I love my Apple Watch! I can control my car, thermostat. The Heath features and 3rd party exercise apps are great. Very happy with it. Especially collecting long term data like active calories for years and seeing progress.

And it’s good to look at the data but you know sitting on a couch eating a bag of chips is not exercise, Apple watches are nice watches and probably the best smart watch, but in the long run, it’s really only good for Text messages, phone calls, and telling the time, all the rest are gimmicks

I turned off the option where it takes my Blood Oxygen in the background..it definitely helps the battery..plus i can always take my Blood oxygen when I need too..
Well the Family Setup isn’t that great for the elderly, because Apple disabled a lot of health features when you set up your watch with Family Setup, like ECG, Cycle Tracking, Sleep, Blood Oxygen, Podcasts, Remote, News, Home, and Shortcuts.(I found this on Apple support page)
Never had an Apple Watch before but got the 6. I did a stress test in hospital today and the heart rate monitor on the watch matched exactly the hospital monitor from 70 to 171. Very impressed with that.

You should take a look into the Garmin lineup of Fenix watches. They are obviously not the best choice for most apple users, but for serious fitness and sports fanatics they are the clear choice. The example you gave: "high altitude endurance runners" will be using a Garmin or a Suunto. Better customization, all the hardware features (including pulse ox and so on), battery life that can span months (yes, months) in the proper configuration and no touch screen. A touch screen isn't good when it's raining, you've just ran 100k up and down a mountain, its 3AM and you are tired, full of sweat and mud. Seriously, take a look at them. It might give you a broader perspective of what is out there. Keep up the good work.
S2 here, really hope blood oxygen get more accurate, but S6 was not. So let wait for S7. my S2 still work well and battery life can take it for a day: Included a 60 minutes workout, full notifications, take some calls, also track my sleep with pillow app. Just need to charge it around 30 before goto bed and during breakfast in the morning, it’s ok for me. But, dang, always on display look so great! 😆
Hey man, medic here, the blood oxygen monitor is actually very useful. Especially for sleep apnoea because it can go undiagnosed and Unidentified for years. I’d argue, it’s perhaps as important as the EKG on the watch. This gen may not track that well, but it’s a step in the right direction.
The Blood oxygen can show some untrue results, but there is a way to stop it. If you don’t like your watch tight, then you should probably thighten it, because it needs to get closer to your blood.
You’re so right about the always on display! I have a series 5 and it’s my first apple watch, but I’ve tried turning always on off and it just makes my brain interact with the watch so much slower. I really think it’s underrated.
Blood oxygen is fairly new for smart watches, before Apple Watch Series 6, only Gamin started to put pulse oximeter to measure your blood oxygen level in 2018 in their Fenix 5 Plus lineup, it makes more sense since it’s a multi-sports smart watch, climbers and some other sports might find it useful, it also use blood oxygen readings in their sleep tracking (takes a reading every hour), it also uses the readings to estimate how tired you are, for example if your blood oxygen level aren’t that great during your sleep, you probably didn’t sleep well.
Dieter, I’m curious if you have tried the galaxy watch 3? I’m coming from the Apple Watch 5 and switched for aesthetic reasons. But overall find myself much preferring the options on the galaxy watch. Really just curious if you have extensively tried others.
Conversely, I found the Blood ox sensor to be reliable and gave results within 1%+- of a 60 dollar dedicated sensor. I think the more honest observation about this feature would be "results may vary depending on user."
That’s good thinking. Part of draw of Apple products is product longevity and support. And instead of upgrading every year over minor relative changes, upgrading every few years feels lot more worth it, since it has the cumulative upgrades of several generations of product.

Hey Dieter, Dave2D demonstrates that the blood oxygen monitor on the watch works better on your fingers lol. But the real reason why it’s not classed as a medical device is that unlike the USA, the ECG monitoring is practically not available outside the US, as each countries medical authority has to allow it for use.
all u bloggers talk about is how this watch is great talk about what is not so great about it let the consumers know what to expect on the not so greater side
Did you ask Apple why the SE doesn't have an always on display? It has the same screen of the Series 5 and 6 and has the S5 which enables the always on display. Is it limited via software?
My first gen Apple Watch works just fine in past 5 years. But with watchOS 7 release, many software drop the support for watchOS 4 so maybe it's time to get a new Apple Watch. I think I'll get the official refurbished series 5.
That (PRODUCT)RED & black solo braided loop combo is exactly the combo I want. Too bad Apple doesn’t sell it bundled together. To get those colour combos, gotta order separately & pay more. Still it’s my favourite colour combo.
Stick with S4-S5 especially when new 5G phones are coming. They’ll release a S7-S8 5G models. Don’t rush the blood oxygen isn’t the hype to jump on yet.

I’m glad I got the series 5 instead. The minor changes don’t warrant the $100 price difference for me. It’s still a great watch though!
