Brilliant, excellent video allowing me to be more comfortable before I install my shower door. I have been very hesitant to make holes into my tiles and worried about proper measurement. You make it possible for me to better understand what needs to be done. Greatly appreciated!
Very descriptive video.. installed a shower door a couple of months ago very similar except it was on a fiberglass shower stall...no drilling through ceramic tiles though, and only a single door. Your video provided a couple great hints. Thank you.
Thank you , thank you,..thank you. Your detailed instructions provided me the confidence in being able to do this myself. Once I finish viewing it several more times and taking notes:).
So i just moved into a rental house and i hated calling maintenance whenever i used to live in an apartment. Same applies now in a house. Bob, what a great video. I bought a Kohler door and Lowe's wants $300 to install. You make it look so easy, that I will try to install it myself. Thanks a million!
Thank you so much. I had guys do work on my house and they never finished and they lost all the extra parts for the shower doors along with the instructions. I was so worried I was going to have to buy a new set. Now I can finish it myself!
This was such a help! Our sliding shower door came off of the track and I had no idea how to put everything together! Turns out we were missing the SHOWER GUIDE! Thanks so much for the helpful video!
Thanks, great video. I am installing a shower door this coming December during my Christmas vacation. I had a complete bathroom remodel two years ago this month and it is now time to install the shower door. The new tiles are also porcelain and I wasn't sure how to drill into the tile without damaging it. I'll save this video.
Wow, thank you. The first how to video that goes straight to the fixing without any long drawn out introductions or this is why, what or whatever. Thank you..
I would never have thought to use my diamond-blade tile saw to cut the extrusion. Silly me thought it was just for ceramic tile! Thanks for the how-to, Bob!
Great tutorial!! I was planning to DIY but had no confidence. And I know what to do after watched your video. Thanks for your time to make this video!!
Thanks for this video, can you please put in a comment about all of the material needed to get the exact way install. I don't know what needs to install that door in my bathroom. Thank you
My cheapy doors from home depot didn't have any instructions at all. Your video helped a lot. One thing I had trouble with was the ROLLERS. I installed them on the wrong side of the door. One side is flush with the door, the other isn't. I moved the rollers to the other side and it went right up.
Only tip, if you caulk the inside on the bottom, the water that gets caught in the track won’t run out back into the tub and will be trapped and cause mold over the years. Great video tho !
The is the clearest video I have found - however i have a problem - it's a re-use retrofit and the opening is about 5/8 inch tooo wide - any ideas how to plug that gap - the shower wall is fibreglass. thanks!
I can't recommend how to "rig" something up in all good conscience. I have to give you my straight honest answer. I would recommend getting the correct size to fit your area. That being said I'm sure you may be able to build a wall out to make this work but without seeing the situation I can make no suggestions, sorry. Thanks for watching.
Now after watching this video, I think I can tackle putting in shower doors and save myself money from hiring someone else to do it! Thanks for the video!
It is hard to tell what is wrong with it without seeing it. Might be the track bent or rollers are out of alignment. Not sure who you could call as I fix these things myself. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video.....nice and calm voice.....no *&^%$ music. Thank you very much. I am trying to re install existing three panel ( two sliding... one stationary ) Is there anything I should be aware off? Especially were the corner beam meets the sliding doors ! Thank you again !!!!
great video, but i was trying to figure out how to make shower steamer cheaply, do you think this way would work if I made the glass door to the ceiling and tile the ceiling?
Good video. Would have liked to have seen more on the final caulking of the frame, but other than that, it does help....perhaps it you monitor these comments you can reply with some details on the caulking. Why didnt you caulk both sides of the bottom part of the frame when you laid it down? Do you caulk the entire inside and outside of the frame or can you get away with caulking the inside only? Do you leave any escape routes for water, like you do with with installing retro fit windows? Do you just use your finger or a caulking tool? I have had good luck with the tools made of silicon., but it's been for heavier caulk application on window trims, etc. Thanks.
It is possible to have too much caulk. If you have more than needed it could leak therefore I only caulked one side of the bottom., I did caulk the inside and outside but the only reason I caulked the outside was to give it a finished look, it really does not need to be caulked. No water should be getting into the door so I did not leave a weep hole for water to escape. Generally I do not use anything to smooth out the caulking except my fingers. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
The diamond drill and drill guide came together as a set and can be purchased at almost any DIY store or home improvement warehouse in the flooring department as well as a larger flooring store and amazon. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
Awesome, about to tackle this project and had never done one. Thank you. Very direct and to the point. I subbed also brother. Will check your other videos per project needs. Thank you.
I have tile on bathroom walls. What kind of drill bit would be needed ? Also, I don't have that tool where you put water and use that hole to drill thru. I have basic drill. Do I need to get that tool essentially?
could you please share the details about the door and frame information, where did you buy it from? a link would be of great help! Awesome video, by the way! Thanks
You have to cut the too and bottom track separately. They are usually off a bit but normally not an inch unless there is tile or something else on the bottom and. It on the top. Just do 2 measurements one all the way at the bottom and cut the bottom track to that length and then one where the top track goes and cut it to that length and you should be good. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
No, the tile is installed over concrete board but since I built the shower walls and knew there would be a shower door that I had to install later I made sure to back up the concrete board with wood to give my shower door a solid surface to attach to. This way holds better than the anchors that need to be used if there is no support directly behind the cement board. I hope this makes sense, it is hard to explain without showing you. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing this video. Quick question:If I get someone in my neighborhood to install a basic sliding tub/shower door how much do you think is a fair amount to pay for it ? that is including the job and parts.
What size and shape rollers did you use in this video? It looks exactly like the doors, tracks, etc that came with my used home but there are no rollers to be found anywhere. TIA
Good how-to but, i'd make just one change. The bottom rail should have silicone on the outside part and not inside to make sure that any water that could get under it will go back in the tub and not outside.
Great video mate. Can you please advise me. The width for the shower is 1410mm. As the size is just over the 1400mm retailed in shops can you advise how I go about this?
Thanks. WHY aren’t the side panels flat against the wall? Shouldn’t they just press up flat against the wall and get screwed in? Why leave all that empty space behind it?
Once they are all lined up and plumb they get tightened up and they are pressed against the wall there will be very little gap. Any gaps that there may be will be filled in by caulking. Thanks for watching.
Hi, sir, do you remember the make you installed in this video? I'm missing the guide in 8:58 . How can I get it? Home depot says its custom built. Hope you get this on time
There are many different brands available from any of the big box flooring stores or home improvement stores. I have several of them and I don't remember the brand of the one used in this video. Thanks for watching.
is this in the UK OR USA IF IT IS UK I would like to know where can I get it? Also like know if it comes in mirrors version too? My end is open so I also need something for that too?
6:23 do you have to screw the bottom rail in as well? my bottom rail keeps moving and the caulk cracks and falls apart, the idiots that did the job also cut it about 1/4" to small so it slides to both sides of the wall, they tried to fool me by putting a ton of caulk on both ends but that didn't hold and now I can see the gaps...
If your bottom rail is cut short I feel you will constantly have issues with the bottom rail. The bottom rail should fit tight between the 2 side rails and require only caulking to hold it into place and seal it. All that said you may have a situation that using a screw at this point may be your best option. Hope this help, Thanks for watching.
Ok, what's the name of that plastic tool thingy you used to pour water into for your diamond drill bit? I can't find it online at Lowe's or that other store. Would like to try and look for it elsewhere if I knew the actual name. Thanking you, or anyone else who can answer this, in advance.
The drill? I believe the drill used in this video was a ridgid. Almost any drill will work but I would recommend a diamond bit for tile. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
Do you put some silicone on the bottom where the horizontal and vertical tracks meet? My shower door frames have started to leak at those corners! Thank You
Thanks for the video. Would love to know the brand and model of this door. The bottom track on ours cuts if you bump your foot on it and I'd like to replace it. Might be good to add make/model to the video description since more than one person has asked.
Normally I would add the name butt that is only when the manufacturer donates the parts to me for the video. In this case the shower door was just something that was picked up at the local hardware store, most likely Lowe's. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
As for the brand, it was just something that was picked up at the local hardware store. Don't know the brand but they are all very similar when talking about these basic doors. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you. Thanks for watching.
That sounds dangerous to me. The door could jump off of the track. I would get with the manufacturer of the door and see about getting those pieces. Thanks for watching.
I wish my landlord hired you. They can't even install the top properly. They want to glue it in place and it just came off. Always having the doors come off track.. Tired of messing with it. I finally just took down the doors and am going to use shower curtains....
The black sliding plastic thing (not sure the exact name lol) at the bottom rail is missing from our doors which causes the door to swings at time. Can I get them at stores?
They are door specific so you would usually need to contact the manufacturer for that type of part. Hope this helps answer your question. Thanks for watching.
i rent and my landlord is lazier than me, the glass sliding doors are beyond molded and rusted, the bottom tray acts as a petri dish and so im trying to do it myself because its MY health he does not care about while i do. Could you share an estimate of how much thus cost you so that I know what to charge my landlord?? Thank you!
It would depend on several factors, size being the first and then quality would be second. Here is one that I was able to find, I’m sure there are many many more and other sizes are available but this should get you started. Oxford 54-in to 59-in W x 68-in H Framed Sliding Chrome Alcove Shower Door (Rain Glass) www.lowes.com/pd/MAAX-Oxford-54-59W-x-68H-Framed-Bypass-SH-CHR-Privacy/5001551147

Quick question bob. What if the top and bottom measurement of the tub is off by an inch what do you do the make that track right?

So you installed and tiled over a wood backing as opposed to a concrete board? If so, whats the benefit of this?
No, the tile is installed over concrete board but since I built the shower walls and knew there would be a shower door that I had to install later I made sure to back up the concrete board with wood to give my shower door a solid surface to attach to. This way holds better than the anchors that need to be used if there is no support directly behind the cement board. I hope this makes sense, it is hard to explain without showing you. Thanks for watching.
The instructions says to apply caulk outside (shower) the bottom track, is not this kind of weird? Where did you applied the caulk, in or out? Thanks
It wouldn't hurt to apply caulk all around but there needs to be a way for any water to escape. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing this video. Quick question:If I get someone in my neighborhood to install a basic sliding tub/shower door how much do you think is a fair amount to pay for it ? that is including the job and parts.

1 1/2 the cost of doors
What size and shape rollers did you use in this video? It looks exactly like the doors, tracks, etc that came with my used home but there are no rollers to be found anywhere. TIA

Good how-to but, i'd make just one change. The bottom rail should have silicone on the outside part and not inside to make sure that any water that could get under it will go back in the tub and not outside.

Hi marlo
When you take shower, which door should be closest the shower head?
I would go with the inner if possible. Less chance of it leaking. Thanks for the question.
Where did you get the glass doors and how much?
At the local. If box store. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Hi I can’t do it my self how much does it cost to have professional do it for us ?

I think I missed a step. How did he get the track to attach to the tub? All I saw was some type of glue....
The bottom track is just held in place by the side tracks and silicone the side rails are screwed into the wall.
Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
@@funbro1 Awesome, thanks for clarifying,!
Are the pivoting doors easier to install than sliding doors
Different, but I wouldn't say they are easier. Thanks for watching.
thanks for the great video! Do you have a link to where I can find the guide you are using?
No, I'm sorry I do not. Thanks for watching.
