Oh my goodness! I did not know that he was gone. Thank you for the info. His version of this song kept coming to my mind, so I decided to take the time to look for it so I could listen to it. It sounds - and feels - as fresh & beautiful now, as it did when I heard it in the 60s. Blessings to you.💖

Remember hearing this great song when it came out. it was a big hit, sung in Italian by Domenico Modugno.
Bobby Rydell's version also has lots of energy. Perry Como had his little joke about making Bobby an honorary Italian: Rydell was Italian American, born Robert Ridarelli. He just died today, April 5, 2022; may he rest in peace.

My favorite song by Bobby Rydell. His version was more up-tempo geared toward teenagers, then the versions by Dean Martin and Domenico Modugno. RIP April 5, 2022.

@@derekcoleman9305 From what I understand, one of the reason you never saw them is because one or more of them were grandmothers!! They DID sound just like teenagers though. Especially with songs like "Swingin' School"

Remembering Bobby Rydell born on April 26, 1942. He was an American singer and actor who mainly performed rock and roll and traditional pop music. In the early 1960s he was considered a teen idol. His most well-known songs include "Wildwood Days," "Wild One" and "Volare" (cover of an Italian song by Domenico Modugno); in 1963 he appeared in the musical film Bye Bye Birdie. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Rydell

Love this guy ! Such a talent ! Way ahead of all the others back then. In 1960, when I was 15, he gave me so much inspiration in my career. PS ....I wound up singing this song on a "Danny Thomas Special" in 1965. Danny Thomas himself picked the song out of my repertoire to do on his show. Thank you Bobby for all the inspiration you gave me. Update: on April 5, 2022 , a day before my Birthday, we lost Bobby. My heart is broken. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me. RIP Pisanne. Ciao for now.

My wife and I had the privilege of meeting and speaking to Mr. Bobby Rydell where he was attending an evening dinner concert given by James Darren. Bobby had recently come through and triumphed over a health issue and he looked wonderful and shone as the stars he sings of in Volare. What a gracious human being he is. While my wife was able to converse with Mr. Rydell I was reduced to a gushing fan. Thank you, Bobby Rydell!

Thank you. The situation and the circumstances were unique. Bobby Rydell was receiving friends, admirers and well-wishers alike during the salad course of his dinner; with a smile no less. Ever since that dinner, now over two years ago, I focus on Bobby Rydell's performance as "Hugo Fink" every time I watch Bye Bye Birdie (probably a half-dozen times now).

Anybody out of Philly took lessons from them.. including Al Martino, James Darren, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Solomon Burke, etc. I asked him who was the most talented.. he said without hesitation Bobby.. his parents took him into Dad's studio when he was around 8.. he told them he was a natural.. that there wasn't much he could show him.. but to bring him back when his voice changed. (around 13). The rest is history.

Bobby Rydall, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Brain Hyland, Jimmy Tillotson, Bobby Vee, Bobby Vinton and other still great and have seen them all within the last 15 yrs. Most singers now go for the pizzazz and not from the heart. I'm a big Steve Perry fan and listening to a singing coach talk about the ways he opens his month, moves his jaw to make the sound come out right. He said he is one of the best singers (for you who are not fans yes he's still around and put out a new album in the beginning of this year called Traces) the sings 50s and 60s cared about the quality and sound of their voice.
