the tough part is the discussion, not the drawing process itself. I am also learning new technologies and a few friends have suggested I should create vlogs, but how could an insane introvert (like me) talk in front of a camera? You are . . . amazing. 👌
Jono dry, this is easily the best tutorial for drawing eyes I have ever seen! As a person who isn't a complete beginner, I can understand where you're coming from. I am happy watching your videos because not only are you, in my opinion, the best graphite artist I have personally seen, you are the most informative artist to ever draw at this level of skill and explain it in detail that I know of. I am constantly beyond amazed at what you do. Thank you for posting such videos. I personally work in colored pencil, and to a degree, I can kind of apply what you teach here, even if your medium is different!
I would love to see you choose one of your favorite graphite drawings and then reproduce it in charcoal . Discussion of the journey, in your “no holds barred”, Jono way, would be an absolute treasure for this guy. Thank you for taking time to inspire all of us artists and art enthusiasts to stay hungry for excellence. Best wishes, Cliff
I was working an art inspired by your hyperrealistic eye and planned it a few hours ago then the notification suddenly popped. A short overwhelming moment came into my nerves, thank you, I need this right now...
You were very smart in your explanation of how you were doing your composition, how and why you created your shadows, and your explanation of how you created the eyeball, as well as the eyelashes, was very comprehensive. Thank you! Masterpiece.
I love how you don’t know everything about art. You’re a god at art, and yet you’re just a normal guy who doesn’t put people down for not knowing things.
I love Jono. And I LOVE the part at 7:18 where he's all like, "I don't really know what I'm doing" while he's literally creating a freaking gorgeous eye that looks real AF!!!! Just went to the art store yesterday and got a bunch of supplies he uses. I'm gonna give some of these tutorials a try!
Jono I think you should do some more work with charcoal! This is beautiful. For someone who claims they rarely work with charcoal, you did a phenomenal job (as you always do with all of your art).
Great technique and explanation thank you very much. A little something that I have learned is that as long as you can enjoy your work and it keeps a roof over your head that that is the best job there is. Being modest keeps the real friends there and the joy of sketching or making art and being able to teach it is a true gift. I love to paint likewise and it is something that makes me happy too. I look forward to your future videos and I will definitely put into practice some of those suggestions.
It was a true pleasure to see him use charcoal. I really like drawing with charcoal and got to see a master at work. Even if you did blend too much, but hey, at least you can laugh at your mistakes, while I marvel at them. Hands would be great, especially in various gestures.
Hey from Canada. I have just gotten into drawing and love the realism that you put into each project. I have viewed many, many artists and you by far are the absolute best graphite/charcoal artist I’ve ever seen. All I can say is WOW! At 61 I don’t know if I have enough years left to even get a quarter as good as you.
What matters here is how you present your work, giving tips and guides and your voice so cool and unique that makes a lot of video flow amazing. ... I can never miss on your video release ....
Thank you. Personally, every topic you decide to talk about of is more than welcome, learning out of my comfort zone and my habits means growing. I use charcoals but I like them powdered so that I can use it with brushes. I'm actually using dry oil paint techniques to achieve darks without the shiny effect of the dark graphite and with less time consuming layers to achieve dark darks. I'm pretty happy of the results and I really don't know why I didn't use a dry oil paint technique since I've use them 2 years ago in a watercolour paper 😂😂! Anywho, I find out that is reeeally reeeaaally hard for me to keep white background white as I want without mess it up with thin layer of graphite even If I'm using a barrier between my hands and the paper I have always to erase around to make paper white and it is. Luckily, I don't have in my heart many subjects to create that include white background. Again thanks for sharing openly 🥀
Jono, hope you are doing well. I've been watching your work for about 2 years now, trying to accomodate certain level of realism to my ink work. Its hard. But I must say your videos have helped me. Inspiration and commitment are other relevant things you foster and i hope to keep recieving. Thank you, Jim.
I've been watching videos of you drawing for months and my brain still doesn't understand HOW!! Your talent is unbelieveble and also kinda gives me ideas how to kinda try and improve myself, so thank you.
Sir, you have made me to do what I want...I watched every single video of your channel in last one month...u became my inspiration of art... don't know that will you read the comment or not...but this will give me satisfaction...if I ever got the chance to talk with you about pencil sketch I will be grateful to you forever...and sir my English is not so good... pardon please for that...give such videos...it will motivate me and by that I can overcome many things I am suffering of nowadays...and thank you for being my inspiration... hope you will live long to give us the fantastic works by you...❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊🙏🙏🙏
Jono Dry, I can't thank you enough for creating this video. As someone who is working hard to become a successful artist, and as a person, I deeply admire the surreal and mind-numbingly realistic masterpieces you put out into the world. I can't yet imagine how hard you must work (especially to be self-taught!), and what kind of work ethic you must have. You deciding to take time out of your day to share your wisdom to anyone willing to listen is something anyone should be proud of. I would be so grateful if you'd continue to make these kinds of videos. I also found the Building a Career in Art videos very useful. Thank you so much for your kindness! I can't wait to follow this tutorial myself and learn from the very best. Please continue working hard, Jono. You can go even further. Sincerely, A devoted Fanatic
Okay, so I normally draw eyes as a fun warm-up sketch, but watching this video was actually super helpful in showing how little parts can really help a piece come together. Definitely going to try and do one epic drawing of an eye after seeing this video.
There are a ton of ways to do this one particular thing. Worth looking at a few different methods if you want to try something out or if this one doesn't inspire you. I remember teaching my niece how to draw an eye one on one and it worked really well. Direct teaching really has no substitute. I think in any kind of teaching a student has to be compelled. One of those ways is through personal connection. If you can get in close with people, you can really communicate better.
Recently i started seeing your tutorials and i must say i have never seen such incredible graphite, charcoal art.. one of the best artist on youtube, love from india💗
Beautiful stuff. Please do Hands Jono! Veins, creases, texture, ligaments and little hairs. So much detail I would love to know how to capture that. Thanks mate! You inspired me to start drawing a year ago and I’ve improved a lot but your knowledge would be invaluable in helping me trap reality
This is amazing....i don't know how to tell you....am a huge fan.....and you are an inspiration for me to become a good graphite artist......i just wanna become like you and upgrade my drawings to your level.....i dont even know is that possible...but sure i will try my best all the time to become......
What an exceptional talent you have, thanks for sharing your technique and don't worry about being out of your comfort zone infront of the camera your ability and skill speak for themselves. Looking forward to the next tutorial! Thanks!
Hi Jono, really enjoying your videos and work. I am new to drawing and did find this a bit quick to work along with. I had to keep stopping the video. Thanks
Hi, i too don't use charcoal shading pencil. I'll need gloves to work with and it tend to get in the way. I like working on eyes and nose, so it is good lesson this video in your channel provides. I tend to struggled with quick light sketches with graphite pencil. I need the work on shading scales from dark to light. Thank you for sharing your technics in exploring charcoal and drawing and shading of the eye. I will definitely try this method out and try to improve my drawings of eyes.
I have watched a lot of how to draw eyes tutorials, and this one is by far the most helpful. it's more relaxed too, which I really appreciate. I just found your channel, and I am so happy that I did. you are awesome.
I love your artworks so much! You inspired me to pursue hyperrealism. First time i saw your sketches, i am speechless. I thought, i must see how he do this and follow him so i can see more and be updated. Thank you so much for your videos! Looking forward for more.
Thank you very much for your video's I enjoy the tutelage I have received from them, and your graphite technique is incredible, I have learned so much, thanks Jono. You asked what you could do next in your video and can you do a small video like this one regarding -fabric creases- I find the so challenging and any of your professional knowledge would be so helpful! Thanks again Jono
Hey. I just wonder if you try to draw some stuff like icebergs or surrealistic items with unreal animals or creatures? I think much people would like to see how you're drawing things like this. And yeah, your works are phenomenal, it's great to see so much talented artist and learn from you.
I just discovered your channel a few days ago. Wow! What talent! And such a virtuoso! I would actually like to see you doing a tutorial of drawing an eye with the pencils you're used to working with. Would love to see and learn how you get all those crazy details of the skin, the "color area" of the eye, etc. Thank you!
Perfect speed! I love these tutorials. Your work leaves me in awe. I would love a video on how you draw the textures on elephant skin. I am busy with drawing my first large elephant drawing, but the skin texture is leaving me stumped.
I've always loved drawing eyes, you gave some really helpful tips that I'm excited to try. I haven't picked up a pencil in months and I'm inspired to draw again. Thanks for the instruction and the inspiration.
Another fantastic video Jono and thank you for sharing your tips in your calm way. Love how you are happy to experiment and share as it is so important for us to all keep learning. I do love drawing eyes, as you say, because of the different textures, however would be amazing to see you do similar for the nose as this I find is so much about shading as there are fewer defined edges. Thank you again and stay safe.
Jono great job this was amazing and easy to follow my son loves to drawing and we love watching you draw , he try’s to draw like you, thank you for these videos
I love this channel! Thank you for the tutorial. It really helps when you share what you’re focusing on and explain how they nest themselves in the drawing.

this just amazing , and why is your voice so calming?
@Harsh Garg. Maybe because he sounds like some aristocratic guy from Downton Abbey who you can count on to always be polite and nice
His mind is very calm and meditative , it can't be otherwise
@@Sunset-blvd My bet, he tours the streets killing homeless people to keep himself relaxed. No proof, just a feeling.

Hearing him laugh while creating such a masterpiece makes me fall in love with him more !best artist ever ❤
I know your artwork is in the thousands upon thousands I applaud you
I've been sketching drawing and painting since I was in 2nd grade and you keep me inspired to become better and better every time also I'm 19 now
Man that fine line under the iris does make the diff , thank you
What i like about him is the amount of detail that he has in his drawing is crazy.
It takes a lot of hard work to put this on a paper .
Good job
Hard work?
Probably doodles all day like me

The softer the charcoal the darker and more it spreads and breaks down, harder charcoal is good for lighter tones and fine lines
