man this game was one of the best mmos i played when it was released first time, miss the old days.
We hear so many good stories of the old days of ArcheAge, honestly seems like a missed potential.
and it wasn't even close
A technical marvel for its time, and just overall massive potential, but between greed of publishers milking the cashshop and catering to making your character stronger than other players (by a large margin) ..aka heavy Pay to Win, ruined the game. It was great when players were on a relatively even playing field, but as people kept advancing further and further because they have all the time and money... trying to enjoy pvp content was shattered.

I played this back when it first opened, and the game was absolutely rampant with hackers and cheaters, especially those who would steal housing plots before it could even be open for auction biddings. Back then, real estate was very precious.
The devs either could not fix it, or would not. Either way, I never came back.
Understandable, that is super annoying. I know FFXIV had the same problem before they made the housing plot be RNG between bidders, rather than click first horror lol

People talk about P2W, but really the issues with this game are dailies driven gear (Hiram), runaway power progression, and the oversaturation of scheduled events and instances in what's supposed to be an open world sandbox. It's still absolutely worth giving a try if you have never played it though IMO.

It is a shame the story is not very interesting in the beginning. I actually started playing Archeage Classic on a private server yesterday. There are things I really like about it so far, like combat, and movement seems fluid.
But the story as you mentioned is a bit lacking. At least on Day 1. I do hope it gets better. My understanding is that on the private server they actually are making improvements to the game. So I am curious to see how that works out.
Its such a blessing that private servers exist but its also always sad to see that private servers show so much more love to the games that seem abandoned by the developers, reminds me of what has happened to Lineage 2 as well. I really hope you will have fun and that the game gets better! :)

Seems like it can be bitter-sweet, at least when you're doing content for something you're passionate about. :D

I tried it the other day never played before and maybe because I went ranged or just the gunner class but the combat just felt dated and boring. The combat just didnt age well which can be said for the graphics as well nothing after the 1st day playing it made me want to ever boot it back up so I didn't.
Agreed. It is outdated, even for its age. The Combat feels good for a tab target game, but that is indeed a dated form of combat.
