The gameplay reveal, the character reveal and the Q&A all cemented my intense drive to buy Baldur's Gate 3. Out of the two, one is a love letter to it's fans and the other a glorified fantasy dating Sim, or at least wants to be. They took the Role out of Role play and poured water on the anticipation that's been burning inside me for 10 years. Thanks, I hate it.

I think the elephant in the room is that it has the same problem as a lot of media today, especially in the US. When you take a piece of media and fill it with Modern day tropes, the backlash is in-coming. And when you have the game director Corinne Busche saying "that the studio designed the game with inclusivity in mind" people automatically checked out.

@@capt_c2725 Inclusivity is fine! So long as it’s all-inclusive. Accessibility is fine too (I won’t turn on the no death option but it won’t affect me if someone else did). But inclusion and accessibility should never ever be more important than the media itself.
If said media is only partly inclusive and accessible to players of all stripes and skill levels, but the media is crap, then what’s the point?

The only thing I'm bummed about is losing the 4th party member. It's part of the holy trinity of features that separated it from Mass Effect, and even the best version of the game will be lesser for it. It's not even a tactical gameplay issue. Experiencing the story with a third companion brings another dimension to the story as that character adds their dialogue and perspective to the events. It makes for more of a found family dynamic rather than the me-and-my-two-friends feel of Mass Effect.

Nothing to talk about. You have 3 selectable abilities but you have other buttons baking in abilities in the previous games. @@ziadbaaklini8761That doesn’t really change anything though, especially when not everyone focused on those abilities to begin with in past games.
As a warrior I never utilised the parry or dodge abilities in Inquisition because I never needed them, so what do I gain by having them be standard fare this time around?
Infinitely so for Mages. Why do I care to have mage bolt or mage sphere when I never used them in the past? Barrier being a parry ability also sounds lame and is just emphasising how useless the party will be as it only relates to the pc now.
Gone are the mages that can have sleep, paralysis, walking bomb, rift/force mage abilities, horror, etc, etc.
We’ve seen this combat before in Andromeda, and that game had no strategy to it at all. It was just soak your 3 abilities over and over again.
This is just restricting and taking away options and that’s NEVER good game design. Gone are support focused builds, gone are relying on a party and managing party control, gone is everything but dps focused damage builds which is boring.
Every class will probably play the same with an emphasis on parry and dodge which sounds awful, who the hell wants to play a mage that has to parry and dodge all the time?

I do have to say that the way we are given information on this game has been and still is abhorrent.
First we get a a trailer showing us that the writing and art direction took a big turn for worse.
Then we get a gameplay showing the least appealing part of the game which, even setting aside the combat (looking mediocre among its action peers), highlighted problems with visual design and writing. It irks me that they thought this was worth showing. I fear this being their best.
Then we get information from game journalists with extremely limited visual material. The same journalists who are hardly holding any authority anymore. They really should have taken a page from BG3 or even Warframe handbook and just shown us the WiP elements in a raw form...unless the game is in worse state than we expect it to be. An honest presentation is 10x better than a curated one unless you are 100% sure you are holding a gem.
Finally my biggest gripe. To tell us what role Solas will hold in this game was a humongous mistake. Honestly just as big as telling us who our companions are. It murdered all the initial mystery. Worse even it gave those of us already disappointed more fodder. As I played DAI I knew not who would join me so every last companion was a surprise. I may have hated some of them but still. The reveal was my own. Here we were given a certain idea of them on a platter full of shit. Now those like me will have hard time detaching ourselves from that god forsaken trailer.
There is a lot more I found disconcerting but I would have to go into detail. People say it was just a 20min gameplay. I say it showed way more than one might presume and they really wanted to show.

Now the ranting comment. It honestly seems like the people at Bioware making DA:TV don't respect the old DA games, the people that made them or their fans. DA *WAS* a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2/Throne of Bhaal which is also one of the *highest rated video games of all time,* just like BG3 and for very good reason. It was incredible. For the budget it had it was nothing short of miraculous (the original BG series) and especially for the time it came out. Things were very different back then. The target audience read. A lot. A 500-1000 page book was normal for me and 285-400 page novels were lite reading at the time...which is a big reason BG 1-2/ToB don't translate well to customers today. After BG 2 we had a *HUGE* CRPG drought. Everything was action, action, and more action. Some of the games were great, but it was frustrating. The games that did come out in the same genre from 2003 on were typically broken as heck leading most people to give them a pass...
Then DA finally came out and yikes was it great. It was BG 1 and 2, but everyone had a voice. Like _"Throne of Bhaal"_ it was a bit more mature and the writing was sooooo good compared to everything that was released post Planescape: Torment. Yeah yeah, Steamworks of blah blah Magicka looked really fun but I couldn't get it to work back then so I missed the writing (though many of the people were the same from Torment)...but to get the writing, branching dialogue trees with consequences to our actions again in what was at the time a modern format, it was great.
Say what you like about DA2 but the writing was still exceptional and the NPC's were pretty darn good as well. Same with DAI. Yes it went deep into the *_"Hey, being queer is great isn't it?"_* to try to pull in more left leaning women, which it did, but like BG3 it respected everyone. Though it pushed the gay thing like a bugger, it also gave the *_"Hey, being straight is pretty great..."_* vibes as well. It didn't take away from previous fans, it tried to add to it. That's *AWESOME.* Inclusion via inclusion works better than inclusion via exclusion. Who'd have thought? Now in Veilguard it is obvious that is not the case. DAI tried to give ARPG players a way to speed things along while giving more tactical players the ability to plan things out. It tried to appeal to both, which again, DA:TV is simply not doing.
The whole _"Dragonage combat has been different every game"_ comments are a sop out. It switched to the action themed combat bc they did not have time to make a real DA:O sequel, and again, they tried to switch it back without losing the people who preferred that type of combat in Inquisition. In Veilguard they did not try at all. They didn't even go Witcher 3 or Odyssey...they went straight up action beat 'em up. Probably the least popular style of combat for what used to be a tactical CRPG they could possibly pick. Mages get 3 abilities/spells? WTF is that idiocy? By the end of a game we want to be Elminster, Merlin or fricken Gandolf. Not an arcade Sorcerer from a fricken Arcade machine Golden Axe nonsense game. That was great in 1990, or in a mobile game you play an hour a day on breaks. It also shows they don't respect what came before at all.
This should have been a small spinoff or a new ip entirely. The same f'ing thing happened in Andromeda with the SAM ability switching shit as opposed to just letting you have 5 or 6 abilities making me think that this may be a limitation of the *Frostbite* engine that they never really solved. Except they did. In DA:I. But just like you can't import character details because _"It has been a long time."_ ?!? What the hell does that even mean? I can import models and code from Unreal 3 into 5 with a few hours of tweaking. Frostbite has changed a lot less than Unreal so I'm pretty bloody sure it could have been done by a team of 5 or 6 people in a week. But they did not think it was important enough to have carry over so they *CHOSE* not to.
I do think they care about this game, but again, I do not think they respect what came before it. Just like they don't respect the millions of guys who would prefer to have an attractive chick to romance. They are letting you adjust NPC appearances which is awesome...except not your companions. You know, the ones you would actually romance...what the actual hell? I honestly don't know who this game is for. Most people who enjoy button mashers are not doing it for the story. Most people who play for the story don't enjoy button mashing. Ugh. The whole things a mess. One thing I do know is they certainly aren't making this game for me. That's OK, but of course it is disappointing considering I have been a fan since the late '90s and have been playing CRPG's since the original Pool of Radiance came out.
What really gets me is when people say _"Pft, go touch grass boomer, it's a game..."_ If someone took GTA and made it into a point and click Sims game the outrage would be exactly the same but on a much larger level. When people overhaul things you used to love because they think they can do it better you end up with..._"The Acolyte."_ Again, if they went with a _"Witcher 3"_ combat system that somehow worked in mages I don't think people would have been mad. Heck, they could have gone full Dark Souls, as long as the companions were integrated well (which they aren't...1/10th the damage the PC does; that's where the God of War comparison does apply) I doubt people would have flipped their lid. Of course the atmosphere would have needed to be right and here we go again; The romance options need to contain a couple of very attractive options. Options that you would fantasize about; for both sexes. Or all 37 (Idk how many there are so I'll go with 37); that means things like feminine faces and _gasp_ decent size boobs with a small waist. Those women are real, I've been with a *LOT* of them. 34/Large C (natural)/22-24/36 with a pretty face is not some mystical unicorn. I see them every day at the gym and go out with 1 or 2 a month. Lol, and yes, I touch grass too. I actually need to mow my lawn come to think of it, but I'll probably do that after I get back from the beach tomorrow.
It may seem outrageous, but this overt push towards non-attractive women is infuriating. Even that gay artist from Ubisoft said it was insane and that there were actual mandates that they had to make women either unattractive or androgynous. Ei. _eh_ looking or someone that a person born male could look like without surgeries to slim their waist and such. Or they can be overweight. Or they can be handicapped. Well what do you know, Bioware gave us a Dwarf whose put on 55lbs while somehow getting smaller boobs, a women with a prosthetic leg and a jawline like a boxer and a horned guy. Speaking of, when you look at the sketches for the Quinari chickman she is hot. I mean yikes. her body is slammin, her hair is beautiful, and she is about 50lbs of muscle lighter though still in great shape. Now? She's a dude. Now that is unachievable for anyone born female without massive amounts of drugs. I'm talking testosterone, Trenbalone, Clen, Deca...I can bench around 300lbs, deadlift about 450lbs, squat around 320'ish etc...I weigh around 190lbs and am just under 5'11" barefoot. She makes me look tiny. I don't see *ANY* women outside of shows who look like that. Because they can't. I have seen guys who identify as women look like that though. Rare, but...twice irl I guess. Not someone I want to romance in a game. if there were a couple of other _"Morrigan"_ -like options it would not matter. There are not, so it does. It wouldn't fix the combat, but it would fix that part of the game, which in DA and Mass Effect is a big part of the game.
I really do hope it turns out well and people enjoy it. I really hope I'm wrong and the combat itself makes it worth playing as i just don't see the companions or story being on par with the media they have put out before, meaning the biggest selling point of the game and the 3 minor but still important ones just aren't there _for people like me._ And yeah, that kinda sucks, but at the same time, I don't want people who play for other reasons or are into other things to be _let down_ as well.

Looking at this from a game design perspective, I notice that it is harder for my eyes to flick to the bottom of the screen or the top. But my eyes flick way faster to the corners of the screen when I need to look at ammo or health. I just think that it was a bad idea to put the abilities AND AMMO on the bottom center of the screen. Usually the middle has an ultimate ability or an xp bar that I can see from my peripheral vision without actually looking at it. But it’s just super distracting to look down when I can’t focus on the middle of the screen. It’s hard to notice the precise timing because we’re talking about milliseconds here but still. Not to mention the only reason we have only 3 abilities is so the 4th slot doesn’t cover the screen which is a pretty lazy excuse to have it all in the middle

The gameplay reveal trailer reminded me a lot of Inquisition, especially with the action combat, enemy design and the dialogue wheel (although I have to say that especially the latter reminded me a bit too much of Mass Effect Andromeda as well and NOT in a good way, where you ended up with not really anything important to say or to decide). The biggest problems I have with the reveal were actually 2 things that really grated me: First - like you said yourself - only having 3 skills. In Mass Effect, which is an action cover shooter, it might not be a problem so much, but in an Fantasy RPG based on D&D and old classic Baldurs Gate, which DA is, with Mage as one of the Main classes, - this feels dumbing down ressouce management, tactical thinking and in the end character development. The other problem for me personally is the odd writing and approach to story telling. Well, the sky opens up, everything crumbles around the characters. The world literally goes down the drain, and our party banters and bickers like they are going on a camping field trip or a class trip in Highschool. Nothing too dramatic, just be casual and fun with quips and banter like in a Marvel movie. Rule of cool, you know. I felt like a boomer watching all those one liners unfold. Maybe it is because I don*t use social media, but man, it felt so grating listening to those short one liners. Which was really odd, because Varric and Solas spoke about really important things - which you almost can*t hear in the trailer because you have to foght random demons after coming up with this childish idea of - yeah, let us stop an elven god with destroying statues. Woohee! Not my kind of DA sadly, too much of Mass Effect Andromeda Energy there for me. And that game was absolutely not to my taste...

The thing that made me frustrated about DAtV is the art style, and every new image i see confirms that. Everything else could end up being great, even when there seems to be a downgrade in many aspects in terms of mechanics. But I will always know that some marketing executive decided that making the characters of a dark fantasy rpg look cartoony will grant them good sells, ruining the seriousnes and immersion of a franchise that a lot of us supported since the begining, and I dont want that that vision of the industry to be successfull.

Honestly, I just wish the environments are varied in the game, not like in Dragon Age 2, even though DA2 was well put together storywise, but the locations were mostly the same.
I think there needs to be a balance... DA2 was gritty, Inquisition not so much, but the locations were detailed and beautiful.

Cassandra was to harsh in tone. Even when she was supposed to be sweet, she sounded angry. Sara came in a close second but still fell short. Imo DA2 had mostly great companions as did Origins, but Inquisition fell way short. The open world caused a loss of the sense of urgency that aworld ending event should bring.

As someone who enjoyed all the Dragon Age games. Im going to say this, Dragon Age Origin was the only good game in the series. The others were fun, they had good parts, but they were games for people who enjoyed Bioware period, Not video games as a whole. (think more casual) These fans dropped DA with DA2 and never looked back. Now they got re-exposed and I think a lot of them are saying "What the hell happened to Dragon Age? This doesnt look like DAO" and are giving harsh reviews.
Ive always felt Dragon Age has been going the wrong direction, they should have doubled down on what made Origins great, instead of trying to chase Mass Effect. BioWare isn't the RPG powerhouse it once was, and it's been ten years since Dragon Age: Inquisition came out, which was a bit of a letdown. It wasn't the worst, but it didn't hit the mark of greatness either.

I think most of the backlash is from people who take gaming WAY too seriously, feel entitled to what THEY want however THEY want it, have trauma around authority figures doing things that aren't in their best interests (which they inappropriately project onto gaming devs and other artists - see the backlash against GRRM for not releasing HIS books on OTHER PEOPLE'S timelines, this attitude ties into entitled gamer/ art consumer culture), and are generally stuck in negative internet thought-loops (doomscrolling) because they don't produce anything that is truly meaningful themselves (basement dwelling types) and thus have nothing better to do.

Won’t pre-order but will be watching for this one. BioWare hasn’t disappointed me yet on a big level besides MA andromeda and the Me trilogy ending going for shock over foreshadowing, which made it fall flat.
I like streamlined story as DAI I felt like I wasted too much time.
I think one thing I’d like to see in the advertising is a single, complete story scene that can show they can write good drama.
The Solas scene was only partially convincing as I’ve never been fully sold on Solas and Varric being close friends. Their banter in Inquisition didn’t feel like it conveyed that. Maybe my memory is faulty. The music, camera also was more on Rook doing his own work which we don’t know much about his story investment yet beyond being a generally helpful fellow.

They should evolve the combat, not devolve it.
Party based combat isn’t something that gets aged out due to time.
Taking away core features from last games and replacing them with nothing isn’t good game design, and it certainly isn’t an evolvement at all.
Especially when from what we’ve seen the new combat is already getting outclassed by other games anyway.
Take Final Fantasy 7 rebirth. It’s already outclassing Veilguard. It offers FULL party control, a crazy variety of builds, insane cross character synergies, the ability to pause and issue commands, ALL while having fun action focused combat with all the mechanics that come with it.
Veilguard a combat already looks worse than FF7 rebirth. Not to even mention other action based games such as Elden Ring, Jedi Survivor, etc.
The new combat doesn’t do anything better than those action games, and unlike past Dragon age games Veilguard doesn’t offer the unique party based combat that prior da games did to set them apart.

I actually waited about a week to like/dislike on the gameplay reveal trailer. I wanted to make sure I'd simmered down, thought on it and made sure I clicked fairly. In end I did *dislike* it, regardless of being 'pleasantly surprised' by it.
    Here's why *I* disliked it.
Trust. I have zero trust. The graphics are pretty, but its' clear that they haven't listened to ANY actual repeat customers from Origins. They've made it abundantly clear that they neither care about or even *want* Origins fans to buy or play their games.
This is NOT a tactical CRPG. It's NOT a dark fantasy. It's NOT even a *sequel* to DA:O - It's a spin off in the Dragon Age world.
I don't like the constant retconning, gaslighting and lies from this studio. I'm tired of swallowing cognitive dissonance and excusing abuse from them for the sake of a story. The Pathfinder games are BRILLIANT examples of a faithful sequel. The BG games are also great examples - Yes, even BG3 - The gameplay styles changed but the feel and the atmosphere has remained faithful. Hells even the Pillars of Eternity sequel was more faithful than the DA installments.
This is just too far from the game that I knew and loved in this franchise. I followed the series for a DA:O experience. I now get that more faithfully from the games I mentioned above, from The Witcher games, from the Divinity series... Hells, even Technomancer is closer to DA:O than DA:V is, and it's an action RPG!!
Finally, FINALLY after almost a decade and a half, I've finally gotten the hint. Bioware doesn't want me, their "community panel" doesn't want me, and their investors don't want me.
    So I don't want them.

Dragon Age Inquisition was a game with terrifying mechanics regarding looting and a completely flat and emotionless storyline, in my personal opinion, the only good thing was the strategic combat system at times. It's very dangerous to make games right now, because there's a trend of criticizing everything and expecting to be deep as Baldur's Gate. So if Bioware wants to make a fantasy RPG, it's better to target adult audience and not teenagers as we seen in the preview. The game looks like identical to a dozens of titles already seen... And I would be very sad if they get a backfire, found themselves without resources to make the new ME.

If the next Mass Effect is revealed to be a multiplayer co-op first person shooter with building mechanics, you would say that's not Mass Effect. What they've shown so far is not Dragon Age... That's my first problem with it...
My second problem is that the story they showed is safe and predictable: the protagonist is again marked accidentally by Solas' power, how? By disrupting a ritual with basic sabotage (4 basic attacks on wood and 2 people pushing a pillar)... The group find Solas after 10 years, how? They get a detective that finds and USE the personal Elluvian of the most powerful mage in the world that doesn't want to be found, how convenient... He's not tearing down the veil yet, he's just moving around 2 of the 7 Evanuris, isn't that convenient? Now the world has to deal with only 2 of them. Maybe at the end we'll free Solas Silverhand because the rest of the Evanuris will get free, maybe we'll leave him trapped because if we dealt with 2 we can deal with the rest... Oh, and Varric will die, so that there's more conflict between Rook and Solas plus Rook has to be propelled to the leadership position by Varric saying "take care of the team for me"...
My third problem is no save import and no DA Keep. That means only one thing: either the tarot section at the beginning is incredibly long (longer than ME Genesis) or what's more likely is that this game will ignore a large amount of consecuences from previous games, so the world is less reactive and has less replayability. Because it's cheaper that way...
And all that made worse by the blatant downgrades from previous games that surely you don't need me to enumerate...

Sadly people will compare both games, What won my love in BG3 was the amazing stories and involvement you as the player with companions and freedom to be anything in the game. My love to DAO was mostly story, companion development and building relationships, lore etc. I relived that with BG3. I am worried that it will feel like Inquisitor’s so so dialogue/connection with companions. I enjoyed that game. Don’t get me wrong but it felt way short then Origins.

I was going to type a novel. Bioware history, reasons for my issues, examples of regression etc. but I'll just list the reasons I am not excited for DA:TV anymore.
    1. The combat looks more like superhero combat in a best case scenario and a mobile game in the worst case.
    2. All the women look androgynous so there goes romancing any of them. It's not just that they are unattractive to me, but they look like guys.
    3. We can't control squad mates save powers/abilities which leads to...
    4. We only have 4 powers/abilities to choose from...at higher levels? Wtf? Sure makes being a mage fun. _"You can have a spellbook...with 3 spells. This is a hardcore DragonAge RPG baby, dig in!"_
    5. They (Bioware, EA, whoever was making decisions) did not listen to the majority of fans at all. It's like they did the exact opposite of what most fans wanted. Fans asked for a game more like Origins. They went the Spider-Man Remastered without webs route. Fans asked for dark and gritty, they went for shiny and cartoonish. Fans asked for deeper RPG systems, they streamlined it to the point where this does not seem like an RPG at all anymore. Fans asked for beautiful people after the Andromeda _"Jayde Rossi/Fem Ryder"_ debacle. They went with smaller boobs and squarer jaw lines...What the heck?
This is like doing market research about an area before opening a restaurant. The people in a 10 mile radius say that the closest Italian joint is 50 miles away but there are 10 burger chains within 5 miles. You then decide to open another franchised McDonald's over an Olive Garden and sit there astounded that people aren't throwing you high fives and praise for your decision.
I don't even think that this is going to be a bad game, I just think it is going to be a bad DragonAge game. I think the audience they are catering to is a lot smaller than they think it is and with a $250M or so budget before marketing along with 10 years of total dev time, reaching the 13M or so units EA is going to demand to consider the game a success is essentially impossible.
Shoot, i said I was going to be quick so I'll just wrap with the closing statement: It looks like EA Motive will most likely be making the next Mass Effect along with the 50 or so tech people that are retained from Bioware. Techies and 3D artists, everyone else will be out. No amount of queerosexual gendermancy spellcasting can save them at this point, and all they had to do was listen to their darn fans.

The tone of the reveal was odd, mostly because such a peppy trailer is usually served up later in the marketing. However, the gameplay and subsequent Q&As and articles have been top notch. It's looking good. To suggest there are no strategic elements is simply not paying attention to the ability skill wheel. Most people either barely or didn't use the tactical view in Inquisition and that was 10 years ago. I don't understand why people are worried about story and companions when the last 3 games were excellent. Seems like needless concern. It's looking like a GOTY contender to me at this point.

Yep, I agree. DA:O is my favourite story of the series (and I loved the different origins). DA:I is my favourite gameplay of the series (though I loathed the fetch quests and only did what I needed for the points to progress the main plot). DA2 I enjoyed, and that was the game that got me into Mass Effect as I heard that the dialogue wheel they were introducing was taken from their ME2 game, so I bought that to try it out , and in the end played and loved ME and ME2 before playing DA2.
For me the Mass Effect style combat and only having two of the companions in the party doesn't worry me at all, it works fine in Mass Effect and so I expect it to work here too. I don't like the changes to the demons we've seen or the pictures that I've seen of the darkspawn, but it characters and what we've seen of possible protagonists we can create I think look fine. Different to what we had in DA:0, but then what we had in DA2 and in DA:I was also a change in art style. So, it comes down to the lore and story.
I expect to at least enjoy the game, even if I don't love it as much as Origins or Inquisition. And who knows, maybe I'll be surprised and enjoy it more than I think.

@Kala Elizabeth Hey I guess your original comment got removed before I got to post my reply so I’ll put it here
I was in agreement with you that to draw a fair overall consensus you have to pull all the information from every source instead of just one source like UA-cam and calling it a day.
Where I began to disagree with your statement is that there is some insidious large group of people with evil intent out there trying to hate bomb.
Unfortunately this comes across as a conclusion based on emotion rather than something that we can actually ever factually verify. It would be near impossible, if not, completely impossible to ever fully verify a claim like that.
I believe the reality is that if something is being overwhelming disliked or liked it’s based simply on people liking it or not instead of it being some deeper meaning.
I wish we could go back to a time where we could all just agree to disagree on things without having to feel like we are constantly dying on hills

I feel very indifferent. I use to be a big Bioware fan. Bought DragonAge Origins when it came out. That was a long time ago. Then bought BG1 and 2 and the ME games. I was a member of the Bioware Social Network during the Bioware controversies where Gaider sometimes moderated the forum and got into heated arguments with the fans. Casey Hudson mistakes with ME3 and Dr M deciding to do the Extended Cut when the fans complained all of that.
EA is a studio killer and doesn't treat the non sports fans well and the non FIFA/Madden games well.
Yes the game is going to be compared to BG3 fairly or not and more likely than not found wanting.

The enemy AI looked terrible, it was flashy but slow paced, only 3 action buttons(and yes you can swap but they had that in Andromeda and its clunky enough that it never got used), while there was a dodge mechanic it did not seem particularly fine tuned like in a proper action rpg. I'm all for a action rpg style for DA4, but I want at least dragons dogma level of combat, and it seems to be falling short of that by a lot. I'm keeping an open mind because it was level 1 etc, but I'm not impressed. The leveling system seems pretty bad ass though, but that wont carry bad game play.

The gameplay looks decent enough, the character creator 'sounds' exciting to me... but I just cant get over the weird zany cartoony look. Last time I played Dragon Age, they felt like real people. They had pores, small facial scars, they moved like real people(for the most part). Solas now has lost the little scar above his right eyebrow. Now hes just smooth and looks like a cheap disney villain. Facial expressions are too over exaggerated, adding to that cartoony feel. Varric looks comical. Harding has been 'sultry-fied' for the boys.. losing out on what made her a normal looking woman. The veil demons look stupid like app quality.. but the monsters from earlier that run past the screen look more interesting. its a 50/50 for me. I'm alil bitter because I waited so long. I will probably buy it, but certainly not straight away... and i'll be hoping random fans will MOD it so they can make it look more like Dragon Age. The Trespasser DLC for Dragon Age : Inquisition. The last dlc was not open world and it was very enjoyable... because they could craft scenes really well, thus making the experiance really something special. I will miss the open world aspect... I enjoyed wandering for hours in some maps... i felt like i could feel the warmth of its deserts and smell the fresh pine of its forests.. and i do wonder how much shorter THIS game will be, since I recalled spending over 80 hours on DA3... I hope it wont feel like a game that can be finished in 3 days. Cause spending over $100 on that (aussie prices) will feel like a rip off.

Of course as someone who started playing Origins in middle school I'm worried about the story the most, but also kinda bummed by the companion situation. I wish we could keep three party members like in the other games since now it will feel like most set ups will have to be one of each class instead of having the ability to have an extra of whatever class you want in the extra slot (or at least in the way I play).
Also the inability to switch between party members is going to be something to get used to. If you don't like playing as your Rook 30+ hours into the game or need a break from playing the same class for extended periods of time, it looks like you're out of luck. I still feel a little bit awkward about the general vibe, but to me the biggest problem is about the story. I cannot image they sitting on a couch and waiting for the end of the world. My last hope is on a plot twist during this game, otherwise will be a massive letdown....
Alas, I am worried because Dragon Age has a story about forgetting their main character... But, in DA2 we abandon the hero of ferelden because it's a different story and in DA:I we abandon Hawke because of narrative gameplay...but here, I cannot see why the Inquisitor wouldn't be involved in this story. I keep thinking about the ability wheel. I do see everyone’s concerns about it being boring/repetitive. If we’re comparing apples to oranges, Shepard had way more than three abilities on hand.
Personally? I’m hoping that the three abilities in the wheel can be different from the three that would be button mapped/hotkeyed.
I’m also hoping they resurrect something that they did in every other Dragon Age game: hold down R2 (Yup! PlayStation user. Right here. 😜) to select a second set of abilities to use.
I personally don’t have BioWare’s ear, but I would definitely suggest this to them if I did. Having 9, or even 6 abilities on hand would be better than just 3.

BG3 is a really hard act to follow! The bar for RPGs has been raised which is a great thing. I think people would be more optimistic about veilgurard if it came out before BG3 because now there is this concern that it won't be as good in comparison. And naturally people will compare. I was skeptical at first, but the more I have read about the game and seen media from it the more I have become excited to play the game. CC and the companions in particular seem like they will be really really fun. I really hope that combat is satisfying but with games like Dragon Age & BG3, the heart and soul of the game comes from the narrative and the characters you interact with. Not an excuse to not have a good combat system, but I'm really happy to hear that narrative is the major focus for the DATV team since I think that will make or break the game.

I think BG3 was great, but not anywhere near as crazy as what people say it is. BG3 is its own entity, and games should seek their own soul instead of chasing the shadow of other games. We will see how veilguard pans out.

@@sagearmaggedon7307I mean BG3 did what it set out to do which is make you feel like your playing tabletop game in a video game. The choice and consequence may be the best that has ever been in an rpg and yes we should compare Veilguard to BG3 cuz they are the same genre and have practically all the same expectations that gamers that love rpgs want. Characters, story, choices that matter, tactical combat. BG3 crushed all those and Veilguard looks very much like it won’t deliver on any of those cuz Larian cares about their staff and fans and quality. Bioware/EA is on the opposite side of that spectrum.

@@swoopingisbad20 People are doing themselves a disservice if they do not seek to see the value in the things around them. I am often stated to have “low standards because I can play BG3, then go and play Starfield, and then play Cyberpunk, but my training has allowed me to see value where others do not. I highly doubt Veilguard will even come close to BG3 when it comes to rpg mechanics. But then there is the potential for the characters, the lore, the story, character creation is already superior if what has been stated about it is true. It has different combat that is more real time based, and that should give Veilguard individual value. The presentation already surpasses BG3. Not to mention Bioware has a knack for teasing fans that are really invested in the lore, which is why there are so many theory videos for Dragon Age and Mass effect.
Maybe Veilguard wont have the biceps that BG3 has, but it could have the quads. Lack of contentment on the peoples part is going to drive entertainment right off a cliff, as pleasing people becomes inevitably harder, as our attention spans dwindle and we become further overstimulated. If we keep going this direction, a peak valley effect will be the inevitable outcome, until people learn contentment again.

@@sagearmaggedon7307 I agree that games should seek their own soul which is what I was expressing my hopes for in my comment. If veilguard focuses on it's storytelling like the devs say that they are then I have high hopes that the game will be great and have an identity all its own. Regardless of individual options on BG3, it has heavily impacted its genre, RPGs, which veilguard is in so naturally people will compare. I just hope that people review veilguard as its own game, give it a fair chance, and not expect it to be just like BG3. Because it isn't! And it shouldn't be!

@@Lavendarrr Well said. BG3s impact is moreso tied to the current state of the rpg audience. For many people, BG3 represents what they want to see in rpgs. But if the people change, if the audience learns to appreciate the value these games bring, than we will realize that these games have aspects of uniqueness that other titles just cannot possess. By not comparing rpgs unreasonably, other rpgs will get their fair shake, and BG3 will never lose its seat to future rpgs, because it is a unique and irreplaceable game.

Its generic action combat, we can't control the party to try multiple classes in one play through, we have 3 abilities only to use meaning combat will be boring slashing with the occasional ability rather than Dragon Age's history of your mc pulling off half a dozen of unique abilities, calling that ability wheel a pause feels insulting to the intelligence of former fans like we can't recognize them trying to just say "see we have 'tactics', don't complain", lastly there is ZERO faith in the current writers. Also I'll be furious if they ditch dragon age keep

But at the end of the day one has to play it to really see what this is. Well, I mean, it's the equivalent of Japanese Dwarves randomly showing up in Tolkien's LoTR. Lore-wise it makes zero sense for ethnically Black/African Elves and Japanese Elves like Davrin and Bellara to exist in the in-lore universe of Thedas/DA, but I'm sure (or at least hopefully) they'll explain it in game because those two break continuity without explanation.

@DomanieJ Why do Black or Asian Elves need a "Fantastic Backstory about their history" but White ones don't? Are the magical nonexistent beings known as elves only white? It's a magic world but for whatever reason Black/Asian elves have to have some established lore in order to exist. In that case give me lore as to why there are Asian people at all since there is no Asia. Mexicans? Nope can't exist in this fantasy world without Fantasy Mexico. Why are the Quanri dark skinned? Why are Elves White, how can humans be so varied? Apparently we need lore for all these things because they are too farfetched but demons, dragons, gods, and monsters are okay.
