- Hey guys!! Today we're jumping back into our Budget Master Bedroom Makeover (episode 2) And it's coming together SO beautifully!! In today's episode, we are painting the entire room, including the ceiling lol... also are keeping most of our furniture, but we are swapping our our nightstands for some new ones! We're also building some DIY wood shelves to give us more height in the room and draw your eye to a beautiful plant wall/book shelf, and finishing things off by elevating our existing olive tree and adding about 2 ft to the height to help it fit the space better! Have you seen Re-tique it? I’ve seen some beautiful transformations and bought some to do my front door, but haven’t gotten to it yet. It might give you the look of your inspiration nightstands.
The makeover look so good. I love the night tables the color they are, but if you want to paint them, a subtle grey with green undertone sound the best.
That really dark paint which is almost black would also be nice in your bedroom. Definitely not matchy-matchy!

My husband filled the bottom of a pot with spray foam-insulation. We lined it with a garbage bag so we could more easily remove if we wanted. Let it dry/cure. Then added my faux tree and covered with moss. Make it lighter for moving.

Love the brighter walls and ceiling and the shelves look so much better in the alcove. The taller pot/tree fills the space better. So much fun to watch your creativity!

XO McCenna used a product in her bathroom makeover that made her cabinet look like wood. Very cool. Maybe something to check out for your nightstands to look more like the ones you liked.
🇬🇧 Absolutely lovely! You can use brown paper instead of 400 grade sandpaper to ‘sand’ between coats of varnish, it just knocks back any tiny imperfections without removing any varnish. I’ve used half a bag of post cement to raise my plants. If you had space, the leather chair would look lovely under the shelves, the rich colour and vintage look would pair lovely with the wood.
For the night stands, you could add some black paint to the paint you used for the bed, in order to make it tonal but not the same. 🇬🇧
I would attempt the wood look on the nightstands! A color that would tie them into the shelves🤩
Amanda, it turned out so gorgeous! I said this before, but your steady hand at painting straight lines around the base and outlets is outstanding. I’ve tried, and I’m not there yet. Kudos to you and Kyle on this makeover! Oh, and the Olive tree looks like one from Crate & Barrel. Love it!
Great work on creating a fresh new look for your bedroom! It would really warm up the room if you painted the nightstands and dresser and a wood tone. Gel Stain works great! A similar stain to match the shelving and the pillow on the bed would tie everything together.
I love the plants, I like that you're adding something organic to your room, that nook looks gorgeous. I do like the paint color on the walls as it makes the bed color now pop even more......
I love how every thing turned out it looks so nice nice I like the suddle touch of the gold, for the night stands maybe paint them the Evergreen fog you've used it will look nice with the gold and maybe stain the top the same as the shelves

Thank you so much for using the brackets that you did. I've had those exact brackets on my Amazon wishlist for months trying to decide if I would like them. Seeing how they look when used helped me decide to go ahead and purchase those. I love the tree and such a great fix. WTG Kyle! "Plants need to be a little neglected to make it in my house" - LOL. Love it. Same in my house!! Plants have to be STRONG before coming to my house or they'll never make it. I think painting the nightstands would be the way to go. Your room is looking fantastic. L-O-V-E the shelves. Can't wait for the next video!
just something to think of for future projects - for the olive tree, I would've filled the bottom with sand or something similar much like you did, but instead of making a wood platform, I would've sourced several of the circular shaped foam inserts made for faux planters/flower arrangements. Much lighter, easy to disassemble/reassemble, and height adjustable by removing/adding foam inserts. Very cheap as well, they aren't terribly expensive. Probably put down a sturdy piece of board on the top "layer" and set plant in (so the plant doesn't tip over), then do the rocks on top much like you did!
Love how bright the room looks! When we moved into our small 1938 bungalow, I decided to paint the rooms historical colors for the era and style of the house, lived with those walls for 9 years and just felt all closed in. So, we painted every room- walls, ceiling and floor boards Creamy from Sherwin Williams and all the window trim is Urbane Bronze as I don’t want a black or gray or even white as the windows are original wood single hung windows with great detail (our exterior stucco is painted Greek villa from SW and the window trim and storm window trim is also Urbane Bronze- it really looks good with the rusty red metal roof). Honestly, I have found the Creamy color to be very versatile in how I can change all my soft decor, how my walnut and old oak furniture and end tables just look so good against the light walls, Creamy definitely has yellow in it but its not in your face. I tried to avoid a lot of the black metal trend like lamps and candle sticks, etc but I found that black curtain rods and black lamps with glass cylinder glass works really well for my eclectic style (from 1920's oak to mid-century walnut to modern furniture- I have a more curated look that flows well from room to room). I love green plants in all rooms, they bring a room alive! I can’t wait for the next episode!

Retique will allow you to make the nightstands a nice wood color, perhaps the same tone as the shelves!

For the night stands, to get closer to your inspo look you could paint it with that wood paint (a brown paint that actually has wood in it and then stain over it to give it a wood look). XO Macenna did it in her bathroom if you wanted to see what it looks like.
Goodness lady this is a huge undertaking! The room is so big! I think you have such great style and have inspired me to find used furniture to refurbish. I have needed a better night table for my side of the bed (the one I have been using is quite short and more of an end table than a nightstand) and we found one for $20! It a really pretty cherry wood color so I just polished it up and it is the perfect addition to my space. Thanks for helping me see ways to change things up that isn't a thousand dollar ordeal.

As far as I remember, it was mirror 3 or 4 you finally got, that were NOT broken. So I understand you leave it on the wall. I know I would have done the same thing.😊
It's looking lovely. I'd use retique it on your nighstands and stain them for a nice contrast with the bed and walls.
My sister just painted my bedroom. It was a old and dirty sandy colour wallpaper. It had been years since my bedroom had been redecorated. Also I had just changed a blown bulb and thought the new bulb was a very low wattage. My bedroom is now white and gleaming and that bulb is bright and gleaming too, not as low wattage as first thought. I love the white in my room now. Love the colour you chose too 😊😊

Hey Amanda I don’t know if you’ve heard of retique it. You can make things look like real wood, i think you could use that and get your nightstands to look like your crate and barrel dream nightstands. It’s basically a paint like substance that has real wood fibers and once you’ve done that layer you then go in with a wood stain. Xomacenna used it in one of her makeovers. The room is gaining so much personality in this makeover and I love the shelves and plants ❤

Love the transformation. Although I liked the grey color on the walls. But this new color does make the room look brighter. The shelves turned out okay. I love the plants on the shelves. I'd have done a mix of faux and real plants. I'd do the nightstands in the same stain of the shelves. Everything looks good. I will have to view the prior videos. It is amazing of what a little paint would do. It's an inexpensive update.
You did great! Love the bed, shelves. I like a grayish green on the nightstands. I would leave them white though, do an accent wall instead dark grayish green... Get marble tops made for them... You definitely need an accent wall in maybe a dark moody color behind the bed or behind the TV with a fireplace and mantle with built in bookcases on either side of the fireplace. We love our fireplace, but have doors on either side of the fireplace. So our built ins are on either side of the triple windows instead. Our accent wall is behind the bed. We live in North Carolina, 1 hr & a half from the nearest beach! We love ❤ North Carolina!!

You should use Retique wood paint and then stain your nightstands. They would actually look like the wooden ones that you wanted.

LOVE what you’ve done to the bedroom so far! I too have decorated more in a farmhouse theme and have found my tastes/style changing & it has been fun playing with colors and new styles. I’m so excited to see what else you do - it’s giving me so many ideas but I just need to get the courage to try do some experimenting on my own and/or call my brother and beg him to help out with some things! 😁

I would change the handles on the dresser to gold colored ones. That’s the only thing that stands out. But it actually does look finished to me. A nice large art print in an ornate gold frame over the bed would also help to complete the space. But furniture wise it’s great. And I know everyone is doing it but wainscoting would look really nice on the wall with the tv
