This reminds me of the DARE program from when I was kid. DARE explained how to use drugs, how awesome they were, and where to find them, all in an effort to prevent us from using them but instead created many drugs addicts in my generation. This skit reminds me of that.

Eating disorder awareness gave me an eating disorder. Yes, I had dieting and perfectionistic tendencies before, but I never would have taken it as far as I had if I weren't comparing myself to the cases we learned about in health class. I felt like my problems weren't valid unless I made them worse. If you know anything about eating disorder psychology, you know that often it is a way for people to feel like their feelings are validated when they are being emotionally neglected or abused (they are essentially gaslighted whenever they express a negative emotion and end up feeling like no one would believe their suffering is real unless there's a physical manifestation), and so when I learned about the crazy things other people were doing, my eating disorder mind thought "if I binge and purge 20-30 times a day and don't eat anything for 4 days out of every week, anyone would agree that I have problems" so I did. What we really need instead is awareness on how to treat people who are different from us with charitable thinking and effective communication skills.
