  • Today marks the first day we are going to make Virginia's only USDA Certified Organic maple syrup! We have about half the farm tapped and almost a full sap tank. We are going to start up the evaporator and get the Reverse Osmosis going to RO some sweet water and make some delicious Virginia Maple Syrup. This is a long video but stick with me folks, the ending is sweet!
Thanks for watching our videos! If you want to visit our farm and stay in the b&b, go to www.millgapfarms.com. We also have Virginia’s only USDA Organic Maple Syrup available for you to enjoy too!
Our videos are for entertainment purposes only. Do not try any stunts like these unless you have your own channel and plenty of insurance. No animals were harmed in the making of these videos, except for maybe Kevin.

Great video and overview of the process of making maple syrup, and it sure does look finger-licking good.

Hey Kevin! I haven't tapped yet! I'm in northern Ohio... this weather is all over the place this year! I only do about 70 taps, wood-fired evaporator and no RO. Its great fun and I make great syrup. HAPPY SAPPIN'!! 🍁🍁🍁

Geoff outdoors, great to hear from you! I’m making syrup right now. This almost the earliest I’ve made syrup. Lots of fun. Hope to see you more in the comments! Happy Sappin! Love that comment! Kevin

    Hey Mill Gap Farms!!
I’d like to make a suggestion, if you install petcock valve of some type on the bottom of the filter housing and drain them before loosening. No more wet gloves.
Great job Kevin keep it coming!

I like the idea Chasin_daylight. The only challenge is the water in the towers will continue to flow until they level out with the water filters. It's incumbent on me to swap them fast. We are getting ready to go back in the woods and tap some more. We should be making maple syrup this coming week! Stay tuned for more videos. Kevin

Which do you think made the biggest innovation in maple syrup production? The RO or the use of tubing. I’m not sure which, without tubing you wouldn’t have 100,000+ tap operations but without a RO they wouldn’t be able to process the sap from that many taps.

I have been thinking about this for a while... This is a chicken and egg scenario for sure. I can't say for sure which one is more important. without either, we could not produce any quantity of syrup. Maybe an old timer could weigh in on this? Also I think this would be great topic for a live video. Thanks for posting your question Countryroadslife! Kevin

What are the dimensions of the sugar house?

The barn itself is 120x50 with a 20 foot overhang. The sugar area is 60 x 20. The rest of the barn helps me hide my junk from our b&b guests...Thanks Kevin p.s. is this Mr. Conner?
