ADVICE ! Instead of open/close the door many times you can just press the sensor near the tyre pressure placard (like a black spring loaded nipple with a screw). It will send the required singal without slamming the door. Just got the same trouble yesterday. Couldn't start for about 15 minutes so had to get an uber 😖 Today is much warmer so the trouble disappeared itself. Found the hack on the Kizashi forum. You could just disconnect the sensor mentioned above(please read the exact steps on the forum) and you'll never have any more trouble with the steering lock (neither its functionality and a few more non-critical functions thought)
@@Fyr13Bry Actually you dont need to remove that rubber switch completely. Just wrap the screw with piece of paper or something that would isolate the screw from touching the body(ground) and the problem is solved. 👍
I had the same steering lock wheel locked even though the wheel didn't lock even when turning 180° in both directioms when car was off, the solution that made it work was reseting the computer system by unpluging the battery for 5 minutes and pluging it back, hope this helps.
Thank you for your video it really helped me with my Kizashi in just 3 tries and pushing the button near the driver side door panel instead of open & closing door. Wishing you all the best!
Many thanks, Petter. This happened to me this morning and I needed to call the AA breakdown service to fix it. The AA engineer sourced this video before he got to me and on arrival tried this open/close door method and it worked very quickly. However, he said I needed to go immediately to my Suzuki garage for it to be checked. They couldn't replicate the problem and said it was hopefully a one-off incident. However, if it does happen again, I will know how to fix it (finger's crossed).
I have a 2010, and i didnt want to replace the steering wheel lock $$$, so if you can get it to the point where is starts, you can remove the electrical connection(unplug the wires on the door switch. It is on the B pillar, and it is one or 2 phillips screws, then take off the rubber, and just disconnect the electrical,it wont relock...it registers when you close the drivers side door, but if you dont have that switch connected, your car will still lock, but the steering lock will not engage
I had the same issue with my rental car 2018 Nissan Rouge . A friend told me to lift and turn the steering wheel while pushing the break pedal down. Fortunately it worked.
I have had same problem before and I would just lock the car up then unlock with fob get back in and it would start. Today I could not get it started for nothing so I finally tried unlocking with the manual key inserted in key hole on the door and then the damn thing started!
He he. Nice one! I had a funny thing happend to me as well today. I started the car, and the stereo speakers only work in the trunk. Then I got curious, and wanted to open the trunk to listen more closely. As soon as I opened the drivers door, all the stereo speakers worked again.

Hi, the processes i did is, just turning on and off the ignition without pressing the break, then opening the door, until the key sign in the dash disappear, then i try to press the break and start the car. I think this can work on a Toyota as well. Worth a try.
Open and close the door its same as just push the switch button at the door right? And howmany time tobe fix it bro? Please note to us, we are from Indonesia, we have many population of s cross from India
It is better to have the door open, while doing it. So you don`t have to open and close the door. The orher thing you write, I have honestly don`t understand what you mean.
I'm here looking for a solution for a different problem on my Kizashi. But I've also had this same issue as well and am waiting for a part to come in so that I can have it fixed once and for all. Lately, it's done this to me at least 4 times in the past 6 weeks or so. Usually, I just get out of my car and go for a walk a distance away; walk about 10 minutes and then come back....and it will start. Maybe it's like a re-set to the computer system...I dunno!! (*shrugs)
Thank you very much for the video! my 2011 Kizzy just started having this problem, two times so far. the first time I thought I would try the battery disconnect/reconnect to see if that would fix it but I did not have the proper tools and couldn’t get the battery cables off however I thought I’d try to start it again anyway and it started. I tried the same technique the second time and again it started so if it is a door sensor issue I am wondering if the precise door that needs to be open is the hood since it registers on the dashboard as a door as well. I also recently was having problems with my car’s throttlebody. The auto parts shop gave me the diagnosis and suggested buying a new one however I found another video on how to clean it so I tried that and it took care of that issue so I am wondering if I can do the same for the steering wheel lock - take out the one that is in it, give it a good cleaning and see if that takes care of the problem.
Thatt may work, could be worth a try. I personaly just use a hair blower, if the stearing lock is giving me a really bad time. Sometimes it workes fine for a long time.
@@TheHarmonica I'm wondering if the hair blower is a form of cleaning, not heat to fix it when it happens to yours... like maybe blowing off the dust... same with opening/closing the door 20 times, it may be shaking or vibrating off the dust... just a theory.
@@dunoripavalan1980 I personally think, that it is the humidity that makes it come some water in there. I only have problems when it is raining. If it is minus, it allways it`s fine. And the same if it is hot outside, it allways starts with no problem.
I am having the same issue with my 2010 Kizashi. I had accidentally figured out the method that you have shown in the video with one variation that when I open the door I press the black rubber knob on the handle that locks the door and that locks my steering and then I just try to start it by pulling the steering to a side and starting the car. I was thinking of replacing the lock myself but when I took the plastic panels under the steering wheel out I saw that there is no easy way to get to the bolts that are holding the lock. Do you know about how to unscrew those bolts? Thanks for sharing the video!
Hi, I really don`t know anything about the screws. I had not changed this streainglock. Mine still works fine. But when it is raining it can be hard to start still, so then I either use a hair blower, or a hot towel in a pastic bag, that I put under the steering wheel. It then starts easy enough.

I don`t know if this is common problem on other keyless cars. I had this sensor bug thing going on for 2 years. Sometimes it works fine for long time in cold weather, and some weeks it is trouble every time it is cold or raining outside. I believe it is humidity that does the bug. You press the start button without starting the engine by pressing the start button 2 times, then you have the door open at the same time, each time you do this, the steering wheel lock unit will reset
