Last time I was flying back into Melb from Sydney, I was still stoned after a 3 day bender with mates. Security guy comes up and starts waving this thing all over me. I'm sweating bullets, expecting my friend might have slipped something in my stuff for the trip home. Turned out he was scanning for explosives!
They say it's random but it's 100% based on how sketchy you look. I've been stopped for a "random" bomb search literally every time I've departed from Newcastle airport. Even twice on the same day when my plane was delayed and I went out the front for a cheeky cig and had to go back through the scanner again.
Modern day Qantas baggage handlers have CLEARLY studied at Murph’s school of baggage handling 😆😆😆
The ones who didn't get sacked, at least. QANTAS fired 2500 of their ground staff during covid and other contractors got the gig. They still have the ground crew for their smaller airline, Qantas Link.
