- With the Red Skies update coming to War Thunder recently, I felt that throwing a MiG-21MF against the F-5C could be an interesting match. Obviously this wasn't the most fair of fights as the F-5C has a lot of advantages, however the MiG has superior AoA and thrust-to-weight. In a rate-fight, an F-5 should beat a MiG no problem, but if the MiG puts the fight into a scissor, it should have a better chance.

i constantly find myself losing dogfights with migs in the f5-c. It's almost like they're VTOL when they turn.
You need to outmove them always stay over mach 0.9 dont go slover dont let them get behind you like he made a lot of mistakes
One big mistake you made is using flaps during a rate fight. A rate fight is all about maintaining a higher degrees per second turn rate than your opponent. While flaps are quite helpful for a low-speed nose position fight, they are actually harmful for rate fights. The reason is that flaps increase drag. This decreases your speed, thereby reducing your turn rate. Your turn radius may be small, but your turn rate will be quite low as well. When in a rate fight, only use flaps when the opponent has won the fight and is now pulling lead. Loss of speed is also the reason why delta wings are so bad at rate fights; they lose all their speed and thus are left with a very low turn rate.
Jalopezlag that is only the case if your speed increases above the optimal speed range, provided that you are pulling hard. If you are not pulling too hard to keep the speed within the optimal range, that means that the engines will not be able to provide enough thrust to cancel the drag produced by the flaps and the increased AoA.
Jalopezlag I have a key bonded to switching control modes. Any time that I may need specific sustained inputs I just switch over to full-real controls. This is very useful when you need to pull some really high AoA or when you are in a rate fight.
Should do this is sim. The strengths and weaknesses are more pronounced in that game mode for each plane.

Hey I wanted to wait until Landcaster told he didn't have a squadron as to not step on his toes in case he was planning one, but I run a squadron that is welcome to both experienced and new pilots.
