starting out. it was worth it because they also had a body building gym (small, but manageable) and a pool... not near the gym but in the area. these days if i would go there and find an apartment its $800 plus the same stuff, but i dont think its worth the money at that price.
if prices for everything came way down, PEOPLE WOULD BUY MORE!

The housing "crisis" is reaching apocalyptic proportions. I'm extremely lucky that I have a roof over my head - and that's despite having a full-time and well paying job. If I didn't have the job I do, I'd be sunk without a hope.
They need to build more houses, and build more NOW - and as much as I am for a multi-cultural Australia, we need to limit immigration until the housing crisis is resolved for the people living here. If the government gets its priorities straight and starts building like made NOW - then the crisis might be resolved in 5 years (if we're lucky).

it isnt a supply issue its a landlord issue, There is more than enough housing to house everyone in the country and then some. But because housing is a commodity there are empty hotels, apartments and houses while people are on the streets. Landlords are known to buy up a shit ton of houses and then only put a few up for sale to artificially limit supply. Unfortunately this is a systematic problem and systematic problems require systematic change so yea.
