Large scale pvp and pve in open world is the most enjoyable content in the game with the interaction of factions and guilds, along with trade runs and building houses etc. Sieges were good too but end game no life p2w whales had only access of it for years...

I liked MASSIVE events - naval battles. Pirating was kind of meh, because I was not top dog. So needed to have good group to do trade run. I even liked crafting mechanics, it was pretty awesome. Oh ofcourse you were able to build your house and grow all kind of stuff.. Damn, it was badass game :D

Archeage was a game that game out and it was not ahead of its time, but it was the right game at the right place at the right time.
Then Trion, Gamigo, and Kakao games all took turns bleeding it dry.

@@ParadoxGamingNetwork yup, and thank you for review! I'm checking news about AA2 time-to-time and was hoping to play it this year. Sadly seems that it is not going to happen. Also they kind of mess it all up. There was EVERYTHING. Something for farmers, PVE, massive PVP events, crafting. Sandbox economy. Quests, minigames, storylines..
Then all kind of crap started to happen. I kind of miss it all, but it is what it is.

I am a player from the Southeast Asia server, but unfortunately, the Southeast Asia server will shut down at the end of November 2024. However, I still cherish my memories of ArcheAge. The official direction for ArcheAge 2, which focuses more on improving life skills, is something I really like. But I don't think large-scale PvP should be removed, as this would eliminate the unique features of naval and aerial battles. Although spending money in this game means having more power, I believe large-scale PvP tests the leadership skills of heroes, minimizing the importance of individual combat strength. For example, my friends and I, wearing only ancient gear, were able to cooperate and defeat many players with crafted gear. Additionally, to maintain player engagement, there needs to be opposing forces to keep us motivated to continue playing, which in turn prolongs the game's lifespan.
*This translation was done using GPT, apologies for any errors. I am not a native English speaker but am very interested in AA2 as a player.

I don't really like PvP, and I've been playing AA/AAU since 2014. I was quite active, but I never quite got the hang of the big 50vs50 or 100vs100 PvP at random events (CR, GR, random PvP at some bosses, etc.). It's chaotic, lacking organization; about 70% of the raid comprises non-PvP individuals or alts. You're dying within seconds, and you don't even know who killed you... It's a bit of a mess, to be honest. I think PvP in AA should be somehow preserved and tied to instances or organized PvP events (like Lusca, Kraken, Red/Black Dragon, Halcy...), and it should be somewhat excluded from daily activities like CR, GR, AE, Whale, etc. Just for a test, call out in the Nation chat for CR and see how many people join your raid. Then, do the same but add 'reds here, PvP at CR,' and observe how many people join - it will likely be 10-15 people at most compared to a full raid if there is no PvP involved. I don't know, just thinking out loud.

    • @ParadoxGamingNetwork
      @ParadoxGamingNetwork  6 місяців тому

This is absolutely spot on about the way it was with any nation event if reds were there.

To answer your question it makes me "Just as or a little more likely" to play on launch, simply because I like many aspects of the game and the heavy grouping together of power players to be "an unstoppable onslught" vs the weaker or none heavy cash users which I might add was one of the main reasons the player base died again and again, ultimately destroying the game, yes this large scale heavy grouping of elites should be avoided at all costs, and instead smaller scale groups and guilds of power players vs eachother will create more competition with less mess and destruction of player base.

My favorite memories are from very very early times, when I was in a mercenary guild that had 3 schooners and 3 lutesong junk and about 35 people. We would hire ourselves out to rich merchants who would fill our schooners with their resources and we would get them across the ocean to sell it. There would be spies who tipped off the other faction when we were about to go and would nearly guarantee an attack as we crossed the ocean. Naval PVP was the most intense combat! We would defend our cargo as if it were actually OURS, and the battles I remember were of course, the major victories. The guild would get paid in gold and then divvy out to everyone who had taken part. My first "paycheck" was 2 gold and I think I was about level 25 or 30 and I felt so rich lol. Good times!

I will still at least try to play it and see what is there and if its any good, as with any other game im interested in but remains to be seen if i would stick with it for a while. Even though AA was PTW and all the problems it had with constant fresh restarts or merges that bled the player base dry, i still had lots of fun with it, i played it exclusively for about 2-3 years after all

the issue as always with pvp based games where they make the players the content... is that "pvp" turns quickly into "griefing" and your average dad or mom (crafting) will give up and stop playing in a fairly short order. i can see why, at least for western games, they would go this route. games like this need massive player bases to keep enough money rolling in to support them. your not going to find enough edgelords and pvpers to do that. and even those people quickly lose interest when the potatos or sheep stop playing, because they cant have fun greifing them while they attempt to do trade.
I loved archage, loved it. building my first boat or jumping off that first mountain with my glider was amazing. but the community? pfft. without pve content and ways for folks to spend their time that isn't griefing or getting griefed... it will go the same way every archage 1 server did over time. people get bored, people get frustrated, and the servers die.

This highlights what I've said about gamers being dumber than rats.
A large rat knows it has to let the smaller rat win about 30% of the time when wrestling, or the smaller rat will just not engage any more and they both suffer from boredom.
PvPers should seek out PvPers to fight, people who actually want to fight. That's why objectives are better than open world no restrictions.
When I see a guy with a 97% win rate but all he does is grief, I'm not impressed. But when I see a guy with a 52% win rate but all he does is go after the biggest fish, that's a winning record against tough opponents, that's something.

I think the game was great how it was except for the P2W , which they eliminated eventually with quest gear. Problem is it kind of screwed the market completely and destroyed the economy. they should have made it were you still have to craft or buy items from market. all items should be tradeable, even gear upgrades. To bring the world back to life, you travel and Brokers are setup you sell too, and other players can buy from. Remove ALL housing zone restrictions and just block people from building on spawn points, i saw Masssive amounts of open space not used for anything that people could find a spot to build in. Open world build anywhere, take out prefab buildings and build your own like most other building games. Craft all crafting stations. This was one of my favorite games i spent many hours adventuring and exploring, and LOVED the ocean content. I think they could have just rebuilt the original game on UE5 and just made some of these adjustments and been Great. The Sub payment system is great if your not forced to purchase anything other than cosmetics.

I loved everything about Archeage except for the PvP design decisions which ultimately ruined the game. It had some of the coolest travel/combat/crafting/magic/etc. but the forced PvP that favored overpowered super guilds was just dumb and was never going to work. It actively undermined everything that made it great and took resources away from what could have been awesome PvE End-game. It's very smart of them to refocus on PvE this time.

i played archeage unchained, then got pulled into the merge with archeage + archeage unchained. Lots of things they did well, but the one thing I kept spamming and sending long complaints to the GMs was the way they set up the PVP. Trolls and the a-holes in the game using the open public PVP to bully & harass weaker players to the point they quit because these bullies are interfering with their character development. Allowing open PVP locations in places needed for trades and farming valuable goods. I basically told them, why would you allow open PVP knowing ppl will harass others, and that you cannot control every A-hole out there? The developer team will also have no time to get involved with all these dramas from unsolicited PVP, so in the end the players end up experiencing anger & frustration over and over in the game... who in the world would play a game to get angry?
Its like they forgot that the whole purpose of games should make users feel happy & enjoyable. Yes you can have competition, but not the point that its out of control which is what archeage turned into with all this Open PVP locations.
They should of never design this game to have PVP without BOTH PARTIES' CONSENT (meaning no public PVP in certain locations). Im 100% i wasn't the 1st to quit over out of control bullying & harassments.

    • @ParadoxGamingNetwork

Large scale PVP games do fail because they tend to go poorly, because they aren't designed very well.
If you have 500 vs 500 then the fight is going to boil down to this:
Can my AOE damage dealers out pace their healers AOE healing and
Can my AOE healers sustain their AOE damage dealers.
Instead of putting 500 vs 500 in one place, I'd like to see a game that has 10 objects on a map.
So now instead of 500 vs 500, now you have 10 squads of 50 vs 10 squads of 50, and maybe a strategic leader gives 1 or 2 so they can wipe up at the other 8.
Eve Online blob wars were boring, but being 2-5 systems away having a small scale skirmish at a gate trying to stop reinforcements, that's where the real fun was.

PvP for me was fun when the game first started and everyone’s gear was pretty much the same but when they started putting higher levels and than gearing everything towards guild gameplay it really lost a lot of flare. Was in an incredible guild with really fun people but they all wanted to join bigger guilds for end game content at the time but they all got permanent banned. After that I had a lot of fun as a solo player but couldn’t really do much of anything. Than AA became a guild heavy game which made it impossible to do anything. Dungeons had to be qued and you couldn’t run them alone or with a small party which I kept getting kicked when I just wanted to solo run dungeons. It was a real mess in the end. Would really like to try AA2 if it solo friendly and another company because don’t forget kakao stole money from their player base when they changed everyone’s credit to the rosen currency.

So, I honestly believe what killed AA so fast in NA/EU was that we never started on the 0.0 patch and went up to 0.9 and then got 1.0. We ended up starting on 1.0 where Healing Power was a thing. Everyone was able to rush Obsidian Gear which was meant as "the next" gear set.
I remember Hasla weapons being the thing and spending every rotation down there getting as many tokens as possible.
And yes, Kakao stole people's credits (ua-cam.com/video/SAhjjkdreDg/v-deo.html) which is why I'm so angry that Chrono Odyssey is being published by them.

I feel like this type of pivot would cater more to a player like me where I have done the large scale PVP and large guild raiding and have aged out to the point where life gets in the way to invest enough time for that type of gameplay. Nowadays I play MMOs as a single player experience and don't even partake in endgame dungeons since I'm not able to invest enough time into farming for mats or putting time aside for specific event times in a serious way. That being said I also believe this type of pivot and catering to people like me is what's killing MMO's in the first place, unfortunately corpo executives just care about casting as big of a net as possible to get those big initial purchase numbers so they can show investors upticks on charts. But all in all this change makes me more excited for the game as I will play a bunch of it on release and then put it down after I've had my fun for a couple hundred hours while those executives start to wonder why the numbers take a plummet 2 months after release of a live service game.

I don't really understand how they intend to go with small scale pvp unless they intend to go the same way BDO did where players who are doing trading or lifeskills really have no benefit to be attacked. Majority of conflict in Archeage was trading, the only way I can see that becoming less so is that trade goods don't drop like in BDO.
From what we have seen, in my opinion, Archeage 2 is leaning more towards BDO's combat and less towards Archeage's sandbox. Player choice is one of the major factors of what made Archeage so compelling in the first place, and I really hope they don't lose sight of that.
    But to answer your question...
My favorite memories, and favorite things to do, where dumb shenanigans guild mates and myself got up to. Probably my favorite memory was being alone on my galleon, getting rocketed into the air during a world boss, landing perfectly in between the masts of an enemy guild's ship and just sitting there like "well, them's the breaks". Half my inventory was filled at all times with sheet music so i just pulled out "He's a pirate" before i was killed by the twenty or so people on the ship I landed on.

I played unchained, i quit few months before kakao.
Honestly i quit because of the factions shit, MMORPG and permanent factions doesnt work, specially if theres a factions transfer and shit, the norm of MMO devs should be my players are assholes and they will abuse anything they can, the abuse on AA, transfer to another faction and try to try farm the server.
if a faction die the players left on the faction cant do anything aside quit, instead of clan players system, u just move to another clan/guild etc. aka Lineage2.
I am down to play AA2 as long theres a Hiram equal gear system and thats weekly quest, also theres no Factions, Guild system like L2 will work perfectly fine, if the playerbase hold hands and try to free farm the server, its their decision, but having a faction system locking the playerbase its a big issue for me

Especially eastern games that have p2w mechanics. I'm not saying there is a market for most no-life wins style PvP, but a general audience if they want PvP want something that is competitive with balance not I started 6 months after everyone so I stand no chance just because of gear. Just my 2 cents.

I can understand that. As I'm getting older, I no longer find unrestricted PVP to be my favorite thing. Sure, running around fighting for the sake of fighting sounds great, but I'd rather have organized PVP over meaningful objects like Castles, Town, Territory, Caravans, Ships, Treasure, or even Battlegrounds with a score and a clear winner and loser.

Im very dissapointed in Kakao Games. I'm guessing by the time we get AA 2 that it will just be a thinly veiled BDO2, and theres a very cynical part of me that believes they just arent capable of making good multiplayer content, given what happened to the other two games they have in development. BDO is barely even a multiplayer game, and if they give AA the same experience under the excuse of "this is what players want" then I'll never touch a Kakao product ever again. Basically just bought the name to abuse the brand awareness

Was always kind of like scared when you saw another player cause it was like "oh will they kill me running this pack?". If they remove it then like whats the point, just boot up death stranding and take a nap. Along with the naval battles, the sieges, like you cant call your game archeage and then just remove everything that made archeage archeage. Just dont even bother. I still have hope, maybe the devs will get someone on the team that will tell them what was good and what wasnt (labor system and alts was buns), but idk its looking pretty grim...

I think that you can still make a very good open world PVP game, without having non-consensual PVP.
I think if you refine Wars so that guilds can fight guilds, alliances can fight alliances, families can fight families, then you can generate a lot of PVP on a smaller scale, but not have to worry about every single person being able to jump you.
If you combine that with sieges (castle, town/city, territory wars) that gives you a lot of meaningful PVP. Couple that with Caravans/Trade Runs as well as Naval Content, I think you can give the PvPers a lot of opportunity to kill other players, while at the same time not having a game where there are wolves hunting sheep, and sheep trying to survive.

This coming from a long time formerly hardcore wow player as well.
But to list top 5 that comes to my mind first:
1: Getting my very own Tradeship; Hauling and doing a high risk high reward delivery to the enemie continent, having tons of randoms wanting to join in for the haul.
2: Being the first to have the off-shore Bungalo and earning big cash from bigger guilds wanting to use my property to safely store their packages at my property.
3: Estabelishing a literall trade-union with the biggest guilds, cross faction after learning the language of the other faction.
4: Somehow become centerpoint in a massive naval fight.
5: The hilarious sailing glitches (spinning and ship) and launching friends across the sea to the other continent. As well as turning you ship into a Submarine and launching yourself into the air One Piece style to escape player-pirates.

Favorite memory -- when I could wander the open world without worry of being attacked for no good reason. I am not in to PVP. I quit playing Archeage I in 2018 because I could not get away from the PVP gamers in open world explorations and exploitation's by folks whose only reason for playing was to kill other players. This sort of attitude on the part of other players totally burned me out on Archeage I. For me, that focus was toxic and did not allow me to enjoy the huge and wonderful open world explorations at all.
I am happy to hear that they decided to remove the pvp focus, and sad to hear that the N. American Servers are going away. I can only hope, at this point in time (april 2024), that my characters will be transferable to Archeage II. This is the only hope I have left in regards to Archeage I.
I understand now that it may not happen for at least a couple of years. Still, I will hope, that Khaleo games will manage to transfer all of my characters from Archeage I to Archeage II.

Im just sick to death of pvp focused mmos trying to cater to pve players. 99% of mmos are mainly pve focused. Also plenty being made. Its like new world, described as a survival sandbox pvp mmorpg that turned into the worst of both worlds. And honestly, im happy its doing terrible. Let it be a lesson to studios to not change their vision half way through because players who have no interest in pvp complained. Bdo has done similar things, and is heading in that direction. I just dont know why games cannot stick with an open world pvp mmo with safe zones and penalties for griefing lower level/geared players. But my opinion on AA2 is that ya this sounds concerning. Mmos focusing on single player activities is so dog shit. Basically putting it simple if AA2 is similar to AA1 but with some new stuff ill play it. The core features of AA should stay. Naval battles, big open world pvp fights, or small ones its a sandbox, moving materials, farming, the justice system, the ability to choose to go pirate or something similar. These things and more are what made AA special. If you take away what make it special you run the risk of just becoming another dog shit mmo that no one will play. But trion loves taking Ls so who knows

    • @ParadoxGamingNetwork
      @ParadoxGamingNetwork  5 місяців тому

So I can tell you this, its the PVP players who make this happen and here's why.
You are level 50 and you come across a level 35 and you kill him for the lolz. That level 35 player lost his progress for the day so he (or she) logs out.
Tomorrow when they log in, they spend 25/30 minutes grinding and then another level 50 comes across and kills them. The person gets frustrated and then logs out.
The 3rd day, the same thing happens, but instead of just logging out they uninstall and go back to a game they enjoy.
Now, some PVPers will laugh and mock them and say "we don't need those players"
Well look at Archeage, earlier this year it got merged down to 1 server and now it is closing.
Companies need customers, so when you treat a paying portion of the playerbase this way and they leave, you either need to kick in enough money to keep the game alive or realize its going to die.

    • @Eso_lags
      @Eso_lags 5 місяців тому

@@ParadoxGamingNetwork ya absolutely i agree with what you're saying. A lot of pvpers are griefers. Personally i find no satisfaction in killing someone who cant fight back, even max level players that dont know what theyre doing. whats the point, unless theres incentive involved and then its a different story for a lot of people. But there are like no games with good risk vs reward pvp these days anyway.
And Hardcore pvp games dont do well in general. But with archeage i think it was more of the god awful choices and screw ups that trion and XL and later gamigo and kakao and whoever else made over the years that killed it. But when it comes to pvp specifically, i just think there is a line that can be maintained.
I actually think the way certain areas would go at war in AA was cool and could be expanded on. But whether its something like that, or some zones being safe zones, while others have pvp with incentives to be there, there are ways to go about it.
Albion is another game that does it decently. Some zones are pve, some zones are pvp where you lose nothing, and other zones are full loot pvp. It may not be the game for everyone, but that concept is solid.
im not saying any mmo should be a full loot or even full pvp game. I honestly think AA did it pretty well, but it certainly could have been improved. Im just saying pvp focused games should keep pvp as a top priority. Wow, eso, gw2, ff14, these games have pvp but its an afterthought.
And im also saying, when you change your vision half way through development you end up with new world. and no one wants that.
new players will always be griefed in mmos. Whether its getting killed by a better player in pvp, or getting flamed in a dungeon in pve because they arent very good. I think games just need to go about handling newer players better. Bdo does a good job with olvia and season servers. Stick a new player on begginer servers for 2 months then release them into the world. But give them the option to go sooner if they want.
But hoping that an mmo gets all of these things right is super wishful thinking. And at the end of the day, no matter what, ill at least try aa2.
Ive heard this from many former AA players over the years and ive always felt the same way, im just waiting for a game to fill the void that AA left. There has been nothing like it since. Sure i could have kept playing it while it was literally slaughtered and revived on repeat. But after the 3rd or 4th fresh start i called it. rip.

WoW - you can now go dungeon running with your NPCs
These are the two biggest MMORPGs on the market and they have both catered to the single player idea. Archeage under XL Games clearly agrees with the trend as they've made this shift. Throne and Liberty did likewise.

@@TheLotroNerd I mean again I'm going to direct you right back to FFXIV and WoW
If "few people" are asking for these types of single player games in the US, explain the success of Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, and then why did the two biggest MMORPGs include huge swaths of single player / solo content?
I think you need to accept that yes players want that single player/solo (or small co-op) but the days of the forced group content are over.
You can disagree, but you ae going to have to give me some solid game examples and not try to use Marketing 101 as an answer since "The customer is always right about what they want to buy" and if the customer is buying it, that is what the customer wants.

@@ParadoxGamingNetwork Both of those games (Elden Ring and Cyberpunk ) are completely different genres, run by two company's that arn't having what in business would be called an identity crisis. They fill a market category as a market niche in the industry. Which gives them a strong brand image. What TRION is known for is not developing games but buying games that are dying and get what the industry calls whales to spend and donate on. What Arch age and BDO are doing is about the equivalent of when company's started to get excited about crypto and came late to the party showing off their own versions of crypto. They are chasing industry fads not because its good for the customer, but because its easier on the organization. Why because its a really easy thing to repeatably push out compared to a full scale MMORPG, that you have to nurture with higher risks for failure. What the customer wants is not what they buy, its what they settle or think they are settling for. The customer may not want something they buy, but because they are desperate for something interesting they settle. Someone can buy a game and regret it or not enjoy it. They still bought the game however it was not what they wanted its what they were told they wanted, and then later found out it wasn't. Some people are conscience of this others are not. Most people have no clue that they are being manipulated by the market to think things are good or bad, one way to do this is to normalize. Asmond actually made a fair point that what makes a good mmorpg is one that has no pay to win features. That is because it requires the game and players to have integrity. Most gamers that play MMORPGS play for respect. However that is not achievable when there is no integrity and someone can just boost to the top with irl cash. The solution to that issue right there is why there is too much risk to build an MMORPG. An Example of another risk for an MMORPG is with New World. The entire game economy collapsed because of several duping currency bugs. The Integrity of the game was exposed and players left, because their chance for gaining fame and respect just got jeopardized. So company's rather than solving the hard issues. Are selling the idea that a singleplayer game is better. because the formula they are using is safer for them. There are less chances for someone to break the game, as everyone is in their own world doing their own things and if they do break the game who really cares, because it doesn't necessarily affect other peoples experiences. In this case easier is not necessarily better for consumers, its just consumers have no other options, or are stuck to believe they have no other options.

So, wall of text is hard to get through but you have some flaws in your facts
"What TRION is known for is not developing games but buying games that are dying and get what the industry calls whales to spend and donate on."
Trion is known for both dveloping games (RIFT, Trove, Defiance, Atlas Reactor) as well as publishing (Archeage and Devillion).
"An Example of another risk for an MMORPG is with New World. The entire game economy collapsed because of several duping currency bugs."
The econonmy of New World collasped in part because of duping bugs, but also because the economy was never realigned after the game design shift.
In an open world, full PVP, fort building survival game, every tree should be harvesteable becuase guilds are going to need a constant supply of wood as the basic material for building walls/palisades for defense. When AGS decided to shift the game, they didn't shift the gathering which in turn was destined to fail the economy.

I have a couple favorite memories from ArcheAge.
I joined the beta and headstart when ArcheAge was released to the west via Trion in 2014.
I jumped between guilds, but I did make a few cool online friends.
When the first whales started leaving the game (which caused difficulty in earning in-game currency to buy real-life subscription months), I decided to leave the game.
ArcheAge was re-released (I think?) around 2020, and I played for a few months.
It was very hardcore because the players that even wanted to play ... were veterans with money ... and they were pushing events and min-maxing their characters.
    I didn't want to keep-up, so I left.
I really loved the sea battles ... where all of you are on a ship, and we have a captain, and someone calls orders, and we all contribute by filling our roles ... on cannons, off cannons, sails, spells, crowd control, etc ... just filling roles and acting as a team.

The company has had to evolve to the new generation.
People have grown up, they have less time to dedicate to the game, especially to big guild activities.
Young players are not the main target group of mmos, never was.
It's more an adult domain. Family, work and other activities are upfront for most of us.
We don't need the struggle of the past when big pvp maps were new, shiny and exciting.
We want to hop in, have fun, do our tasks, mostly undisturbed.
At least that's how I have seen the community evolve over the last decade.
The last mmo that did/does group content right, with a healthy playerbase, overal friendly and supportive, is final fantasy 14.
Single player, action driven combat is a very good approach on modern mmos and is a timeless concept.
What NO player will like, is a rushed release by the company, just to get fast money.
If the delay results in a better gaming experience, it's 100% the right path to take.
