- Here are two of my favorite early Christmas discs played on our 1899 Stella Grand 17 1/4 inch console music box. The first selection is "Silent Night" and the second is "O Christmas Tree" (otherwise known as "Maryland, My Maryland"). Thanks, as always, for stopping in for a visit and I hope that you enjoy these beloved Christmas songs played and enjoyed exactly as they were on this very same music box more than 110 years ago.
These sound seems me like stars glittering in the heaven .
You thought that was good? Try to be next to one in real life, people say it sounds better than in the videos.
awww. i'm melting. I'm hearing so many new and vivid tones in this christmas music, and behind the playbar, these little silver lights from the notes pop up, which makes me feel immersed in the christmas spirit. Thank you so much for uploading this. Another thing to note is, that the music doesn't just end, it's more like a friend saying goodbye, as the music slowly fades away.
My aunt and uncle had one of these they would play at Christmas family gatherings. It has such a distinctive and beautiful tone. Great memory, Thank you for sharing this!
I use to have an album (I'm old) with about 15 Christmas songs played on a music box. I've since list track of it but I so loved hearing these!!!
The music box makes everything sound so beautiful!
I love how you can see the flash of each note when it plays because of the angle you filmed at, such a minor but beautiful touch.
Silent night,
Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
Round yon virgin
Mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Xmas 1899 - Xmas 2015 - still going strong...
I never knew this thing existed until now. It's magical.
@EdisonSquirrel Thanks so much, Rocky. That's most of the reason why I enjoy disc music boxes so much is that lovely resonating sound that is heard after the teeth are struck. Your comments are always appreciated.
Omg I never seen this before. These are soooo cool!
Beautiful. Can't believe I haven't come across your music box videos before
I am very pleased to have found your channel channel I have always been fascinated with music boxes, Although I own hardly any. This takes me back in time when I actually seen some impersoned shops in Wisconsin is Wisconsin and the house on the rock..
Doug, "Silent Night" sounds so graceful on your music box. The notes of the song leave a trail of sparkling sound; I would guess that this is the music box equivalent of accompaniment.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful music box with us all. 118 years old and still sounding magnificent. What a treasure. Fantastic to know people are making sure these machines survive into the future
Absolutely gorgeous..thank you for posting this.
Divine...how God can touch the human mind and creativity to create these sublime devices...so beautiful...
This reminds me of ice cream vans coming up the streets in UK.
Hope I enjoy it? There's no way I could not. Thank you very much. You're very lucky to have these and we are all lucky to be able to see and hear them.
Sounds like Christmas in fairy land .
Un gran favor nunca nunca quiten, estas reliquias tan bellas son creaciones, que no volveran ahacer, creadas son la historia que los antiguos dejaron .
How utterly beautiful!!! This just lifts my spirits and started my day out magically!!!

@amiedetherese Thanks for the nice comments! Yes, the highest notes on a music box disc are nearest the outer edge while the bass notes are nearest the center of the disc.
Greatly enjoyed - Merry Christmas to you with thanks.
Hello, yours is the first music box channel I found on UA-cam years ago! Thank you for the hours of authentic music box music I have downloaded.
Lo antiguo , esta sobre lo moderno y jamas , lo antiguo pasa de moda son creaciones maravillosas y de excelencia maravillosooo..
I guess I learned today that I know the tune to Maryland, Oh Maryland.
the sound of my childhood in germany :-)
so lovely
Nowadays these types of music-boxes are electronically imitated by some quartz clocks because they contains electronically recorded and programmed circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker. Those quartz clocks also imitates the sound of thick and hard coiled wire of metal struck by hammer for hour strike soon after the melody is over. In India Ajanta, Promise and Prestige are the most well known brands to manufacture such quartz clocks.
I'm thrilled. This is what my soul needed.
Thinking of a Christmas.. In a bygone era... It's.. Eye opening..
This has got to be the most delightful and adorable rendition of Christmas Music!
It will be Easter soon ~ so I will store it in my little private x-mas file, until it is time to share it with all my friends & family. Thank you for allowing me to do that :o)
the embellishments are lovely, hear and see the tinkling

Lovely! I'm going to set a reminder to myself to share your video on FB this Christmas. Thanks so much for sharing your special music boxes and discs with us.
Awesome!!!☺
very good
I love the sound of these music boxes and the last chords resonating are spectacular. There is a book by David Fuller where he illustrates how Baroque music was represented on music boxes. There is one example where the Baroque composer Claude Balbastre helped make the disc! An example of the "notes inégales" of the period. Type this in Google to see the book - book design: Mechanical Musical Instruments
