WWE WrestleMania 21, also known simply as WrestleMania 21 or Wrestlemania XXI, is a professional wrestling video game released on the Xbox game console by THQ. It is based on WWE's pay-per-view event of the same name. It is also the successor to Raw 2. The game was the last WWE game released to the original Xbox. - Ігри
I actually got in touch with the legendary John Tobias who was the head director and lead designer of Studio Gigante about this game and Tao Feng: Fist of The Lotus. He gave me a lot of very interesting information. He admitted the game was VERY rushed. The create a wrestler mode was going to be MUCH bigger than what we got. The reason why the game had a majority of one vs one matches apart from tag team and fatal 4 way was because of time constraints. He did want to implement it but couldn't. There was NO QA testing done on the game either, which is why the constant ring movement glitches and poor collision detection happened. So yeah.
I still remember like it was yesterday on day one buying this game on release date at GameStop.
5 hours later I was returning it back for a full refund but only gotten 25$ in store credit.😢
The Gamestop experience in a nutshell.
The developers only made two games, but the programmers behind it previously made Mortal Kombat, WWF Wrestlemania The Arcade Game and went on to make WWE All-Stars.

The graphics were amazing at the time, but after you play through story mode once, it's a shelf hanger.
In my opinion the order of good games of original Xbox wwe games are Raw 2, Wrestlemania 21, and Raw
It seems as the Xbox had hardware supiriority over the PS2, but the PS2 to this day has the better games library.

Yes that is one major reason why ps2 sold 150 million consoles to xbox's 25 million.

Yes it did mainly because the Playstation was out years before since 1995 by the time Playstation 2 came around the Playstation 2 was very well established and that's the reason it got access so many exclusives Xbox was just starting out game developers didn't have a deal with them Playstation outselling Xbox was a given Micrsoft knew that------- however the Xbox 360 vs Ps3 era was much different the 360 sold very well and both consoles sold 77 million which was bad for sony since last gen it wasn't even close. Most people I knew had a 360 I didn't know many people who were on Ps3 the online was always superior to Sony and the Xbox controller was much better especially on shooters that and some great excluvies online multiplayer was the best for 360/
I actualy liked this game, maybe because i was a young 10yr old at the time, who was just happy to play this...
Same happens to me with SvR06. Idk how I was able to play it back then with the reversalfest and the clunky controls

story mode in this game was amazing
The only reason I purchased this game on its release date was because I actually went to Wrestlemania 21. I played it once and it's been sitting on my shelf ever since.

If They made RAW 3 with these same graphics and had The Dame game play as raw 2 but more smoother, I would be playing this game from time the time till this day
The disappearing ref is a nice touch.
Ironic that Big Show has the highest stamina rating given how easily he got fatigued at the time irl
jeez man, after watching you're review, you got me thinking I was the only person to enjoy this game, I remember playing this around Christmas time, I was really good with the controls, I guess that's why I had so much enjoyment with it, the only thing I can seem to remember not liking, was undertakers entrance being way too long, but hey love you're videos man, keep doing what you do.

Raw 2 has its issues, but even Raw 2 looks like No Mercy in comparison to WM21...Shame the SVR2005 soundtrack wasn't in Raw 2 instead.

Hell they did it with wm2000, in the game it was wm15, wm2000 is wm16 for those who don't know
I used to love this game it was so much easier to beat wrestlers on it than the wrestling games that r out today lol
Honestly this game doesn’t really look bad graphically. Actually good. I always felt with games past HCTP the always look so dark. This looks realistic but also colorful at the same time
The biggest problem with the game was you couldn't use your move set if you were outside of the ring. Every wrestler was stuck with a very limited move set like a bodyslam. It made putting someone through the roof of the Hell in a Cell not satisfying at all.
Was so hyped for this game. Got it on release day. So buggy and unfinished. Ended up selling it to a friend. I'm sorry Dave.
I remember day 1 glitches and they sent a patch to make things playable. Also there was a way to enable Goldberg in this game.
I wanna say thank you man your videos have made me wanna start gaming again and to re buy some of my old favorite wrestling games. I stopped gaming about a year ago cause of the decline in great video games now I am looking to get back into it and buy some of the games I grew up on and it is all thanks to videos like yours man. Keep the great content coming I enjoy your work alot.
lol i remember getting this, popping it in, and being so disappointed and in disbelief with how unfinished it felt. And I was very easy to please when it came to wrestling games. I might have played this twice before trying to sell it.
The Xbox was such a great experience and time to be playing

NikateeN Raw 1 was the worst
I agree about the volume levels. I can't stand it when a game does that. Played too many with fluctuating volume's.
Cut scene will be so soft you can't hear shit and then bam you're deaf in next scene.
Some times a game will have different sliders for volume's but unfortunately most of the time they won't fix the issues.
Fun fact: In the game's arena selection, it almost has every PPV from 2004 except Survivor Series & Armageddon.

Oh man, I know this game seems really bad in the gameplay department, but I really want to try it one day. I don’t know why. I think it might be because of the time period of the game, which was ruthless aggression. And considering this was my twin cousins’ favorite wrestling game on the OG Xbox, I might call them up when I get it.
If that’s your favorite era of wrestling, then this could possibly appea to you. I know that WCW Nitro and Thunder are regarded as bad games but because that was my favorite era of WCW, I rather enjoy them.

I remember when I first bought this game the company that made it apologized for releasing the game with glitches and that they would pay for you to ship your copy back for a replacement that was supposed to fix the glitches. Got it back and it was still glitchy as anything. It was just the game period.
Yeah! I thought i was the only one who remembers that. Shipped it out, got it back, and it was even worse. The altBig show with different hair was a hidden character but already unlocked, game would freeze during replays. Ai would endlessly spam stomps and not pin so you'd have to reset. I was so pissed
@@silveredgrunion7196 Yeah for sure it was embarrassing for the company to try and pretend that there was glitch in the game and that they would send you the improved version. The game in general was a glitch. Xbox didn't ever have a good wrestling game. It's sad when you look back and you remember the big press conference with Bill Gates and The Rock announcing Raw and what a disappointment that game was and then Raw 2 which a lot of People speak highly of because of all the creative options and things you could do that were really good ideas but the gameplay was garbage so what's the point. Wrestlemania 21 was the final chapter and it was just another disappointment. After that it was on to the Xbox 360 which is the Xbox console so far. They made all the right moves with that system, releasing first and getting a head start while the PS3 had all these issues with delays for hardware and software and then the crazy $700.00 price tag. Xbox 360 was the only next gen system to get Smackdown vs Raw 2007 in 2006 and that was the right move getting the Smackdown series on the Xbox. Sadly though that's the only wrestling option we get now when it comes to the WWE and the game is so stale but they keep sticking with the same developers. Even though there won't be a WWE game this year it sounds like they are still sticking with 2K. They should get Syn Sophia formerly AKI to make the next game before AEW actually gets anything going because who knows when that game will actually get done.
@@dannythedon82 yeah i thought raw 2 was terrible when the bell rang. The a.i. was clumsy and everything lacked any kind of impact. Yes you could create anyone even current tna guys at the time like abyss and aj styles with realism, once you left the create suite, it was all over.
And the best wrestler on the xbox that i STILL play , is Legends of Wrestling 3. Yes its got issues but fun ones, the gameplay moves along just fine and even speeds up at the right times. The commentary...i am STILL finding gold i hadnt heard before from bobby heenan. I did a match with Sid vs King Kong Bundy and Heenan was talking trash, Schiavone said "brain would you cut it out" and brain said something like "sshhh dont say that around Sid" (referencing Sids past with scissors)
@@silveredgrunion7196 yeah I remember Legends Of Wrestling Showdown had the craziest roster of pretty much any wrestling game plus they all had 4 ring attires that were all great. The graphics were even good but the one name that all you need to know that's it was too good to be true was Acclaim. I had all the Legends of Wrestling games. I got the very first one for Christmas 2001 when I also got my Playstation 2 and then I got part 2 the very next year around Christmas in 2002. I Found the first 2 played a little better than the 3rd and even had some better options but the roster in Showdown was what was so appealing. I just wanted and hoped it would be the wrestling game I was desperately seeking but it was pretty disappointing. I still own my copy but I sold part 1 & 2 a long time ago or actually I think they were stolen from me. Anyways All of them had some good ideas to them and the gameplay wasn't the worst especially for the first 2 but I felt for th 3rd which should of been the best with the crazy roster took a step back and that was the last one. I just haven't enjoyed wrestling games since Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, Smacked Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes The Pain. No Mercy is probably the best but I didn't play it until some years later as the N64 was pretty much done around that time and Playstation 2 came out. I Pray we will get the wrestling game we have longed for but it really depends on the WWE understanding and actually listening to what the fans want.
Hey Nik. Nice vid, man. I recently fired this game up and I can't believe I'm saying this but it really isn't as bad as I used to feel it was. I was so spoiled by other great wrestling games that I held this game to their standard instead of enjoying this for what it was. I've played worse games like War Zone and Attitude! 😎

I’ll never understand why anyone would have s problem with the arena being dark. Back when wwe actually did The the arena looked bigger, it looked like there were a lot more people there. The in ring stuff looked better because it was the focus in the light. It just gave wrestling that “look” it needed.
The arenas are way too bright now. There’s screens on literally everything and everything is lit up all the time. It just looks smaller

How about the biggest fail of them all that they pretty much called it "Wrestlemania 21" and developed whole year before Wrestlemania 21 happened released 20 days after and didn't even have the correct logo or stage because they couldn't predict it! it was a pointless game the only thing ahead of its time was the graphics and the fact your titontron played on all the screens like real life.
Same with wrestlemania 2000 but that was a great game

had they done Raw 3, with WM 21 featured in Career mode, we'd of had a better game. WM 21 is like wcw backstage assault, the graphics are hammy and controls are like attitude to an extent

xbox 360 came out and a lot of devs stopped working on the original xbox after that. plus, the ps2 sold really good even well into the next gen, making it profitable to continue publishing games for the console into the 2010s

the term "heat" refers to reaction from the crowd. It isn't exclusive to heels. It is a generic term for getting cheered or booed by the crowd, meaning to get them where you want them.

Great Review! Glitchy Game? Tell me about it? Did you forget that Studio Gigante actually released the wrong game the first day and there was no ONLINE gameplay?! HAHA They weren't sure how they were going to fix but MS worked with them and we received a big patch to fix this stupid omission!

Undertaker's entrance was horror story. Like everyone jokes that he has the slowest entrance but Wrestlmania 21 had one that took 30 minutes! The game was so slow that it made me unstoppable when playing with my older brother. (Because he would try the same move over and over.) He would use The Oklahoma Slam that had the longest set up and the biggest reversal rate because it was so slow. Would piss him off so much.

Ik this video is 5yrs old. But you didn't bring up the fact. A lot of folks miss this game was the beta version as studio gigante released a. Betta disc the did. A recall made everyone send it back. To be fixed. It fixed a lot of problems but left many too, like example back of box says custom soundtracks can be used. Yet. No where can they be accessed lol
