    It is good to see Mr Mulally again, I worked at Boeing the same time as him on the 777 program. I happened to to be a Ford man ,couldn't ask for a better person to run the company

      Mulally was great for Ford. But it's a shame he didn't get the CEO job at Boeing. Instead Boeing got Jim McNerney who couldn't care less about anything other than stock price and quarterly earnings, and the employees be damned.

    thats how Henry Ford attracted workers. Good conditions, good pay, and rights for the individual worker. He wanted his own workers to not only buy the cars they were making, but to also be proud of their creations

    Alan Mulally was the exact person Ford needed to turn it around. He brought the idea that made the 777 so successful, "Working Together", to Ford and that shows no better than at the meeting with the colored charts. The managers were so afraid to tell what was actually going on that made everything green, when that one brave manager put his red and Mulally started clapping, the other managers thought that was the signal for the goons to come haul him away because he was fired, but instead opened the doors for no one to be afraid to ask for help because everyone was there as one team. Sadly the Working Together theme wasn't repeated on many more Boeing aircraft and it shows. One part of Working Together was the main requirement to always think of the customer when making a decision. Many years after the first 777 was delivered, the planes flew with the words "Working Together" painted on the side of every one delivered.

      Even if every employee gave 10 cents of their pay stub, or 1% of the salary workers he would still make well into the 200k a year mark. But since it profits into the BILLIONS I think his small percentage of pay he gets for making big executive decisions is fair. Try and get the guy putting a jig onto a wheel to place a torque gun onto it and press a button to run a multi billion dollar company, won't end well.

      Don't forget that CEO's don't really pay taxes the same way normal people do))) They get paid in bonuses, stock and options. This means that they only pay 15% capital gains tax, no matter how many tens of millions they make. The rest of us have to pay progressive tax. So, yes, they are way overpaid

      My '86 was an awesome little truck, sold it at 204k miles 8 years ago and it's still in use today as a ranch rig. My '06 is sitting just shy of 150k and literally runs like new. It's the Swiss Army knife of the car/truck world and unkillable as long as you somewhat take care of them. Too bad newer trucks keep having to get larger, uglier, and more expensive.

      I would love to see a Ranger platform with a small, efficient turbo diesel capable of 50+mpg. Not everyone needs a soot belching dually, able to tow a house, with enough hp and torque to compensate for even the smallest of things. Most really just need a pick-up for the occasional trip to the big box store. Listen up American manufacturers.

    • @406Steven
      @406Steven 9 років тому +2

      The problem is that we like our vehicles to be needlessly large. Even the new Subarus are the size of an original Ford Explorer. One of my co-workers has a Tacoma (around '07, I think) and it's bigger than my friend's '93 F--150. The last year the Ranger was in production they only sold something like 76k of them, vs. over half a million F-150s. I've looked at maybe buying a new F-150 with the base V6 but they're just so big and impractical.

    I'm a huge Leno fan, and even bigger Ford Panther platform fan. Jay, how would yo like it if your beloved "performance cars" started down the path to front wheel drive? Guess how I feel about the full size Fords, including Explorers, going to FWD? This has disgusted me like nothing else. Better marketing could have kept the Panther platform rolling for three more decades! The more I think about it, the more angry I get... But, thanks for all you do in preserving all these icons.

    • @DareToBeDeviant
      @DareToBeDeviant 9 років тому

      I fail to understand the benefit of front wheel drive anymore. Oh, shorter drive shaft to save a pound. The End. Personally, it's rwd, awd, or don't waste my time.
      Fwd are useless in snow, too, and I can prove it with both my winter beaters so there goes that theory of them being awesome after a snowfall. -_-
      To answer your question, the average consumers who don't know better would love the change to FWD Fords since they're eating up the Eco technology and there's so much emphasis on fuel savings... even for high performance cars... which is dumb because the way I see it, if you're in the market for a lot of power and $100k to spend, I doubt your primary concern is gas mileage. Look what happened to the new Ford GT - not everyone's happy about it being V6. It's rumored in the future there'd be a v8 option (which it should've been as an option to begin with!) and would've been fair.

    I agree completely. They should do with that car what GM did with the Holden Commadore (Pontiac G8). Been following that car at the Australian V8 Supercars series. Great looking cars, and should be way more fun to drive then the Crown Vic.Come on Ford, bring it stateside.

    Hit the refresh button, the magical thing about America is, when we need a New "Focus" we all come together as one team. Keeping us together may now be possible.

    Its nice to see them bring some of the global models over. The Euro version of the Focus, and them bringing back the Mondeo (Fusion). They haven't done that since the Contour days. Now that the Crown Vic is dead, that should open the door for the Falcon. Gotta give Ford some respect in that they do build their cars here and not in Canada or Mexico like the other "domestic" brands. Plus with them never taking tax payer money for bailouts...my hat is off to them. Way to go guys.

    I think the Ford GT is the most beautiful car Ford's ever made. Maybe the the most beautiful sports car ever made. It borrows the best aspects of the original and improves on it. The interior is wonderful too. It's nice to know that modern American cars can still be beautiful

    Well thats pretty interesting. I should have refined my statement from earlier because I have never owned any ford product besides the F150s. I know that they are the lifeblood of Ford, regardless of what Alan Mullaly may say. They are the number one selling pickup in the USA and have held that title for a very long time. Manufactured in Kentucky, Arizona, and Michigan. In my opinion ford should keep everything in house just like they have done with the outstanding F150 line up.

    Since the 1970s, I've yearned for a plug-in gas electric hybrid. I wept for joy when Ford came out with the CMax Energi. After decades of being ignored in favor of horse power addicted Americans, it's so great to get what I want for a change.

    Car companies don't "lose money" . They just don't make the money they " projected". Companies aren't in business to lose money. When a CEO says they lost money ask them what they're bonus was this year.

      Part of the selling point of the Ford GT, like the Boss 302, is the fact that they promised it to be limited run to keep it collectable for the future. Had they continued to build more of them past the 2 years, they probably would have been hit with lawsuits...

    I had to quit the Ford dealership heavy line mechanic roll in 1995, the dealer in Santa Barbara was cooking the books.
    I was tired of being shortchanged on hours, and made to repair all the stupid truck engines that were designed to fail.
    Working for myself really was easier, at least being honest with customers was possible.
