- Here is one of our Mira 18 1/2 inch Concert Grand console music boxes playing the famous German poem penned in 1840 by Max Schneckenburger and originally set to music by Johann Mendel, "Die Wacht am Rhein" ("The Watch On The Rhein"). Very popular in Germany during the war years it is largely forgotten today. Thanks for stopping in and I hope that you enjoy the video.
This is what Kaiser Wilhelm was putting on every time he went to bed.
Doctor10 I would too, this is spellbinding! 😊😊😊
I went to sleep with this playing.
Which one?
Correction: Kaiser Wilhelm
Lol
I love that song, it was on my grandmas music box from the 1880s.

@jimmyxx3 This is an early music box playing a steel disc that has projections on the underside. As the disc revolves the projections contact a star wheel which in turn plucks a corresponding tooth on the music box comb. The successive and perfectly timed plucking of the teeth make the sounds that we hear for the song on the disc.
huh, interesting, thanks for the info, i always thought music box starts from the tubular ones, you know, i never heard nor seen a disc music box before this video
You had to @ people 11 years ago? Thats so weird
A really beautiful rendition! I never thought that a musical box could sound this good!
Beautiful and charming, sounds like something played on a late christmas night, just sitting under the stars ... absolutely beautiful
A german ww1 horror movie would be Terrific with this music
Terifficly awesome
This is not supposed to be horror. This steriotype of old songs in horror films should die for good

Thanks for your comments, Jochenkopf. "Die Wacht am Rhein" in its original form was a poem written by Max Schneckenburger in 1840 and first set to music by Mendel. Karl Wilhelm rewrote the composition and it is his version that we are most familiar with today but the original writer and composer was Schneckenburger and Mendel, respectively. I hope that you enjoyed the video.
Cant believe the comment is already that old

@Daffa Baharsyah Andysa Rachman I'm talking about the Germans being defeated.
@Daffa Baharsyah Andysa Rachman WWI is the relevant war here, since the people above were talking about Alsace and Lorraine. But they lost in WWII too.
That sounds honestly really beautiful, or like we would say say in German: Das tönt wirklich wunderschön.
"Very popular in Germany during the war years it is largely forgotten today."
Just read on the discription. It is forgotten due to most people that actually watched on the Rhine actually died in the war.
Moreso it is forgotten because patriotism is a social taboo in Germany. Germany is run by people who hate Germany, both in the government and in their media.
Muy hermoso. Respeto desde Uruguay 🇺🇾🤝🇩🇪
Absolutely beautiful sound
I'd give anything to have one of these. This is just amazing. I keep coming back to watch this.
The mad dog of Shimano, 11 years ago?! Hell yeah, Majima!
@Fetchdafish Thanks for your nice comment. The disc and the music box were made in Switzerland in 1905 but to make the music box sing like this after more than 100 years requires some very diligent, painstaking labor - and it's a labor of love that I truly enjoy.
Damn wtf replies didnt exist in 2010
Absolutely mesmerizing. 🙏🏼🌹
Loved this . I Remember when I was a boy . Mein Great Nan Nar had one ,, she was born 1887 ! Loved it then . It used to play Silentnight , 🎄💖🎄

Thanks so much, Jack. Your comments are sincerely appreciated. I was pleased to see that you had stopped in to my channel for a visit. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the Mira and the tune. Very nice sound and rich bass! Mira always seems to not get the respect that Regina Music Boxes do, but, this box sounds fabulous. Nice Post! Thank You!

Ah! How pleasant is to hear melodies from music-box. These types of music-boxes help those who learn to play melodies on glockenspiel, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone and carillon. Some antique musical clocks played melodies for each and every hour on built in music-box just before striking hours on bell or gong.
This sounds like something out of a horror movie, just think of it.
No disrespect, I love this song.
I can think in WW1 German soldiers rising from the tombs.
No I frankly can’t think of it. This sounds all christmasy and wonderful, not scary :/

Such a clean, crisp sound -- you really have a great Mira.
if you set it to 0.75 it will look like the memory's theme, glitchy
You're right, it does look like memory's old theme. Except I just set the transposer to -3 and the speed at 75% to make it sound even more like Memory.
Reminds me of the Kaisereich Christmas version if you’ve ever heard that one.
I used to listen to this before i went to bed before i was 4 years old...
but it was not specifically this video, i had another recording.
Fest steht und treu die Wacht, die Wacht am Rhein!
Merkel should listen to this song.
I feel that in a list of Germany's worries today, the potential of an invasion by France would rank near the bottom

When touring a Vicksburg Mississippi pre-civil war Mansion in 1999 they played one of these original music machines from circa about 1850. I was beyond astounded and it sounded so clear with no speakers, just like you hear in this video...somehow the music comes from the disk itself...I"m not clear on how it's done. But, it works like you see in this video. This is not a joke and existed over 150 years ago...
Pretty sure it works like your average music box, the perforations cause little tiny different sized metal tabs to be almost plucked, each different tan representing a different note. Pretty cool stuff
@@liamgeiger7549 Your are absolutely correct...I was in Vicksburg Mississippi in about 1999...toured a plantation house from around 1850...and they had a music machine from 1850 on the tour with these large copper or steel large diameter disks and played on the wind up machine...I mean this thing is 160 years old and original from 1850...it played the most beautiful music with no speakers....I was absolutely dumbfounded by it all...that it actually existed. It was not a reproduction device. It was 160 years old.
@@dennispfeifer7788 I didn’t expect a reply on a 2 year old comment haha, but I can say that it’s amazing that you experienced such a wonderful machine in person. I hope to someday do the same.
@@liamgeiger7549 I was taken aback when they played it on the tour of the mansion...I never knew it existed until that day....the sound was just like here loud and crisp, absolutely beautiful...it put me into a state of shock...the damn thing was 150 years old and worked perfectly.
wunderbar
You can kind of see Edison's intellectual leap w/ his phonograph. He combined this idea w/ the occurring research in sound waves. Carbon coated drums were being used to have a needle being vibrated by someone's voice to etch a record of the vibrations of that voice. No doubt Edison heard of this research. He also must have seen music boxes & just put the two idea together in his head. Though Edison only thought his phonograph would be office equipment.
It's so beautiful, I just want to sle

Hello Memory's (old) theme from Roblox Piggy.
Wait so you know the game piggy? So memory’s old theme was this but I wanna tell you someting to here memorys sound track is this song but sett the speed to like basically 1.75 then you’ll here memory’s sound track hope this helped!
Memory's old theme in game is 1.25x speed equal to the music box. The music box at 0.75x speed is definently Memory's old theme but it's high pitched to the music box.
@@MintyCrate2200 it is memory's old them minitoon used this same audio but edited it a lot in roblox studio
