Both of my Grandfathers wore Hamilton watches. My dad wears a know vintage Hamilton Supercompressor that he bought new. I have the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical. My family has been wearing Hamilton watches for 3 generations.
Hamilton: add AR to the sapphire, delete the titanium (or be harder to see), bring back the red seconds pointer, delete the 15, and use a 4Hz movement and you have perfection.
It wears extremely well with a nylon strap. you get a real roguish, stealthy feel. 42 seems big for some.. i'm not a large person by any means but i wear this wear very comfortably. highly recommend! great review!
Update: (September 2024): still own this watch after many happy years with it. It is still as accurate as day 1. The original strap looks bad now but I'm rocking it with a black/Gray Velcro strap. Will never sell it. Original post: I finally bought this piece after a long period of deliberation. I watched many a review and comment on this watch and have spent some time considering the pitfalls of it. I have also looked for many alternatives to this piece. Yes, the date botches the "3" marking and that side stepped "15" make my eyes feel wonky. But I think it just all falls into place in a weird way for me. The person who designed this face must have been off his tits on weed or something, but it makes sense to me now lol. The sound it makes is amazing. IT keeps fantastic time and it looks elegant in a non flashy way. Something about this piece sits so well with me. I have had the flashy pieces, Omega, TAG and Breitling (bar the avenger blackbird, which is amazing). And this piece still sits up there as a unique classy wear all day banger. Good job Hamilton
I was searching for a watch of this style but could not get past the date smashing the numeral and the titanium wording. Ended up buying a Seiko Nano SCVE039 to fill the need.
I feel as though the green tint to the numbers cheapens the look. It may improve the lume, but others manage to get decent lume with a cleaner white look.
The thing that made me flip a stainless steel 42 mm Khaki Field Automatic was the lack of AR coating on the crystal. I found the reflections made it more difficult than necessary to tell the time at a glance and after a while that bugged me. This titanium model shows the same amount of reflections so I guess there's still no AR coating. But the upgrade to C3 lume is nice. I actually kind of like this watch but don't know if I could dare take the plunge and be disappointed again with the crystal as is.
Thanks for review! Instantly when I first saw this watch I thought: I WANT IT. Yes, I NEED it! But the lug to lug size is a whopping almost 52mm! Why, Hamilton??? That's just unnecessary large and too much for me. It could have been 48-49mm.
I hate being on multiple social media. I spent an hour on Facebook looking for this story. After further research I have determined that they have taken everything I hate about the steel version and made it worse. On the steel there is no three but I still find the dial unbalanced. On the titanium the have given me part of a three (I hate when they do that) and made the dial even more unbalanced. Ideally they should get rid of the date or only have the date at the three o'clock position.
I wish hamilton make a matte stainless steel version with that applied lume on its markings and having the 4hertz..thats perfect for me.. Ps:i wish its a hand-winding hamilton field watch.😁😁
"In my opinion the smart phone has relegated the wristwatch back to jewelry and accessory" -- I am glad you added 'In my opinion', because I and lots of my colleagues and friends wear wristwatches as they were designed -- not an affectation but a tool to tell time, and smart phone is a very poor substitute for that. I have no idea where you work, but a lot of adults have duties that have to be done on time, and pulling out a wrist watch to check the time is simply not practicable. Then of course we have recreation, where stopping to pull out a wrist watch is neither feasible nor practical. In short, watch is still very much a practical tool. You may yet discover it one day.
Lawrence Rogers they should have taken the 3 away moved the date over to normal position and i might even have bought it but nope lets take a shit on the 15 minute marker.
I so wanted to like this watch but being titanium ruined it for me. I just like a bit of weight to my watches so I ended up returning it to Amazon. It is a beautiful piece though !!
A great review as always, Bruce, awesome macro shots! I love the H in the clasp, but is that clasp not too edgy/square? It looks like it could scratch anything it touches, including your own skin. I also wish they used white numbers on a black background on the date wheel to max out the stealth look... and well, that truncated 3 looks kinda lame. Other than that, a lovely Hammy, and you know what? I even like that jerky second hand, it gives the watch a tooly feel. Thanks again! Zs
I agree with the words "TITANIUM" on the side of the case. It looks cheap. If you need to identify that it's titanium, add it to the back of the case. When I saw this it honestly turned me off of the watch completely. Otherwise it's a beautiful watch.
good review. i really like Hamilton, but this is a big swing and miss for me. 1) it’s too big for a “field watch” it should be 38.5 or 39. 2) I hate hate hate when numbers get cut off. the 3 looks terrible. 3) and the date window knocks the 15 out of place and looks awful. they should have either ditched the date (my preference) or the 3 and 15. 4) the “titanium” on the case side is ghastly. why why why?. 5) 3hz movement!?!?!?! not at this price, thank you! not worth the extra power reserve. this could have been so incredibly awesome, but it is surpassed by Fortis and at a higher price point, Damasko and Sinn. i have field watches and theyre all stainless on olive drab straps. the blacked out look is very cool. this one’s not for me. btw, though, that second hand is brilliant. the white tip looks like it’s floating.
you destroyed this watch for me by mentioning the of "center" 15 which pokes into the center of the dial. i never noticed it before, but now everytime i see it, i just see the 15 closer to the middle and it bothers me. but nice review.
Funny, I paid 629.00 for my 4hz SARW019 & 750.00.usd for this exact Hamilton, both brand new in 2017.. I won't pay retail for any watch regardless of movement "hz".. 😉
Captain there are better choises for less money. Seiko of coure, Steinhart (not submariner hommage), Stowa, Davosa, Magrette and others... and i dont like titanium. And for 1 200 bucks you get the new Ball Engineer lll CarboLight a COSC certified beauty. Awesome watch from a brand with history.
The overly long seconds hand emphasises the bph downgrade so much, it looks like a vintage 18600bph movement. Plus the messy date window. I like Hamiltons, but not this one.
you're one of the only youtubers I know who specify the prices of watches, which is very important. thank you
I love this watch, hard to explain the appeal of it until it's on your wrist. I highly recommend it, it is uniquely special.
Both of my Grandfathers wore Hamilton watches. My dad wears a know vintage Hamilton Supercompressor that he bought new. I have the Hamilton Khaki Mechanical. My family has been wearing Hamilton watches for 3 generations.
that is awesome, thanks for sharing
Hamilton: add AR to the sapphire, delete the titanium (or be harder to see), bring back the red seconds pointer, delete the 15, and use a 4Hz movement and you have perfection.
you are on point man. 100% agree.
That's funny, the one I have IS perfect.
And: why a whopping 52mm lug to lug? So unnecessary large.
Hi Bruce, I got mine back in May, loving it! It's a strap monster!
It wears extremely well with a nylon strap. you get a real roguish, stealthy feel. 42 seems big for some.. i'm not a large person by any means but i wear this wear very comfortably. highly recommend! great review!

Chicken Lips what’s the average accuracy?
What size wrist?
Still happy with it? Any critical points?
@@LarrypintI'm wearing it as I type this. The watch has been flawless and still looks as new as the day I bought it. I'll pass it onto my son one day
@@somethingnotmaterialI have quite small wrists. Not sure on size exactly
I was searching for a watch of this style but could not get past the date smashing the numeral and the titanium wording. Ended up buying a Seiko Nano SCVE039 to fill the need.
Your reviews bring out the best in every watch man. Makes me wanna buy everything you review!
Always loved this titanium Khaki, I might have to get one to see what they’re all about.
Thanks for a great review Bruce!
Hi Bruce,I'm a recent subscriber and I like your content, so I'm slowly going to work my way through the back catalogue.......here goes!
If not for the font treatment at the date wheel, and the "titanium" script on the side of the case, this would be a solid buy for me.
Wow . I love this watch . I have the Hamilton khaki field automatic 38mm . It's a good watch.
I feel as though the green tint to the numbers cheapens the look. It may improve the lume, but others manage to get decent lume with a cleaner white look.
Love this watch, but personally I think it is just too big (42x51), a little smaller (40x49) would have been perfect!
The lack of AR coating is a deal breaker for me. I've seen this watch at Tourneau and the glare is unacceptable.
Can you tell me about scratches; if you scratch the watch what about the color 🤔
I’m with you on the “Titanium” on the side. If you were keep it there than black it out so you only see it in certain light.

want to buy this but some do suggest pvd wont last steal can get polish any advise
How about the hand winding option? do you think it is worth it?
Hey Bruce , what diver would you recommend for around 500-1000€?
I do have smaller wrists
Cheers and thanks ,
Alessio
Great review!👍 I saw the movement n realized that there aren’t any +/- markings . So can this movement be regulated? Thanks
So this specific model on the Hamilton websites states that the Caliber is an (ETA 2824-2), could someone explain how this is (H-10).
Nice vid. I agree though - that date window area doesn't work at all. It's a bit expensive too?
I'll stick to my Khaki King 😊
good review.. I purchased instead the H70695735 k field day date auto ..love to see a review!

Why don't Hamilton use AR coating?
i wish they didn't include the date at all, it'll look more pleasing imo
Omar Alabbadi good point
Or at least left off the three. Crowding 3 o'clock with 3, 15 and date is awful.
I wish they had included day and date. It's a tool, not jewelry to match somebody's man purse.
mountainhobo,
I need something that goes with my European carryall !

Great looking watch but that date completely spoils the visual balance of the watch. The three is obscured and the 15 is in no mans land.
Lawrence Rogers they should have taken the 3 away moved the date over to normal position and i might even have bought it but nope lets take a shit on the 15 minute marker.
Gotta love titanium watches, I feel tho like the watch lacks a sort of character. Great review, keep it up

Ah that is a great idea man, a blackout display would be great!
What kind of accuracy?
Nice watch.
You didn't mention the water resistant?
Don't remember its probably 50 or 100 meters
Good watch. Great review
The white date on the black dial keeps me from liking these fieldwatches. I just wish Hamilton would make some dateless versions.
I agree that would be a great option
Remove date & “titanium”, 4Hz, 40mm please
I would’ve bought this watch about 5 times now, but I think the watch would be KILLER without the date
Top watch !!!

No issues w new movement mine runs 2 seconds slow every 2 WEEKS !!!!!

Agree x5
Sorry but it’s to big and what’s the go with that cut off #3
Hey Bruce, you forgot this is a MOVIE watch.
what movie??
Jack Ryan movie
Shadow recruit
На каждый день хорошо , легко и не заметно.
Beautiful watch but the date window totally ruins the look.
you destroyed this watch for me by mentioning the of "center" 15 which pokes into the center of the dial. i never noticed it before, but now everytime i see it, i just see the 15 closer to the middle and it bothers me.
but nice review.
quality review/video
That fifteen next to the date window bugs me so much
38mm and sold!
Without the PVD it's awesome
Nice 👍
I still hate the cutoff 3 and printed 'titanium' on the side. Or i would have bought it
This watch will be detected by russian S-400s because of that date window
3Hz ? - not for this price point.

@@steven3379 I bought it for 650. Seems worthy at this price ....
Date dial it's ridiculous. I will never give the money on a watch with such a defect.
Laser calibered , so think twice
The date window is fugly. The Khaki version without date is well designed. But the writing "titanium" on the side should be taken off.
Lumayan mewah
Not bad but way to expensive. Half price would be ok.
Captain Z I am Swiss ond know how that works...
they look cool but they are very cheaply made and feel very low end imho
lol couldn't disagree more
Agree!
The overly long seconds hand emphasises the bph downgrade so much, it looks like a vintage 18600bph movement.
Plus the messy date window.
I like Hamiltons, but not this one.
