I received a small aerogarden for a gift and I am trying it out. I’m not doing as good as y’all have done ( part 2 lol) I back to learn more. My favorite carnivorous plant nursery !!
I was thinking about a small desk setup for a Cephalotus and maybe some rosetted sundews (just with a simple LED clip on light and saucer/water method). I don't see how the hydroponics will work with the Nepenthes or Cephalotus. I'd be afraid of them staying too wet. But who knows??? I can't wait for part 2!!! You should make more of these before/after videos. Maybe comparing 2 different ways of propagation like leaf cuttings from a rosetted drosera and putting some cuttings in water and some on top of sphagnum moss and see which yields potting size plants first.
I like the idea of comparison growing methods videos! We are worried that this environment will work short term for the Cephalotus and Nepenthes but long term, it will keep the roots too wet.
I love this method of answering questions! Q: Can I grow carnivorous plants in an Aerogarden? A: Idk, let me grab $100 worth of plants and throw them in and see if they all die I guess? This is how learning happens! Everyone take notes!!
Can't wait to see! I'm also concerned about the substrate, you might have to take care of that. I'm looking at the same thing sorta, (moving indoors) 💖
We don’t currently have plans to reopen for shopping in 2022. We’ve made significant changes to the layout of the nursery to grow more plants and maximize space. There’s not really a space for a sales floor right now. We are working on a plan for tours though!
A cool video that I'd like to see is how you get your plants to your customers. Like follow a plant through the whole process. How do you know when a plant is ready to for shipping/sale? Who updates the website? What you do you do to prepare it for shipping? Your plant prep for shipping inspired me to do something similar for a mature plant cutting of a peperomia that I brought with me in my carry on bag on a plane from San Francisco to LA. The plant totally came through unscathed and I was able to give it to my friend.
Really looking forward to seeing how this works! You could make some amazing displays with some added live moss too. My biggest worry is the substrate getting into the water reservoir, from what I've seen of hydroponic growing, you want to completely clean the roots of substrate as to avoid contamination of disease and mould? But maybe having the water move around and not stay stagnant might help? How exciting!!
Honestly don’t think that would be an issue with carnivores. Have a few bogs constantly in stagnant water and some in pots without drainage for years. It’s probably better for the water to be moving but I think they are more adapted to those gross anaerobic boggy environments than other plants are, especially sundews
@@brycerush98 Ahh thats a really good point, probably a pretty comfortable environment for them then! Need to try my hand at some carnivores and get some experience :) Thanks!
@@tomsims1157 I posted a longer comment on their update video, but I've had my sundews in an aerogarden for a while now and I use a bit of hydrogen peroxide in the water to keep it clean. Also, the aerogarden has a pump that automatically circulates water periodically, so it's not stagnant. In my experience, it's been a great environment for my carnivores!
Was going to say I propagate my pings in sphagnum but I grow them in a more traditional mix. Always wondered how well they would do in sphagnum though. If I were to try this with a ping I would probably put the sphagnum in the bottom and a small layer of ping mix on top
Something on my mind that could be really cool…can you try this with Darlingtonia??? I’m trying to think of a good way to circulate water over the roots and thought this might be a good way to accomplish that.
I’ve wondered that as well! Another grower said that they had removed the lid, filled the bowl with leca and planted it in. I suspect Darlingtonia would love that!
Herbs? Bah! Just another weed. I suppose you could do away with the top and fill the basin with a marble size substrate. Maybe, rinse the roots in a bucket of water to remove the old soil stuck onto the roots. Lots of room for experimentation. Might make for a good chapter if you should write your own book on CP care.

Bwhahaha! Some things are just trial and error or “stuff all these plants in and 🤞”
He does it so you don't have to.
I have a potted nep that is doing very well just placed over one of the holes

If this works just imagine all the cool displays people will come up with!
i got california carnivorus for xmas thx for the fast shiping btw 😁
Woop Woop! Are you guys planning on opening to the public again anytime soon?

Great video! Love your subtle humor. Thank you for all you do. 💫🪴👨🏾🌾🪴💫
I hope this goes well! It would be fun for me to have a variety of carnivorous plants inside my northern home.
Love this channel, but you need a RODE microphone my friend! We wanna hear every word you say!
We break every microphone we get in a matter of weeks 😂🤦♀️ they all just fall apart from the moisture or the sun?! I’m not sure what we do to them!
can you do a video showing how to grow from seed using an aero garden?
You couldn’t grow most of these from seed in the aero garden unfortunately because some need cold stratification and others need increased humidity
I've been dying to try it for a while, how did it turn out?
Very curious about the results
Happy new year!! :p
I am very curious how it all turns out in a couple of months. 👨🔬🍃🍃🤔

How is it the Nepenthes wouldn’t get root rot ?
We were surprised by this too! The Nepenthes we planted in this aerogarden is still going strong and it’s been a long time!
Nepenthes can sit in water? I have an aero garden. I’m going down to plant mine now.
We don’t normally let Nepenthes sit in water but the Nepenthes in our Aerogarden are still going strong so it’s a great way to grow them!
Do all of the cells need to be filled or do you think just having two or three plants would be okay
You could just have a few cells planted!
So how did they end up? I’m super curious, as I grow all my plants hydroponically but would love to add Carnivorous plants.
We can definitely recommend this model of Aerogarden! They are thriving!
Always sus about an April 1st upload
Bwhahahaha I didn’t even realize it was April Fools 🤣🤣🤣 do all of Damon’s terrible herb jokes count April Fools worthy?

Did you use distilled water? Or tap?
We use distilled water!
@@California_Carnivores thank you
So I want to do this myself! What kind of moss did you use is it on your website?
We use long fibered New Zealand sphagnum moss 😊
would d.filiformis do well in an aerogarden?
They would for a while but they will eventually want a chilly winter dormancy!
