Everyone who remixes this thinks the guitar is the lead and screws it up by making it too loud. But you, my friend, nailed it on the head with the buster sword. I applaud you greatly.
Nah I don't think so. The guitar and organ are the heart and soul of the song. Black mages version of the song, which is of course Nobuo Uematsu) is the definitive version. It has everything the game has cranked to 11. And yes some of the sounds in the original game are completely intended to be electronic and not an imitation of an real instrument, just the work of a keyboard. It's why Uematsu's Black mages version has them as they were in the game.

So often people can't seem to keep the beat and bass at the right intensity throughout this piece which is paramount. You managed to do so and do it very naturally. I love this, probably the best orchestration for the FFVII Boss Battle I've heard yet.
im listening to this over the ff7r airbuster fight and honestly, props to you Pontus Hultgren, this one feels like it keeps that manic but relentless rhythm of the original, while the official remake sounds... overloaded and really feels like it pads out the song somehow.... guess it could have been going for something different, but in terms of a faithful recreation I feel this is stronger.
The Airbuster fight music from the remake is designed for the Airbuster fight, where it mostly sits in the background behind the SFX of the fight itself. It has to hit like a truck to be noticed at all, and since that's the first real boss fight in the game and comes after like an hour's worth of buildup, it also really needs to pay off the energy and tension of the point in the narrative it's there to support. (It also has five distinct movements to match the phases of the fight!) This version is designed to be listened to for its own sake. Without having to do all the other kinds of work the remake OST's version does, it's a lot more free to be an excellent piece of music in its own right. The remake OST version is great when I'm working and need something to boost my energy. This arrangement is the one I pick when I want to enjoy the music.
Hey dude, wanted to let you know that I"m buying this album tonight. I cannot get enough of these mixes. Thanks for your hard work, I've wanted renditions of the FFVII soundtrack in this style for years.
Music of this quality deserves to be supported man. Your songs have so many little elements that are missing from most modern renditions, and I love it.
To be fair they were working with limited technology back then. Even then the sound track and music quality were revolutionary at the time it was released (>20 years ago now!)
Now I have a huge crush with all your work...I like some others songs here but god, this theme is really the better one. I hope you will go with some FF 8 / 9 / Type - 0 or even MGS I ... I have so many videogames to ask, just surprise me

The airbuster version clearly differs!

The quality of this is outstanding. Uematsu would be proud.

Sounds like the Airbuster remake got some inspiration from you bud :P
Agreed.
They should put this in the remake. It's perfect.
Played this to my goldfish, he is now a shark
Your whole soundtrack is better than the original. Fantastic, they should use your work in the remake of the game.
This soundtrack wouldn't exist without the original

agree, the game remake sounds better with this soundtrack
Love it

+Shµrelya LoL Glad you like it! I'm working on something for FF5 right now, but I'm eventually going to touch on at least FF8.
This should be used for the remake
Listen at to it at 1.25 speed ^-^
When time is almost out
Not bad
I'm no musician - but to me, it's best at 1.1x - I agree with folks, this is the best orchestration I've heard. =)
Square had its chance in the 90s.
