Oh my goodness! I did not know that he was gone. Thank you for the info. His version of this song kept coming to my mind, so I decided to take the time to look for it so I could listen to it. It sounds - and feels - as fresh & beautiful now, as it did when I heard it in the 60s. Blessings to you.💖
I was 8yrs old at the time this song came out, I have loved it ever since. So Long Bobby from one Philly boy to another...Thanks for the music... Rest In Peace, April 26, 1942 - April 5, 2022
Remember hearing this great song when it came out. it was a big hit, sung in Italian by Domenico Modugno. Bobby Rydell's version also has lots of energy. Perry Como had his little joke about making Bobby an honorary Italian: Rydell was Italian American, born Robert Ridarelli. He just died today, April 5, 2022; may he rest in peace.
My favorite song by Bobby Rydell. His version was more up-tempo geared toward teenagers, then the versions by Dean Martin and Domenico Modugno. RIP April 5, 2022.
David, you took the words right out of my mouth. His backing group of girls were what made his songs so memorable. A shame we never got to see them, or have I just missed the recording they were shown ?
@@derekcoleman9305 From what I understand, one of the reason you never saw them is because one or more of them were grandmothers!! They DID sound just like teenagers though. Especially with songs like "Swingin' School"
I know Darin is held in highest regard by singers but I really have to give my vote to Rydell for the incredible tone of his voice and his presentation which is also so winning. You kinda knew Darin was "trouble" but Rydell made you feel great.
Man! Those Italian-heritage boys could sure sing and swing. We are fortunate in the US of A to have so many fine bambinos and bambinas of Italian ancestry. Our great melting pot has always been our greatest strength and joy. I cannot agree with anyone who says differently.
Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Fabian, Bobby Darin, Dion, Annette, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Freddy Cannon, Lou Christie, Johnny Rivers, Jack Scott, Connie Francis....
Calihartley - You DO realize that back then Italians were not considered "white" the way that they are now don't you? There was prejudice there as well, just as there is now with Muslims. So let's stop pretending shall we.
Rip Bobby🎈 Thanks for the Memories~❤ I heard Sway today what a wonderful song. Took me right back to a different moment in time. I can see my parents dancing that day. Thanks for sharing.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think his backup was Dee Dee Sharp, Willa Ward Moultrie, Vivian Jackson, and Mary Wiley. This is according to an interview with Dee Dee Sharp.
Remembering Bobby Rydell born on April 26, 1942. He was an American singer and actor who mainly performed rock and roll and traditional pop music. In the early 1960s he was considered a teen idol. His most well-known songs include "Wildwood Days," "Wild One" and "Volare" (cover of an Italian song by Domenico Modugno); in 1963 he appeared in the musical film Bye Bye Birdie. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Rydell
Love this guy ! Such a talent ! Way ahead of all the others back then. In 1960, when I was 15, he gave me so much inspiration in my career. PS ....I wound up singing this song on a "Danny Thomas Special" in 1965. Danny Thomas himself picked the song out of my repertoire to do on his show. Thank you Bobby for all the inspiration you gave me. Update: on April 5, 2022 , a day before my Birthday, we lost Bobby. My heart is broken. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me. RIP Pisanne. Ciao for now.
RIP Bobby Rydell, r&r singer ("Wild one", "Volare" and "Wildwood days" etc.) and actor (Bye Bye Birdie)(79) ;-( Bobby also toured in 1960 with "the Everly Brothers", Billy "Crash" Craddock, Marv Johnson, "The champs" and "the Crickets!, recording an australian version of "Kissin' time" for the event, as an actor he also played Hugo Peabody in the movie version of "Bye bye birdie" with Ann-Margret and Dick Van Dyke, Bobby also appeared on "The Danny Thomas show", "Jack Benny", "Joey Bishop" and "The George Burns show", he was a regular on "The Milton Berle show" and was a panelist on "To tell the truth" in 1964 etc.
My wife and I had the privilege of meeting and speaking to Mr. Bobby Rydell where he was attending an evening dinner concert given by James Darren. Bobby had recently come through and triumphed over a health issue and he looked wonderful and shone as the stars he sings of in Volare. What a gracious human being he is. While my wife was able to converse with Mr. Rydell I was reduced to a gushing fan. Thank you, Bobby Rydell!
Thank you. The situation and the circumstances were unique. Bobby Rydell was receiving friends, admirers and well-wishers alike during the salad course of his dinner; with a smile no less. Ever since that dinner, now over two years ago, I focus on Bobby Rydell's performance as "Hugo Fink" every time I watch Bye Bye Birdie (probably a half-dozen times now).
Love love love this song!. Love him. Had a major crush on him. Cant believe he is gone. All the good ones pass. Love u bob. The greatest entertainer ever. So much energy. Great voice. And GOEGEOUS. !RIP BOB. GOD BLESS. .🥰💯👏👏😞

R.I.P Bobby.. my Dad Artie Singer & Uncle Harold were prominent Vocal Coaches in Philly. Anybody out of Philly took lessons from them.. including Al Martino, James Darren, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Solomon Burke, etc. I asked him who was the most talented.. he said without hesitation Bobby.. his parents took him into Dad's studio when he was around 8.. he told them he was a natural.. that there wasn't much he could show him.. but to bring him back when his voice changed. (around 13). The rest is history.
Blows me away, so much talent in one person! Would have liked to have known him personally, seems like he would have made a great buddy. No one did Volare better!
Bobby Rydell and Frank Sinatra taught me how to sing by imitation and endless practice. It got me lots of parts in High School musicals. I’m still grateful for all the best musical times. Rest In Peace and joy Bobby.
Too right. Those Italianos could sing. But where are they now?? Loved them all. The romance has truly gone out of the tunes now. Sad. So sad. Moi, j'ai souviens les jours toujours romantique.
Bobby Rydall, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Brain Hyland, Jimmy Tillotson, Bobby Vee, Bobby Vinton and other still great and have seen them all within the last 15 yrs. Most singers now go for the pizzazz and not from the heart. I'm a big Steve Perry fan and listening to a singing coach talk about the ways he opens his month, moves his jaw to make the sound come out right. He said he is one of the best singers (for you who are not fans yes he's still around and put out a new album in the beginning of this year called Traces) the sings 50s and 60s cared about the quality and sound of their voice.

Yet another excellent recommendation Mr. Lynch!
Back when America was still a decent place to raise your children
RIP and long live Bobby Rydell (April 26, 1942 - April 5, 2022), aged 79
You will always be remembered as a legend.

Thanks for your songs. Rest in the Peace of God, Bobby.
They still play his songs at an Italian market where we shop it really brings you back to the 60s
That's what I love about all my oldies. They always take me back.
I love Italian bakeries especially the lobstah tail section ...there are 2 in Boston’s North End that are extremely famous...
where?
I loved him as a young girl and yes wow - always memories of the 60s whenever I hear him
His songs aren't in Italian???
I was 8yrs old at the time this song came out, I have loved it ever since.
So Long Bobby from one Philly boy to another...Thanks for the music...

Bobby Rydell died today RIP. Great Singer. Grew up in Philly.
I had SO much "a-goodah time" with him at a Delaware library!! Great musician, beautiful man...miss you and God bless you, Mr Rydell
What I liked about Bobby Rydell songs were the female back up vocalists. This song is still fabulous.
Great memories

One thing that was great about Bobby is unlike the others He Never left The Phila area!

Bobby's backup singers were on most of his big hits and highly under rated
The Ya Ya girls were sooooooo good.
