What actually happened to the days Hollywood actually had original ideas
Mad Max: Fury Road and Kingsman aren't original ideas.
Evan Carr fury road is original and kingsman is very loosely based on the comic

They should have not taken too much of a risk with the actors. Bodhi for me, has to be an actor who has charisma and is very likeable so easily Chris Hemsworth.
They already made a Point Break remake. It was called The Fast and The Furious.

Bad performances in the trailer? Bad performances? Did you actually see the original Point Break?
Isaac Ruthen Reeves and Swayze had a style and charismatic charm that perfectly fit their characters. I don't think we'll get that with this new flick.
theFLICKpick Charisma and good acting are two different things. If you're saying these new dudes don'y have the charisma of Swayze and Reeves then I'm with you
Isaac Ruthen Charisma goes long way when it comes to acting. If anyone else played Johnny Utah or Bodie, the film would have been forgettable, but the natural likability of Reeves and his chemistry with a better actor like Patrick makes the film.

I'll be honest, I had seen the first hour like 15 or so years ago on like WGN I think, and had no idea what movie it was. Then years later I saw "Hot Fuzz" and in that movie Simon Pegg and Nick Frost talk about and watch "Point Break" at the scene when Utah fires his gun up in the air. I got a copy and it immediately took a special place for me probably most of all because it oozes 90's nostalgia, in its look and tone, back to how movies were and felt back then. Add to that Gary Busey and Patrick Swayze, who are icons that personify that exact nostalgia I'm talking about.

I've seen the original. What this trailer was missing from the start was that cool vibe of the original that visually added to the overall experience. You are right this looks like it was filmed on rainy days
When he showed that picture of not Bodi about to fall over a waterfall, I got Robocop flashbacks to when the guy falls out the window and his arms are extended.

Thoughts on the big trouble in little china remake? Never seen Point Break nor the carpenter movie, so this remake doesn't rustle my jimmies as much as everybody else's.
Preach on my brother! PREACH ON!!! On a side-note, I don't know if I'm entirely thrilled with them remaking Big Trouble In Little China with Dwayne Johnson at the forefront. I like me some DJ, but I dunno if he can top Kurt Russell's over the top Jack Burton!!

Hey so did anyone ever see the fan remake of robo cop before that new one they made and if you want to watch it Google our robo cop remake and see which is better it's a good laugh and a reminder of what movies were.
John this is all my opinion. I started watching you about a year ago maybe more or so. I do not think you are the best movie reviewer, even though I agree on what most you say. But, after I watch one of your videos, there is a smile on my face. You are super clever and funny on your reviews, I wish you had more videos out. Thanks for making a review channel that will also give me laughs.😉

Hi John, I respect your opinion, and in some part i agree, is not the best trailer, but i have to say, Edgar Ramirez (Bodhi) is a great actor if you don't know him, he has worked in; "The Bourne Ultimatum", "Domino", "Vantage Point", "Carlos", "Wrath of the Titans", "Zero Dark Thirty", "Deliver Us from Evil" and the upcoming film with Mr. Robert De Niro "Hands of Stone". So it is a total lack of respect on your part about it, so if you do not know what he has done.. And yes is from Venezuela like me. And please sorry for my english.

When an actor passes away I always go buy and/or watch one of there movies in memory of them. Sad to say I didn't discover Point break til 2009 when Patrick passed away, but I freaking loved it!!! It was a great bonus that Keanu was in it too! Just a fun fantastic movie....now I'm gonna go watch the trailer for the new one 😣

Exactly.
And when you think about it, Bodhi in the original Point Break did a lot of bad stuff,
everything from robbing banks, to taking Johny Utah's girlfriend hostage and having
one of his guy's hold a knife to her throat, to even killing a cop during one of the heists.
But... he was still likeable right up to the moment he died on the wave.
And that all has to do w/ Patrick Swayze's charisma as an actor, something that the actor playing Bodhi in this remake I can almost guarantee will not replicate/pull off.
I think perhaps you should watch the featurette for it. Even if you don't change your opinion on the remake, it'll *keanu reeves voice* definitely, change your view of it. Maybe it'll loosen you up a bit too, you never know.

I share your frustration and indignation! Why oh why sully the memoy of Point Break? To my endless horror I've heard murmurs about another cult movie is due to a remake, namely "Jacob's Ladder". (An early Tim Robbins film, from 1990.)
had to reread this title. At first I thought you were talking about the Original Point Break. I was thinking noooooo.... but it's all good I am the biggest fan of Point Break. By the way I love your shirt!

You should update your 'Top 20 Favourite Movies Of All Time' list.
The one possible saving grace is Theresa Palmer (i.e. the only person actually SURFING in the trailer) She can act and handles action scenes very well.
Point Break is one of my greatest cinematic memories from my youth too. Several years later I saw the movie on DVD with a friend and I realized two things: The action in the movie goes kind of slow and the scene when Johnny Utah jumps off the plane - actually a James Bond rip-off - it's physically impossible since the pull from the parachute when opening would be too strong for Johnny being able to keep holding Bodhi. My friend told me: It is a great movie but you've seen a lot of movies since 1991.
If you are of the opinion that Keanu Reeves is the perfect Johnny Utah it is because he is the only Johnny Utah you've ever seen. I believe the movie is going to be great, they have a different angle at criminality because we are living in a different time. Do you still believe in cool criminals that are actually good guys with dreams?
I've seen the actors in some other movies and they deliver, Teresa Palmer is definitely awesome, she has not been in as many movies as I would like.
The movie is not about usual criminals, the bad guys are more like anarchists and their interest is not exactly the money. Its great that they put a lot of different extreme sports since it adds action to the movie and interesting environments.
Reasons everyone hates the trailer:
- I liked the original
-Swayze was sick
-Wahh unknown actors
-I'll see it so i can complain in more depth
"You know Bhodi, you crossed the line - people trusted you and they died, bro..." This will always be the better line. It sums up that film perfectly. People wanted to follow Patrick because he was super cool.

I've also noticed in remakes, often they think they're being original by changing the HAIR COLOR of the protagonists. Like that makes it different and original. In the original POINT BREAK, Johnny Utah had brown hair and Bodhi had long blonde hair. Now in the remake it's reversed. In CARRIE, the good and bad girl (Sue Snow and Chris) have brown hair and blonde hair. In the remake, it's reversed and now Sue Snow is the blonde. Same thing when they adapted LET THE RIGHT ONE IN into the American LET ME IN. Do people think this is enough to distinguish from the originals, or that it's even appropriate to do so?
It was never about the money....tell Hollywood that.

Watched this for the first time last week!!,it was a great movie. I really enjoyed it. Reeves was his usual hot self though I thought Ted was gonna pop outta him a few times during some dialogue on the beach. Lol. Swayze was awesome as Bodhi. And I loved Bodhi's character too. Just didn't understand why he went for the vault when they never did in the past. I suppose he knew it was their last hit but they could've made that more obvious.
So, while it was a good film, I REALLY don't see why they has to remake it. It looks BLAND, BLAND, BLAND. Why didn't they just make this another movie instead of a remake? I don't think I'll be wasting my time on this movie.
Now, off to watch American Psycho. Yeah, watching all your faves. I need to catch up on iconic movies I've missed. Can you believe I just watched all the Mission Impossible movies this year??? At least my 6 year old enjoyed it with us and it was great point out aussie buildings that appeared in the movie (amp building) when we were in the city on the weekend. Xx

Hey man, I didn't know that you are so much passionate about Point Break. Me personaly, I like the movie, I think is a fun, interesting, cool movie, but I don't think it should be remade, because Point Break is a 90's product. And also, really entertaining video man :D

How the hell could it be awesome? Big Trouble in Little China is such a unique and unusual film. If it was remade it would just be hollywood-ised with over the top CGI. Plus no one on earth could replace Kurt Russell. There is no fucking way in which it could be awesome.

I completely agree, John. I have no hope for this film. It could be good if it had no connection to Point Break. Some of these film makers today in trying to do these remakes have no friggin clue what made some of these movies ala Poltergiest & Point Break so great in the first place. Major disapointment.
Watch the trailer for Dawn Patrol with Scott Eastwood. That movie doesn't look great either but it looks more like a remake of Point Break than the actual Point Break remake does!

Looks like an attempt to start a fast and furious type franchise
the only person who would've been capable of playing Bhodi was Heath Ledger, with his death the possibility of a half decent point break remake also died
the villain in this isn't a killer, he doesn't kill anyone in fact, I seen it today. its one of the worst movies ever. also they both jump off the cliff near the end and fall into the water. Villain vanishes then Jonney finds him trying to surf a giant wave to complete his weird bucket list that the movies all about. The movies about these athletes trying to complete 8, which is 8 trials of human endurance which has a reward for the earth at the end of each one.....sort of. Lime in the trailer you see trucks rolling down a mountain in a landslide. Well that's cause the guys blew up a bomb causing a massive land slide which hits the trucks carrying lots of raw gold and berries it all, therefore returning the gold back to mother earth. Its a horrible movie. Youl understand all iv said when you see it.
I love the original! one of favourites growing up! Just saw the trailer then. It doesnt look too bad if it was a stand alone film! My biggest problem with the trailer is ... where are the Ex Presidents??? Those masks during robberies were so cool! Plus, no Patrick Swayzee as Bodie doesnt seem right! I will go into Point Break as a seperate movie! That way i might enjoy it ... but still, its not a bad trailer but looks like a movie that is making its money off the title only!

First of all, the reason that he said they might be extreme athletes is because only one of those events have happened so far in the movie. Second of all, the trailer might not be good, but the actual movie is, so I suggest you see it when it comes out.

I thought the same thing as you, exactly. Weird. I felt it was like an advert for extreme sports, they picked two leads which are soooo soooo bland, and the whole feel of the original was completely lost just for the sake of making a remake. You're right. It could have been named anything other than point break. Good review.

I agree, however Edgar Ramirez really is an impressive actor. Has a lot of work under his belt (good and bad) and he's going to be in David O'Russell's new movie this fall.... But yeah I don't really have hope for this at all. Looks like another one of those well shot but bland and uninteresting action movies.

There's something about this films existence that makes me really confused. It just feels so odd.
Point Break isn't one of my favorite movies ever, but I do love it. And there have been previous remakes that were more sacrilegious...but something about THIS one is just....so damn weird.
