I don’t think it was you know. Looking at where he landed in his 8.76m in the same competition, this was not over 9m imo. Gideon Ariel in “The Perfect Jump” said he estimated it at 28’ 11” (8.81m)
@@crabb9966Yeah some spectators and photographers said "it was over 30 feet". They're going off the distance boards besides the pit which seldom match up with the actual distance. Like you said, we'll never know
Yeah Helluva jump.... no doubt about it, but it's still not as long as Ivan Pedroso's barely fouled jump. With his jump we clearly see he fouls by about a 1 cm.... but easily jumps well over 9m. Others who have studied this very jump have estimated it to be 9.07m. ( less then 1 to 2 cm foul..) and that resulted as the single furthest jump of all time, including fouls deducted.
I don’t think Pedroso ever beat Carl’s 1982 jump. I do think he should be the WR holder for his 8.96, though. The wind meter was reading +1.2 m/s right before that idiot stepped in front of the wind gauge.
Great JUMP!
But...and the SONG? 🎵
Its difficult to judge from this view if it was 9m or not..

Looks a bit under 9m and also pretty clearly a foul. Still, pretty great jump.
