- In this video Mike Icee will replace the car battery on a Mercedes W212 E350 e-class. The battery goes for $350 at the dealer. The battery location is under the hood on the passengers side. You'll see all the steps (step by step) and DIY tools needed. This battery type 48 and 49 was used in most 2010, 2011, and 2012 + E350 cars. Always check with a Mercedes Dealer for proper parts and repair methods. The battery replacements costs $350-450 at the dealership.
Our E350 has an auxiliary battery somewhere, I think that's why all the settings get remembered. Thanks for the video.
Under the hood passenger side under the plastic cover by the wiper cowl
I have a 2014 and a 2016...the auxiliary batteries are in the trunk. Thanks for posting this b/c my settings were remembered.
I like the way you narrated Or POV'd the disconnect and install. Wish more You Tubers did the same. Great job! Thank you
I just watched your video to see how to replace my 2016 e350 battery. Your videos explained exactly what I needed and I was able to get the battery from Costco and replaced it. Oh btw I purchased the size 49 battery per your suggestion and it seems like it’s little too big from the top for the black plastic cover to close easily. But with little extra force I was able to close the plastic lid and the hood without any damage.
Thank you so much. Keep up the good work. Next I wanna learn to perform Service Pack B.
Beautifully done!!
Thank you
Thanks very much...I did drop the bolt that held the harnass in and it fell into the body. Luckily I had one that fit so I removed the battery vent housing which gave me more room to reset the screw by hand...saved me $300 thanks..got the perfect interstate battery at Costco for $165 dealer wanted$500
This is a great video. I put in a MTX-49 AGM from Interstate with a 3 year replacement warranty into my 2015 E350. It was cheaper than dealer and they offer no warranty on their battery. It was super easy because I knew what to expect and had the right tools before I popped the hood. Thanks!
I'm glad it helped. I suspect they used the smaller battery for MPG or whatever... the car seems really happy with the type 49 which is the "optional" size for this car.
All of your settings were remembered because you have a second battery that handles all of the interior functions. That battery is in the trunk against the back seat.
Thank you for the video. It helped to change the battery in my E350.
Thanks Mike. Brilliant. POV style is great and your narrative even better.
Great video
I like your POV style definitely think it’s smart. I would like to see on other services for the Mercedes
Nice... yeah i think it shows the actions and the explanation makes it easier to follow.
What is the part number for the battery cover? Mine is missing.
awesome very informative video...thanks...love the video in video
Nice pov style
Thanks! I try bro!
Thanx man
Appreciate the post
How about disconnect battery with no power supplying? Some say it can harm car system that you should power car with external battery when you change it, what you think?
It has an auxiliary battery, and the car even remembered my exact climate control settings, clock auto reset, power window settings, radio stations, and I had no issues what so ever. I've seen people apply a booster pack to the jumper connectors to try to preserve power during the change, but I think that's overkill.
Thanks for input! That’s what I heard some do with booster but if everything work good after why complicate with booster! Yah forgot about auxiliary battery! 👍
No battery in that spot. Only an airfilter
Great job
Thanks for your comment James!
Any clue why the negative cable to a w211 2008 e350 would just get melted and fry the whole cable
What about using a battery saver to ensure no computer info is lost
One other consideration. My dealer only gives me 1 year warranty on the battery. After market batteries give you longer warranty. I purchased a total of 4 batteries from the dealer. Each one lasted 5 years. One battery lasted 1.5 years. Sorry out of warranty I was told.
My odyssey battery still going real strong over 2+ years.
MB roadside assistance replaced my battery yesterday, and the car started, clock reset etc... but when I put the car in drive, it wouldn’t go anywhere. The reverse camera also didn’t work, so I shut the car off, and tried to turn it back on, and the engine wouldn’t start. The Benz tech that installed the battery was at a loss, and my car is now at the dealership. It has 67000 miles on it. Any ideas?
Wow, what model and year? Was the car completely turned off when he removed the battery. Thats really weird with the shifter because the aux battery can operate the transmission shifter.
Not under the hood where this video says it is wiperfluid container it there
Have been told its, under the passenger floorboard is that true and how do I get floorboard out if thats the case the aux battery in under the trunk floor
I never seen that, on some V8 models they put in the trunk where the spare wheel goes. you'll know because the auxiliary battery is much smaller.
I accidentally dropped the 13mm bolt under the metal battery mount. How to get it out!? Also dropped a plastic pen inside the fender. How to get the pen out? My install didn’t go too well :)
I did the same thing...luckily I had a bolt that fit...
Yo mike can I buy parts for my 2012 e350 blue tec sedan from directly the MB dealer ship ?
Yes the dealership sells parts, politely ask for discount. They usually will give you 10% off, 15% sometimes, and 20% if you're lucky.
Will the Auxiliary battery be effected when the main is changed
I've had no issues. Still have the car 310K miles on it. If you are slow you just need to hold down the and up the window switches for like 3 or 5 seconds at each extreme to relearn the auto up and auto down.
I have a 2010 Mercedes E350. People keep saying I will need programming for the battery is this true? I never see this is the videos
2010 is first year sometimes things are different... I noticed if you leave it disconnected for awhile the car may need to have the auto windows reset... which involves lowering the windows/holding and raising and holding. I had no issues what so ever and still have my E350.
The video was not showing step by step& not close up to view where screws go like other videos.
Thank you for your feedback.
Is an H8 same as type 49???
Is it ok to install other brand battery on Mercedes?
yes, but make sure it’s the correct battery/type. Most modern Mercedes use AGM batteries. Many people buy from Costco.
Mike ! my mechanic is telling me that this car has two batteries one under the hood and the other anther the back seat ! is that true ?
Look where the spare tire is or would be... some models have an extra battery. If its a W212 sedan not a chance its under the seat.
@@mikeicee hey Mike. I got a 2007 E350 and tried to jump the battery in the trunk and the radio came on and lights but would not turn over ! YA THINK I JUS NEED TO CHANGE THAT BATTERY INNTHE TRUNK SINCE IT SHOWS RADIO ETC COMING ON JUS WONT START WIT JUMPER CABLES. WHATS UR OPINION? Get battery for the trunk ?
@@johnnytutone2422 On Mercedes they have a hard time jumping, I'd at least get it charged and check the date it was made. If its older than few years I'd replace it.
@@mikeicee thanks bro. Buddy said it’s only year and half old. I’m waiting for soem tools lol
I bought a battery from pep boys they sold me a 48 h6 champion battery when I got home it was smaller than the original battery can someone let me know if it’s cool to use that smaller battery thanks
It should be ok... My E350 came from the factory with a type 48, I just put in a type 49 because every other Benz I had used that size.
Mike Icee thanks so much I followed your video step by step and successfully installed my own battery, good video
Anyone in Seattle that can help me
My 2010 W212 vibrates at a stop when I have my foot on the brake either in drive or reverse. Do you think this is due to bad engine mounts?
The vibration stops when the car is rolling or in park.
You can check by opening the hood with car in Park, have a friend stand to the side and look at the engine. You'll just rev the engine. If the mounts are bad it will move a lot. There is one small mount in the back and 2 up front (left and right.)
Just took a video. Engine does move, does this look like bad mounts to you?

@@allencruz4915 LOL I just saw this comment, yes the motor mount or mounts look bad.
Hey baby how have you been ?
The dealer quoted over $500 to change a battery today. The battery is around $300, and the labor is $200! Why so much? He said they had to program the battery minder. What does that do, I asked. It lets you know when the battery is bad! Really? The car won't start because the battery is dead. Mercedes service is a complete rip-off.
Best battery right now is at Costco. Its made in Germany, and it's cheap.
