Cool fill at 1:33, never noticed that before, probably because the bass is low in the mix on Siamese Dream with all the many guitar tracks taking up space
Siamese Dream guitar production killed the cymbals and the bass line. But if you pay attention, you will notice them. Just focus on it. It's pretty weird when you can hear them behind all that fuzzy guitars. Magical, i would say. It blow your mind.
The drums from 3:50-4:00 are great... took me a while to know why that part always pumped me up while listening to the song, well now I finally know it's because of the drum riff there. :D

To me the music itself is like poetry that matches the lyrics perfect. The gritty 70's main rif that lays down the pattern that people can easily follow to make music and get famous. The pop fun chorus is mocking the sweet poppy nature that provides a cover for the more sinister motives of the industry and the emotional plee to "let me out" comes with harsh and pressing chops, denoting the turmoil of realizing that you must now struggle to get out of the comfortable position you have been accepting... Just a random thought.
When instruments are isolated like this, it will sound different from the final mix/master because it's isolated. For example, you won't fully hear the articulation of the bass because the guitars are so massive in the final mix. Some EQ, effects, and compression might be missing here but it sounds like the actual track. Jimmy had such a distinct groove and you can recognize it when you hear it.
well obviously i was doing too much i used to run it through a boss distortion pedal and play the lead high on the neck basically what I'm saying is deciding to play bass ruined my life. don't make the same mistake i did, kids
antstein nietstna i would play like a mid lead that would mimic the melody and for the rhythm parts i would do a lot of wacky fills. i can't read music so i can't elaborate. picking the bass ruined my life because i should've just played guitar like a normal person and it's just good ol shinji from eva
DTay45 Musicians have relative pitch from playing E so often on bass and guitar. Someone like myself has heard an E so often that it's like seeing the color red and knowing it's red. Also, the song is in E, and Billy is mostly just playing root notes on bass since he's not really a "real" bassist.
Well, that is probably not her playing on the recording. It is most likely Billy Corgan. Even if she was playing it, he probably wrote the bassline. So I don’t really agree with the idea that she is eye candy because this is a simple bass line. It is a simple bass line written by an incredible guitar player and great songwriter. It is a bass line that serves the song.
I'm an accomplished bass player of over 30 years..this is a great bassline. It's what works for the song. That is not downplaying the work. It does the job. And drives the song and pushes the guitars to achieve desired classic effect after 30 years. Check yourself. Lol
I don't think this is the real, actual drum track. The snare roll at the beginning sounds like it could be from the actual track, but the rest of the song, the drums have a totally different tone, so it's either not actually Jimmy, or if it is, it's not the final mixdown of the drum track.

Jimmy Chamberlain is my favorite drummer. He's a "rock drummer," but he plays more like a jazz drummer. There's such elegance to everything he does.
Such a pretty bass line and WHAT a drummer!!
Jimmy is a beast
Jimmy Chamberlin is a God.
i love this picture just look how happy Billy is with bass
Those intro snare rolls are brilliant and smooth.
Billy Morello
Bill claypool
Beautiful groove, unique playing. Jimmy chamberlin is an animal. And Darcy’s bass groove is right there the whole time. She looks stunning here too.
I’m almost certain that’s Billy on bass.
It is. He redid all the tracks on Siamese Dream other than the drums I think. @@realheadphonecandy
Billy re-did all the bass himself.

I kinda disagree, the bass is cranked, it's just layered really nicely with the insane (ly good) guitar tones. Butch Vig man...
This still hits so good in 2024 ❤
4:22 plays a major role in the mood of the song ending, with guitars overdriving sustained. Beautiful craft.
So much muff...
great simple bass playing complements this awesome drumming

Don't forget the C and G!

There is no better stylist on the drums than Jimmy Chamberlain.

Jimmy Chamberlin had / has SERIOUS CHOPS
Back in the day i was so dumb to believe that i could practice my snare rolls with the closure of this song...
Thanks.. It is useful for practicing the guitar parts
Exactly !!!
On that thumbnail looks like Freddy Kruger
this song is still amazing without guitar or vocals

That bass line compliments that amazing gat riff instead of just following the gat. Thanks billy
isnt it annoying when someone wants to play the exact same line as another, that is not how arrangement works lol

Justin Guitar?

Billy, Darcy couldn't play

Is this song downtuned to E?
Nope standard tuning.

That's why bass is awesome. Imagine this song with 2 bassist, one could do the lead like you while the other could play the regular bass line.
Can we hear your "previous bassline" cover of this song?

She played this song live around the world and nailed it
I’m a bassplayer and this is a fantastic bassline. Recorded (and probably written) by Billy, but D’Arcy was always amazing playing it live.
Not cool dude they may have had fights but they were all professional musicians and even billy says that
I still say Billy should also played the drums on this album too..lol
He's a very talented musician, but I doubt he's as good as Jimmy on the drums, not many people are!
I don't think this is the real, actual drum track. The snare roll at the beginning sounds like it could be from the actual track, but the rest of the song, the drums have a totally different tone, so it's either not actually Jimmy, or if it is, it's not the final mixdown of the drum track.
According to Butch Vig they mixed in a trigger to beef up the snare hits, so this must be the dry track.
