- Carlingford Catchment | Newry Canal
Season: 1st Jan - 31st Dec
Species: Pike, Roach, Bream and Perch
This is a summit level canal with several locks designed to lift barges over the watershed between Newry and the Lough Neagh basin. The locks lie open today and there is a flow of fresh water through the canal. On the lower sections there is substantial weed growth. The canal is controlled by Newry and Mourne District Council. A permit is not required for this water - although an angler must hold a Loughs Agency rod licence.
My family is from Donegal but fishing in " The North ' ( as
they always call it ! ) is much better run and managed .
Fish numbers are drastically down in many loughs and rivers. Over fished I think in many places. ? Great contrast in scenery : green glens and trees in Antrim / Armagh and
mountains and moors in Donegal . Amazing in both places.
When are you Going to do a video of the river faughan can you let us know thanks??
Hi Alan - we have a few new videos to release over the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for the Faughan one which will be released in April.
