  • Ally McCoist shares with Ben Shephard and Chris Kamara on Goals on Sunday, the brilliant prank Gazza played on Gordon Durie while the trio were at Rangers.
It involves a car, two trout, and a 'Sherwood Forest' of air fresheners! To quote Gascoigne on the matter: "The chairman wasn't too chuffed, though. The car was a sponsored one, provided by the club. I think it had to be scrapped."

I knew Gazza when I was a young man between the ages of 14 and 22 he was a quiet lad never kicked around on the streets to much was always at football training . Back then nobody called him Gazza that was an invention of the press years later when he started to come to their attention in the very early part of his career. He was known as Gasa by eveyone and called Gasa by everyone ..I remember his first "free car " sponsored by some dealership when he was in the reserve team for Newcastle it was a shitty brown coloured Renault 5 , he was dead chuffed pulled over at a junction when he saw me behind him in my equally shitty ford fiesta and jumped out and shouted " like the car ? , I just got it " I said I didnt know you had passed your test and he replied "I haven't laughed that naughty laugh of his jumped in and drove off... he always was a genuine lad and character . I can't claim to be mates with him or nothing he was a few years younger than me and we lived on the same estate in Dunston way back when ...but I wish him peace and happiness , he deserves a happy life and good health because he is one of the good people out there in the world (football aside ) I really hopes he beats his demons and alcohol and lives a happy life without the pain that is so well documented by the press...good luck Gasa and best wishes from an aquaintance of 40+ years ago ....

I feel so sorry for the man. a football genius who could have been the best footballer on the planet if it wasn't for his addictions. people who've never been there will never understand what life can be like for us. we are looked down upon by society, a society that is so incredibly ignorant to addiction . walk a day in mine and gazzas shoes and then tell me were 'bad' people. we're just the same as you but suffer unfortunately from a serious, chronic and terminal illness. gazza, I for one, salute you!!

I drove off from work after a shift and every time I pressed the brake pedal the car horn sounded. I had a Citrion BX and thought I had an electrical problem. I went back to work and all the gang were waiting having a laugh because they had heard me going round the houses blowing my horn. One of the electricians had wired my brake pedal to the horn. Payback was his boss came back from a trip to America and entered his car in the loading bay. His ventalation ports had been loaded with talcom powder and the control had been set to maximum. When he turned on the igntion he got wasted 😂

It is kind of a shame that literally 95% of what people say about Gazza is what he did off the pitch

Through out his life bad people would take advantage of him. Probably the greatest player to come from England.... Had the world at his feet. Sadly, it went Jimmy five bellies up on him...

kodi limerick are you having a laugh, whatever about comparing gazza and larrson, but mcCoist is like a kid who won a competition beside them two, both phenomenal footballers,mcCoist is average beside them lads

Couldn't agree any more mcoist was a good player, but how can you have him up there with larrson who also proved himself at barcelona and man united and gazza proved himself at lazio, and numerous premier league teams
I'm not disputing he was good but he did nothing to prove he should be mentioned amonst players like that

    • @kodikodak1

Martin Mcloughlin What about Messi? Are you trying to say he can't be compared to Ronaldo who has played at numerous clubs such a Manchester United and Real Madrid? When Messi has only played at 1, so what you are saying here is that like McCoist and Larson they can't be compared because Larson has played at numerous clubs?

1997 my fondest memory of gazza was walking past Alan mclarens house in Edinburgh at 15 and who is kicking back on the couch with a tin of tennants. Big wave to us 15 year olds looking in with disbelief. Unbelievable 😍

When I was 16 I bought my girlfriend jeans from the Versace shop in Glasgow at Xmas time. Needless to say, I'm an idiot and got the wrong size. So on 27th December I jumped on a train from Falkirk to go exchange the jeans. When I got to the Versace store, it was closed😭. 10 seconds later a Range Rover pulled up and Gazza and his wife/partner at that time Sheryl got out, walked up to the store and straight in the door. I was a bit stunned, first that it was Gazza and secondly because he just walked right into the store when I was left outside. I got Gazza's attention through the window as I was going to ask for an autograph, he came out and we spoke, he asked what I was doing and noticed the bag in my hand. I explained that I was through to exchange the jeans and 5 seconds later I was in the store exchanging the jeans and courtesy of the one and only Paul Gascoigne left with a pair for myself. Thanks Gazza.

Haha I have to be careful I don't start crowing, Karma and all that, we have a decent team at the moment no midfielders like Gazza but men who can play together as a team. England are desperate for good players.

Richie Jones I'm Scottish so I'd take most English players as Scotsmen right now I think. They're pish but we're even pisher. I'll take that Walcott off their hands for them. :) Wales seem to produce the world's best left-wingers for some reason. Everywhere else, pretty average but as you say, hard working lads. Scotland are the worst team in the Isles so I'm just gonna keep quiet. tehehe. Everyone's better than us, no doubt about that.

I was told Scotland played well against England but they put the goals away. Wales football Trivia I presume you are younger than me. Joe Jordan is despised by the Welsh for cheating us in a world cup qualifier for 1978. The old Home Internationals were used for world cup qualification that time, Jordan hand balled in our penalty area and Scotland was awarded the penalty.

    • @apathyintheuk265
      @apathyintheuk265 7 років тому

Not quite correct with the details concerning qualification. It used to be the case for the top two from BHC to be granted WC entry by FIFA but that had finished by the 1960's. The incident you recall was actually a Wales 'home' group qualification game played at Anfield owing to crowd trouble in a previous game at Cardiff - I presume FIFA had put a one match ban on Wales playing on home soil so the nearest (and largest - Gate receipts and all that) ground outside of Wales was hired for the gig.
And yes, Jordan did cheat by deliberately 'knocking on' with his hand, altho he could never have imagined the fluky 'reward' it would achieve.

I am not a Rangers supporter (I kick for the other team... Glasgow Celtic)
I always thought Ally was a poacher. He would hang around the goal and wait for his opportunity to score. (I hated that)
It wasn't until much later when I met and spoke with him that I realised that was his job. To score and I must admit he scored some crackers.
He's a lovely guy. Very friendly and very funny.
