Except half the statistics she had in the video are misleading....
Gun Laws help no one but Government and Criminals, leaving good people defenseless. Criminals dont care about law and Government thinks they are above law, law only applies to the people that follow and obey it.
In the USA where 400 MILLION Firearms are in the Hands of 100 Million Gun Owners (1/3 of the US Population) you would think that there would be more than 12,650 of Death by firearms per year, especially when most household and daily use objects kill many more times the amount of people per year. Most of that 12,650 Deaths are from Gang on Gang Violence, Police Kills, and Accidental Deaths, less than a 3rd of those deaths are from Legal gun owners using them against others and there isn't a single Law that could be imagined that would actually change it for the better but the legislation proposed and implemented creates defenseless victims adding to those numbers as criminals prey on those that cannot defend themselves. 100,000,000 of 400,000,000 Armed and less than a 3rd of 12,650 deaths attributed to those that obey the law - that percentage is insane when the media constantly floats "Gun Violence" (nonsensical term) so often. Hammers, Fists, Knives, Chainsaws, Toothpicks, Cosmetics (Make-Up), Food, Cars, Alcohol, Smoking all kill many more people per year than all firearms combined and Doctors are the 3rd leading cause of Death in the USA (250K) but you don't see any of the movements the firearms industry sees to ban them or regulate/restrict them.
Do you fear that you will perish getting a physical by your doctor? An intense rage and emotional outburst in terror if you have to get a checkup? Most likely not as there aren't any media to strike fear into your heart that doctors kill more people than almost anything else around you. Now imagine if the news/media reported every death by a doctors hand every day all year long for 2+ decades. People would have that type of fear in their spines for doctors, this has been done to firearms and firearm owners since the mid 70's and for what ever reason the average gun owner receives the blame for any one person's criminal actions.
What is also crazy is that people think police should have firearms and not gun owners, they fear gun owners but studies have shown that firearm permit holders are 30% more law-abiding than the police. Guns save 250K-3 Million people per year in defensive use against violent crimes (Rape, Muggings, Robbery), many times not even firing a shot.
Is there any other object that SAVES so many people per year? That takes such a small percentage of lives? That is as demonized as firearms? Now on to Mass Killings, these people are MURDERERS...and murder is against the law, yet they are still doing it, they use all types of methods to commit these atrocious behaviors but when its not firearms its usually not reported by the media.
There have been 38 Mass Killings with Knives alone since 2006 and the average death count is much higher than the average death count of firearm-related Mass Killings. There are many more with Bombs (Already regulated heavily and Illegal to own without permits), cars, baseball bats, and other objects but when have you seen a report within the USA about these Mass Killings? There is a agenda and a narrative, whether you believe so or not, there is no other reason for the selective reporting of information. They paint a terrible picture on the media that certain guns are worse than others, some are "military assault weapons" (false made up term). They say the AR15 is one of them but the AR15 is not military and nor does it have select fire. Its a tactical looking hunting rifle and have been used in just a handful of Mass Killings, most are committed by handguns and rifles that shoot no more than 5 rounds before reloading. The firearm isnt important, the persons intent, mental stability, and nature is, especially when every Mass Killing has a trend that can easily been seen if you look. All Mass Murderers have been medicated with Psychotropic medications, have mental instability issues. They go to areas with little resistance (Gun Free Zones) that are largely populated, why restricting the access of more people to firearms will only lead to more defenseless victims.
What happened to America? Why is it that it's perfectly acceptable to punish good people for the deeds of bad people whenever firearms are involved but not elsewhere? Could you imagine the outrage if you told folks they could no longer purchase pain medication because SOME people abuse them and die from overdoses. Oh and the hordes of people would lament and demand their meds and they would be told "surely you can do without those drugs because even if it saves just one life, it's worth it". Oh the people would be outraged and it's not even a Constitutional RIGHT to take prescription drugs.
I mean, that's just one random example but you get the point. Why are good, law abiding citizens of the United States of America having their God given rights stripped away based on the actions of a handful of evil people? It makes no sense whatsoever, yet they call it "common sense" go figure.

No, we don't. 480k people die per year from smoking (majority from secondhand smoke), but it's ok for her to do it. Your 10x more likely to die from medical malpractice or a car accident. Of the 36k gun deaths, 28k are suicides not homicides. With those 14k deaths, only a few hundred are from so called "assault weapons."

Madonna's music has always been about the 'power of dance' and very life affirming. It's upbeat and energetic and this song is no exception. One of the best of her career! But this video is one of her best as well and it takes this song and forces someone to hear what she's saying instead of shutting the world out. It's a violent reality intertwined with a disco beat. It almost makes me uncomfortable because my instinct is to seek escapism in her music but the video doesn't allow that-and neither could those club patrons either. And really, isn't that one of many points being made here? I loved it!

I think this video does not just pertain to gun control but violence in general and that is persistent in this scary world that we live in. It did open my eyes and made me want to act upon the matter at hand. We are so lucky to have an artist like Madonna use their platform to start a conversation, to shine light upon matters that need to be solved quickly. So many thoughts... (Thank u, M)...
The reverse chronology of the. video is clever genius in many ways. Not only does it put the violence at the forefront by slapping the viewer in the face with it immediately,, it makes the viewer realise it's not so much about her as it is the issue itself (notice the crickets in criticville).... Whereas if it were the other way around it would've seemed like 'The Passion of Madonna'. Another brilliant aspect of the timeline is that it puts the violence out of the way to remind us how quick it can happen,...... reminds us that places of gathering and joy where nobody thinks it could happen is where it's taking place.... reminds us that we're watching it on television everyday thinking it would never happen to us.... that we're watching other people protest while it should be us.
Probably the most clever and impactful video I've seen to this day. Kudos to the genius of team Madonna/Akerland. Job well done. Very effective and impactful.
Have to say how much I'm appreciating Madonna's dedication to what she's doing in this era. Evertything seems well calculated and you can feel her passion in everything she's putting out. The videos for God Control and Dark Ballet are masterpieces down to every little detail. She's giving us inspiration. She's giving us quality control. She's giving us love. I'm envious of those who get to see her on her intimate tour. It's going to be a glorious moment for M and her fans that I'm sadly going to miss out on.
Lastly, notice the glaring differences between this era and the Rebel Heart era Looking back you can see how the early leak took everything out of her control. It's like she gave up on the release and promotion and, instead, put focus on the tour which was spectacular. BTW. It makes me wonder what the Rebel Heart era could've been had she not been 'raped' of it before it began. Being a very thoughtful, calculated artist that plans these things so far in advance, it must have been devastating. Thank God she gave us the tour. Such a shame that the brilliance of the album never got the chance to flourish. Makes me double think my actions as a fan that wants to devour anything and everything immediately as it shows up.... every crappy 30 second clip no matter how awful... . It makes me think "OMG, I may have taken part in the raping of the artist I most love in this world'. It makes me sad. So this era has brought a whole new me with greater appreciation for the dedication and effort she puts into her work.
OK.. I went way off the rail there.. but HEY it's Madonna, the most exhilarating artist in my life for 35 years! ❤️✌️

I was very affected by this video. Very powerful and moving. And yes I couldn't help but love the fashion and dancing as well ( which made me feel uncomfortable too because of the message behind this video!) But we need to remb the beauty and joy in this world, and what we can potentially lose in an instant. I'm fortunate to be in Australia where the government had the wisdom to ban firearms after the Port Arthur massacre. It is heartbreaking everytime I read about another mass shooting in America. May reason and logic prevail, and the spirit of humanity continue to fight for their right to be safe. Madonna delivers once again gifting us with a truly important message in her music video.

Some may call it exploitation and some may call it a #WakeUpCall. Most Americans (and I do believe this) don't see Pulse and the incident relevant anymore. It's as if it was yesterdays new line and nothing more AND FOR THAT, it's a shame. Tragic events like Pulse need to be remembered and forever in our understanding that humanity is cruel or can be cruel though acts of violence. I have to give it to Madonna for showcasing this fact even if she didn't acknowledge Pulse in the reference column. Would you rather no video be made, no push for gun control, to be forgotten or this being seen as a blimp in what was an era or time? As for her head...it could have been on the money, BUT the entire album is about "Issues plaguing our World"! Wasn't Pulse an issue or should it be forgotten? Sometimes pain and pleasure go hand and hand like oil and vinegar on a salad. The pain one felt during that experience needs to become the pain of a nation for change to occur or else that pain is meaningless or becomes irrelevant. Thank you Madonna!

I loved you catching that these types of acts are cyclical... it's not the end because it's all going to start all over again... a broken record. I hadn't thought of that in terms of the timeline of the video going back and forth. Excellent point.
I love that the club is called "Globe" and the message on the sign is "We need to wake up"... literally the globe/world needs to wake up.
My feeling is Madonna is using the metaphor of dancing as a metaphor of life itself. It's joyous, it's celebratory, it's about community coming together, it's glitter, and fashion, and it's about sex, love and friendship. Death is represented as being all around us. Life itself is at threat. Everything is menacing, sad, frightening, yet no one is doing anything. It's far too easy to snuff out life with these automatic weapons so easily accessible.
I was blown away by the use of the choral part of the song being used as a funeral hymn for the fallen dancers at the club. That was such a smart visual. It hit me hard and I was fighting off tears for the rest of the video as you see all the coffins lined up in a row. Good catch also in that the church is empty. No one is mourning. No one is preventing the next mass shooting.
Definitely the song of the year. The video of the year. Can you believe that Madonna just made her best video 35+ years into her career? Brava.

it's too bad someone in the Disco didn't have a gun to help all those unarmed people. So that they didn't have to wait for a man with a gun (police officer) to stop the criminal with no respect for the rule of law. I really think someone who murders innocent doesn't care about the law to begin with and if laws were passed it would not deter him, murder is already a law on the books.

    it's amazing how she conducted the video, from the beginning ( meaning at the end of it) she's surrounded by gun violence- on the news, in the streets, and finally, in the club; the wake-up call is loud and clear but does anyone listen? It doesn't seem that way, unfortunately; I'm not living in the States but I am terrified by the corruption of the government that prefers to take big money from the NRA rather than to act and safe people;
Enough politics though: i looooove how she looks in this video, the black-haired writer, the blond-wigged Micheal Pheipher, and I like to think the character survive the shooting- and that was the birth of Madame X - not broken, but stronger- fighter for freedom, fighter for life

The NRA feeding you their bs propaganda machine full of coming to take your rights and guns away makes you a useful idiot. "From my cold dead hands" was the propaganda of yesterday sold by a paid for useful idiot. It's not, nor has it ever been, about taking all your guns away or the right to protect yourself. It's always been about removing assault weapons that assault us all, including our government and yourself. Ya know, the ones that were once reserved for armies, terrorists, and drug cartels... The ones that create mass casualties.... The ones that the NRA insults your intelligence by claiming they're not assault weapons just to keep their pockets full while our schools, churches, and places of gathering become bloodbaths. You had the ability to protect yourself before these weapons made it onto the streets and you still do now. The disabilty in your ability is your unwillingness to focus on the problem at hand and compromise a solution.....#1 in The NRA Guide to Creating Useful Idiots..... The more assault weapons on the streets, the more massacres they create, the longer you drag your feet to the problem, the further from society you become. It's like you're fighting and begging to have the rights you supposedly cherish so much taken away because you refuse to acknowledge the NRA is wrong to market these things onto our streets without taking responsibility for the problems they create. If you think the NRA is God... If you think there's one good reason for keeping assault weapons on the streets, you're a disabled tool that's already given up your right to free thinking.
