  • This is an updated tour of my 1200 bottle cellar.
    What's new? Couple of things:
    1. I got a new glass door, allowing us to view the cellar from the dining room.
    2. A new hatch from refurbished old barn doors.
    3. Lot's of new wine, for instance the Arkenstone 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, or the Barnett 2013 and 2016 Cabernets. Also the 3 Chilean Cabernet joint ventures with Mondavi and Rothchild, called Sena (Mondavi), Almavira (Rothchild) and Clos Apalta. All 2015 and scored 100 points by James Suckling.
    4. Did you see that we converted the bird cage at the entrance to the wine cellar to a Whisky bar?
    5. And I upgraded the Tequila bar on the dining room credenza.

    That's a lot of sunlight to be shining into a wine cellar...

    Hi D,
    Stunning cellar, many thanks for showing it! One question, I was always under the impression that prolonged sunlight exposure to wine isn’t good. Might it be a good idea to tint the windows some how?

    • @decantswithd
      @decantswithd  4 роки тому +1

      The window is not out of glass, but a thick glass stone. It breaks the sunlight. We brought extra flashlights in for the video. Typically the cellar is dark enough, but allows you to see during the day without lights on. We are good, no worries.

      @decantswithd  4 роки тому +1

    • @aaronka1976
      @aaronka1976 4 роки тому +1

      @@decantswithd Well in this case, it won't matter too much because it's still made in a blockbuster Bordeaux blend style-Carmenere at its most luxurious-and this vintage they used less Carmenere than normal. You'll probably get less/none of the typical herbal/bell pepper notes average Chilean Carmenere can have, which can be positive or negative depending on your palate. At the same time, Chilean wines are sort of in between Napa and Bordeaux stylistically, so I'm curious to see how you like it and the others. winediplomats.com
