I paid for this luggage and am not sponsored by Away Travel although I am an affiliate for them. As always, my opinions are my own and I promise to NEVER tell you I love something when I just don't. Enjoy!
Great review! Weight is a critical issue for me even though I never check my bag. As a 70 year old solo traveler I need to feel comfortable that I can handle my own bags. Always lots of lifting and maneuvering: in and out of car, into and out of overhead and often uneven surfaces, steps, escalators, etc.
When I saw the new line, I was immediately excited to hear your thoughts! Thank you for buying these with your own money even though at this point you definitely deserve to have these sent to you for free! Your comments on the handle are interesting. I have the gray bigger carry on and have also noticed a strain on my arm when I'm pushing it through the airport. I do think their prices are getting out of hand though so I don't know if it is worth the upgrade but I also bought mine when it was $245 with the battery so another $100 for slight differences doesn't feel worth it yet. Maybe a color will come out that I have to have! Looking forward to hearing about you using it in the future, definitely a gorgeous bag!
I have been waiting for the comparison review and more descriptions of the updates. So glad you did this and that it is coming from a channel I trust. Thank you!
Thank you so much for that great review. I had ordered the everyday bag and the larger carry on based on one of you previous reviews, and love them both. My 20 year old son borrowed the large carry on for a trip to Utah last week. At first he was unsure if it would work as a carry on and was surprised how he really was allowed to take it on the plane (Delta) and how well it for in the overhead compartment. Actually, he was so happy with it that he now wants one of his own. So I will go ahead and use your link to order him one. Thank you so much for all that awesome useful travel information, and for everything else you do for us.
Thanks for your review. I love my away bigger carryon, but it’s two pounds heavier than some competitors. I was glad to see the updated Away appears to have lost a little weight ( 19:03 wish it was more) and the bottom pull and light interior are wonderful! Would love to hear more after your first trip with it!!
I"m also a fan of covers! My stretchy nylon Mickey Mouse cover zips on at the bottom and folds to the size of a pillowcase, making it easy to tuck away in an interior pocket until I need it.
Love the honest review. We are a travelpro family with multiple international trips and train stations per year and the magnetized positions on their mid to higher end spinners keeps you from fighting a bag that constantly wants to veer off course. We have a single one without it and I may or may not plot so that my husband has to shove it around… Just wish they made beautiful colors like your bags, and their base weight is fairly high.
I feel like every brand has it's pros and cons - I've had travelpro in the past and really did like them but the weight on Away is what has kept me with them. Thanks for watching!
That lovely, shiny salt color (looks more like cream to me) is liable to show scuffs and scratches more easily. I agree about that light colored lining, though. It’s a mood booster!
Your honestly with these product reviews is refreshing and welcomed!!!! We actually have an Away shop near us and I'm considering a visit to find a new, GOOD carry-on for our son. 👍
That trunk is an exact copy of the Monos trunk, except the Monos trunk doesn’t feel cheap and it doesn’t have a zipper, just has locks, which is more secure. Inside my Monos trunk, I put two stacked lightweight 22”x 12” drawer dividers, which is really convenient.
I had that kind of suitcase before it gets so so dirty! Maybe you can take it to the dry cleaners or something I don’t know what to do about that! But love your channel thanks for all you do
I would love to get some Away luggage, it looks beautiful and nicely made, but since we've been flying Singapore Airlines a lot, the carryon is just too heavy at 7.5 pounds. The total carryon weight can only be 15.4 pounds, so we went with lightweight softside carryons that only weight 4 pounds, so we can actually fit enough for our 3-week carryon only trips. I'll probably buy some eventually as I'm sure we'll be doing some U.S. travel in a year or two! Great review, thanks!
I’m so glad you made this video! I was considering the trunk because that Seafoam color is a dream for me, but didn’t know how much different it would be from the large.
Great review Jen. I was intrigued as the differences as the ‘Classic’ Bigger Carry On is 45% off here in the UK at the minute. So I’ve ordered 2 in Coast to match our Everywhere Zip BackPacks. The differences you’ve gone through do seem like a positive step, but given the deal over here I think I’ve done the right thing.
I have flown with my Bigger Away on American Airlines (most frequently), Jet Blue, Southwest, Delta, United, Copa and Frontier and have never had a problem. Obviously not on a commuter but always always always fits in the overhead otherwise.
Great review! I’m obsessed with the salt color, especially the interior. She’s beautiful! I have to use a black bag for work. I SO wish the black bag came with a different color interior. Away Travel pretty, pretty please make a black bag with a salt colored interior 🥰
Would love a post-trip update to this review re: the light colour and marks. As someone that always checks a bag I can literally only see two practical reasons for getting the trunk. 1) if it fits in your car better (assuming you're using a car to get to/from the airport) and 2) if you know that an item you're travelling with won't fit properly in half a suitcase (we bought droids last year and they fit much better in the suitcase that was one big compartment and a lid rather than the one that was two roughly equal halves. Really appreciate the honesty in your reviews, especially when it comes to the travel gear :)
What a bummer, but thank you for the honest review! We really hope to invest in larger Away bags at some point. The trunk just seems literally almost like the large size, but the clam shell is just deeper/shallower on the trunk vs. the same size on the original option.

Iceland air definitely weighed and checked size when we flew with them and I was very happy to have the smaller Away carryon for that. Love their luggage. ❤
Thanks for reviewing this. I totally don’t need another suitcase and I absolutely love my Away bags and do not need another Away suitcase but of course I am extremely curious because that’s how I roll.

I recently bought the Away Everywhere Zip Backpack off your link and love it! I have been debating though on which carry on to buy. We also travel Delta mostly, so I think I will take the plunge and get their Bigger Carry on. Thank you, Jen!
I've never had my carryon weighed with Southwest Airlines. And the bigger carryon fits the overhead easily. I was hoping for better from the trunk. I like the difference depths of each size. My super-sized shoes (size 16) are a bit too big in any orientation to fit comfortably without being smashed too much by either the compression or the zipper volume.
Shockingly I found the blue large away in a building trash heap in Manhattan. I was working and moving around when I found it. It had a very large dent similar to a car bumper dent but it still looked intriguing so I took it. I think the previous owner was frustrated by the dent and just tossed it. I went online and saw that it was retailing for almost $400, I have a Africa trip coming up so I decided to try and fix the dent. I took it to my apartment and tried to knock the dent back with a hammer, did not work. So I just pushed it with all my strength by hand and behold it popped back out, I heard the pop only leaving a very small unnoticeable dent. We have Away luggage and Briggs and Riley luggage. On a recent trip I notice I was able to use the luggage valet be cause my Briggs & Riley is more “trunk” like and I could easily close and open my suitcase and not have to really unpack. The Away luggage had to be completely opened, my daughter used that piece. Something I hadn’t thought of. Still love both for different reasons.

Thanks for reviewing, I was curious about the updates! The salt color is gorgeous but definitely don’t check the glossy case. My daughter has the neon pink glossy case and when she went on her 8th grade trip Jet Blue forced the students to check their carry ons at JFK and it got SO scuffed, she cried 😢. Luckily the majority of the scuffs came off with the magic eraser but avoid checking that beautiful salt bag!
Thanks for the review! When I saw that Away had redesigned some bags, I was hoping you would have a video! I have a monos carry on now, and was tempted by the garnet color to get another bag. However, a lot of the updates seem similar to the monos bag I have so I’m going to stick with what I have for now. Again, thanks for the honest review!
OMG I do not need another piece of luggage but do not own a hard shell and this might just have to be my first one. It is absolutely stunning! I love how you are so in love with yours already haha😅 and it was such a joy seeing your reaction as you unboxed it!
12 lbs for the trunk is a lot, in my opinion. Which is perhaps why the material may seem thinner - trying to reduce weight. With that large capacity, it would be so easy to be over weight with that bag (50lbs for most major US carriers - 40lbs for the el cheapo ones)
I purchased a similar large and matching smaller suitcase in the same blue/green color by CalPak - purchase made at TJ Maxx so it was a good deal. It does feel cheaper made as well compared to pricier brands. I am also all about the sturdy telescoping handle haha. This purchase was for my teenager so it works for her needs. I, however, would like something more durable. I appreciate your reviews!
That’s why you didn’t find the laundry bag last time 😂 that little zip pouch was actually where it was. So there was something in there last time haha. The new version which I just got replaced now so I know has them in the middle part zip ❤️
Thank you. You’re the only one with a review!! So would you say that the trunk holds more than the regular large? It also seems narrow which might work well in Japanese hotel rooms which tend to be super small)
Thank you SO MUCH for this honest review and I 100% agree - the carryon you kept is beautiful! If you don't mind, can you mention the smaller structured bag/purse that is on the chair behind you? I love it's size & structure :) TIA

@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforgethanks for responding. Lastly, did the salt white get dirty and is it easy to clean? I love both of those colors in this review and torn on which color to select.
So mine has gotten a couple of scuffs but they've all been fixable with the magic eraser (either the Mr. Clean one or the one they include with your suitcase they're exactly the same thing). And I can tell you she is GORGEOUS. Using it on my next trip and actually squealed a little when I took it out.
@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge it’s just so pretty! I wish they had more glossy colours to choose from, I’m on the UK and so far that’s the only colour online.
Personally not a fan of the green, just too bright for my liking although I love green. SO I bought a Beis carry on and a Away carryon to see which I liked better. Honestly for the money Beis won, it felt like a better quality to me and was not quite as heavy. I gave my husband the away and he doesn't travel much so it works for me.
Where is this “expansion zipper” that is mentioned on their (Away) website? I’m trying to find it but I’m at a loss to figure out where it is. Thank you.
I was looking at the trunk and bigger carryon in Olive. I already have navy and coast BCO and Medium. Like having the deeper compartment on the trunk. A little concerned about quality now…
Yes of course. I usually take the same airline domestic and international, so the same rules apply. I just used the bag I showed in June for a trip to Rome.
Don't buy a black suitcase that would have to be checked. I was in Amsterdam airport summer of 2022 and hundreds of dark suitcases were stacked everywhere in that airport and they all looked alike! That green suitcase you have would be found right away because it stands out. I now only buy bright colored suitcases just so someone can find them easily!!!!
Agree with you when it comes to checking black luggage. After seeing hundreds of black/dark suitcases at the airport in Cairo years ago, decided no more black suitcases for me! 😂 Appreciated the review of Away's new bag and colors. Thinking about a Medium case to round out my set.
Agree. But you can make life easier with a brightly colored luggage tag to help it stand out. My checked luggage is blue and there are also a bazilion blue suitcases out there, but the tags make my suitcases easier to spot.
Any opinion on monos? I’m eighteen and I’m starting to travel more and I’m really split on which brand I should go for there’s so many opposing views! :(
@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge I have a child with an appropriate name to inherit my existing lavender away carryon. One day we will get a true aubergine purple, I just know it.
The shiny one is just gorgeous. And the same color interior looks a lot more luxurious. The trunk is just odd. More like a box shape. The bumpers in the back are irrelevant. The aircraft does not care on what side they put the luggage.
I’m so surprised people freak over scuffs on their luggage( a nick is different) I never wipe down scuffs, it’s a badge of travel. Who cares? Sorry just weird to me
I have two pieces of the original Away luggage(bigger carry on, and medium) and love them, but I am put off by the new "matching" lining. To me it really cheapens the look of luxury luggage, especially in the brighter colors. Some of the linings don't even look like they were well matched. Definitely has made me decide to choose another brand for the large piece I want.
I have to say that the trunk looks “cheap” on camera as well (at first I thought it was the color). It just seemed flimsy when you took it out of the box. Maybe because the sides are not even? 🤷🏽♀️ And I wonder why it didn’t come with a dust cover?
So what you are saying is that while I’m budgeting for my trip that I’m planning to do carry on only, I need to budget for an away carry on. 😂 But seriously this was a helpful review.

You mentioned the insane distance between terminals in some international airports. Would you take this carry on on an international flight?
Yes of course. I usually take the same airline domestic and international, so the same rules apply. I just used the bag I showed in June for a trip to Rome.
Great review. 😘❤️
Thank you, Friend!
I actually have videos on those bags as well!
I just need it all in purple 😂. Shiny purple fohgeddaboutit.
Step away . . . LOL
It’s almost like the trunk has been opened before. It’s not even locked like when they’re new
so the white one was a medium??
No the white one is the Bigger Carry-On. Links are in the description box.
I’m so surprised people freak over scuffs on their luggage( a nick is different) I never wipe down scuffs, it’s a badge of travel. Who cares? Sorry just weird to me
How much does the carry on bag weigh?
Check the Away website for all the specifications!
Have you tried JULY bags ?
I can’t stand how Away doesn’t include Dust Bags anymore…… great review though
I have two pieces of the original Away luggage(bigger carry on, and medium) and love them, but I am put off by the new "matching" lining. To me it really cheapens the look of luxury luggage, especially in the brighter colors. Some of the linings don't even look like they were well matched. Definitely has made me decide to choose another brand for the large piece I want.
I feel that the trunk is such an awkward size. 😮
Have you ever tried Beis luggage?
I haven't.
And by the way I was talking to you! You just couldn’t hear me!!
BWAHAHAHA I KNEW IT!
I have to say that the trunk looks “cheap” on camera as well (at first I thought it was the color). It just seemed flimsy when you took it out of the box. Maybe because the sides are not even? 🤷🏽♀️ And I wonder why it didn’t come with a dust cover?
I love the shine on the crème one though!
It almost sparkles!
I have the Away everyday bag but love the Monos luggage. I’d suggest checking out their luggage too!
So what you are saying is that while I’m budgeting for my trip that I’m planning to do carry on only, I need to budget for an away carry on. 😂 But seriously this was a helpful review.
Oh I'm so glad! Thanks, Corrie!
