      That's cool to hear. I just bought the m100 masters and I'm hoping they have that type of longevity. My XB500s are staticky in the high treble and needed a replacement.

    I already bought the m100 and testing this for a few days now and so far I am satisfied on how they sound. For people out there who really just want to enjoy listening there music I can recommend you getting yourself v moda m100s. The bass is fascinating, can handle the lows and sub -lows with ease. Mids and highs are clear and crisp, though mids a little veiled, just a tad at least for me but not a deal breaker. Overall I really love the audio quality, fit and comfort, and the killer looks.

    Guarantee you would be very happy with either these M-100's or the V-Moda Crossfade LP's. I was about to purchase the Crossfade LP's but was fortunate to meet Val and he gave me the M-100's. Had I bought these for $310 I know I would be just as satisfied with what I recieved for my money.

    Today I received a pre-owned pair of these M-100 headphones from Amazon. I have no knowledge if the prior owner burned-in the speaker, but these things sounded great to me right out of the box. I listened to some Al Hirt's New Orleans Jazz Music with his Trumpet and Up-Right Bass. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the sound from these V-M M-100s. If you like the sound of a good up-right bass, you'll love the sound from these headphones However, I did hear some errors in the recording. I play the trumpet and yes, I majored in Music some 45 years ago.

    The confusion is there are two types of momentums with the smaller one being a dull letdown. The vmoda has a slight recessed part in mids because of the bass and treble sparkle. This is a very very sweet and fun sounding headphone and a keeper over most others even everything coming out as they have the perfect signature.. Juicy is the best analogy.. You cannot help but love the sound regarldess and that's what music is all about .. Enjoyment :)

If you get them you will not be disappointed and I also do not hear the echo when I listen to slower paced music. It doesn't sound like an empty room to me! Overall these are very nice

  • @PHIplaytesting
    @PHIplaytesting 5 років тому +1

    The low end on these is quite "boomy." It's not just that there's a lot; the emphasis is clearly on the upper bass frequencies and much less on the subs. I don't find this to be a good thing, but it hardly ruins the headphones.
    The other clearly emphasized area is the upper mids/lower treble. Nothing "harsh" about it but it makes things sound rather "forward;" IMO it makes things sound (slightly) less balanced and spacious, instead of everything in their place. But I was surprised to find TONS of detail in that upper mid range, like really razor sharp, which is great to hear. It's not entirely surprising since that area is not only emphasized by the phones but it's also where our ears are most sensitive, but of course there's a little more to it than that to achieve that nice crystal clarity. Soundstage is a little boxed in but they are closed headphones so it's to be expected.
    I was surprised by how uncomfortable these were for me. They're heavy and I found they did not distribute pressure well. My head is probably on the smaller side, and from first putting them on I felt annoying pressure at the center of the (poorly padded) headband. Adding somewhat to the annoyance was the fact that the phones creak a little when you move your head around and the cable is microphonic i.e. you can hear it clearly in your ear when it rubs against anything.
    I hate the case. You have to really cram the headphones in to even close the thing, and there's no easy way to shove the cable in there with it (which also must be removed from the headphones to fit at all). The worst part is storing the headphones in this way permanently distorts the headband into an ugly shape.
    The customizable shields is genuinely really cool, though it's not cheap. Also (adding to the cost) the XL pads are mandatory, for fit and sound quality. These headphones seem like they were made for the XL pads and then they put smaller worse pads on there so they could sell the XL pads extra.
    Unfortunately I did not fall in love with these headphones but soundwise they are very detailed with plenty of oomph in the low end, a bit unbalanced but nothing sticks out as outright bad. You could do worse for sure.

    I have the LP2, and although they aren't tight as some others, they're not too easy to shake off your head. For drumming, they'd probably be fine. As a guitar player, I like using the HD-25 because those things clamp onto your head like a vice (in a good way) and have the perfect amount of isolation. I had to extend the cable, though.

    I had the same question too. Both Momentum and M100 are not sold in store where I live. So I can only go by reading reviews online.
    I ordered the M100 yesterday from ebay but I am still wondering if I've made the right choice. I know it all depends on the music you listen to. And these are what I'm listening to atm:
    Radiohead - In Rainbows
    Silversun Pickups - Neck of the woods
    Ben Howard - The Burgh Island
    Rudimental - Home
    Daftpunk - R.A.M.
    Hopefully the M100 will work well with them

    Just got this pair based on your review and indeed the sound quality on these headphones is very very good.
    One thing though, they are not a basshead delight. I got another pair of Sony xb650 and those have more bass but the bass on the v-moda is cleaner and a bit more precise. Hip-Hop/Rap fans go for Sony, you will not be disappointed.
    However, i tested some 'classics' on the V-Moda, like:
    - ACDC - Highway to Hell, Thunderstruck, TNT
    - Guns n' Roses - Paradise City
    - Shostakovich - The Second Waltz
    - Greenday - Boulevard of Broken Dreams
    Man, do you rediscover music with this pair. The second waltz gave me goose bumps, so nice to listen to.
    To mention that i used them with an external soundcard ( Creative Sound Blaster OMNI ). Of course is nowhere near as good as a headphone amplifier but is way way better than any onboard soundcard.

    I bought m80s a year ago, been through rain, snow, sleet, hit by a car, dropped from a speeding bicycle, stepped on, sat on, thrown around, borrowed by a coworkers, friends, my brother (which bought his own pair), and they still sound as good as the day I bought it (better since I had to break it in first).

  • @miceblue425
    @miceblue425 12 років тому

    They are laid-back relative to the bass and treble. It's in his written review, and many people on Head-Fi agree that the mids are not the M-100's strong point.

  • @Elburion
    @Elburion 10 років тому +1

    Tried these out at a Brookstone store, they were surprisingly comfortable and had a great sound. I have some AKG K550's which I use to make electronic music, but they don't quite fit my head as much as I'd like so I have to clamp down to really hear the bass, usually I end up having too much bass in a song and have to re-adjust it after I hear it over speakers. After about 30 minutes to an hour they really start becoming uncomfortable to wear because of my glasses. I know people say the M100's shouldn't be used as reference headphones, but I was hoping for a second opinion. Something to add to my arsenal and not necessarily discontinue using my AKG K550's entirely, but I wouldn't mind using the M100's as my primaries if possible. Any input would be appreciated!

    I'm glad you compared them to those sony's I had those exact sony headphones and LOVED them, they broke years ago but now m 100's are on the way to me ! That makes me excited and I'll come back with my own preference between the two

    • @keithscull8288

      +rebecca lista Nice wow this is old but I really do love the M100's. Since I had mentioned those XB500's, the xb500's are quite a bit more bassy than these, but given the price most people would assume the vmoda's are in a different LEAGUE than those XB500's of which you can find on display in some best buys next to the overhyped beats br dr. dre... But the whole overall sound is MUCH cleaner and more clear, more crisp highs, I would like a bit more mids I agree that mids are slightly recessed as everyone says, but it's minute if you're into a bass heavy set of cans. The frequency range beats about everything out there at 5 - 30,000 kHz

    • @keithscull8288
      @keithscull8288 8 років тому

    • @AlexRaEU
      @AlexRaEU 11 років тому +1

      you saying, that the momentums are better balanced already tells that youre not really an audiophile.. the momentums are headphones kind of only for mp3s on your phone or ipod. they have really weakened trebble and stronger base and support more low end music and music files.

    • @TheMajestikGamerChannel
      @TheMajestikGamerChannel 11 років тому

      Alex Ra
      it's funny you say that because the Momentum's have incredible mids and rich, bright treble. The bass isn't "head shaking" heavy, but it makes itself known very well. If you look up reviews on them they are aimed towards "travelling" audiophiles that want something that sounds great, looks good and is portable (for their balance and considering their price range/similar competition)
      V Moda's are more aimed at casual enthusiasts that enjoy pronounced bass as a priority and not a wide variety of mixed genres.

    First off, great reviews. I watch all of them even when I'm not in the market for new headphones. I think your reviews are as good as a headphone review can be, no fluff just straight to the facts and your opinions and insight on the headphones. I like the non-bias you show in your reviews. Keep up the great work man! I read and watch tons of your reviews and they have helped me in making decisions in the past on which headphones I was going to buy.
    I have a question though, how large is the headband on these? I want a bassier yet clear headphone, I own the Sennheiser hd598 and hd598 cs (the cs version are actually my partner's which she uses a lot otherwise I'd be using these as my daily). The cs version has a smaller/tighter headband that fits me perfectly where the hd598s headband is too wide which makes for an awkward fit. They're not unwearable per se, but the fit is funny because I try to make the headphones only 2 clicks/notches down from the smallest and this makes them ride up a bit on the bottom of my ears but if I put them to 3 clicks/notches they feel quite big and if I shake my head at all or look downwards and move my head a bit they will fall off. I've tried gently bending them but this doesn't work very well as they just bend at the very top making the top of the headband pointier. If I put them on and hold down the sides closer to my head they fit perfect but obviously I can't always wear them with both hands clasped on teh side of my head lol. From what I've read/seen in reviews the sound part of the m-100s seems to be perfect for what I'm looking for. Just wondering about the fit though. My ears are small so I wouldn't need XL pads I think other than maybe for a comfort upgrade since they seem to be deeper and plusher and everyone suggests them. I'm just really worried about the problem I have with how wide headbands are on headphones. My audio-technica m50xs were also way too wide, much wider than the hd598's though, actually because they were so wide and not very cushioned like the hd598s, I had to get rid of them because they only really touched the top of my head and would create a pressure point there to the point of my scalp being red from irritation after wearing them for extended periods of time (like 2-5 hours +). If anyone has the m-100s and could let me know what they think of the size or even better compare them to another headphone I may have tried that'd be awesome. In the past for over-ear headphones I've owned the AT- M50xs, Fostex T50rps, Senn hd598 & 598cs, and AKG K7XX. The K7XX's again I LOVED the sound, but the pads and headband were massive for my head and I couldn't keep on wearing them. Another plus to the m-100s is the boompro mic compatibility. I also game and atm using a mod mic 5.0 on my hd598s but Im looking for a less neutral more "fun" or warmer/bassier headphone that also fits my small head. If the m-100s headband is a quite wide please let me know, as I'm in the market for a new warmer, bassier or "fun" headphone but my options are limited because of size. The K7XX's were perfect in terms of sound but alas my tiny head doesn't allow me to wear them, if anyone has any other suggestions I'm open to them as well. I'd mostly be wearing them inside so open are fine too, although again looking for warmth, bass and "fun" not neutrality. Budget is about $300USD, a little over/under is fine though too. /Cheers!

    Hi there Tyll, nice to see you enjoyed a pair of headphones that aren't audiophile, even though I am an audiophile myself and also a dealer for Burmester electronics. I was surprised you didn't like the B&W P3, even though they do have a tilted spectrum reproduction, the fidelity is outstanding for a 200 dollar headphone, much more detailed than the P5, Focal Spirit one, and many others in the 300 dollar range. How would you compare the M-100 to the P3 in terms of refinement in sound? Thanks!

    I recommend keeping the volume low and a break every 30-40 minutes so you don't hurt yourself.
    Please let me know what you think and enjoy.

    Thanks for the great review!
    I am currently using an HD25-1 II, but I am a bit disappointed with its bass extension after being told that it was very bassy. Do you think the V-Moda M-100 is a worthy upgrade for someone craving deep extension along with clarity? I don't want to drop the cash if it is too similar in those regards.
    Thanks for your time!

    Really great review. Thanks. So does the fact they're not flat make them not audiophile? Because many audiophiles love these.

      I never understood why "audiophile" means "flat". Are you not allowed to be obsessed with audio and like non-flat response curves?

    I hope they release a sort of upgraded collapsible M-80, I just am not a big fan of over the ear headphones as portables. Imagine how small they would be? They probably would fit in your pocket.

    Hey fidelity. I love your reviews and these long awaited M-100 seem just downright awesome! I was wondering if you think they'd be a great fit for my kind of music. I like groups like Digital Antique, The Little People, Thievery Corporation, and Ernest Gonzales. Tell me what you think, I love their style and from what you've said they seem like a solid pair.

    I have the same decision to make: M-100 or Momentum or Sony MDR 1R.
    Also, have found good reviews about Shure SRH940.

    A guy over at Headfonia kept comparing these to the Philips Fidelio L1, saying the L1's were considerable better. Two of the nicest looking full size cans I've ever seen, I also hear the Fidelio is not particularly neutral either. How do you think they match up against each other. Which do you prefer. Thanks

    i've had my crossfade lp2's for quite a while now and oh god... i've absolutaly fallen in love with them. i have to admit that v moda made me a complete fanboy. i bought them after reading a comment from you on one of your videos recommending them. thank you tyle! they're the best headphones i've ever owned (at least for electronica that is) and i got them because of you :) how do you think the sound of the lp2 and the m100 compares? because if they sound equally as good i might just buy them ;)

    Yeah, it is COMPLETELY worth it though. Best headphones I've ever used. They are built like a tank as well. Beats by Dre are very flimsy. Crossfades have kevlar chords, flexible metal allow headband that can bend, and 24k gold plated connectors. Cheaper then Beats, Better construction than Beats, and better Sound.

    Hiyah! Thanks for the extensive review, I always love to watch. For a multi-genre, durable, portable, non-fatiguing headphone (for extended use), how would you rank the M-100's, Amperiors, and DT1350's? $200-300 range, however, any suggestions for value would be appreciated.

    Indeed they are very nice i love them!, i asked you because i have a pair or M-80s and i wonder if it worth the "audio quality upgrade" to the M-100s? but if you say that the M-80 are more neutral i assume i´ll keep them insted of buy the M-100.
    Thanks!

    The sound is a million times better with the new camera. The static isn't really a big deal in my opinion but maybe it could be eliminated with some kind of Dolby noise reduction like they have with old cassette players? I'd assume there is some modern equivalent. :)

  • @silisur

    Yes these are top choices in order in terms of both audiofiles or studiofiles which means that you enjoy listening to music clean, crisp and authentic, but also where there is base or drum they are punchy and dynamic. It is usually very hard to find the combination of these 2. They are either this or that. To my opinion inspiration performed really well on both sides. I think monster made really nice piece of work. The order ones are also close. Beats pro is also a very good can. if you are:-->

    I think my Beats Pro are better than my M-100 headphones...
    I recently decided to treat my ears and switched over from a pair of beats pros to Crossfade M-100 by V-MODA. When I was doing a sound comparison I realized that my beats sounded much louder on full volume than my M-100's when plugged into my laptop. Do you think my M-100 headphones are defective? I was under the impression that the M-100's were a superior audio device and I consider volume as something very important.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    Thanks for the review, I'm really leaning towards these headphones. Does the shadow model have a leathery headband or is it a kind of felt? The V-MODA website pictures make it seem like the matte black has the leather headband while the other two do not.

    Never tried the m100 but I did buy the Crossfade LPs, which I ended up taking back and getting the Bose QC15 instead, which I love. The Crossfade LPs sounded awful. Way too much bass. I heard the m100 had a lot tighter more audiophile quality bass, but I don't think they're anywhere near as comfortable as the QC15s... Noise cancelling on the QC15s is also amazing and the bass is tight. I recomment the QC15, you wont be disappointed.

    With the proper EQ settings on these headphones, you can get some amazing balance if you're looking for a more neutral but still bassy sound.
    I just got these two days ago. At first, not really satisfied by the bassy sound but after spending about 5 hours on a EQ (learning how to use one and analyzing frequency charts), I really started to notice that even without an EQ, the mids and highs still come out quite nicely despite the bass.
    This is a real above average jack of all trades headphone. Great sound, portability, build, comfort, appearance, practicality. Really goes to show that what can be described as a "fun" headphone doesn't carry a negative meaning into it.
    Oh and for anyone who read through this comment. Here's what I ended up with my EQ settings. Lowered the bass and increased the mids and highs to bring out the vocals and increase separation in the highly detailed sound it comes with.

    @Renegade0721 I got the m100s for Christmas and they sound outstanding! I listen to all types of music. If you mainly listen to rock rap and techno these are for you. If you listen to other types there are better ones out there for that type of music but these definitely are ones you should keep in mind

    Hello, I have been doing some research for weeks trying to find the right pair of headphones. I have been watching many of your reviews for guidance but just can't seem to find the perfect pair. So I figured I would ask you for recommendations. I have been using the same SONY MDR-XB700 for years now. I absolutely love them! They sound great and can really take the power I send them through my headphone amp. But I have used them so much that a lot of the material has started to rub off from the headband and cushions. So I have been on the market for a similar pair for a while now. It seems as though the market for large diaphragm ON/OVER EAR headphones has kind of inflated since I purchased these. But I have been having such a tough time finding a pair that comes with EXTRA LARGE cushions like these. Some of the parameters which I would be willing to compromise would be materials/sturdiness/clarity/portability. I really only care about one thing, which is comfort. I purchased a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 and although I was impressed with their build/sound quality, compared to my XB700s they're incredibly uncomfortable. Any chance you can help me find a new pair of headphones with GIANT cushions? Thanks
