As my favorite Doctor I like all of the Smith Era but I can for sure attest to the fact that Series 7B was the best piece to come out of it. It was immaculate, remaining cinematic and alluring for the almost the whole duration! 11’s chemistry with Clara was also adorable, and I’d give up one of my kidneys to have a whole other series dedicated to them.

Me too. She should have had a full series together. Half a series isn't long enough for any Doctor/Companion dynamic. Matt Smith has even said his one regret about Doctor Who is that he wished he had worked more with Jenna Coleman. Who wouldn't?

@@purefoldnz3070 A comment like that really misunderstands the whole modern era of the show, which took a more companion-focused approach from the beginning. I just had a massive realization. Moffats "No Doctor" 50th script we always hear about MUSTVE involved Clara chasing the GI around the doctors timestream, stopping him at pivital moments (say perhaps scenes and locations from classic episodes where the doctor is offscreen while Clara and the Gi fight it out). I cant think how else one would pull off a "Doctorless" script for the 50th but the setup is perfectly there to honor all eras of DW (obviously couldnt have been as good as anything WITH THE DOCTOR lol).

But on a rewatch series 7 (the entire thing, but mostly 7b) has ended up being my favorite Smith season by far, especially with how much I ended up hating series 6. 28:47 - "For Now, For This Moment, I am The Doctor" - Something about this sentence stands out to me and makes me wonder if he is hinting at THE MOMENT (the weapon) saying "I am now the doctor while I use this weapon" since they were all going to use it. A Sentence showing that he has gone from WAR to THE DOCTOR while being in the presence of THE MOMENT itself.

Something I realised about series 7 is that, while it doesn’t contain many of my favourite episodes, it really doesn’t contain any I outright loathe either. Worst episodes are Dinosaurs and Cold War, and both are perfectly decent creature-features. For Who to have a series with no stinkers is something it hasn’t achieved since series 1, nor since 7

My favourite matt smith series. I love it. Imo, Moffat's writing matures a lot in series 7, 8, 9 and 10. And these series are by far the best looking series in doctor who history. Don't get me wrong I do like series 5 and 6 there's some great individual episodes, but I think moffat went over the top complicated with the story arcs. In 7,8,9 and 10, the story arcs were more personal and about the characters.

I honestly don't know why people dislike Season 7, I like the whole thing - A and B. It's my second-favourite Eleventh Doctor season, with Season 5 being one of my favourite eras in all of Doctor Who.
I actually think that Season 7 and its specials (especially Day of the Doctor) was the last time I truly loved modern Who. As much as I like Capaldi's Doctor, Season 8 and 9 were very iffy for me, before a renewed interest in Season 10 and Twice Upon a Time, before forcing myself to soldier on through the early Chibnall years and then finally giving up midway through Flux.
So maybe it's just nostalgia, but I look back on Season 7 with great fondness.

Both from a viewer perspective and Doctor perspective we should not have seen 12s eyebrows. I never understood what ppl didn't like about it - I absolutely loved all of it. I even like Crimson Horror. Day of the Doctor is probably my fav of all time. So much for the virgin queen! LOL! Also, I love the Clara character. I stopped trying to figure out why I seem to be the only Whovian who just loves the show for the entertainment value & how much those amazingly written stories make me love the characters and care about what happens to them. Because of my husband's disability and a bunch of insurance issues causing us not to be covered one month that happened just when I had a heart attack & was in the hospital for a week, we ended up having to rework our budget and give up paid tv, so about halfway through the 12th Doctor's run. Of course I was devastated, but I had just survived a major heart attack, so I was just happy to be alive! Now things are much better financially, so I am getting ready to get my paid tv back so I can watch Doctor Who when the next episode premieres!! I have to catch up by watching my dvd set of the 12th Doctor episodes, and I am getting ready to buy the complete 13th Doctor episodes dvd set so I'll be ready. Anyway, as much as I love the 9th and 10th Doctors and the 12th Doctor, (who really had to grow on me as I was very unsure of him at first, but by the last few episodes I saw of his, I absolutely loved him!), Matt Smith's 11th Doctor is my favorite- ALL of his shows - as I love the whole story of Amy, of River Song, of Rory, Clara and the Weeping Angels in Manhatten... The storylines of all those episodes... I think the writing, the acting, the overall look of the sets - are all amazing. I love it all!! Thanks for the video!!!

I would like to think, that because Clara saw his grave and saw his life when she became Impossible girl, she was able to go back to him and pressure Time Lords (because she understand him unique way). Serie 7b has some flaws that could be easily fixed, like explaining that Great Inteligence was destroyed when he attacked Doctor's timeline and Clara did simply fixed it after him and endured longer. Or that revival device did Doctor obtained after whole Devil run fiasco and his companions have it to prevent similar incidents from happening etc. Few lines could change finding excuses for reviving characters to showing continuity and ability to learn.

Rory seemed like an afterthought despite Brian’s introduction. I also think “The Name of the Doctor” is really underrated and course the two specials have their great moments. plus the visuals are a massive improvement over the RTD era and Moffat’s first two seasons. But a lot of it is mid and Clara only really comes into her own as a character in “The Name of the Doctor” onwards. I don’t hate the season- especially compared to some people in who seem to have a huge Moffat hate-boner for Series 7 to 9- but it just doesn’t inspire much of anything.

When season 7b came out, I loved it, mainly because I was 15, I didnt think too hard about things, I was horny, and I found Clara so hot (still do).
But now, I find the whole of seasons 5 through 7 way too sexualised for no reason, disconnected from reality compared to the grounded RTD era, having poorly handled overarching narratives (season 6 ending is the absolute worst imo), it also portrayed the doctor as socially awkward just for the laughs when it makes no sense in-universe.
This era has a lot of forgettable episodes and not many great ones. The only episodes from Smith's era I would consider "classics", on par with midnight for example, are "The doctor's wife" and "A town called mercy" (I didnt forget about the episode with Van gogh, I just dont find it that good). So 2 classics in 3 seasons while I count 10 (counting only once for two parters) for the first 4 seasons. And season 7b has a companion that is more of a plot point and a sex interest than an actual character.
Like how tf is the doctor suddenly attracted to humans? The whole "the doctor is dying, this time for good I swear" is really overplayed and takes itself way too seriously.

Name of the Doctor doesn’t show a “possible future”. That’s ridiculous. The show doesn’t call it a fixed point, but it basically is. Clara HAD to enter the Doctor’s time stream (that bootstrap paradox, ya know), but if the Doctor isn’t buried there, then that rewrites (offscreen, of course) Name of the Doctor. If the Doctor didn’t die on Trenzalore, then how did Clara enter his time stream?

If the show didnt constantly try to convince me that clara was the best character in the universe, 7B would easily have been my favorite series.
That fucking leaf was the straw that broke the camel's back, i just couldn't stand how hard the shilling was for the character any more after that.
For as much as you complain about the Hero worship of the Doctor in the Moffat era, The big W almost always goes to the companion, and Clara was the absolute worst of any that's come before or after. Amy saved The Space whale, and Dr robot man, James corden defeats certain death with the power of love, Clara saves the day _constantly_ when she gets in, most infamously in _Rings_ , and she even gets to have her fucking face in the main titles for an episode in series 8(or was it 9?).
Could you imagine 10 giving a big hero speech, only for his master plan to fail for no reason and Rose or Martha having to close the deal on it?
I know for *damn* sure Chibnall wouldn't dare allow 13 to be upstaged by any of her pets.
Thank God for whatever wierd shift happened when 12 came along, making it so he didnt have to deal with any of this shit.

  • @krchecotah
    @krchecotah Рік тому

No, I still think series 7 is Moffat's worst. It's 2 different seasons and a tv movie crammed into a single season with little cohesion between them. There aren't any really great stand alone episodes, Victorian Clara was better than modern Clara, the child actors are pretty bad and I'm really not sure why Clara's always looking after them, and there's a bit of a sexual thing going on with 11 and Clara that makes me uncomfortable.

  • @confused.pigeon
    @confused.pigeon Рік тому

My biggest problem with Clara is how a lot of her big plot points seem to come out of nowhere (as far as I remember) purely for the point of whatever episode they're on.
    Such as:
    - the leaf (and are you telling me one of her parents grabbed that leaf and kept it in perfect condition for multiple decades, when they weren't even in love yet?)
    - her nanny job (which is mentioned about twice and then never again)
    - her school job (which, to be fair, became more important later on)
    - Danny (who is killed off a few episodes later, after only a handful of appearances that didn't make me care about him enough to be engaged)
    - her tendency to put herself at risk (barely touched upon until the episode of her death)
All the shoe-horned in things made me just... not like her as much, because I felt like she was there as a way to further the plot, and not to be a fleshed-out character.
I could be wrong with some of these, please correct me if so - I'm open to reconsidering.
It's been a while, and I'm currently rewatching the show from series one, so maybe I'll feel it's more natural this time around (hopefully).

This video feels like SUCH a vindication! I have always loved 7B and preferred it to the rest of the 11 era. It was honestly the most I'd loved DW since the departure of RTD, and so much of that had to do with the sense of adventure in these episodes and the vibrancy and heart Clara brought to the show. I think the reason the Doctor saving Gallifrey instead of destroying it works is because he had something he was missing last time… a companion, a friend, someone to ground him and give him hope.
Without Clara, the Doctor would’ve destroyed Gallifrey all over again.
Just like how without Clara, the Doctor would’ve died on Trenzelore.
I think it was inevitable that Gallifrey would be brought back, and the 50th Anniversary was the perfect time to do so.
I can’t be the only one who thinks “The Day of the Doctor” could easily act as an ending to the show. The classic series began with him running from home, the revival began with his guilt over destroying his home world. “The Day of the Doctor” ends with the Doctor saving Gallifrey and heading home.
Of course Chris Chibnall had to ruin it by destroying Gallifrey offscreen. Unless someone retcons that as a decoy or reconstruction of Gallifrey. Apparently the Skaro that was blown up in “Remembrance of the Daleks” was a decoy. I guess terraforming does exist.

Diana Rigg was having tons of fun in that role. She was in her twilight years, so she was just enjoying the time she had left. She once joked after a near death experience that "the good Lord must have said 'send the old bag down again, I'm not having her yet!" so clearly she was a woman with a great sense of humour who wanted to enjoy life. She was more serious when she worked with Jenna Coleman again in Victoria but even in that series, her character introduced herself with such an over-the-top bow that Victoria gave her a "what the fuck are you doing?" look.
