absolutely right on jlattin21, she looks so fragile when she talks of her husband and the life they enjoyed together. Tom did the right thing listening sympathetically to her story. I hope she enjoys the money
Goal in life to find love like that, All these years later she still treasures the things he treasured. In this day and age that is sadly very rare. Great video Tom! Thanks !
cougarbuckeye1 -What a lucky guy to have a wife who loved him so much she never sold his car even though it’s worth a boatload of cash. Quite unbelievable, I bet she never sells it....it will be her heirs who will sell it when she’s gone.
Was lucky enough to hang out with Tom a little bit on the day after this was shot. I can tell you that he was genuinely enthused and touched by this car's story. I hope to see more Barn Find Hunter in the future!
Memories...as I get older memories become more and more important. The memory of something becomes more important than the actual material item the memory is of. Maybe that's why people let cars rot and refuse to sell them. They can't afford to restore them but they wouldn't dare sell it because a memory is priceless.
one of the best things about old cars are the stories... weather you can buy them or just look and listen to the person that has had the car for years.. I'm definitely not a Porsche guy but the story is priceless!! great find !!!
Congratulations, Tom, on telling another wonderful barn find. You are absolutely right on what to do with this car -- clean it, fix the brakes, putt on new tires, engine rebuild if needed, and drive it as was intended!
I was very impressed by this love story and I am happy they shared this beautiful car together. I am seeing this show 4 years after its production and I am still inspired. Tom has an amazing respect for people.
Automotive - and American - history storytelling at its best, and Tom is the perfect person to tell those stories. To those commenters who pick at the production values, sure, this was pre-planned carefully, but that doesn't detract from its value. In fact it makes makes it 13 minutes of something really worth watching. I have to agree with NYC LP Player, I was also having problems with that barn dust. Once I got that out of my eyes, I could see clearly enough to say "thanks" for this video.
I got to meet this guy at cars and coffee in Birmingham! He was in Michigan and was a really nice guy! I also got to see his woodie wagon. It was phenomenal!
Upon entering Nely's home Tom says "nobody has ever done this for us before". That's because likely the first time he and his crew experienced Latin hospitality. I enjoyed her story and thanks.
I have been binge-watching these episodes the last couple of days. Out of a lot of VERY good content on Hagerty channel this series is king - Way to be a perfect gentleman Tom!
the feels. so nice of that lady to share. I think I would do the same thing with it. just new tires, go through the engine, and clean off the dust. I would leave it as it is.
Could not said it any better! I firmly believe this is a gold mine that is not yet discovered... Leave it as is, but along with this video clip, in a museum. So much to learn and love here...
This was truly one of my favorite shows to date I love the ladies story and her love for her husband you could truly tell, Thank you so much for having all these shows it helps me through my days, I now have COPD really bad and cant get around like I used to so I watch all of these shows and I am 58 years old so I have grown up seeing most of the cars you find, I love them all !!!!
OMG!!!! This has too be your best show EVER!!! this has to be a trure story about a car and the life it ment to the owners of a car and what it did for the family.... If i would come across this car i wouldn't have what it takes to even make offer on it because it would be disrespectful too the SWEET AND AWESOME LADY!! This story truly tuch me. THANKS FOR BRINGING IT TO US...Hope your arms ok...LOL
Very true. I can't believe one such a deep story is made, without scripts, millions of dollars scene & decor, millions of dollars actors and crows, singer, cameraman, light etc etc... If you see the humble garage and time of day, you can easily see how short the window of opportunity to create this clip must have been and how instant production is all that great Tom. Marvelous and remarkable story to be only shared more widely.
Lookout for that lawnmower hanging from the ceiling Tom. lol You're already a wounded soldier. What a nice lady! I hope that car sells for a million bucks!!
Amazing find, a touching story and a very lovely lady. I hope it was left the way you found it and I agree with others, a clean up, brakes, tyres and check through the engine/transmission. Enjoy a piece of history for what it is & the stories & memories make it priceless.
What a great video. I have to admit that I teared up a bit. I would do just as Tom said and enjoy the car as it is. My wife and I watch videos like these all of the time and she tells me that if anything would happen to me she couldn't get rid of our 1972 Fiat 500L even though it requires constant attention.
Terrific video as always Tom! I always look forward to seeing your next find! While the Porsche Speedster is not my favorite (I'm drawn to the 70's era 911's) it is amazing to see an original tucked away in someone's garage or barn like this. Keep up the terrific vidoes. Your videos are some of the best on the net! Oh, and hope your arm heals quickly!
Nice job by Hagerty. This is a great series and Tom's easygoing gentlemanly demeanor and obvious passion make it a pleasure to watch. Oh yeah, and he knows his cars too. Thanks, I'm subscribing.
i would do exactly the same man. just clean it and drive it. there are so many overrestored cars out there, i love the patina this speedster has. i subbed to your channel, that was an awesome video
I've seen most of your shows here on UA-cam I'm addicted every Saturday and Sunday I kick back after breakfast and watch two of your shows for the past couple of weeks I've been putting this one off just because the thumbnail show the Porsche but I think this is one of your best ones thanks for sharing great story
I spent my childhood in the tiny backseat of one three years newer than this. Great memories. I learned to shift gears sitting on a folded up coat on top of the emergency brake, being allowed to work the shifter while my stepfather worked the clutch.
1970 I bought a orig. owner factory bought speedster. W/ 2 hard tops.1 factory still in the Porsche box.For $500.00. Drove it home. Sold the Glasspar h/t that night for $500.00. Owned alot of 356's- incl.7 speedsters. Those were the days.
I'm glad to see that this piece of her life story is saved for posterity. Cars are cool and this one is pretty awesome, but the stories and memories shared by those who have been around them are just as cool.
Lovely story and lady! Her memories are the real treasure of this video. About the Speedster, it is a real gem, but I would only call it "untouched" if it was still in its original factory paintwork. Thanks for sharing!
This is a truly great show and an upclose look at the perfect approach to engaging owners of classic vehicles. We can all learn from Tom's example here.
I say good for him and his right gut feeling to fall in love, on the first sight. These stories are fairytale quality and really rear to see in true life, especially in this age and time.Good to know "True love" still exists.
I love these episodes! Please let me give you a little bit of advice, use a compressor on the final mix of the audio or turn the music interludes down around 10db. Thanks!!
Amazing story and amazing car. I would do the same as Tom, and just clean it up, rebuild the motor, slap on some nice breaks and tires and have a blast!
wow .......how sad it brought a tear to my eye....her life was her husband and that car ...and now all she had was a pen that she kept and the car .....and all the history of her life .......so sad
@@nickbonzer I would say the opposite. How wonderful that she found so much love and to have so many memories. Not everyone gets that in life, she was lucky.
I so enjoy your You Tube channel. Each barn find introduces not only an interesting car, but an equally interesting person/car owner. You have a wonderful way of breaking down walls & immediately...at least on the recordings it appears immediate... 'friend' of the owner. Great stories of really neat cars. Ah, the might have beens! As a very young man in the Army I was stationed in Connecticut. I stopped to admire a used ('preowned' wasn't coined yet!) Mercedes Gull Wing back in...maybe 1959 or 1960. It was sitting on a used car lot in Milford on the Boston Post Road. Of course I passed on it as I thought the price was too high. I don't remember the price, but it was reasonable for what it was. Man, that was a long time ago. Nice memories from a simpler time. Thank you for posting this channel. ~ Richard from Cut and Shoot, Texas
Jerry Seinfeld is the richest comedian in the world, being worth almost a billion dollars as things currently stand. In 2018, Jerry Seinfeld's net worth is estimated to be $950 million. $500k is pocket change to him. He makes that in a week on interest.
All I can say, Jay Leno could have easily paid more than a million for this car, if he had seen the clip, before hand but then and more importantly, this car should be the property of a museum, possibly owned by Porsche, unaltered, whatsoever, with a continuous running video clip of this YT presentation, at the site, before the viewers can see the car, in that exhibition. This thing is priceless, only if the right people would know about its existence.

I see it sold for $341k.
So, just maybe, Jerry did overpay for his '58.
or...maybe she needed the money and couldve gotten another 200k easily if she'd sent it to a high-end car auction
