- In this video, we are attaching brackets, continuing to build trusses and then completing the bent. We have figured out a much better system than with the first bent, including moving it. Sometimes you have to go through a little trial and error to figure out what works best for you and your projects and that's just what we did. We have a great team and we are working hard to meet our deadline! Super excited to see these go up soon!
We are milling our barndominium - barn house out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill. If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, (which is now our barn house build) make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the first slab last summer, we milled most of the timbers needed over this past winter/spring, added plumbing, put in a second slab for our garage and now we have started building our barndominium - barnhouse - lodge - our home.

***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!

Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
3 posts in the front
4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
It will have a 3 :12 pitch
Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"

Lifting looks like it went much more smooth this time.
So much better now! That first on was a doozy- even harder to watch! 🫣
The push to get these bents done in time is definitely on, but we have a great team and we are working hard to get to the finish line - can't say I'm not feeling a little pressure because I definitely am, but overall, feeling good. Sometimes, there just aren't enough hours in the day! Hope you enjoy this video - we definitely have a better system going! 😁

Howdy y’all- you’re very fortunate to have all that help. I’m not getting as much done working by myself. You’re gonna make it by crane day. When a crane is scheduled it seems to put a little stress on the project but that’s just part of the journey. Hang in there, guys. God bless

Feeling the pressure? Haha, welcome to the club. We're struggling getting all our solar figured out and hooked up. We'll get there and it will be awesome, and so will you and your project.

Making great progress. I wonder if a magnetic drill press would have been able to drill the holes straight through from the top side. Once you had the plate screwed down you would have had the steel surface for the magnet to attach to and drill away. A larger piece of steel for the small plates with the correct hole pattern would work for them and would let you have the 9/16" holes. The CNC guy would have been able to make that plate in short order.
A 1/2" sheet of plywood with 1 X 4s screwed to it as a lip would have been easier to square up the beams when working by yourself. Probably need a leg for the odd corner, but it would be as accurate as the 3-4-5 system but quicker when you are the only one there.
I wish I was there to help. This looks like a fun project. You might be looking at a new career!!
Hi, Mike- I think the magnet drill press is a good idea.
And a larger plate with the pattern for those small brackets would have worked great as well.
Wish you lived closer - all these good ideas after that part of the project is over.
I asked Erik how much he wanted to make once I started bidding jobs - he said $12/hr. So that’s good 😊 😂

@@Z-Bart Great advice! Sometimes I forget to drink enough water and regret it later. We have a cooler with cold drinks, including water so that will help! 😁

the jig to drill out the hole from the bolts why drill out to 9/16 instead of leaving it 1/2 inch and safe a step
Hi, Wade- I saw your comment prior to starting the 7th bent. And thought- duh. Then I remember I told my CNC guy that I would give him that jig back when I was done with it. Probably should have just drilled it out to 9/16. Great tip. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it. 🤣
When putting the two 12”screws thru the rafter into the top of the king post. Have you ever considered going straight into the top of the king post. The holding power is greater since the top of the king post is at an angle and not square cut.
Your screw is holding with the head and threads and not using the body of the screw as if it was a steel dowel pin.
Hi, Tom- Not sure I follow 100%
We are trying to put the screws in cross grain and not end grain whenever possible. Also trying to put about 5 inches of threads into the opposite timber. Trying not to have threads in both Timbers. 😁
Rather than hammering in those large bracket bolts, consider using the impact driver that you already have to spin / drive them in flush with the top plate, it should pull them down with ease. That way will likely prevent the damage to the bolt threads when hammering, that damage is stopping you getting some of the nuts on the opposite side. I realise that you can repair the damaged bolt threads, but that takes time, and time is at a premium rate when the pressure is on :)
Hi, Paul- We kinda figured this out towards the last couple of bents. Forcing them through with a hammer isn’t the answer- that’s for sure. I ended up using an end wrench and that worked much better and saved the threads. I’ll give the impact driver a try. Thanks for the tip. 😁
@@ourdreaminthewoods There are many ways to skin that cat :) Even an impact wrench will damage the thread if the hole is too far out of alignment, but it's likely the fastest method, after you've used the jig to drill the holes :) BTW - Enjoying the build very much :)

Hey editor- enough with the SLOW-MO, its stupid. WE can slow mo anytime we want to see it in slow mo and its not like a crash at the indy 500 or last step of the touch down catch.
