Mmm ok, I own 2 classic 500s both around 23k km and I’ve had none of the problems you’ve described. Riding with me are 3 350s and yes they are a lot smoother but even on a level road won’t keep up with the 500. I’ve ridden them a few times and eyes closed I’d take a 500 over the reborn any day. I must say even with the speedo issues on the the 350, it does look better than the 500 cluster
great to hear but i am actually talking faults on these from brand new and right out of the dealers showroom. bikes showing 23k click are really well used and unless you purchased them new may have been sorted out many years back. that would be easy to tell too pull the spark plugs on both. if they are the factory bosche put in the ngk bpr6es or 6 and get back to me and then tell me how much better the bike runs and idles if they have the ngk plug in you can bet these bikes have had the odd fix done on them as previous owners would have no idea on the plug swap. the dealers didn't know. in the early days it was just trial and error. one guy in the usa hit the jackpot on the plug and we all followed since then ive been telling the guys on youtube on the ngk plug for 8 or so years and they ALWAYS got back and said thanks for the plug info -bike runs great! there has been a bit of interest in this clip so i might just buy another 500 as they are pretty cheap for around the $6000 mark and revisit the past. then do quite a few clips on the bike and it could be quite a benefit to some
I have the 500 with the carberry plate and bigger sprocket and still the vibrations are a huge issue. Which is sad because I do love the bike for its character but its unridable for me. But: since early december I also have an 350! It is in storage waiting for the winter to end so I can start riding again! I did some testride before and I liked it a lot!
the 500 vibes actually caused me nerve damage from the vibes. permanent too. if you have the footpeg vibes add that double head steady i mentioned in clip. it will near wipe it out in the pegs. i tried 3 vibe plates on 500's when they first came out. lots of talk then that the suppied bearing was not of good quality. think it was needle and should have been roller 2 did nothing and one helped slightly so in the end i think it depends up how much wobble is in that crank
500 every time for me. Each to their own of course, but I suppose the clue is my wallet. I test rode a Meteor 350 a few years ago. Even did a couple of videos on it, but my wallet was never opened for one. You have to book in advance to overtake on the 500, with the 350 you get a return note. Joking aside, and this goes for the new 350 Honda too, you'd have thought a few more horses and grunt could have been got out of a modern 350. Even my Himalayan feels more nippy, and it's the original and best 411cc.
Great to hear from someone who knows bikes and has owned plenty of both. I think it's a question a lot of us have asked ourselves, because of course if we have or want a 350 Reborn, we are 'into' the classic look and feel, so we wonder "wouldn't a 500 be _more_ 'classic' and give a little more power?" I think you've answered the question well. I think I'll stick with my Bullet 350 Reborn.
i still think the 350 reborn looks pretty close to the 500. who knows i have little to do i might even buy a 500 just to put it against the 350 i have 5 new bikes sitting here or near new so i suppose i could add a used for a different look something i might really consider and rather than talk the past i actually bring the past back. all the best!
@@5150show well they are good bikes and after buying my first i never went back to a 500. not hard to do as they are pretty cheap to buy but in all reality they were badly put together with no quality control period. back in 2020 my last new 500 arrived here in oz with its front suspension fork springs fitted the wrong way up. i actually had to remove the forks and pull the springs and add new oil and put it back together before i could get a good ride in. plus i can back up what i say with clips too...lol the 350 is a good bike. not a powerful bike but very reliable. reliability beats power as you can trust it!
great to hear and i'd say not many will agree. well i never mentioned frame cracks/steering death wobbles/wiring harness/side stand switch/fuel gauge faulty/ neutral issues/ popping out of gears/swingarm issues/warped rotors/broken or off centre engine bolts/decompressor issues plus other stuff BECAUSE i get quite a few comments from guys saying i know nothing ...lol my thoughts they have been watching a guy who bought one and he's happy and wants to keep his subs...lol and said its great....lol over the years ive heard many a time selling the bike with great character. in other words owner couldn't handle the jack hammer vibes...including me...lol i still say the 350 reborn is easily the better bike and if only they'd made it in a "J" series 500 i dont class the new 650 classic a classic. its just and interceptor in a different frame. i actually owned 2 interceptors - great bike and one of the best but not a classic. unfortunately it has too many cylinders...lol but is indeed the smoothest riding bike ive been on apart from a scooter
@@ridewithwarro lol, I'm pretty sure I know who they've been watching too. I love my 350 reborn coming upto 2 years now & faultless. I should probably look at swapping out the battery at some point this year, so I'll start looking at what's available with a decent cranking rate i think.
The 350 Reborn looks the business, without too much hassle, and a useful daily ride to boot. But I'm happy to stick with my CB125F, which may not be as quick, but is fast enough for my needs..... often on rough roads and gravel, but can do an unstressed feeling 90 km/hr or more on the highway. Have done 17,000 km on it over the past year without a problem and have done nothing more than oil the chain every 800 - 1000 km and routine services. Have not even had to adjust the chain, and the original tyres don't look to be half worn yet. Getting 550 - 600 km from each 10 litre tank top up, depending on use. Designed and built in India with enough character from the lowish revving under square engine. A real trooper.
well you'd know where i had my cb125f and its last run to long point to the river via 4wd track was a real good workout for both. overall they are a pretty good value for money bike unlike the cb125e which id rate maybe the worst new bike i'd ever been on. in fact that bad it makes a classic 500 look very good...lol
Thanks for the comparison Warro. Not wanting to sidetrack you too much, you seem to get through a lot of bikes these days, when you were younger, you may not have had the finances for that. Can you give us a couple of ""war stories" of bikes that were "keepers", how many k's you wringed out of them and why? Cheers mate. You do tell a good story.
well strange as it sounds the bikes i have now i think are the best ive had for a while and a classic 500 is not one of them. now you might say why are you against the classic 500. easy answer due to the terrible vibrators i bought and rode ive suffered from permanent hand and feet nerve damage from those bustardos of bikes. the honda gb350 is a really good bike and nice to ride but not in stock form. the xmax 300 scooter would easily outperform a classic 350 and knock over the 500 pretty easy too the suzuki vstrom 250 sx is best value bike you can buy in oz. if you said that or a himalan . easy pick ive owned both so vstrom 250 sx the grom in yellow is more just a fool around clown bike i only drifted back into motorcycles from cars as i found motorcycles to be pretty easy to buy.
The classic 350 looks so much better with the red painted side panels , I never understood why my chrome bronze 350 has body colour side panels and the red chrome didn’t 🤷♂️
@@funkygrib1 yeah ive been thinking about that for a while. ive just painted the honda gb350 red and took the panel over to the classic 350. pretty close to a match and had a bit of paint left so decided to give it a go so it virtually cost me nothing in $$$ to do and i think turned out like it should have been from start. back in 2012 the chrome c5 had chrome tank/guards/battery and tool boxes in chrome. plus in those days enfield gave every buyer 2 new tubes/clutch/speedo and brake cables/tin touch up paint/couple of reflectors and 2 large spanners. today all you get is a better bike...lol
Wish the J series engine was 500cc with around 40hp the 350 although wonderful on back roads, it is not a motorway machine which I use from time to time.
yeah even if it was just 27hp i'd buy one for sure. enfield did good with this new j motor compared to their very poor attempt on the uce 500's saying that you'd have to ride the gb350 i have and you'd say immediately -warro that is indeed the better bike which it is but again just doesn't look as good....lol well mine is red now so it's improved there. either way i dont care much as i like and ride both bikes. not at the same time either...lol back to the 500. i mean over a 10 year span the same bike and the best they could do was dual abs and a rear disc and toss in a different colour plus jack the price up $500...lol
great to hear. i always thought the green was the pick of the colours. didn't go that much on the red version. thats hard to believe considering im on a red/chrome and just re-paint my new blue honda gb350 red...lol
Hi Warro, good to hear from you again, right at the moment the Guerilla 450 is here and it's the same price as a classic 350, in fact you can find them under $8000. Cheers .
Great video, Warro. Thanks for sharing. Great advice for those interested in either model. And yeah, for us living down under, we gotta watch out for those roos. Mostly dawn and dusk, but always keep an eye out. Did you ever see a video posted on YT over in Canada or the US of a rider that hit a deer? They were doing over the ton, tho. Made a mess of bike, rider and deer. Cheers, mate.
i recall seeing one where a guy hit a deer and had on his airbag jacket. not sure if that was it or not. on the day he was extremely lucky that's for sure
well i only went halfway in the faults but all can be rectified if one knows anything about them. the big issue being others come in on just one bike and spread crap where i came in right in the very beginning or close..2012 believe me they were very badly put together and unreliable bikes. problems all the time the may have been sorted out by now but back them they were very disappointing..lol i once told an enfield dealer. the best thing i like when buying a new 500 is i can take it home and start fixing it...lol plus i recall telling the dealers how to fix certain issues before they even knew about it themselves. one being the faulty sprag clutches in 2014 and the other being the ngk spark plug. plus the rear wheel lockups hopefull the older bikes now have been sorted out but i never bought used so can only talk new bike experience.
Thanks Warro for this very informativ video,i`m sure that the 350 is a smoother bike but the legacy is on the 500 which many bikers love.I must say your bike didn`t sound very healthy maybe i´m hearing things but that scrapy grinding noise is not good,i don`t think it comes all from the tires, could be that the chain is scratching or something.Anyway thanks again for your video and i`m looking forward for more.
yeah it may help some-one out a bit or it may not...lol all sorts of sounds are picked up via raw audio and it depends upon where you locate the mic. i never enhance the shots but i know others who do or clean up their shots and audio. all the best!
Great bike comparison clip. 350's sure seem to be taking the spotlight these days. This information should help anyone trying to make the right choice between the two.
well it may help some but not so others. if your mind is set on 500 i dont think what i say will make any difference. this is just a clip to help out if one is thinking of buying and what others may not tell you. in a way its like watches. you might say your omega is the best but i think a rolex is a far better choice..lol same goes with bikes but at the end of the day a 500 will be worth not much money but the rolex will double its value
@ridewithwarro Very true. And it's all about what works best for you 🙂. Great thing about this clip also is it gives folks options... to ride a vibrator or not.
@@findingneutral well im only giving an opinion on what to look out for. after-all ive owned 15 of the 500's - plus 3 350 reborn -2 uce 350-2 interceptors-1 535gt -1 himalayan so ive had a few. all im saying is if vibes are no issue buy the 500. if you want it easy go the 350 reborn the 350 is virtually trouble free and the 500 will require a bit of hands on work but in all honesty i dont care what they buy as i really like the new honda gb350 and the xmax 300. so i have choices...lol
i was really after the Bronze but on the day, they had none in stock. on the red/chrome the paint coverage didn't look complete. i think it's now looks a far more balanced bike and the paint side was pretty easy to do
thanks for that Warro, well i have a 350 bullet 2007, as you say always needs a bit of tinkering, also got a 2023 hunter 350 J series, cannot help but keep spending money with Mr hitchcocks and Raj in India, love the hunter done almost all mods, its still my go to bike although my bullet is good fun to play with but stick local, my hunter do 150ml trips regularly, dont change my bikes like you, I live NW uk, lake district area, so great roads for the little hunter and no issues, I have toyed with the idea of getting a guerrilla thats 450 but would have to squeeze up in the Shed coz nothing is being sold off, just toys for a 70 yr old boy😉
in a way i sort of get sick of buying motorcycles. not sure how it goes your way but in my case here in oz with 5 bikes and 3 cars im paying $7000 a year to register and insure them for 12 months before i actually get in or on to ride either. lucky too that they are new so im not hooked up with bike repairs as the dealers sure know how to charge. not long back i was quote $350 for an oil and filter change on a scooter. i think i actually did it for $45...lol so there always some-one out there to rip ya. daughter put her mazda in for a service. price quoted was $700 all the did was change the oil and filter and the other involved looking over and checking a 2 year old car. every=-one is out for a slice of the pie and unfortunately some take a much bigger slice...lol
Great comparison thanks Warro. I previously had the last of the 500 series, in Classic Chrome, I had the Carberry plate installed and the vibration after that wasn't a worry to me. Also had an after market muffler and it sounded really nice. I now have a 350 Classic Chrome still running the bike in. One thing I have noticed is the quality of finish on the new J series is an improvement on the old 500, the chrome on the wheels is better I reckon. I really love the relaxed ride of these bikes. I'm at an age where I'm happy cruising along the country roads, checking out the crops etc. Like you I have the local kangaroos to watchout for. Going to work the other morning on my scooter I was taking it easy waiting for 3 roos to cross the road to the water point. (leak in the water mains) Go past them around the corner, and big roo jumped out of no where and I missed him by about a metre. If he had hit me he would have knocked me and the scooter flying. The scooter is a Suzuki Address 110 and its the most reliable bike I have owned. Great fun to ride and handy for shopping. In between the 500 and the 350 I had an Interceptor and a Himalayan 450.
i had two of those 110 address scooters and found them pretty responsive and good value. i think i paid $3000 ea when i had mine as suzuki was doing a special. i bought one blue and one white...lol either way a good around town runner and i also did a few runs out on the road. now have the xmax 300 which some might not like to hear but it would easily bowl over the classic 350 and knock off the 500 too. in pickup and top speed....lol very good twist and go ride. interceptor is a great ride and i had 2 of those and the only himalayan i owned was the first carby version and it was a pretty good rider but very agi in the looks dept...lol all the best!
great to hear it was helpful. if one knows the issues pretty easy to fix. if you know zero its a long walk home. well in my case it was a phone home and bring the van...lol
I'd be interested to hear what you _would_ do to the 350 Reborn. After first service, I'm thinking of fitting the DNA air filter and intake cover and replacing (removing) the cat on the pipe. Some people then recommend the FuelX thingy, but I'm not sure about that. It may be cooler running and smoother with more fuel, though?
if i was doing it i'd forget the dna filter 0-waste of money. just buy the larger intake cover. the mid pipe and probably the fuelex after i did a few test rides and see how the other two mods performed. i ran a dna type filter on the 500 and int 650 and on a near stock bike i think waste of $$$
The new classic 650 is due out soon and I myself would get the bigger twin after a good test ride. I felt the 350 too under powered on the major highway for me. The 500 while a beautiful bike I felt was not for me too many issues with mechanics. Love the Interceptor 650 twin and it’s not a problem to run at 110-120 km on the highway.
I remember you talking about the rear wheel locking up on one of your old Classic 500 videos (2018, maybe?), but didn't realize that the difference was between the drum brake and the disc brake. I now know that I wouldn't go near a UCE 500 with a drum. Although it would be neat to have one of the 500s, for me it could only be in addition to the 350, which is my all time favorite motorcycle. Thank you for the video! George
yeah its not the actual rear drum adjustment shaft its in the area in which centres the brake drum shoes near the shaft. i asked a dealer once -have you ever experience rear wheel lockup on a 500. he said strange you asked that. the other day i was doing a customers bike test ride applied the rear drum and it locked up and it almost got tossed over the bars. not many know or will admit issues with the 500. like the frame cracks or the death wobble steering swing arm issues on some plus other stuff. but i was there in the near beginning and the others really know very little on that side....lol some think they do but i was there in the beginning and not one who came in just 2 years back. totally different ball game.
Glad I don't have to watch out for roos on my travels! So far I've not had any issues with the 350s I've owned. A few guys I know have 500s and as you say you have more mechanical issues to look after but they do enjoy them.
yeah i think its like i said in the clip, more power and more issues with the 500 and just a good all round reliable ride with the 350. all the best and enjoy the ride experience
The J bike, while it is a more modern design and no doubt slightly better built can be no substitute for a pushrod OHV 500. The J is an OHC. The layout of the UCE500 is closer to its historical roots. The bike shakes and it it a lackluster performance dinosaur. But people that buy it dont buy it for performance, but feel, and in my opinion the 500 delivers that old thumper feel. Depends on the personal taste in the end. Good points as always Warro
well i think if coming from a harley to a classic 500 the vibes would be of no issue. ive never owned a harley i could easily but too heavy for me. i had some pretty good experiences on the 500 and clocked up quite a few klm. but i never took them off road or to places where i take the 350. like i said in the clip i only bought new bikes and its years down the track since then and most of the bikes in the 500 range should be sorted out by now. well unless they are very low klm rides. either way both are pretty good rides and i was on the 350 today and have no real complaints. now saying that if enfield announced a 500 single in the j platform you'll see it here first or in first order...lol
Great info Warro 350 would be the one 500 seems a nightmare ...how wonderful were carbs simple and avoided complexity and extra components needed for injection.
yeah both are fine especially if you have prior knowledge on the 500 - all issues can be sorted out and if a vibrator they can also be tamed a bit....lol when i first bought mine no-one really knew what to do and it was more trial and error even enfield couldn't get the plug right to start with and it was worked out and worked out very successful by actual owners
Great video and I like your paint job on the side panels. I'd always have a Classic 500 over the new 350. The 350 is a great bike viewed in isolation but it is tribute bike based on a modern generic frame, shared with two totally different bikes. They've basically taken a kind of 3D photocopy of a Classic 500 and used lots of plastic inner panels to make it fit the new frame. There is for example no reason for those triangular side boxes to be this shape on the new 350. They've just put those lids over a plastic moulding to make it look like a 500. They are metal all the way through to the frame on the 500 and the frame dictates their shape. There's plenty more that is fake on the new 350 too. The battery box is fake and plastic. The battery now resides deep inside what was the air filter housing box on the 500 and is difficult to get to as there's loads of plastic bits in front of it which need to be removed. The optional sprung seat is also fake on the new 350's. The springs are there for decoration only. They are real and do work on the 500. The instrument dials and key surround are chromed plastic and plastic 'glass' on the new 350's. They are polished alloy and real glass on the 500. The throttle body cover is metal, just like the battery box cover on the 500. They are both plastic on the new 350's. The larger engine size of the 500 actually equates to over 33% extra torque and over 33% extra horse power of the 500, over and above that of the new 350's. This makes quite a difference. Having a kick starter as well as electric start will also make a difference over the new 350's if you have low battery power. The Classic 500 is a genuine 1950's bike which has been gently modernised over the decades to meet modern legal requirements. It IS the original Classic, not just a modern homage to the 500, in looks only. The engine of the 500 is sympathetic to the original 1950's engine by being an over head valve unit, which was only designed relatively recently (around 2009). You have to buy a £17k UK new Norton to get this now and as mentioned here, it has auto adjusting tappets, so no tank off at every service unlike the new 350's. Granted, the 500 does vibrate more than the new 350 but I've never had any problems with loose bolts because Royal Enfield used mild thread lock in them and my 500 hardly vibrates at all to be honest. Finally, the 500 is either a Euro 3 or 4 bike. This makes them far easier to tune than the Euro 5 350's, which contain a much more 'anti tamper' ECU.
good to hear you enjoyed the colour change on the tool boxes. yeah i see your point on the plastics. i recall buying a new 500 in the 016 plus period. one had a plastic chain guard and the other had the right metal oval tool box cover metal on a press in plastic housing. all 350s are virtually created equal and more like honda in my case i had 2 or 3 very low bikes in the 500 range and then some outright shakers. 10 years back i feel and others did too. it all depended on the tooling of the crank and how it was put together or outright just slapped together overall i have no real issues with both bikes. in fact i almost bought back one of my old bikes say 6 weeks ago but i never...lol all the best!
Yeah got a get home before the Roos come out bloody dangerous. What time is best time to get off the road over there before them Roos 🦘come out Warro 5pm or something?
id say on a sunny day something like from 6.30 pm onwards. once the sun disappears its game on. say 400 metres further up the road just on the crest of that hill back in 2019 i think i almost took out a wallaby on first ride out on that ravishing red interceptor. bit of a close call that day. all the best!
Hi Warro, good video. I have a red chrome 350 like yours and a late green 500 trials The 500 is luckily a smooth one I know the the 350 is a better bike but I can't help preferring the 500 Regards Edward
yeah these 500's vary from bike to bike and one bike could have been made a few thousand bikes from the other. even though they look identical not all are the same. totally different with the 350's. all mine rode and feel the same. when you have a choice of both its a bit easier to swing with the power. a few years back i had a 360rwhp mazda miata. capable of 275 kph i also had that yellow mgf and wouldnt drive it because it was gutless...lol now the mx5 is gone-too much power and no-where to use so i now settle for the mgf...lol
Great video. I have a 350 as well. I remove the pillion seat and the handles. I added a tan Lowrider seat. I love the way they look. Do you know if self adjusting hydraulic valves are available to replace the existing valves in the 350 classic that would be great?
yeah i just put the handles back so easier for me at 72...lol to place on centre stand. you know an age thing...lol bike looks far better with pillion seat off. plus i just attached the spring kit. doesnt serve any purpose but looks ok no ideas on the valve side all the best!
I got a chuckle over the kangaroo comments, the prospect of one running in front of you is not funny, but you speak of it like the deer concerns we have here in Ohio. I guess I never really thought of a kangaroo being an issue. That is part of what makes watching these videos from other countries so interesting. I agree, the Classic 350 is a wonderful little bike for anyone wanting a Classic style bike with easy maintenance and handling. Stay safe!
yeah a few years back or roughly 2019 my first day out on the interceptor same area 400 metres up a large grey jumped in front of me. almost touched the front wheels...geez that was a close call....lol bike was shaking or it could have been me...not sure...lol either way a close one. plenty of roos about here. the other day i was out riding the gb350 in a local forest and rounded a bend and saw a good 50 grey jumpers munching away a year back on a trip i did to the bridle track i actually walked into a lone buck roo and he stook upright to well over 6ft tall. i must admit i was packing it a bit....lol these guys are impressively strong and surprisingly know to attack. in my case i just looked the other way and kept walking but no doubt they would or could kick the crap out of you and using their hind leg and main toenail -easily gut you on the spot. pretty smart too. if chased by dogs they head for water -dog goes in and they actually drown them. female roo's are usually pretty quite or docile. but in all species its mainly the males who need sorting out...lol
yeah those roos blend in well in the bush and come out pretty fast. they can do heaps of damage to riders and cars. same too with emus. a few years back i bought a fully restored triumph daytona for a guy in another state. i said will you deliver for $1000 extra. he said yes. on his way to deliver he actually hit an emu and totally wrote his car off. i thought he'd be pissed but not the case. told me he got all his insurance money on the car and bought a newer model. he also said no more delivery side so i had to have it freighted...lol
@@ridewithwarro Wow, I had no idea they could be so mean. Deer usually run from us, I have hit one with a car, as they seem to jump out from nowhere along the wooded ares and corn fields. I sure don't want to encounter one on a bike. A buck during rut season can get aggressive, but the biggest risk is a 200lb impact at speed. Thanks you for all of your videos! I enjoy them, especially when it is too cold and snowy here to ride.
@@wallybuettner if an issue always with the males. id say over past few years ive read 2 or 3 people have been attacked by male roos, you have no idea how bulked up they are till you see one stand up straight and balance of its tail and stay clear...lol best idea if alone and bump into them male guarding females. best idea is just stay clear and turn direction.
congrats on the 80k and great run on the classic 500. i knew a guy who did 50k but that bike was badly treated. i think with all bikes regular oil and filter changes make a huge difference to how long it eventually lasts. all the best!
I do like my 350 classic, but I still miss owing my 500, so I'm on the look out for another cheap 500 to fettle with for the summer, keep um coming warro 👍
well they are good to play with. i had heaps of chances there. i recently knocked back my old 500 i sold to a guy back in 2017. its in some of my old clips. i was going to buy it to run against the 350 but...lol
Great video as usual. Thanks for the info. I have a line on a 2018 Pegasus , a garage queen with 150 miles on it. Guy wants $5000 US. What is your opinion on that model in general? I'm around $4000 as I'm sure it'll need some things done to it for a daily rider. Thanks as always
i had the pegasus model when new. cost me about $10k aud. well its only done 150 miles so must be a reason and it could be vibes alone. now if that side doesnt worry you then go ahead and buy. drop the oil and add new filter too and do this 3 times in first 1000 miles to clean all the rubbish from the motor if you look back in my history you'll see what i got out of the oil in new 500's. not nice. if you buy chances are you'll need a new battery too nothing special about the pegasus apart from its paint job and panniers so same running gear as stock bike with extra blackouts. they do look good and most likely the pick of the enfield. mine was the tan version pegasus but i had the green version in the despatch. not all enfields in the 500 range vibe. ive had 3 very good ones which were pretty smooth to ride. so if you can handle the thought if it has some vibration its no big issue -then buy it. if you think thats an issue the only way to know is get it out on the highway and sit it on 60 mph and you'll know immediately i dont think the seller will let you do that so its a bit of a roll with the dice. if you do buy make sure you run it in easy for that first 1000 miles. pull the plug immediately. check to see if it has the one i mentioned in clip. if not fit it immediately
yeah and totally agree the 500 has far more power but say i came up behind a 500 on my 2024 xmax 300 scooter. not only would i run rings around the 500 from 0 to 100 kph i'd also flog the crap out of one in top speed too...lol and do it very easy!
I loved the trails 500 in green, the vibration never reduced to an acceptable level regardless of anti vibration gizmos I fitted. So I went the whole hog and Hitchcocked it! Balanced British crank, new piston 615cc Dynojet 250i resulting in a cracking bike with acceptable vibration. Don’t believe that a standard 500 has 27bhp, a good one will see 18-19bhp at the back wheel, the 615cc gives 30bhp at the wheel. Torque at the back wheel 500 = 23ft/lbs @4000rpm. 615= 30ft/lbs @3650rpm. Worth the money spent? If you’re as mad as a box of frogs and it’s a keeper…..of course it bloody is!😂
great to hear. years back i know a guy who went the whole hog on his 500 and i think it made similar power too. vibration wise if in footpegs try my double head steady idea -one each side and toss the stock it does wonders for footpeg vibes but you must use 2 of them
i pity the bloke who bought my trials. it was assembled that bad i couldn't bare selling it privately so sold it back to dealer for $3000 under what i actually paid with just a few hundred klm on clock. i think i got $6500 for it but like i said it was virtually brand new or so the factory said...lol
I think the 500 is much better, 19 tooth sprocket and carberry reduction plate, strait through exhaust, it has much more charactor plus extra power. I found the 350 to be bland.
Nice review….I love my 350 classic. What about the values…..how often do you adjust them? Is it possible to have aftermarket self adjusting values installed…..if there even made for that bike? I own the green model….I removed the pillion seat and the handles. I replaced the stock seat with a tan low rider seat.
in this clip you'll see a dam wall. if id been on a 500 i'd sat a cup on the seat. start the bike up and given it a good rev. my bet is and i could be wrong - the vibrations alone would have shaken the water surface and splashed H20 over the wall of the dam and possible filled the cup...lol couldn't do that trick with the classic 350 or the gb350 - that's what some call character on the 500. i'd call it more a badly put together motor
@@deltabluesdavidraye my first enfield was actually a right side gear change iron barrel in a 500. it never vibrated badly either. your right on the crank side too. ive done clips on that in past years. also how worn the tooling was in the making of that crank too.
in actual fact the 500 is not that fast either. my 2024 xmax 300 scooter would easily bowl over a 500 enfield in not only pickup and in top speed so 300cc twist and go with dual abs/traction control.sat/nav 40 litres storage love it...lol
I must say even with the speedo issues on the the 350, it does look better than the 500 cluster
great to hear but i am actually talking faults on these from brand new and right out of the dealers showroom. bikes showing 23k click are really well used and unless you purchased them new may have been sorted out many years back.
that would be easy to tell too
pull the spark plugs on both. if they are the factory bosche put in the ngk bpr6es or 6 and get back to me and then tell me how much better the bike runs and idles
if they have the ngk plug in you can bet these bikes have had the odd fix done on them as previous owners would have no idea on the plug swap.
the dealers didn't know. in the early days it was just trial and error. one guy in the usa hit the jackpot on the plug and we all followed
since then ive been telling the guys on youtube on the ngk plug for 8 or so years and they ALWAYS got back and said thanks for the plug info -bike runs great!
there has been a bit of interest in this clip so i might just buy another 500 as they are pretty cheap for around the $6000 mark and revisit the past. then do quite a few clips on the bike and it could be quite a benefit to some
I have the 500 with the carberry plate and bigger sprocket and still the vibrations are a huge issue. Which is sad because I do love the bike for its character but its unridable for me. But: since early december I also have an 350! It is in storage waiting for the winter to end so I can start riding again! I did some testride before and I liked it a lot!
the 500 vibes actually caused me nerve damage from the vibes. permanent too. if you have the footpeg vibes add that double head steady i mentioned in clip. it will near wipe it out in the pegs.
i tried 3 vibe plates on 500's when they first came out. lots of talk then that the suppied bearing was not of good quality. think it was needle and should have been roller
2 did nothing and one helped slightly so in the end i think it depends up how much wobble is in that crank
I agree the paint job looks better
I don't like classic 650. Classic 350 is visually better looking.
hard to beat that single that's for sure.
Even my Himalayan feels more nippy, and it's the original and best 411cc.
i must admit my 2024 xmax300 scooter would easily beat both the 350's and even the 500 on pickup and top speed. just not a motorcycle...lol
Great to hear from someone who knows bikes and has owned plenty of both.
I think it's a question a lot of us have asked ourselves, because of course if we have or want a 350 Reborn, we are 'into' the classic look and feel, so we wonder "wouldn't a 500 be _more_ 'classic' and give a little more power?"
I think you've answered the question well.
I think I'll stick with my Bullet 350 Reborn.
i still think the 350 reborn looks pretty close to the 500. who knows i have little to do i might even buy a 500 just to put it against the 350
i have 5 new bikes sitting here or near new so i suppose i could add a used for a different look
something i might really consider and rather than talk the past i actually bring the past back.
all the best!
Love my 350 mate
over the past 12 years ive bought 74 brand new motorcycles. this classic 350 reborn i think is one of the best!
@ that’s incredible mate . Your videos helped me make the decision to buy it back in July 24 .
@@5150show well they are good bikes and after buying my first i never went back to a 500. not hard to do as they are pretty cheap to buy but in all reality they were badly put together with no quality control period.
back in 2020 my last new 500 arrived here in oz with its front suspension fork springs fitted the wrong way up.
i actually had to remove the forks and pull the springs and add new oil and put it back together before i could get a good ride in.
plus i can back up what i say with clips too...lol
the 350 is a good bike. not a powerful bike but very reliable. reliability beats power as you can trust it!
Nice video Warro, a mass of important information, thank's pal 👌
great to hear and i'd say not many will agree. well i never mentioned frame cracks/steering death wobbles/wiring harness/side stand switch/fuel gauge faulty/ neutral issues/ popping out of gears/swingarm issues/warped rotors/broken or off centre engine bolts/decompressor issues plus other stuff BECAUSE i get quite a few comments from guys saying i know nothing ...lol
my thoughts they have been watching a guy who bought one and he's happy and wants to keep his subs...lol and said its great....lol
over the years ive heard many a time selling the bike with great character. in other words owner couldn't handle the jack hammer vibes...including me...lol
i still say the 350 reborn is easily the better bike and if only they'd made it in a "J" series 500
i dont class the new 650 classic a classic. its just and interceptor in a different frame.
i actually owned 2 interceptors - great bike and one of the best but not a classic. unfortunately it has too many cylinders...lol but is indeed the smoothest riding bike ive been on apart from a scooter
You do tell a good story.
well strange as it sounds the bikes i have now i think are the best ive had for a while and a classic 500 is not one of them.
now you might say why are you against the classic 500. easy answer due to the terrible vibrators i bought and rode ive suffered from permanent hand and feet nerve damage from those bustardos of bikes.
the honda gb350 is a really good bike and nice to ride but not in stock form.
the xmax 300 scooter would easily outperform a classic 350 and knock over the 500 pretty easy too
the suzuki vstrom 250 sx is best value bike you can buy in oz. if you said that or a himalan . easy pick ive owned both so vstrom 250 sx
the grom in yellow is more just a fool around clown bike
i only drifted back into motorcycles from cars as i found motorcycles to be pretty easy to buy.
The classic 350 looks so much better with the red painted side panels , I never understood why my chrome bronze 350 has body colour side panels and the red chrome didn’t 🤷♂️
Great review of both bikes Warro; I love my Reborn 350 Halycon Grey and I'll stick with it.
I also love the Reborn. I think it is a better buy overall.
Agree on painting the covers - nice job mate!
thanks. i think it balances the bike out.
Any stickers going on, or leaving it as is? @ridewithwarro
@@mattcc6603 yeah still have the stickers and hope to put them on shortly
@@ridewithwarro Can take em or leave em, no stickers is really old school, BTW the red panels does the trick.
@@funkygrib1 yeah ive been thinking about that for a while. ive just painted the honda gb350 red and took the panel over to the classic 350.
pretty close to a match and had a bit of paint left so decided to give it a go
so it virtually cost me nothing in $$$ to do and i think turned out like it should have been from start.
back in 2012 the chrome c5 had chrome tank/guards/battery and tool boxes in chrome. plus in those days enfield gave every buyer 2 new tubes/clutch/speedo and brake cables/tin touch up paint/couple of reflectors and 2 large spanners.
today all you get is a better bike...lol
Wish the J series engine was 500cc with around 40hp the 350 although wonderful on back roads, it is not a motorway machine which I use from time to time.
yeah even if it was just 27hp i'd buy one for sure. enfield did good with this new j motor compared to their very poor attempt on the uce 500's
saying that you'd have to ride the gb350 i have and you'd say immediately -warro that is indeed the better bike which it is but again just doesn't look as good....lol
well mine is red now so it's improved there.
either way i dont care much as i like and ride both bikes. not at the same time either...lol
back to the 500. i mean over a 10 year span the same bike and the best they could do was dual abs and a rear disc and toss in a different colour plus jack the price up $500...lol
Great bike the 500 Trials. Had one for 5yrs. 1st Trials registered in the UK 🔥
great to hear. i always thought the green was the pick of the colours. didn't go that much on the red version.
thats hard to believe considering im on a red/chrome and just re-paint my new blue honda gb350 red...lol
Hi Warro, good to hear from you again, right at the moment the Guerilla 450 is here and it's the same price as a classic 350, in fact you can find them under $8000.
Cheers .
thanks for the info
Great video, Warro. Thanks for sharing. Great advice for those interested in either model. And yeah, for us living down under, we gotta watch out for those roos. Mostly dawn and dusk, but always keep an eye out. Did you ever see a video posted on YT over in Canada or the US of a rider that hit a deer? They were doing over the ton, tho. Made a mess of bike, rider and deer. Cheers, mate.
i recall seeing one where a guy hit a deer and had on his airbag jacket. not sure if that was it or not.
on the day he was extremely lucky that's for sure
@@ridewithwarro Yeah, it could have been that one. I remember that there wasn't much left of the deer, or the bike. The rider was lucky that day.
@@dashamac it would be no picnic that's for sure. they come out so fast and in most cases more than one too.
You're a very wise man Warro, that was very helpful, the red covers look great. 👍 🇦🇺
well i only went halfway in the faults but all can be rectified if one knows anything about them. the big issue being others come in on just one bike and spread crap where i came in right in the very beginning or close..2012
believe me they were very badly put together and unreliable bikes. problems all the time
the may have been sorted out by now but back them they were very disappointing..lol
i once told an enfield dealer. the best thing i like when buying a new 500 is i can take it home and start fixing it...lol
plus i recall telling the dealers how to fix certain issues before they even knew about it themselves.
one being the faulty sprag clutches in 2014 and the other being the ngk spark plug. plus the rear wheel lockups
hopefull the older bikes now have been sorted out but i never bought used so can only talk new bike experience.
Fantastic paint job mate....it really accentuates the overall classic design. Well done 👏
yeah i think it balanced the bike a bit for the better. all the best!
This information should help anyone trying to make the right choice between the two.
well it may help some but not so others. if your mind is set on 500 i dont think what i say will make any difference.
this is just a clip to help out if one is thinking of buying and what others may not tell you.
in a way its like watches. you might say your omega is the best but i think a rolex is a far better choice..lol
same goes with bikes but at the end of the day a 500 will be worth not much money but the rolex will double its value
@ridewithwarro Very true. And it's all about what works best for you 🙂. Great thing about this clip also is it gives folks options... to ride a vibrator or not.
@@findingneutral well im only giving an opinion on what to look out for. after-all ive owned 15 of the 500's - plus 3 350 reborn -2 uce 350-2 interceptors-1 535gt -1 himalayan so ive had a few.
all im saying is if vibes are no issue buy the 500. if you want it easy go the 350 reborn
the 350 is virtually trouble free and the 500 will require a bit of hands on work
but in all honesty i dont care what they buy as i really like the new honda gb350 and the xmax 300. so i have choices...lol
Looks MUCH BETTER with the paint job, imo. !
I agree. I have the 350 Classic Chrome as well, but the Bronze colour. The side covers are painted bronze as well, which looks neat.
i was really after the Bronze but on the day, they had none in stock. on the red/chrome the paint coverage didn't look complete. i think it's now looks a far more balanced bike and the paint side was pretty easy to do
thanks for that Warro, well i have a 350 bullet 2007, as you say always needs a bit of tinkering, also got a 2023 hunter 350 J series, cannot help but keep spending money with Mr hitchcocks and Raj in India, love the hunter done almost all mods, its still my go to bike although my bullet is good fun to play with but stick local, my hunter do 150ml trips regularly, dont change my bikes like you, I live NW uk, lake district area, so great roads for the little hunter and no issues, I have toyed with the idea of getting a guerrilla thats 450 but would have to squeeze up in the Shed coz nothing is being sold off, just toys for a 70 yr old boy😉
in a way i sort of get sick of buying motorcycles. not sure how it goes your way but in my case here in oz with 5 bikes and 3 cars im paying $7000 a year to register and insure them for 12 months before i actually get in or on to ride either.
lucky too that they are new so im not hooked up with bike repairs as the dealers sure know how to charge.
not long back i was quote $350 for an oil and filter change on a scooter. i think i actually did it for $45...lol
so there always some-one out there to rip ya.
daughter put her mazda in for a service. price quoted was $700 all the did was change the oil and filter and the other involved looking over and checking a 2 year old car.
every=-one is out for a slice of the pie and unfortunately some take a much bigger slice...lol
In between the 500 and the 350 I had an Interceptor and a Himalayan 450.
i had two of those 110 address scooters and found them pretty responsive and good value. i think i paid $3000 ea when i had mine as suzuki was doing a special. i bought one blue and one white...lol
either way a good around town runner and i also did a few runs out on the road.
now have the xmax 300 which some might not like to hear but it would easily bowl over the classic 350 and knock off the 500 too.
in pickup and top speed....lol
very good twist and go ride.
interceptor is a great ride and i had 2 of those and the only himalayan i owned was the first carby version and it was a pretty good rider but very agi in the looks dept...lol
all the best!
Thanks. Great info
great to hear it was helpful. if one knows the issues pretty easy to fix. if you know zero its a long walk home.
well in my case it was a phone home and bring the van...lol
Love the Interceptor 650 twin and it’s not a problem to run at 110-120 km on the highway.
interceptor is a very good bike. enjoyed my mileage on one of those unit. your right too. easy 110/120 kph cruise
George
yeah its not the actual rear drum adjustment shaft its in the area in which centres the brake drum shoes near the shaft.
i asked a dealer once -have you ever experience rear wheel lockup on a 500. he said strange you asked that. the other day i was doing a customers bike test ride applied the rear drum and it locked up and it almost got tossed over the bars.
not many know or will admit issues with the 500. like the frame cracks or the death wobble steering swing arm issues on some plus other stuff.
but i was there in the near beginning and the others really know very little on that side....lol
some think they do but i was there in the beginning and not one who came in just 2 years back. totally different ball game.
What do you think of the Classic 650 are you gonna test ride one when they arrive in Australia,
unfortunately, no dealers close to where i live. so i'd have to do a 500 klm round trip.
Great info Warro 350 would be the one 500 seems a nightmare ...how wonderful were carbs simple and avoided complexity and extra components needed for injection.
yeah both are fine especially if you have prior knowledge on the 500 - all issues can be sorted out and if a vibrator they can also be tamed a bit....lol
when i first bought mine no-one really knew what to do and it was more trial and error
even enfield couldn't get the plug right to start with and it was worked out and worked out very successful by actual owners
This makes them far easier to tune than the Euro 5 350's, which contain a much more 'anti tamper' ECU.
good to hear you enjoyed the colour change on the tool boxes. yeah i see your point on the plastics.
i recall buying a new 500 in the 016 plus period. one had a plastic chain guard and the other had the right metal oval tool box cover metal on a press in plastic housing.
all 350s are virtually created equal and more like honda
in my case i had 2 or 3 very low bikes in the 500 range and then some outright shakers.
10 years back i feel and others did too. it all depended on the tooling of the crank and how it was put together or outright just slapped together
overall i have no real issues with both bikes. in fact i almost bought back one of my old bikes say 6 weeks ago but i never...lol
all the best!
Great video Warro, I'll stick with my 350 I can't wait for good weather. 🏍
no shortage of good weather here. i took the 350 for a run at 9am. i think it was 24c and heading towards 34c so got in early.
all the best!
Very nice looking little bike
It’s a great classic styled bike, they are quite easy to work on too.
I have a red chrome 350 like yours and a late green 500 trials The 500 is luckily a smooth one I know the the 350 is a better bike but I can't help preferring the 500 Regards Edward
yeah these 500's vary from bike to bike and one bike could have been made a few thousand bikes from the other. even though they look identical not all are the same.
totally different with the 350's. all mine rode and feel the same.
when you have a choice of both its a bit easier to swing with the power.
a few years back i had a 360rwhp mazda miata. capable of 275 kph
i also had that yellow mgf and wouldnt drive it because it was gutless...lol
now the mx5 is gone-too much power and no-where to use so i now settle for the mgf...lol
I might look into that new 650 coming out.
The 350 makes me nervous around stupid drivers in town.
yeah on the ride side i think ive got enough to keep me occupied now for a while. if i ride every bike i'd get only 6 rides per bike per month.
Great video. I have a 350 as well. I remove the pillion seat and the handles. I added a tan Lowrider seat. I love the way they look. Do you know if self adjusting hydraulic valves are available to replace the existing valves in the 350 classic that would be great?
yeah i just put the handles back so easier for me at 72...lol to place on centre stand. you know an age thing...lol
bike looks far better with pillion seat off. plus i just attached the spring kit. doesnt serve any purpose but looks ok
no ideas on the valve side
all the best!
Stay safe!
yeah a few years back or roughly 2019 my first day out on the interceptor same area 400 metres up a large grey jumped in front of me.
almost touched the front wheels...geez that was a close call....lol
bike was shaking or it could have been me...not sure...lol
either way a close one.
plenty of roos about here. the other day i was out riding the gb350 in a local forest and rounded a bend and saw a good 50 grey jumpers munching away
a year back on a trip i did to the bridle track i actually walked into a lone buck roo and he stook upright to well over 6ft tall.
i must admit i was packing it a bit....lol these guys are impressively strong and surprisingly know to attack.
in my case i just looked the other way and kept walking but no doubt they would or could kick the crap out of you and using their hind leg and main toenail -easily gut you on the spot.
pretty smart too. if chased by dogs they head for water -dog goes in and they actually drown them.
female roo's are usually pretty quite or docile. but in all species its mainly the males who need sorting out...lol
yeah those roos blend in well in the bush and come out pretty fast. they can do heaps of damage to riders and cars.
same too with emus.
a few years back i bought a fully restored triumph daytona for a guy in another state. i said will you deliver for $1000 extra. he said yes.
on his way to deliver he actually hit an emu and totally wrote his car off.
i thought he'd be pissed but not the case. told me he got all his insurance money on the car and bought a newer model.
he also said no more delivery side so i had to have it freighted...lol
@@ridewithwarro Wow, I had no idea they could be so mean. Deer usually run from us, I have hit one with a car, as they seem to jump out from nowhere along the wooded ares and corn fields. I sure don't want to encounter one on a bike. A buck during rut season can get aggressive, but the biggest risk is a 200lb impact at speed. Thanks you for all of your videos! I enjoy them, especially when it is too cold and snowy here to ride.
@@wallybuettner if an issue always with the males. id say over past few years ive read 2 or 3 people have been attacked by male roos,
you have no idea how bulked up they are till you see one stand up straight and balance of its tail and stay clear...lol
best idea if alone and bump into them male guarding females. best idea is just stay clear and turn direction.
Thanks warro good video a.have a green 500 clasic 80.000 km op de teller ❤groetjes uit Nederland
congrats on the 80k and great run on the classic 500. i knew a guy who did 50k but that bike was badly treated.
i think with all bikes regular oil and filter changes make a huge difference to how long it eventually lasts.
all the best!
Thanks as always
i had the pegasus model when new. cost me about $10k aud. well its only done 150 miles so must be a reason and it could be vibes alone.
now if that side doesnt worry you then go ahead and buy. drop the oil and add new filter too and do this 3 times in first 1000 miles to clean all the rubbish from the motor
if you look back in my history you'll see what i got out of the oil in new 500's. not nice.
if you buy chances are you'll need a new battery too
nothing special about the pegasus apart from its paint job and panniers so same running gear as stock bike with extra blackouts.
they do look good and most likely the pick of the enfield. mine was the tan version pegasus but i had the green version in the despatch.
not all enfields in the 500 range vibe. ive had 3 very good ones which were pretty smooth to ride.
so if you can handle the thought if it has some vibration its no big issue -then buy it.
if you think thats an issue the only way to know is get it out on the highway and sit it on 60 mph and you'll know immediately
i dont think the seller will let you do that so its a bit of a roll with the dice.
if you do buy make sure you run it in easy for that first 1000 miles. pull the plug immediately. check to see if it has the one i mentioned in clip. if not fit it immediately
@ridewithwarro thank you very much.
I'll review all the past videos on the subject.
@@joetocchio9666you'll see my pegasus there. i actually took that bike out on a hunting trip too. ran great in the local paddocks
I have had three J series 350's and four 500's and hands down the 500 is the better Engine by far. 30% more power makes a huge difference 💪🏻
yeah and totally agree the 500 has far more power but say i came up behind a 500 on my 2024 xmax 300 scooter. not only would i run rings around the 500 from 0 to 100 kph i'd also flog the crap out of one in top speed too...lol and do it very easy!
If you’re as mad as a box of frogs and it’s a keeper…..of course it bloody is!😂
great to hear. years back i know a guy who went the whole hog on his 500 and i think it made similar power too.
vibration wise if in footpegs try my double head steady idea -one each side and toss the stock
it does wonders for footpeg vibes but you must use 2 of them
Almost bought the 2020 trials model but seen the 350 signals
i pity the bloke who bought my trials. it was assembled that bad i couldn't bare selling it privately so sold it back to dealer for $3000 under what i actually paid with just a few hundred klm on clock.
i think i got $6500 for it but like i said it was virtually brand new or so the factory said...lol
I think the 500 is much better, 19 tooth sprocket and carberry reduction plate, strait through exhaust, it has much more charactor plus extra power. I found the 350 to be bland.
yeah i thought something similar when i went from the classic 500 to a new triumph scrambler 900. almost double the hp but not double the fun...lol
Why did you have such a large number of the same bike !?
well i guess back then i was earning some very easy money. so i bought cars/bikes/watches cameras holidays etc so i had a fair picnic
@ridewithwarro Nice !😄
Nice review….I love my 350 classic. What about the values…..how often do you adjust them? Is it possible to have aftermarket self adjusting values installed…..if there even made for that bike? I own the green model….I removed the pillion seat and the handles. I replaced the stock seat with a tan low rider seat.
where is 500
HE'S owned about 12 500's & he is showing comparison & giving tips.
in my history there everwhere....lol but im saving you heartbreak so just go 350
We only wish a 500 was even available. It isn't. Barely get a RE in the U.S.
used is the only way now. i suppose if required better than a zero. who knows i might buy a used 500 myself and run it with the 350
Wow! 15 classic 500's! Why so many? Also, you have more money for bikes than me! Lol
well my new bike purchased over past 12 years is actually 74. which looking back was a total waste of money...lol
30 lbs of torque vs 20
in this clip you'll see a dam wall. if id been on a 500 i'd sat a cup on the seat. start the bike up and given it a good rev.
my bet is and i could be wrong - the vibrations alone would have shaken the water surface and splashed H20 over the wall of the dam and possible filled the cup...lol
couldn't do that trick with the classic 350 or the gb350 -
that's what some call character on the 500. i'd call it more a badly put together motor
@ridewithwarro My 500 iron barrel doesn't vibrate that much. Its about how straight and true the crankshaft is assembled.
@@deltabluesdavidraye my first enfield was actually a right side gear change iron barrel in a 500. it never vibrated badly either.
your right on the crank side too. ive done clips on that in past years. also how worn the tooling was in the making of that crank too.
They are just to slow
in actual fact the 500 is not that fast either.
my 2024 xmax 300 scooter would easily bowl over a 500 enfield in not only pickup and in top speed
so 300cc twist and go with dual abs/traction control.sat/nav 40 litres storage
love it...lol
