Thanks for the vid. As a tip, to start the new plugs in the head, cut a 6" long piece of vacuum tubing and slip it over the electrode. You get great feel that way for getting the plug start. Once you give it a full turn, just pull it off the plug. I learned this years back from a marine tech working in really tight spaces.
I had a backfiring issue after adjusting the plug gap with that round gauge. (Garbage, throw it out) it set the gap too narrow causing a weak spark causing unburned fuel to re ignite in the exhaust. Use a proper feeler gauge to set the gap.
Excellent tutorial thank you. I would've used a little anti seize on the plug also a little silicone grease in the plug boot will aid in keeping moisture out and easier to remove the socket from the plug. Have a great day.
much easier on this 1100 vs the 1700 roadstar (Which has 4 plugs and tank needs to be moved)...but i just replaced my NGK plugs after 20K miles and they still looked brand new perfectly tanned..
what is the best reference book to buy for a bike. I adopted my Dads 1100 Vstar. having some Speedo issues where it's located in the tranny. I'm not a mechanic per say as far as self maintenance but I'm looking to change that. I'll be watching. thanks.
I have one put out by Yamaha. Just know the year of your bike go on Amazon and type in "Yamaha XVS1100 Shop Manual" or something of that nature. I also found this on the internet which is basically the same thing. mg.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.rand=4qbm7bj7br1el#6191812103

I have oil in my spark plug. My bike has been popping. I took it for just an oil change and they decided to change my spark plugs and put something in the gas tank.. It hasn't been the same since. The spark plugs they put in, popped and my friend changed them out real fast, but didn't do the ring size thing I don't think.. Either way, its popping again and im sure if I change spark plugs again, there will be oil inside.. What's the issue?? I'm not sure, maybe carburetor cleaning or replacing I'm not sure.
Sounds like you have a lot of problems. Take the bike to a Yamaha dealer to find out why there's oil in the plugs. My bike pops a lot too. I could probably adjust the carb, but it's never really bothered me that much.
@@derfskittlers6125 Thanks.. It seems a little better, but idk. They want a lot of money for things and they aren't even sure. I'm kinda afraid seeing the last place did all this extra stuff I didn't say to do.
my bike top covers don't come out like that, I have to removed the tank first in order to removed the plugs.. theres 2 screws I need to removed for the cover
You say to remove the plug cap when changing the plugs yet in your video you replace the plugs with the plug caps on. Which is it ? No point in saying one thing and doing the opposite.
Francis Cummins He literally made a note in the video that he messed up when he installed it. Rewatch the video and don’t be a turd towards someone taking the time to help.
Jesus man you say that it is important to take out the protected nub from the sparks before install you install them, I mean the nub caps on the sparks! right?.. and than few seconds later you set up the new sparks with the damn nubcaps..????? wtf..!!!!

Right on.....good advice, I'll try that next time. Thanks.
Gratitude from Los Angeles California! Good video.
Cool.
Excellent... thanks. especially for noting the little cap that needs to come off the new plugs.!
Thanks....I learned that lesson many times over myself!
Hi, is your rear cylinder cover broken at the right side?
Yeah, one of the plastic pins broke off.
Great video. Thanks from the Netherlands!
It feels like we just changed my plugs together..lol... perfect tutorial

It is easy to start a plug with a few inch long piece of fuel line. I always keep a couple different sizes in with my tools.

It's not recommended to use antiseize on alot of new style plugs
What is the correct size of the socket thanks in advance
Excellent video. Make more please of different jobs.
Thanks guys.
Thanks from germany ! youre video was very helpfull :-)
Thank you for the informative video, my first time working on my bike.
EXCELLENT!!! Thank you!
Glad it helped.
You should always blow around the plug with compressed air to make sure there is no dirt that can fall into the cylinder.
Agreed.
Great vid ... thank you !

How big is the spark plug socket you used? Thanks
21mm
where can I find a video that shows how to change the coils on the 07 1100 vstar ?
I found this on UA-cam. I imagine the 650 and 1100 are similar.

@@JonnyAreo Good luck on finding the problem(s).
Your bike should be popping. It's running too rich or lean, I forget, but either way have it looked at.

What year is your Vstar?
mine is the same, 2003.
1100s are easy but I think the bigger engines you have to take gas tank off.
What year is your bike?
2001 or 2002.
Lol 😝 the Nubba Bubba lmao 🤣
i all my years never had to use a torque to install plugs.
C'mon man! I was just doing what the manual says :-)
HAHAHAHAHAH.. NOIOOOOO. you still forgot the nub!
What? No beer or cat needed to perform the spark plug change?
Hahaha.....oh rest assured both were close by 🙂
