  • A celebrated figure in television production with over 24 years of teaching at Miami Dade College, Professor Billy Mark Oliver has trained countless students for successful careers at local television stations, national networks and independent production companies.
Dedicated to service learning, Oliver teaches TV production classes at North Campus, frequently taking students out of the classroom to collaborate with nonprofit community partners to produce compelling and powerful programs. Many of the videos went on to win industry accolades, and students often volunteered for their client, continuing the relationship long after the class had ended.
Oliver also champions his students to apply for financial aid and provides letters of support, with many students winning scholarships to help cover the costs of their education.
Applying what he learned during a faculty internship at WPLG-Channel 10 in 2015, Oliver spearheaded a complete upgrade of the School of Entertainment & Design Technology's film and TV capabilities, creating a state-of-the-art studio to train students on
industry-standard equipment and enhance their employability.
Oliver’s relentless efforts beyond the classroom led to an invitation in 2021 from the Florida College System to modernize and rewrite the statewide curriculum for all television production associate degree programs.
A 2013 Endowed Teaching Chair winner, Oliver has experienced some his most profound moments while portraying Santa Claus for the past six years at the Children's Holiday @ North event, where he sees in little children the same bright, selfless qualities as he sees in
    many of his students.
