the only thing that went right for Jenson that race was the start he didn't have the pace to win, got caught slipping on all the safety car restarts because the Honda just could not generate enough tire temperature and then the engine conks out yards from home a race that promised so much for Jenson having put the car on pole unravelled big time
I remember I saw this when I was 7 years old and thought the driver was absolutely stupid for not continuing to roll over the line. Really cool to see this again
Apparently if he retired he could replace it for the following race with no grid penalty. Didn't pay off as he finished that race 7th, while he would have been 6th here
Honda actually played a smart move here by telling him to stop before crossing the line. If he would of crossed the line, he would of got a ten place grid penalty for new engine taken early as per the rules back then. However because the engine blew up & he didn't finish, he could take a new engine at the next race without any penalties.
@@TheSt1092 It is ''would have'' not ''would of''... there is no such thing in the English language as ''would of'' unless you intended to write ''would've'' which is the contracted form of ''would have.''
That's actually the sound of the pit lane warning system. When a car enters the pit lane, that warning sound goes off to warn all pit crews & anybody down there that a car is entering the pits at speed, do not enter the fast lane of the pits.

Nice double-slide save by Fisichella, with his tyres, helmet/visor, and the track covered in a mixture of oil and steam! He could easily have lost his point finish too!
First Grand Prix I ever watched! And I was hooked from start to finish! Alonso in his prime, first corner crash, the McLarens battling away, incidents left, right and centre, crash for Michael Schumacher while his brother Ralf grabs a podium for Toyota, and of course Button's engine failure! What a first race to watch!!
he don't roll up to the finish line because he would get a penalty if he would finish the race and then take a new engine for the next race. Normally when you have a engine failure you cant finish the race so you dont get a penalty for the next race if you chance the engine. that where the roles in this years
He was told by his team not to finish as if he had he would have taken a grid drop at the next for an engine change, but back then if you dnfed then you did not take a penalty for an engine change.
It was at this point I thought Jenson was never going to win in F1, he started this race from pole. At the time you'd understand. In hindsight how utterly wrong I was.
Not that dumb at all. At the next race he qualified P2 so if he had finished he would taken a penalty and started 12th. Short-term-pain and long-term-gain.

2slow2survive Finishing 6th and getting a +10 penalty in the next GP would have been definitely better than retiring the race. Furthermore, he did get classified (as a lapped car) on 10th position.

"get out and push jenson" can you even do that in modern f1?

He needs a new engine regardless, if he doesn't finish he gets one for free?
