You joke, but that drumset looks like it belongs to that band and so Jimmy has to adapt to the fewer instruments than he would play on his own drumset.
I agree it’s fantastic. But Jimmy dumbing down the drums wouldn’t make it easier for the kids. Playing it exactly like the album would make it easier for them. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean?
@@phantompunchmotorizedbikes1624 once again, playing devils advocate here, but those decisions weren't made in a vacuum. Empathy means putting yourself in EVERYONE's shoes, not just the cool drummers you may like.
I’m here 3 years later to say, yes she did!! 🙌🏼 I clicked on this because of course, Jimmy, but expected that it would be cringey playing from the students. They really rocked it, especially the girl ripping the solo! Rock on, indeed!
Left foot keeping time on the hi hat like a freaking atomic watch while hands are all over the set. Always a sign of a high quality drummer schooled in jazz. One of the greats. JC.
I always thought mentioning jazz was often an attempt to add credibility where it may not necessarily be deserved.... but I have no doubt regarding the depths of JCs musical palette and what he has absorbed in the process
Singer looks like Billy somewhat! Haha! Billy is a ginger Irishman... Lucky kids got to meet the greatest drummer of all time from my favorite band of all time! The Smashing Pumpkins! SP forever........
What a inspiration, kids nailed it!! And Jimmy still makes it sound like he hasn't played that a million times, he is such a one of a kind, always practicing to be the Best he can be and it shows in so many ways!! This made my day!!
I noticed he played the whole song pretty much without any hands crossing over, he didn't play much cross hands using the hihat , he seemed to prefer the ride cymbal.
This makes me smile knowing the path that Jimmy was on for so many years with his drug problem. It would be such a waste of talent if he wasn’t still here and able to share his gifts with everyone.
This underscores the importance of a good drummer. Everyone was glued together, on time and it never went off the rails. You see so many of these fall apart at the song transitions, but Jimmy had them all chilling in the pocket the entire way through. Great job by all the kids. What an experience for them.
That's the spirit! Playing with the youngsters gives them quite the insight on how it is when the original drummer plays with them. Very very nice Gesture there Mr Chamberlin :)
The kid singing looks like a young Billy Corgan. For what I could hear, he sounded pretty good. I did not expect the girl to play the solo. She did a fantastic job.
KIds faces glowing in awe and joy, smiling, playing with "the real deal" who's both committed and humble, this is what music really is about... Much respect to JImmy Chamberlin.
Lol. I was wondering before I hit play if JC would just blow the sound out and to be fair, even though he looked like he was gonna keep a lid on it, he kinda didn't (my opinion). Anyway it's not as bad as my other fav drummer Stewart Copeland at his 50th. He invited a cover band and then proceeded to blast them so hard I think it making it hard for them to play. I can't post a link but the video is called Stewart Copeland's Birthday Jam! Pt. 1. (Driven to Tears) . It is awesome drumming but jeeeezuz.
Absolute goosebumps watching this! I was lucky enough to meet JC, my biggest drum hero, a couple years back at the UK London Drum Show just before he released his second Jimmy Chamberlin Complex album...they say you should never meet your heroes; man, am i glad i got to meet him! He had all the time in the world for us and was totally down to earth and real... a real cool dude! :) The kids done great here, the young lady who played the solo section towards the end of the song really impressed me, but you were all fantastic! This is what music should be - giving back to the next generation and inspiring them to enjoy one of the greatest feelings in life; the love of playing live music with friends, and the joy of honing your skill on an instrument! Well done one and all, and JC, you just get cooler as time goes by man!
Oh my god, playing along with Jimmy would have been my #1 dream in life when I was a teenager. It's crazy that even though this is probably one of his simpler drum parts for a SP song, it's still far beyond 95% of the rest of rock drumming out there.
I am so proud of those kids for getting in there and committing themselves to music. That song is not necessarily an easy one to play, but they rolled up their sleeves and learned it, then played it at the pace that Jimmy set for it . Awesome job guys, happy to see it.
I am so envious of the UA-cam generation! I had to wait for Chamberlain to play on TV or find VHS bootlegs! Now everything is so accessible. Anyway I'm glad Jimmy has cleaned up and kicking ass! This performance is awesome. The kids are so happy!
I love the fact that he put as much into that performance as he would any Pumpkins show. The guy is a consummate profession, a true musician through and through. Look at all their faces at 4:41. That's what it's all about.
most of these kids have no idea how lucky they are to have been in a room for something like this. they're like "wow... that was cool" and then they'll grow up and learn way more about tons of music and look back and go "ok. that was actually the coolest moment in my entire life."
Jimmy your a legend for doing this, you’re a great human being. What a great performance from them all, love the smiles on the faces. Great stuff lead singer love the passion, lead guitarist you nailed the solo, bass player got the groove and love the thumbs up at the end and guy to right of lead guitarist awesome stuff! 👍👊 you’ve all got big futures as musicians 👏♥️
Wish I could have heard more of the kids. Sounded like they were pretty good, but all I could really hear well was Jimmy and we all know he's going to kill it.
That was so cool! She really nailed the solo too! I can't imagine how awesome it would feel to have an opportunity to play with JC killing the drums behind you. They'll remember this forever.
This is the absolute best. Jimmy is a class act through and through. Not to mention, one of the best drummers ever to sit behind the kit. He can wow anyone at any time with the best of them, but has always preferred to play with emotion and heart instead. Love this guy.
I absolutely ❤ this video!! Jimmy Chamberlain’s intricate little fills and awesome snare rolls drive the Smashing Pumpkins songs and always leave me playing air drums when listening to em. What an awesome, talented, underrated drummer!
it's just so awesome that a rock god like jimmy chamberlin is willing to take time to spend with some kids and jam... he is even more of a rock god for doing this!
"Who is righteous, what is bold!!!" Jimmy is a living legend. Man this was cool for those kids, they can't have any full concept of it...maybe some of their parents did though! 👍
I don't think we have enough guitars in the mix! Lol. Although I heard they dubbed up to 50 guitar tracks in Siamese Dream for that wall of sound effect.
The kids were superb and what a pleasure it was to see Mr. Chamberlein at work.... just crushing that freakin drumkit!! Great job all around, singing and playing at the same time isnt easy and the young man up front did wonderfully considering his youth and experience level. Great tune!!
Everything about this is awesome. Kids nailed it whilst having the time of their lives and Jimmy continues to play and rock it with passion. He's the reason I started drumming and if I could become half as talented as this man I would be very happy :) very lucky kids! Also the singer is the spitting image of Billy. Doppelgänger?
Having Jimmy behind the kit must be like having a jet engine behind you car
If you were one of those kids, you would cherish and remember this for the rest of your life, getting to play with Jimmy.
Seriously. Totally badass
Which one though?
that drummer played it almost perfect
now THAT was funny! lol
Lol yes Jimmy did lol
🤣
He’s got a future in the business 😮
You joke, but that drumset looks like it belongs to that band and so Jimmy has to adapt to the fewer instruments than he would play on his own drumset.
This is actually fantastic. I love how jimmy doesn't dumb down his playing for them.
Thats right.... and those kids get good even quicker for it
pressure makes diamonds baby
Definitely adds to the energy level. Looks like the kids weren’t too concerned with being perfect and instead just went for it.
jazz chops. Chamberlin is a total Jazz drummer. It shows in every part of his technique.
I agree it’s fantastic. But Jimmy dumbing down the drums wouldn’t make it easier for the kids. Playing it exactly like the album would make it easier for them. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean?
Jimmy is officially the coolest person alive. Awesome that he did this.
I just became a serious fan.... Would I love to jam with that dude....
Great gesture, they will all never forget it.
as cool as this video is and as much as I love JimmyJames as a percussionist, I am not sure Jonathan Melvoin's family would agree.......

"atomic watch" lmao dead

It really does help you keep your internal time airtight.
Thats what drew me to pumpkins 25 years ago
Perfectly said! 👍
i am so happy School of Rock provides music education for struggling drummers like this one.
The singer actually looks a bit like young Billy Corgan, right? Amazing video. What a great drummer Jimmy is.
Right
He doessss
Man I’ve been scrolling down just to find the person who commented this. He absolutely does! Except blonde.
I just commented this and asked if it was his son
Singer looks like Billy somewhat! Haha! Billy is a ginger Irishman... Lucky kids got to meet the greatest drummer of all time from my favorite band of all time! The Smashing Pumpkins! SP forever........
I was thinking the same thing. A young Billy Corgan.
+1!!!
The smile on the kids face at 4.20 when Jimmy turns on the power. Priceless.
Neil Harrison that’s when you know musics in your blood
You kids have noooooo idea how lucky you are to have Jimmy in the same room with you guys. Terrific job!
Pretty sure they do.
why do people always say shit like this
The young lady playing the green strat is pretty darn good. Nice job with the solo. Good job by them all.
She smashed it 😅
That girl nailed the solo!!
Girl name??
She sure did
Jimmy locks in….and the comfortable thunder is something to behold.
No s*** first time I saw him drumming on MTV I'm thinking wtf
Relentless bringing it --- dropping the Samsonite 💥
Loved him ever since 👍
He hits his flams with so much power and yet it's all coming from the wrists and fingers. So cool to watch.
Watch and learn from the master,
it's one thing to hear it but it really helps to see it done right.
The amount of power he can generate on the drums with his technique is insane. Powerful but still very relaxed and smooth, incredible drummer.
What a inspiration, kids nailed it!! And Jimmy still makes it sound like he hasn't played that a million times, he is such a one of a kind, always practicing to be the Best he can be and it shows in so many ways!! This made my day!!
at 0:49 when he does the snare fill with one hand...god tier
Yes!
I noticed he played the whole song pretty much without any hands crossing over, he didn't play much cross hands using the hihat , he seemed to prefer the ride cymbal.
The best drummer these kids will ever play with!
Danny Carey from Tool is no slouch either. I loved how both these incredibly talented drummers took time out to jam with younger musicians!
This makes me smile knowing the path that Jimmy was on for so many years with his drug problem. It would be such a waste of talent if he wasn’t still here and able to share his gifts with everyone.
This was the comment i was looking for. This video has so many great things. JC being clean and alive to do it is #1.

Drum students: How many times can you hit crash cymbals in one song?
Jimmy: Yes.

And just imagine...Eddie Vedder hated Dave Abbruzzese for using so many cymbals, which is the best drummer Pearl Jam ever had.
And it fits. Doesn’t feel overplayed.
The grin on the face of the guitarist on the left is great.
0:23 that cymbal hit sent straight to the soul of the lead guitarist. Awesome!
