They got it from the horrible and misearable conditions they had to endure and go through while waiting for action and never got it. It's like studying for an exam for days but it ends up being cancelled. Time and effort wasted

i always liked that to. i noticed in fury cortez does the same thing when the tank hits a mine and hes talking to either bible or coonhouse looking at the busted track on the tank
@@RookieCDLDriver i really liked it alot. one of my favorites. its a tank journey in ww2 with a good cast of brad pitt and 3 others. some people who like to nitpick war movies didnt like it much but those are some of my fav actors. its worth a watch.
@@eutropius2699 that was just placement for post production to edit on. chances were that during the production, the oil wells we saw in the final product any way were just studio lights, and they added SFX/CGI to finish up the raging fires. The same would've been done to those studio lights we can see in the video. It's just an unfinished scene. So yeah, there really doesn't seem to be any reason why they would cut this scene out. Throughout the movie there was a level of build up towards needing gas masks at some point, they went through training in putting on the gas masks in a short amount of time, but unfortunately we never got to see the payoff for that build up, they removed that payoff. Shame
This whole movie shows Marines as very unstable. As on edge. Every one of the characters goes crazy, or loses it, or comes near to cracking up. No wonder the USMC derided this movie. Captain Nathaniel Fick, promoted from Lt after OIF, reviewed the book. He disliked it's portrayal of Marines. He said Marines are trained to remain calm in situations of extreme stress - and that the movie did a disservice to real Gulf War STA Marines.

My guess is they likely replaced this scene with Krueger getting the oil in his eyes as it was more realistic, since losing your mask is goofy. Might’ve actually happened, could be in the book, I’ve yet to read, but for movies sake they likely wanted it to seem more real. Another option is they had both the Krueger oil eyes scene and this one, but decided to keep only one because two scenes with a similar pretense really close to each other isn’t good when it comes to filmmaking. As I mentioned, just my guess, don’t take this as complete fact.
Yeah your gas mask is pretty important. I'd like to think I would have noticed it was gone before I ever needed it. I was in Iraq twice and especially during the initial invasion (which I was not part of) and earlier in the campaign the possibility of a CBRN attack was brought up fairly often. My second deployment later in the war and my third, which was to Afghanistan, not so important although I definitely always had one. I'm actually pretty certain I never lost any of my TA50 ever, I think I only claimed I lost a few of my cold weather gear and other items that I wanted to take home.
Correct. The movie and the book are 99 percent exaggerated. Swafford himself, in real life is a leftist who hates the military. He's said so. He said he hates the Marines and he should never have joined. He's a PoS. The movie is entertaining but it's nonsense
i think at 1.27 in the song it was used and looped and they didnt use the whole song maybe. or maybe not used at all. i think when you start the dvd it might be in the menu selection but i think it was in the movie to. i havent watched it in a while id have to rewatch. it actually sounds a little similar to the salton sea when val kilmer is pouring his beer on the floor

How TF do you not have your mask on you? When I was in, we checked our gear constantly to make sure we had everything.
That’s why they are so hard on accountability of gear in the marines - because of this type of stuff.
Such a waste to cut. It shows real love between the characters and just how precariously everybodys shit was put on.
If it was me I would make that sacrifice to my fellow marine, even if it means giving my life up to someone.
