Bea and Ben are really good romcom characters. Bea is endearing because she tries to show a brave front, but admits that she is lost and a mess. Ben tries to present as being well put together, but is a mess also. When these kindred spirits look into each other’s eyes it is effervescent. When they act hurtful towards each other it is because they both opened up to the other and then felt dismissed. Amidst the comedy, there is something bittersweet that speaks to my heart directly…
It’s sooooooooo fun, I’m going to rewatch it multiple times while it’s still in the cinema, I’m here for the rom com revival! 🥰 (No more direct-to-streaming rom coms with their shoestring budgets, I don’t want to look at them any longer! 😝)

Oh yeah, and I was fixating on this film for MONTHS before it was released, even to the point of getting on the junket so I was hoping it would live up to what I wanted from it AND IT ABSOLUTELY DID! 🥳
I share your happiness about this film! As well as for its success so far. Last time I checked, it has made $40 million worldwide on a $25 million budget. And it is has been number three just below “Wonka” and “Migration” for daily box office take the last couple of days-above “Aquaman 2” and “The Color Purple”. Oh, and I love what looks like an intentional Easter egg honoring director Will Gluck’s 2010 classic “Easy A”. Will said in an interview it is NOT the use of another Natasha Bedingfield song (“Pocket Full of Sunshine” in “Easy A”, “Unwritten” this time). But when Ben puts on an “Ojai” T-shirt-Ojai, California being the setting for “Easy A”!!!

The dialogue in this movie was god awful
