I use the low ridges formed by the telescoping handle to lay scarves, thin tees, hotel slippers--to build those low areas up to make the rest of the inside a flat surface. They could also hold notepads, gloves, and small, light items.
I watched this earlier today… and I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU! I finally packed my 22” pilot expandable travel pro in a way that fits in the regional overhead bins without a tug of war. I’m a flight attendant for Delta and I commute… so boy am I always packed…. It came down to how I was using the space and packing cubes… it really is specific to the luggage🧳 I love ❤ your channel and your insight and inspiration for travel and a joyful mindset💕~~ I wish you a wonderful trip and a beautiful time celebrating your mother’s birthday🎉🎉
Oh hurray! YES the bag itself dictates everything - some work better with packing cubes, different sizes of packing cubes, no packing cubes at all . . .it really just depends but using every inch of available space is your winner no matter what. So glad you enjoyed it! Safe Travels!
I'm a luggage collector and have many items of all types. My favorite brand is Travelpro and I've taken my Platinum Elite to Europe many times. The wheels are fantastic. My Europe and Asia trips are usually 5-6 weeks, in spring or fall, and always carryon only. Like you, I use the lid compartment for 2 sets of PJs and a robe. I pack small items in the "ditches" at the base of the suitcase, things like mesh bags for washing things in a machine, lanyards, empty spray bottle, wipes, travel umbrella, extra ziplocs, etc. That space is wasted unless filled to make a level base for my packing cubes. More and more airlines are restricting carryon weights now, even in business class. So, I'm looking for a lighter weight bag. My Platinum 21-inch weighs 7.5 lbs, I need to reduce that to 5 lbs. or less. Thanks for your review and packing demos.
The little zippered pouches on the travel pro bag - I usually do underwear, socks, or accessories (belts, chargers, “cheap” jewelry) in those types of pouches
After my spring international trip, when my weight limit was 8 KG, I purchased a TravelPro Maxlite 5 22" carry-on with 2 wheels directly from TravelPro. They were having a sale, and it was around $140. This bag is a full 2 pounds lighter than my old 22" carry-on and should serve me well on my upcoming 3 week international trip.
Oh you must have the patience of a saint to pack 3 times. Mind you I live to pack, unpack, repack etc.. I love how Lenny ( I think it was him) never hardly budged an inch on the bed…love him. Great video, as always…hope your mum had a h great birthday and you all had a lovely visit. It must be such a relief to have her happy above anything else and settled….👍🇬🇧
Hope your mom is good, safe & happy. Loved her so much on yr vlogs in the past. Can be a very tough transition, so hard to find a good place to land, I’m well aware. (Finally have located my mom in a place she likes, She has a very difficult personality & needs a lot of medical care as well, thanking god & all the powers that be she landed in a safe and comfortable place where she’s very well cared for. And that I can easily get to. Heavy breath, in & out….) Best of luck & well wishes to you all! 🤗. PS the Away bag worked great for 2+ weeks in Europe, visiting friends so included quite a bit of (hang clothes out to dry) laundry. More laundry than expected, but the bags served us well. Rain & cold plus then hot & dry, incl casual wear & 2 nights of theater in London… kinda crazy packing, but we managed. Glad you still like Away, no fomo here.
I've been hoping you'd review the TravelPro! After a ridiculous amount of research, I recently bought the TravelPro Platinum Elite Spinner (in Bordeaux - with a pretty pink interior 😍). It's my first expensive piece of luggage and I love it!!
That blue and white away bag sure is pretty. I have not experienced service problems with Level8. My Level8 textured carry on got damaged on its first flight (Delta made me check it as I was standby and end of the line).....all I had to do was send photos of the damage to Level8 and they shipped a brand new one to me. I did not have to return the damaged one. I did order the Voyageur carry on for my next trip. I love the wide handle being out of the way inside the bag......the trolley sleeve is an issue though. I'm planning to take a backpack for my personal item and will turn it sideways so the backpack straps become my trolley straps.
I just received the Travelpro Platinum Elite my birthday. I didn't ask for it, but boy what a nice surprise!! I travel about every 6 weeks, so I know what I like and need to travel. I loooove it. Not only is it highly functional, but looks sharp. I never liked the hard shell bags, get worn out too easily- looks nasty after a few uses and weigh more. It gets tuff carrying heavy luggage when no elevator in sight or broken.
MY BAG! I’ve had the travel pro for years in the black with gold zippers, it is pretty enough that I’ve been stopped in the airport with compliments. I love it, but am always a little worried the European carriers will call me out on the size, but so far good, so good. I use those little zipper pockets for underwear and socks, or small items I don’t want to lose like medications or extra ear plugs, gloves, beanie. I always use the liquids bag and thus far have had no issues at TSA even when I stuff it to the gills. My only issue with the bag is actually that top front pocket- I used to put my passport in there but the zipper is so sharp I would cut my knuckles, so now I put it in the external battery pocket that I never used for a battery. I can understand not loving it though, while a beauty to roll, the capacity is just a bit too small without making it bulge out.
@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge excited to hear your opinion, as I have nothing else to compare it to. You and your husband definitely have me beat on flying experience, so I value your opinion- I was very close to getting the Away bag on your recommendation, but I needed external pockets. I couldn’t get over the inevitable scenario of me hunched over my clamshell bag, wide open on the airport floor, scavenging for an item like a squirrel. Travelpro has been our default since our checked bags held up so well- including two very easy repairs that have kept them rolling on 50+ flights. Getting spare parts has been a breeze. I think I originally ended up on them because a forum said that they were a good brand for tall people. I hope your trip is going well and that your mom’s move has been smooth so she can enjoy this next phase of life.
Please my Birthday Greeting to your Mom! Looking forward to future videos featuring her. Thanks for the Video Jenn. I am currently a Travelpro use but I am considering buying Away because of your endorsement. Take Care. Enjoy your time with your mom!
They actually reached out and offered me a free bag to review and I declined. They don’t have the same warranty as away and that always makes me shy away from luggage.
I have this Travepro elite- fantastic. I use the zipper pouch on where you put pjs as my toiletry pouch by just opening my sectioned bag and laying it flat. Works great! Also for my full size lap top- just a padded sleeve- fits great in that zipper compartment- put charger in main compartment. I really love how smooth the wheels spin - it’s really easy to pull along- like butter in all directions. The lower profile of just lifting the top really works for me in small spaces. I did notice my leather side handle scrapped a bit after lots of use but very minor. Overall love this bag! I have the vintage grey. 🩵
Hey Jen! I discovered your channel via Adam. Absolutely love it. My doctor recently diagnosed me with perimenopause. I will definitely look into those pajamas. Lots of love!
Thanks for the review! I travel a lot and am always wondering if there is better luggage out there. I’m currently using the TravelPro 21” Crew Versapack and have been a fan so far, as I prefer the bucket luggages. I will check out the Away selection though, as the TravelPros are not cheap! Oh, on my bag, the plastic toiletry bag fits perfectly in the small top outside pocket, so you can very easily pull it out for TSA.
Hey Jen, the Level8 handle is reportedly superior for rolling on certain surfaces. That small change in physics reportedly makes it easier to push on the streets of Japan and handles cobblestone in Italy much better than conventional handle suitcases. I'm hoping to buy one in the next few months and will test it out in Japan. Just though I'd mention that it's more than just about interior space. There are straps you can easily source to assist with keeping your personal item bag hooked to the handle. Not a deal breaker for me, personally. Thanks for your reviews! Hope the waves in your life are getting quieter.
I have the same three! but my Level 8 is the Hegent 20”, zipperless, smaller handle than yours. It’s aluminum, so much heavier, but love the security feature when traveling abroad. I have not traveled with it yet. I find the Travelpro and Away have similar capacity, but the TP expands and like the external pockets. Also easy to keep on luggage rack in hotel for the week. I removed the suit fold over and toiletry bags from inside. Mine is same navy color. I use Longchamp boxford navy tote bag and backpack to go with this-almost perfect match. The Away is great to use if raining, but not so easy to open regularly if in hotel.
My husband has that Level 8 in a different color. His personal item is a backpack, and if you turn it horizontally the shoulder straps work as a trolley sleeve. On another note, I nearly turned an ankle I moved so fast to check out those jammies
That is such a great and reasonable question and the not very content creator worthy answer is: I have no idea. It depends on the type of clothes, the type of trip…for this I purposefully didn’t use them so I could compare the bags capacity without them? If I’m doing, say a multi stop trip I’m using them FOR SURE to stay organized but this trip was the same place for six nights so it worked without. I guess I go by feel?🤣🤣🥰
Great review! I’m looking for a midsize checked spinner to replace my beloved 20-year-old Briggs and Riley and have been looking at the Travel Pro bags. They have a 100-day money back guarantee no questions asked! I’m hoping this means I can actually use it and return it if I don’t like it.
Great bag review. The travel pro did look really pretty. Maybe I'll buy it for my husband. LOL... Okay that Mickey laptop I must have. I'm sure they don't make it anymore but it is so cute. I love it.
Hmmmm, I’m liking the fact the the one big compartment travelpro looks like it may hold more than clamshell styles. But, for me, that away bag, in that colorway, is gorgeous! And, I’m going to be 60 next month, and I just learned those flappy divider things are actually compression flaps lololo. I also don’t like how the travelpro compression flaps are situated and I don’t like the wide handle of the other one, it’s a deal breaker. Away for the win!
Pajama Cutie! Such a helpful video. All of your travel videos with packing help me immensely - although I do not need any more AWAY-temptation! ;) Random question - have you always had long hair? XO
Yes, Travelpro's warranty is for Lifetime. But if you exercise the warranty and they send you a replacement, the replacement bag does not have a warranty so it is null and void. It is a one-time replacement warranty.
