I had one of the large-scale Eagles as a kid - it and the Starfleet Technical Manual were my most prized possessions. I loved this show and have now wasted the better part of an hour watching Eagle clips on UA-cam. Damn you, Internet!
The Eagle,Thunderbird 2,and The Jupiter 2.Will always be my fav Spacecraft. It,s great to see fans keeping it still alive and well with Computers and indie film tributes.
In the episode WARGAMES (one of my faves) from season I, I noticed that when an EAGLE was to be destroyed, it was a one-dimensional cardboard maquette (ostensibly to avoid destroying the expensive miniature models- time is money). I love Season I. Brian Johnson worked on 2001 for the late Stanley Kubrick, nd went on to win an oscar for Ridley Scott's ALIEN (1979). SFX of NOSTROMO were awe-inspiring.
The S1999 Eagles were SO cool looking. The interior crew compartment scenes made no sense compared to the external view .... but they still looked cool!
As for sci fi ships, my vote is the EAGLE. I don't know why exactly but I drew them as a kid and build models of them even now. Awesome rendering of a lift off! Very detailed and looks great with the maneuvering thrusters and landing struts! This should be included in any remakes!
The Alphans did have gravity manipulation technology (the simple fact that they had artificial gravity in the Eagles shows that). The book adaptions discussed them using it for deflective force fields once or twice (not Star Trek like "shields"). Given that, it's not a stretch for the eagle to have a graviton-based "windshield" to take care of the aerodynamics or to have the engine power for planetary lift off and landings.
@mach888888 Agree this is an outstanding video, made before CGI was even a twinkle in Steve Jobs' eye :-) As regards the sound, there wouldn't be any in space, because it doesn't travel through a vacuum. But it would be great, anyway. In space, no-one can hear you scream!
I agree, except that the Eagle wasn't designed for atmospheric flight, only vacuum. They should've had a running side story about designing a new spacecraft capable of entering and flying in atmosphere, using Eagle spare parts.
@stevenewyork Season 1 was the more philosophical of the 2 Seasons. To say that both Seasons were crap is to suggest that you don't remember how different the two Seasons were.
This is great! Keep up the great work! Now if only a sequel series could be made (Like James Cawley did for Star Trek TOS) though I would like it to be after "Message from Moonbase Alpha."
Impressive but some reason I don't remember the Eagles looking that good and I can't seem to remember if they had that lighting at the bottom,...one last note: BRING BACK SPACE 1999 AS SPACE 2099,....And be sure there is another Maya character,...I believe she was the star attraction to the whole Space 1999 vision,...
Yeah, would love to see a new series made, but i fear they would screw it up somehow. What would it take to knock the moon out of orbit? Certainly the destruction of the entire planet Earth. The series could just be about the people stuck on Moon Base Alpha trying to survive in a new orbit around the sun, perhaps having close encouters with the outer planets and their moons, which they could explore, maybe finding life forms. Maybe aliens feel safe to comunicate after the human race is gone.
Because the original models look great and are more physical than some computer animation? Because there is no need to fix that which is not broken? I actually think that the models often are the greatest part of Space 1999. But sometimes the story can be great too. For example, I remember that I loved an episode called "The Infernal Machine".
@stevenewyork I was hooked watching first, U.F.O. with Straker (sp?) leading the brits, then they stopped making those for this, Space 1999. They were nice SciFi Saturdays.
A new series could be done, but instead of having the Earth or Moon suffer a titanic explosion, perhaps they could be experimenting with some type of drive or transmitter or something that is an attempt to break the light barrier only to cause the Moon to "wink" into an alternate dimension, trading places with the Moon before it-- it would be like "Sliders" as they visit alternate Earths... some where humans never evolved, or where Communism dominated, etc.
I never think Battlestar Galactica have great scripts, thought i loved and still love the space fights from season 1 (Thanks to John Dykstra and Star Wars...). Space 1999 offered a new world on each episode and interresting storylines, though the original pitch was totally incredible and everything look obviously "studio".
@stevenewyork Yeah, "Rules of Luton" was one of my favorites from Season 2, also. How does the premise not work? Moon drifts through space, encountering other worlds. Sure, it would have to be moving awfully fast to encounter that many worlds (AND escaping their gravity wells!), but that's what you accept in order to enjoy the next episode. And Warp Factor 8 is a premise that works? If anything, the Season 1 didn't work because it was too intellectual.
@stevenewyork like the seriea UFO. chrome silver mini skirts and purple wigs, pretty-boy bell hops driving italian sport cars, secret subs and air/space ships flying around trying to catch mirrored disco-ball ceiling ornaments with no real plot or premise of who they are why there here or where they came from.
Nice bit of video but it would seem the thrusters are working in the wrong orientaion to rotate the eagle? Just being a bit anal but its a shame to have gone through all of the trouble if its not right?
As others have said, this is the only sci-fi show with ships that were entirely believable. I'd like to see them bring this show back, but it would probably be a politically correct crapfest on the order of Star Trek: Voyager.
Something about the design of Eagles always "felt" real ... and still does.
Dude, that was fantastic work!!! I love the Eagle -- best design ever.
Awesome!.. I love it as a kid and always will 👍🇳🇿

Wow, i just love the eagles... it's so dramatic & real !
The Eagle,Thunderbird 2,and The Jupiter 2.Will always be my fav Spacecraft.

Brilliant. Lovely model and movement.
The Eagle was the very 1st CGI model I ever built. Such a handsome craft. Thank you for posting this.

I love eagle in space 1999.
I praise your work
Magnificent work - well done.
GREAT JOB!
Nice CGI for the Space 1999 Eagle Transporter
Amazing!
Apart from that great work

A most excellent job, very nice indeed!
love this show thanks
Beautiful ;-)

Very nice attention to detail. I've played with some CG versions of the eagle as well meeting other TV starships.
This looks real!
What a cool ship. I could be tempted to buy one at my hobby shop :)
Beautiful
nice animations, the original show used water jets for the undercarriage jets.
Amazing and beautiful shot.
They should remake this wonderful show.
No, because they'll ruin it
@mach888888 Agree this is an outstanding video, made before CGI was even a twinkle in Steve Jobs' eye :-) As regards the sound, there wouldn't be any in space, because it doesn't travel through a vacuum. But it would be great, anyway.

I drew the transporter many times, and did so for a serious project many years later i.e. 1987!
That's how space flight would look like
NICE ANIMATION JUST ONE THING YOU HAVE THE POSITIONING THRUST WORKING BACK WARDS,
I think it is because of the rocket engines. All other spaceships in all other sci fi series work with some unknown future technologies.
Yeah, would love to see a new series made, but i fear they would screw it up somehow.

I think two of the side thrusters are firing wrong when it turns, but it's still very impressive animation.
Lex
True! sometimes too much special effects messes up the storyline! i think.
@IWannabeJew Jeez!!! I HAD that mag!!! Totally forgot!!!! I wish I still had it too!!! And Space 1999 bubblegum cards!
This is really good work. Who made it and where did you get these clips?
Because the original models look great and are more physical than some computer animation? Because there is no need to fix that which is not broken?

@riverdale999 You ever notice how it looks like the Numa Numa guy is almost wearing a Year 1 uniform?
@VagianTuerous Now you can get Space: 1999 the series on DVD and enjoy all of the many models and crashes. lol
@riverdale999 Starlog magazine had blueprints of the Eagle in an issue around 1978. Wish I would have safeguarded that. : (

NASA could learn a lot from this ship. Slackers.
Lift Off .. not Takeoff
