I recall from a prior interview he got badly burned investing in Enron and other companies that went bust and that must have influenced his decision (revenge is sweet), but he took quite a gamble thinking it would stay under the radar. Cant believe Phil M. got away so cleanly.
I think Mr. Walters agreed to be the fall guy as he was the guy on the "shady" business in order to keep his relationships strong so as to keep future business opportunities alive.
